The weather
forecast may be a bit optimistic about
the amount of sunshine we can expect
today. At the moment we have had a few
short sunny spells, and the cloud looks
too thick for many, or any more.
The latest update still shows full
sunshine for 11am and midday, but I
don't feel quite as optimistic as that.
1pm and 2pm now show as just sunny
spells. After that it will be just white
cloud. It is going to be another very
cool day. It was 4 or 5° C when I got
up, and maybe we can look forward to a
chilly 8° C this afternoon. Tomorrow is
predicted to start cloudy, and the cloud
will thicken through the day. There is a
60% chance of rain at 1pm, and from then
until the end of the day the chance of
rain goes up to 90% !
Yesterday was one
of those days where time seemed to fly
by without the aid of any
distractions. I did a few tangible
things that passed some times, and the
first of these was a shopping trip to
Tesco. I seemed to spend a fair bit of
money in Tesco, but two thirds of it
was just lots of little things. A
third of it was on a 3 pack of
underpants. The silly thing is that I
have loads of perfectly serviceable
underpants, but I fancied a change,
and I don't know why.
Well I can offer one
explanation - I spotted some different
coloured underpants. There was one
pack of three that had two shades of
blue, plus one black, in it, but to my
great annoyance they didn't do them in
the larger sizes. At that point I
should have walked away, but having
come that I close I did select a pack
of three that had bright coloured
elastic at the top of almost ordinary
black.
I did find a few bargains. I
grabbed two packs of diced lamb that
were reduced from something like £4.50
to £2.79. That is quite a good
discount for the Catford Tesco. In the
Sainsburys local by Catford Station
every thing is discounted to half
price once it is close enough to it's
sell by date, and they want to be sure
it sells. I'm looking forward to a
couple of lamb and (green) vegetable
stews soon.
One thing I regret buying is
all the instant noodles. I should have
gone to the little supermarket on the
bridge for those. It seems that the
Batchelors "Low Fat" instant noodles
do have a significant amount of sugar
in them. I have grave suspicions about
some of the instant noodles I bought
yesterday, and particularly for some
of them on the "Oriental Foods"
section. They don't have the very
convenient "traffic lights"
nutritional panel, and the nutritional
panel on the back doesn't even have a
separate section for sugar. It appears
to be counted in with the
carbohydrates.
The final significant thing I
bought from Tesco was a Valentines
card. It was just what I wanted for
someone who sadly isn't a lover, and
may never be despite us loving each
other a lot. It's message was really
for very close friends, and that
seemed appropriate. As soon as I had
put my groceries away I sat down and
wrote a message in the card, and as
tradition dictates, I left it
unsigned. I then rushed out to post
it. I could then start to relax.
I couldn't relax too much
because lunch time was approaching,
and I was looking forward to some
lunch. It was to be a tin of minced
beef and onion eaten as a soup. Should
have had no more sugar in it than most
of the true soups I eat - unless they
did something despicable and gave the
amount per quarter tin or something
worse. I think I probably had my lunch
before I started washing a small load
of laundry. I say small, because in
terms of big stuff there were only two
t-shirts in it, but there were at
least 5 pairs of underpants - almost
everlasting underpants since I started
hand washing them 10 or more years
ago.
With the laundry done I could
really relax, but not the way I
wanted. I wanted to get back to
reading the book I am currently
reading, but I had about 15 tabs open,
each with a different news story, in
my web browser, and that was before I
refreshed the first tab which was the
home page of
https://www.theregister.com/
and later, when I did refresh it I
found another 16 more news stories I
wanted to read. (and this morning I
suspect there will be even more when I
refresh it). Many of those tech news
stories are not that interesting, but
until you read them that can't always
be predicted. Others are fascinating.
I did eventually get to my
book, and I even managed a short
snooze. I think it was yesterday I
said the books was a bit tedious, but
that I expected that once the
background info had been described it
would start to get more interesting.
Since last night I am now a quarter of
the way through the book, and at last
the pace has picked up, and it is has
started to get a lot more enjoyable.
One more thing I bought from
Tesco was some cod in breadcrumbs, and
because I don't like to try and keep
fish too long (unless deep frozen) I
had that for my dinner in preference
to the diced lamb that I was looking
forward to. I had that cod with runner
beans. I'm not sure they were a great
combination, but they weren't bad, and
of course added something I could call
"green vegetables" to my meal.
I seemed to be feeling quite
sleepy last night, and I think I put
my book down quite early, and I think
I fell asleep quite quickly. I am sort
of annoyed that I didn't pay more
attention to the time. On the whole I
slept well last night, but I did seem
to be dreaming a lot. One dream, in
the early part of my sleep, was almost
like I was writing up an idea for a TV
series. It was to be about some sort
of flying boat, capable of vertical
take off and landing, that could
travel through time. My
imagination only seemed to go as far
as imagining different sorts of
landings and take-offs.
A series of dreams later in the
early morning seemed to be about
horses and railways. It was almost
like it was some sort of military
pageant. The dream started with me
near Ladywell Station, and I passed
lots of horses with military type
riders as I walked back towards
Catford Bridge through the park. I
think it was in one of the earliest
dreamlets that featured a bright
green horse box that was the height
and length of a double decker bus,
albeit slightly thinner.
I passed many groups of horses
and riders in the park, and each group
seemed to be lead by a mounted
policeman. When I got to Catford
Bridge I saw the same, or a similar
green horse box on the other side of
the railway, pulled up next to the
platform. I was fiddling around with a
little pocket sized camera when a very
young looking man wearing a khaki
coloured sweater, and no other
insignia, but somehow was a general
asked me if I wanted to take some
pictures of the horses in the horse
box.
I said yes please, but that
meant walking to the road bridge to
cross to the other platform. It seemed
like we were walking through a large
hall, and I lost my guide before we
got to the other end. It was then that
I was approached by someone I
obviously knew, and she asked me to
massage her shoulders because they
were very stiff. The thing is that she
was wearing an open jacket with
nothing on underneath it. Somehow I
didn't seem to be able to see if her
nakedness extended below her
waistline. I did massage her
shoulders, but I really wanted
to......err, I woke up soon after
that.
This morning is one of those
mornings where technically I am
constipated, although I feel zero
discomfort. This is probably because I
went
a lot yesterday morning.
I probably started the day rather
empty. It is probably my imagination,
but it seems on mornings like this
morning my blood glucose is higher,
and whether there is any cause and
effect, my blood glucose has gone up
to a most annoying 8.8mmol/l. That is
well below the danger area, but it
messes up my running average, and I
was really hoping that this month
would end on another record low - an
even lower low !
The really annoying thing is
that I don't think I ate anything that
much different to days when I have had
much lower readings. The
low fat
noodles I had in the morning
definitely had over double the amount
of sugar than the
normal fat
versions. I did have two small packets
of crisps in the afternoon while I was
reading from my PC screen, but in the
past I seem to have survived such a
treat. Going out on a limb, there is
one possible explanation for the
higher reading, and that was that it
was an inaccurate reading. This
morning I used the very last test
strip in the packet. I have a rather
desperate theory that once the sealed
pack is opened the strips can start to
deteriorate because of moisture, or
even oxygen in the air. Tomorrow I
will open a new pack, and hopefully
the reading will be lower again.
Today is yet another day when I
have no idea what I am doing. I feel
it is too cold for any sort of
enjoyable walk. Besides the cold,
there seems to be rather less sunshine
than promised. It is very cloud right
now - when the forecast says it should
be full on sunshine - and the only
sign the sun is still alight is a
glaringly bright patch of cloud when
the sun should be. One thing I would
half like to do today is to go to
Chain's gig at The Railway in
Blackheath. It would be good to see
them again, but I still can't seem to
change my internal clock to go out
instead of going to bed. On top of
that is that I really don't like The
Railway. It is the pub that did, and I
expect still does, only take card
payments, and I consider that a very
dangerous way of drinking !
