This morning
has started off nice and bright, and the
sun is shining through my window as I
write this. Unfortunately it won't last.
The latest revision to the forecast
shows light rain starting at 1pm, and
while there may be an hours respite at
4pm, the rain will not finished until
just after it gets dark tonight. The
temperature will be mostly 7 or 8° C
with possibly a brief rise to 9° C at
1pm (and 1pm only according to the
latest revision to the forecast).
Tomorrow may see a brief spike to 10° C,
but from 8am to 2pm rain is expected,
and most of it is predicted to be heavy
rain.
There is not a lot
to say about yesterday. Apart from the
afternoon beer session with Jodie, not
a lot happened. Of course there was
the little excitement in the morning,
but that was all rather unpleasant,
and I have already mentioned it
yesterday.
Once I had finished writing yesterday
I washed my hair, and had a shower.
After that I was doing little more
than quietly reading, and waiting for
Jodie to arrive in the afternoon.
Jodie surprised me by turning
up earlier than expected, and I had to
answer the front door wearing an old
t-shirt that didn't fit. I was just in
the process of trying it on, to see if
it fitted any better than it did when
I first bought it some 8 or 9 years
ago (at a guess), when Jodie rung my
doorbell. The t-shirt was one of those
annoying types that fit absolutely
perfectly in 2 dimension, but not in
the third. It sometimes make me wonder
what sort men have a large chest, and
possibly large gut, but are only 3ft
high. That t-shirt was a very
comfortable fit, but it didn't reach
down much below my belly button, and
of course every time I breathed out my
bare belly was visible.
Yesterday afternoons beer
session was very typical. Jodie spent
a lot of time on her phone, and only
some of it was checking in the beers
she was drinking on the untappd web
site. One small difference is that I
had some rather good beers, and one in
particular, a special Xmas ale was
very nice. The taste was different,
but the style reminded me a lot of the
old Young's Winter Water before they
watered it down (and then apparently
stopped brewing it because no one
liked it then). It was a very deep
ruby/chestnut colour, almost black,
and it had spicy under and overtones.
Jodie left soon after 6pm to
get the train to meet her truelove
(!!!) Alan at Clockhouse. She
requested a final short, actually
Akavit, to keep out the cold and rain.
For some unknown reason I seemed to be
quite happy with the beers I drank. We
got through quite a few, although it
has to be remembered that each can or
bottle was split half each, and so
many of them ended up as no more than
a quarter pint taster. I doubt I even
had two pints in total. No wonder I
felt sober last night.
Yesterday's morning blood
glucose reading was exceptionally
good, and I wanted to try and get
another nice low reading this morning.
I did wonder if it would be possible
after the Xmas ale we drank. That did
taste quite sweet, although it wasn't
sticky like some strong ales can be.
In the morning I had my now usual
single bowl of instant noodles, and
for lunch I had a single can of pea
and ham soup. I did have a couple of
small packets of salt and vinegar
crisps before the drinking commenced.
While drinking I had a small
packet of twiglets. Early in the
afternoon, well before Jodie arrived,
I started cooking my dinner. It was
some diced lamb in stock. I gave it
two spins in the microwave before we
started drinking, and as Jodie was
getting ready to leave I added some
sliced leek, and a few florets of
cauliflower and brocolli before giving
it another 10 minutes in the
microwave. It was not as nice as I
hoped it would be. Maybe it was
because it was diced leg of lamb,
although why that was I have no idea.
The good thing, or at least hoped for
good thing, was that it was that it
should have had a very low sugar
content - and possibly most of it from
the leeks.
I stayed up late last night
because I watched an episode each of
QI and Have I Got News For You on
Dave, and I think the latter may have
finished at 10pm. I then went to bed
to read, and I read until my eyelids
were drooping. That probably only took
less than 30 minutes. It was a shame
because the pace of the book has
really speeded up now, and it is
getting exciting.
I slept well for most of the
night, but I had maybe almost an hour
of insomnia starting around 4.30am.
That is an unusual time for it. Even
when I did get to sleep I still woke
up, and got up early at about 6.45am.
It feels like I had all the sleep I
needed now, but maybe later in the day
I will feel a strong desire for a
snooze or three. I have faint memories
of a selection of dreams, and one may
have included a bit of eroticism. Only
one tiny bit of one mostly unmemorable
dream stuck in my mind. I was saying
goodbye to a woman who I was probably
not going to see again. As she walked
away she something that sounded like
"don't worry, I have a surfboard".
That rather puzzled me, and still does
!
Maybe the snacks, or maybe the
beer, had their affect, and my blood
glucose reading had gone up this
morning, but not by much, and
7.0mmol/l is still excellent. A few
more low readings like that and my
running average for the month is going
to dip below 8.00mmol/l for the first
time in absolute ages. It was just
8.09mmol/l this morning, and so there
is very little to go to get below 8.
If I can somehow keep this up until
the end of the week I feel I might
treat myself to something that will
ruin it all - maybe something like a
takeaway curry or Chinese.
The next things this morning
will be to have a shower and to do
some laundry. I don't know what will
happen after that apart from the
expectation it will start to rain from
about 1pm. With no real pun intended,
that will put a damper on any outdoor
activities today. In theory I could go
out in the morning sunshine, but I am
still hoping for a parcel delivery
today. If it comes it will be my new
Nikon pocket camera. If it comes
parcel post it could arrive at any
time, and the last time was sometime
around 8am. It is well past that now,
and so maybe my hope lies in t being
delivered with the normal post. It
should only be a small packet after
all. I have a feeling that I will pass
a rainy afternoon doing more work to
my spreadsheet listing all my train
photos. Sooner or later I will have to
go through my negative scans because I
was taking pictures on film almost 40
years ago.
