The forecast
has been revised since taking the
screenshot above. It now admits that the
clouds are a dirty grey now, and have
been since sunrise. Those clouds should
be turning almost white soon, and stay
like through the day. However 2 and 3pm
are now shows as featuring sunny spells
(but none for midday and 1pm now). This
morning the temperature is an almost,
but not mild 6° C, but it could rise to
9° C for a few hours this afternoon. It
looks like it will be an almost mild
night, but the temperature may drop to
just 3° C by 9am tomorrow morning. From
9am the sun may come out, and stay out
all day. That will take the temperature
up to 6 or 7° C until it starts to
plunge down cold enough for frost, and a
freezing fog the morning after.
It feels like yesterday was
a successful day, and yet not a lot
happened. Two important things did
happen, and I'll describe those soon. I
was very lazy for a lot of the day. The
big problem was that I wasn't feeling
good, and I don't know if it was
physical or mental. In all likelihoods
it was a mix of both, with each aiding
the other in a negative direction. It
didn't feel like I had slept well the
night before, and yet in all the
opportunities I had to have a snooze, I
hardly snoozed at all.
As I said yesterday, I had some
aches and pains that could have been
result of a viral infection (or any
species), but none were anything new,
and have been constant friends for years
now - particularly ankles, knees and
hips, plus the regular aches and pains
from my scar tissue and stuff since my
quad heart bypass operation. The biggest
problem was that there was no good
distractions from any ache -
distractions like hot sunshine, and
pleasant breezes.
The very worst thing was a sort
of guilt about wasting a day and/or
being lazy. I should probably stand back
and think that my income has already
been earned, and should be stable until
the revolution comes. I no longer
contribute to mankind, and it doesn't
really matter if I do nothing. On the
other hand there is always that nagging
thing called pride, and a personal need
to accomplish something - anything.
I am happy to say I did
accomplish two things yesterday. The
first was that later in the afternoon I
sat down with the old(ish) PC that I
have been playing with - the one which
seemed to have a locked, or if not
locked, weird BIOS. I had tried
installing Devuan Linux on it many
times, and every time it was fully
installed except the BIOS didn't know
how to load the bootloader. I eventually
got it working thanks to a utility
called
Rescatux.
Rescatux is downloaded as an iso
file which is a disk image that needs to
be burnt to a CD - except the latest
version, Rescatux 0.74, is a tiny bit
too big to burn to most recordable CDs,
and I had to burn it to a DVD. It does
all sorts of things, and one useful
thing was to confirm that the BIOS on
that pc was
not a UEFI bios, and
it should have read a standard
bootloader. Maybe it is corrupt or
something, but it was quite happy with
the bootloader that Rescatux installed.
It only needed a few clicks, one of them
to confirm that I wanted to boot the
installation of Devuan it had found, and
a few minutes later I had a perfectly
working PC.
The other achievement of the day
was to give in and order a takeaway for
dinner. I reasoned that I needed
something that I knew would reduce my
blood glucose level down to something
more acceptable. A Chinese or Indian
takeaway, apart from being supremely
nice, would not do it, but shish kebabs
can. I ordered a large chicken and a
large lamb shish kebab, and although
expensive they were big.
The designations of small, or
standard, large or extra large mean what
ever the restaurant wants them to mean.
I often find that the large costs little
more than small, and yet the large
contains considerable more meat. The
curious thing is that the last time I
used The Ladywell steak and kebab house
I feel sure it was all presented
differently. Last night the salad came
in separate containers, and I didn't
rate it very highly. It was OK though,
and at least the meat seemed very good.
I did two other things late last
night, apart from watching some TV, and
reading, I went online and ordered a new
2TB 2.5" hard drive for the little PC I
have been playing with. I noted that 2TB
seems to be the sweet spot for hard
drives at the moment. It is the
"standard" size, and so is the most
economical (about £60). Many want much
bigger drives, and double the capacity
is well over double the price, while
half the capacity is more than half the
price. The other thing I did was to take
a couple of Paracetamol tablets.
The result of those painkillers
was a very comfortable night with
apparently lots of great sleep. It
seemed just so easy to lay my head on
the pillow and fall asleep in minutes,
if not seconds. That happened after the
3 or so times I got up for a pee as
well. I even fell asleep easily in my
dreams ! The only dream I can remember
was about sitting in a classroom,
probably at college level, and falling
asleep during the demonstrations !
This morning I didn't want to get
up because I felt warm and comfortable
in bed, and yet it got to the point
where try as I might, I could not stay
asleep. I got up at about 7.30am, and
that felt like a fair time for a Sunday.
I was very happy to find my blood
glucose had indeed dropped - right down
to 7.9mmol/l from 9.4mmol/l yesterday
morning. And that was despite have two
portions of instant noodles for lunch
yesterday. Instant noodles seem to be an
unknown quantity - sometimes they seem
to make my blood glucose rise, and
sometimes don't affect it.
I really don't know what is
happening today - literally. Jodie would
usually come over in the afternoon for
some more beer tasting, but I have a
feeling she is otherwise busy today. I
will have to get a confirmation from her
nearer the afternoon. There are a few
things I must do today - mainly
housework sort of stuff. The kitchen
rubbish bin is getting a bit smelly, and
needs to be emptied into the black
wheelie bin. The recycling bag has now
expanded into two bags, and needs to ne
taken out to the green wheelie bin. I
also need to do a sink full of washing
up. Oh well, that sounds like enough
work for one day!
