The forecast
for yesterday showed quite a few hours
that were supposed to be dry, but
weren't ! This morning the forecasters
have filled in nearly every hour with
light or heavy rain. The latest revision
shows that 4 and 8pm
may not
feature rain. It is going to be another
cold day, colder than yesterday, with
the temperature mostly 6 or 7° C.
Tomorrow should be brighter, and there
is the chance of a sunny spell at 5pm.
The temperature should reach 12° C for a
few hours - almost double the
temperature today !
The horrid weather dampened my
spirits a lot yesterday. I guess I sort
of enjoyed going out to get some
shopping from Tesco in one the drier
periods of yesterday morning, but I
couldn't raise my enthusiasm to do much
more. I ended up having an exceptionally
lazy day.
I was very careful about what I
bought in Tesco, but I did make some
errors. The very worst was a bag of
honey glazed salted peanuts and cashew
nuts. I was sure the bag I picked up
just said salted. I assume there were
some, and it was just an error picking
up the honey glazed version. I won't
waste them, but I'll have to wash off
the honey and sugar before I can eat
them
Another possible error was buying
some spicy prawns in batter. I had them
for my lunch. Without fishing the packet
out of the waste bin I can't be sure,
but I have a strong suspicion that there
was a lot of sugar in the batter to give
it a nice crunchy brown colour. I
suspect that is even more true of the
cod in batter I had for my dinner. That
definitely seemed to have a rich,
crunchy toffee like batter. It was very
nice too - which can sometime be a
giveaway.
I didn't actually do nothing
yesterday. I did do a lot of reading,
and I might, or might not have had a
snooze or two. I remember laying on my
bed, eyes closed, and just listening to
music. I can't remember if I did
actually sleep at any time. I wanted to
because I was bored, but I'm not sure it
happened. I did several very small jobs
- most taking a few minutes. One was to
check and charge the batteries from my
mostly redundant video lights. There
just never seems to be an occasion to
use them these days.
I could have succumbed to the
"opiate of the people" yesterday - day
time TV, or even evening TV, but it was
too much effort to force myself to watch
undiluted crap ! I did watch one episode
of The Simpsons while I ate my rather
small dinner. After that I turned off
the TV, and did some web surfing.
Somehow the evening seemed to flash by.
It was hard to believe that even when
generally bored I was actually quite
late getting to sleep. I rationalised it
by thinking it would be good practice
for nights when I want to go to gigs.
I think it was about 11pm when I
fell asleep. A couple of hours passed
by, and then I woke up feeling cold. I
turned the heater up, and after a pee I
went back to sleep. I have a vague
recollection that I dreamed, but I
remember nothing of the dream. It was
actually more like that during a single
blink the clock moved on nearly 3 hours.
That happened twice. I think I came very
close to getting 8 hours of pretty good
sleep last night.
One odd thing was that despite
drinking two 440ml (just over 3/4 pint)
cans of Guinness early yesterday
afternoon, I didn't seem to be waking up
for a pee as much as usual. It even
seemed less than usual as a result of my
blood glucose level. It is all odder
because my blood glucose was a bit high
this morning. It was 8.6mmol/l. The
worst thing was just that it spoiled a
nice run of lower readings. The Guinness
may have contributed something, but it
doesn't usually. I feel the blame lies
on the battered prawns and more so, the
battered cod I ate yesterday.
It's a Wednesday, and unless I
hear otherwise, the highlight of the day
will be spending an hour with Angela in
the pub at lunchtime. Even having to
walk through the park in the rain can't
dampen my enthusiasm for it. The only
possible
negative thing is that after an hour of
joy the cold, damp and grey world could
come crashing back into my reality, and
leave me feeling quite depressed for the
rest of the day.
