Earlier
forecasts showed Xmas day, today, as
being a complete washout, but the latest
revision shows it to be completely dry
until 5pm when rain will start, and
continue beyond midnight. It may be dry,
but it is very dull, and the chances of
seeing a single sunbeam today seem
remote in the extreme. It was 8° C at
8am, but it is now cooling off, and the
afternoon may be no more than 6° C.
Tomorrow may see the temperature climb
back to 10° C, but at the moment it is
predicted to be a very wet day.
There is not a lot I can say
about yesterday. It was a long day for
me, but very little happened - except I
did drink a lot of beer, and eat mainly
sandwiches. Both probably had
consequences. My one bit of productivity
was to transfer/digitise a few more old
VHS tapes to digital mpg files. I had
intended to edit, as in "top and tail"
the crap off each end of stuff I had
recorded off TV broadcast if needed, but
mostly to convert the files to more
compact mp4 files. I never got around to
that.
Much of my afternoon was
concerned with guzzling the beers in the
photo above. They were beers that Jodie
gracefully allowed me to drink (from the
beer advent calendars I bought) because
she "
had had them before" ! Jodie
gets very offended if I get to drink a
beer she has never tried before. It is
because she is addicted to logging every
different beer she drinks on the website
called untappd (with no e in the name).
I did look in another beer advent
calendar or two, and I have pulled out a
few more that I am sure she will have no
further interest in. Out of those
8 cans in the picture, at least two were
unpleasant, or "minging" as Jodie likes
to say. They were very sour tasting, and
slightly hazy. In fact, when I think
about it, I don't think I could point to
even two of them that were particularly
nice. I guess I am just not really in to
modern
hipster beers.
The other interesting fact about
yesterday's beers was that 8 cans is
often more than we tend to get through
on a Thursday afternoon beer session,
and then each can might be split 3 ways
so we can all have a taste. Drinking all
8 myself should have left me feeling
very drunk, but somehow I never felt
more than very slightly drunk. The proof
of that is that I had my last can at
about 6pm, and by midnight, when I would
have expected it, I didn't have a
hangover.
I think the only thing I could
bare to watch in TV last night was a
single episode of Star Trek: Voyager.
After that I read for a bit, and
then I started to find alternative
entertainment on the internet. It was
one of those occasions when you look at
something, and there is a link to
something else that seems vaguely
interesting. You then keep following
links until you suddenly realise that it
is just about midnight.
I came away from my PC then. I
brushed my teeth, and then went to bed.
I think it was nearly 1am before I fell
asleep, but once asleep I seemed to
sleep quite well. I had a few dreams,
but the details seem too feint to try
and describe any of them now. At 7am I
woke up, and that seemed a silly time to
get up, but I needed to get up for a pee
anyway. I did my usual routine of
checking my blood glucose, and found it
to be very high, 10.7mmol/l. That
basically means I ought to fast for much
of today if I can.
I also took all my morning pills,
checked my email (nothing), and even
went as far as to pop out to the garden
to put more feed on the bird table. I
then went back to bed. I wanted to
sleep, but I didn't think it would
happen, and then suddenly it was 9.15am.
Maybe if I had turned over I could have
got even more sleep, but perhaps I'll
have a snooze or two later. Today will
probably be a very dull day.
I was thinking of going for a
walk today, and it is possible I may
still do that, but I find the dull grey
sky takes away any enthusiasm. I was
also thinking of not getting up today,
but there is a minute possibility of a
summons for a lunchtime pint. I supposed
I ought to be clean and dressed in case
that happens. Possibly my main activity
today will be to get a bit of laundry
done.
