The sun
should be shining from a clear blue sky
until 11am this morning, but after that
the clouds come back, and the afternoon
will start rather grey, and maybe for an
hour or so it will be very grey. The
latest revision to the forecast now
shows 5pm as just another cloudy hour.
The afternoon temperature will be 10° C.
Tomorrow will probably feature a lot of
mostly light rain, but when tomorrow,
and when and if there will be some sunny
spells late in the afternoon, will
likely be very different than what the
forecast shows now. One thing that
probably won't change is that it will be
a very cool day. The day will start at
9° C, and then it will get gradually
colder. By 11pm tomorrow it could be
down to 4° C, and possibly still
falling.
I think I can describe yesterday
as "satisfactory" (but with out the
implied sneer when that word was used on
school reports). I was particularly
impressed with the morning sunshine -
maybe more than impressed considering
the weather forecast didn't initially
say there would be any sunshine at all !
Before the sunshine ended I put on my
rucksack and went shopping, and I didn't
even feel the need to wear a coat. That
was a mistake because the sunshine
failed on my walk back home under a
stormy looking sky.
I first went to Savers where I
bought an assortment of drugs plus some
shampoo and conditioner, and some
bottles of bleach. I then went into
Poundstretcher where I bought more
drugs, more bleach, and a few edible
things. I was disappointed that they
didn't seem to have any cheap bleach
(79p a bottle last time), and I
had to by proper branded stuff (Domestos
and Parazone). Fortunately it was not
too expensive, although I have strong
suspicion that £1.89 is probably a lot
more than I could get it for in Aldi.
I bought two edible things. One
was a bag of cheese ball type things.
They were corn based (I think) and
mainly because they are mostly air, I
knew that they were quite low sugar. The
other thing was most definitely not low
sugar ! It was a bag of Cadbury's
chocolate éclairs. I expected them to
have chocolate on the outside, but there
was something brown and gooey on the
inside of a hard toffee shell. I ate
just one of them yesterday, and I aim to
eat no more than one per day, and
probably less than that. It shouldn't be
too hard because I found them to be
quite disappointing.
Walking home under a dirty grey
sky was not pleasant at all, but at
least it stayed dry for another hour or
two. I still felt rather good when I got
home. I guess it was because I had done
something positive, and I had bits and a
till receipt to prove it - not that I
needed to prove it to anyone except my
self. I thought it deserved a short rest
once I had packed away what I had
bought. I think I wanted a snooze, but
evidently I didn't need one, and didn't
have one.
The rest of yesterday was filled
up with reading, more CD ripping, and
some more work cataloguing all the best
of my train pictures in an ever growing
spreadsheet. That catalogue job seems to
be ever lasting. It doesn't help that I
keep adding more information to it, plus
things like embedded links to wikipedia.
It's completion will never truly come if
I keep taking pictures, as I have plans
for this year, but getting it up to
current date may not take too much
longer. The next time I sit down with it
I will be starting from the year 2020,
and during the Covid years I didn't do a
lot of train photography. Once 2020,
2021, and anything this year have been
done I will need to go back through my
scans of negatives taken on my old film
camera. Sadly I won't be able to put an
exact date on those, and often not even
the exact year.
Yesterday morning I had a single
bowl of noodles for breakfast, and I had
the bag of cheese ball things (as
described above) for a sort of lunch. I
also had a few other snacks. Mostly that
was just a few peanuts now and then as I
was working, but I also had a couple of
oranges that were only medium sweet. I
feel like I had something else, but I
can't recall what it might have been -
maybe just a chunk of cheese to nibble
on.
My dinner was sort of constrained
by what I had bought on Monday in Aldi.
It was some cod in crunchy breadcrumbs.
I could have had other stuff, but I
don't like to keep unfrozen fish in the
fridge for too long. I had that fish
with a small can of garden peas. It is a
nice combination, but those peas are
known (to me) as having a negative
effect on my blood glucose readings the
next morning. Other stuff I ate would
also contribute some sugar.
Last night was another night with
hardly any TV. After the single episode
of The Simpsons ended on Channel 4 I
turned the TV off because I couldn't
find anything listed that grabbed my
attention. The sad thing is that I
missed the last 10 minutes of The
Simpsons while I was getting my dinner
together. I did turn the TV on again at
9pm (or was it 8pm ?) to start watching
an old episode of QI. It had the
potential to be a good episode, but this
episode featured Johnny Vegas, and I
can't stand him. 10 minutes into the
show I switched off and went to bed.
I read in bed for a bit longer,
but at 10pm I put the book down, turned
out the light, and tried for sleep. At
10.15pm nothing happened. What seemed to
be just 5 minutes later was actually
nearly 3 hours later. I don't know if I
was extra tired, or just some sort of
luck, but nearly all my night was like
that. I only woke up for a pee a couple
of times, and each time I didn't think I
would be able to fall asleep again, but
the next thing I was aware of was that 2
or 3 hours had passed. It was only after
6am that I had something resembling
insomnia, but that was only because I
probably didn't need to sleep any long.
I think I managed to get two more
very short sleeps before I realised it
was light outside, and it then
definitely felt like time to get up. I
guess I felt reasonably OK when I got
up. My blood glucose had gone up to
7.9mmol/l, but I was sort of expecting
that, and it is still a good reading.
After most readings typically being in
the area of 8.5mmol/l for so long,
anything under 8.0mmol/l is good news,
although I think my target once I am out
and about a bit more, frolicking in the
sunshine (sort of), will be 7.0mmol/l.
There is only one thing of
importance on the agenda today. It's
Wednesday, and I am looking forward to
meeting Angela for a drink during her
lunch hour. It is a shame that we will
have lost the sunshine, and it could
even be rather dull when I walk through
the park. I think today, unlike last
week, I will be wearing a coat with
sleeves. One thing I think I will do is
to go via the little supermarket on
Catford Bridge to buy a couple of
Kohlrabis to present one each to Asia,
the barmaid, and Angela. I have a
feeling I might get the train from
Catford Bridge to Ladywell - mainly
because I can, and not that there is any
need for it - except I might pick up a
copy of The Metro while at one of the
stations.
