The latest
revision to the forecast does not show
anything better than the gloom shown in
the screenshot above. If anything it
paints an even worse picture. From 4pm
until 7pm or later, mist is forecast. It
will be after sunset and so may not be
relevant to my day, although if I dared
to go out it could provide some good
photo opportunities. It is possible the
mist could be thick enough to be called
fog near the river. Today should see the
temperature briefly peak at 9° C.
Tomorrow it will be several degrees
cooler. The day will start wet, but the
afternoon could be sunny.
I had a lousy night's sleep the
night before, and yesterday I didn't
feel like rushing around, but I did feel
like laying on my bed reading and
snoozing. Oddly enough I never did seem
to get a snooze, and I didn't even get a
lie in because I had to take in two
boxes of 24 bottles/can each at 8am. I
think having to be so active at that
time woke me up far more than I wanted.
I find it odd that I never felt
particularly tired during the day, or
unfortunately when it came to bed time.
The highlight of the day was the
afternoon beer drinking session with
Michael and Jodie. With 5 beer advent
calendars, plus another arriving while
we were drinking, we had a huge
selection of beers to try, but we only
got through about 6 or 7 cans, and each
can was generally shared three ways
(although Michael only wanted a small
taster of some of 7% or more beers). I
think I have sufficient beer supplies to
keep us going through most of next
January.
Michael left us after a few
hours, but Jodie stayed until a little
after 6pm. She was planning to meet her
new friend, Alan, at Clockhouse Station
where they planned to continue drinking.
It was a cold night, and by tradition
(actually even in summer !) we finished
with a couple of shorts.
The first whisky I poured was not
one of the nicer ones, although it does
rather depend on your individual
palette. There are some world renowned
whiskies that I hate, and there are
cheap whiskies, such as Tesco Special
Reserve that I really like.
Inside the cupboard, which can't
be opened without moving a load of
bottles, I found a whisky that Jodie
liked, and I found a bottle of Fireball
(as pictured on the left). Without it
being outside, and easy to see, I had
partly forgotten it was there. It is too
hot for Jodie, but I love it. I poured
myself 2 shots, and that was enough to
send me over the edge. It didn't do a
lot for my sugar consumption either - it
is full of sugar.
Of course the trouble with
getting drunk is that it makes it far
too easy to feel too hungry, and to lose
control over what you (or I) eat. I had
a nice safe dinner planned. I had cooked
4 well seasoned skinless/boneless
chicken thighs, and the original idea
was to have them with some thinly sliced
red cabbage and red onion, kebab style.
I couldn't wait to prepare the cabbage
and onion, and so I heated up a small
can of baked beans and had those with
the chicken. Meanwhile, with a hot oven,
and a stupid curiosity about some
sausage and stuffing balls I had bought
in Tesco, I put those sausage and
stuffing balls in to cook while I ate
the chicken.
The worst was still not over. The
sausage meat, or maybe it was the
stuffing, was a bit onion-ey. That was
OK while I was eating them, but it left
that taste behind in my mouth. I may
have been OK if I had brushed my teeth
and tongue, but being drunk, I chose to
have some very light crackerbread type
things with cheese on them. I had at
least 3 slices of it, and maybe it was 6
slices. It was so light that it just
crumbled into dust and 99% of the
texture was the cheese. Maybe I should
have just eaten the cheese.
Like the night before, after a
poor sleep I should have been yawning to
get to sleep early last night, but
although I was yawning I just could not
get to sleep. I seemed to feel very
uncomfortable in bed. No matter which
way I turned something would feel
uncomfortable. For some strange reason
it was often one or other elbow feeling
very rheumatic or something. I did get
to sleep a bit before midnight, but only
slept for about an hour.
After that I just couldn't get
back to sleep. After thrashing around in
my bed, trying different positions, and
different amounts of being covered by
the duvet, I gave up, and read some
technical news on my PC. After an hour
of that it felt like I must be very
close to sleep, but it probably took
nearly half an hour before I fell
asleep. I didn't have any long periods
of insomnia after that, but I did wake
up maybe 3 times before I woke up at
around 6.30am.
Under other circumstances I would
have probably gone to the toilet, and
gone back to bed, but a nagging thought
made me check to see if the final beer
advent calendar was on it's way. It was,
and it was due to be delivered sometime
between 7.47 and 8.47 this
morning. There was nothing for it but to
get up enough to take in the delivery
when it happened. It was actually at
7.50am !
I had it in mind to go straight
back to bed once the delivery had taken
place, but I needed the toilet again.
Then I wanted to do my usual early
morning check on my blood glucose. This
morning I knew it would be high even if
it was just from the two shots of
Fireball, but my extended dinner did it
no good as well. This morning it was a
very high 9.9mmol/l. Oh well, at least
it was under the danger level of
10.0mmol/l.
Since than I have had some
breakfast (bacon with low sugar tomato
sauce), and read more IT news from
https://www.theregister.com/
- which I have quite a backlog of items
to catch up on before today brings even
more ! I don't know what I am going to
do next. It will probably be very
little. I think I'll turn the heating up
a bit, and lay on my bed reading, and
hopefully snoozing too. Later on I might
find something constructive to do, but I
can't think of anything offhand at this
time.
