Yesterday's weather
was rather good, and apart from the morning,
when the forecast couldn't make up it's mind
if it should be sunny or cloudy (it was
sunny), it did basically follow the forecast.
The afternoon temperature peaked at 21° C. The
early forecast said only sunny spells in the
afternoon, but I seem to remember some quite
extended periods of sunshine. After sunset the
temperature began to drop, as expected, but by
midnight it was probably still 12° C.
As usual I am
showing the Met Office weather forecast in the
screenshot above, but maybe today I should be
using the BBC weather forecast because it got
off to a better start, and has a more
optimistic climax. It said today would start
with mist, and it did, and they reckon the
afternoon temperature will reach 20° C.
Meanwhile the Met Office have taken a more
pessimistic view of the temperature, although
they do agree it will be non stop sunshine all
day. In the early version they said the
afternoon temperature would only be 17° C, and
they haven't changed it several hours later.
The BBC have changed their forecast to say
that now there will only be sunny spells for
most of the day, and that the afternoon
temperature will only be 18° C. If the
forecast for tomorrow has any credibility
there will only be sunny spells in the
morning, but the afternoon may still reach 18°
C.
As I mentioned yesterday, my mild
vertigo appeared again in the night, and I was
suffering from it when I first got up. However
it was not as bad as the previous day, and it
seemed to fade away a lot faster yesterday
morning. It seems there is fair chance that
dripping some almond oil in my ears, to help
soften any hard wax, may have been beneficial.
I will treat my ears the same today, but since
fairly early in the morning yesterday I would
seem to be over that particular nuisance.
Not that much happened yesterday, but
it was more than nothing, and overall it was
probably a good day. I had to get properly
washed yesterday because I would be seeing
Jodie in the afternoon (I think it was the day
before when I didn't really even bother to
wash or dress because nothing was happening,
and I didn't feel all that good for some of
the time). Having had a good scrub, I got
dressed ready to go out to Tesco.
Yesterday was Good Friday, and I wasn't
sure Tesco would be open, but it seems most of
the shops were open, including Tesco. It
seemed like it was busy in Tesco when I got
there, but I guess everyone saw me coming an
exited quickly or something. Alternatively I
assumed the knot of people I could see when I
first looked through the doors represented the
whole store. Once I was inside I could see
that it wasn't that busy. The good thing is
that it seems the store thought it would be
busy, and so had more checkouts staffed than
usual. Once I had been around the store I
managed to go straight to an empty checkout.
Top of my shopping list was a couple of
bottles of Diet Coke. I was also hoping to get
a couple of bottles of some other sugar free
fizzy drinks. Tesco used to do a good variety,
but apart from Lemonade, I couldn't see any
other own brand sugar free drinks. That left a
bit of room in my rucksack, and so I grabbed a
couple of bottles of cider to add to my
collection.
I wasn't really intending to buy a lot
yesterday, but I ended up with a fair bit in
my rucksack, and a medium heavy bag as well. A
lot of the weight in the bag was bird feed !
Added weight in the ruck sack included 4 cans
of soup as well as the Diet Coke and bottles
of cider. I find it hard to resist a bargain,
and I found a few items on the reduced price
shelf. They included two tubs of half price
"Greek Style Orzo Salad". I didn't really know
what that was, but it seemed to be low sugar,
and so I thought I had better try it. The
final thing was a four pack of cheese and
potato pasties.
I have to admit it felt good striding
to and from Tesco in just a t-shirt in the
warm weather. I didn't have any vertigo at all
- which was very good. Once I got back home I
really didn't have much to do except try one
of those cheese and potato pasties I ate it
cold, and that made it slightly stodgy, but
still enjoyable. I'm not saying it was great,
but I ate two more before bedtime (and Jodie
took one to eat later).
Jodie arrived a bit earlier than
expected, not that much after 3pm, and she
arrived with a pile of wild garlic mustard
heads that she had picked in the park. Now the
funny thing is that Jodie hates garlic, but by
the time she left the room was stinking of
garlic after she added piles of her pickings
to her dinner that she ate while drinking.
One of the beers Jodie brought
was a special beer. She says that one of the
Ukrainian breweries had managed to bulk ship
their entire stock of beer to a French brewery
where it would canned or bottled for wider
distribution. This was one such beer,
and the label was in the now familiar yellow
and blue colours of the Ukraine flag. The
message on the side, to a Russian warship was
both amusing and pertinent.
Several, or more of the beers we drunk
yesterday were quite strong, and a few had
exotic flavours. The Ukrainian beer was 6.5%,
and contained beetroot. Having once had some
cider that was brewed with beetroot, and was
the most disgusting drink I have ever tried
(and could only manage a couple of mouthfuls
of it) I was very wary about this beer. I was
the deepest purple/red you have even seen, but
it was actually very, very nice.
Another beer we had was 10.3%, and it
too had some nice exotic flavours - including
peanut butter, but I thought the overall taste
was more like hazelnuts. One beer was pear and
ginger flavoured. I poured most of my half
glass of it into Jodie's glass because I
thought it tasted more like a strong cleaning
product than beer. Our session went on a
bit longer than usual because Jodie was
waiting for Alan to arrive.
Jodie's plan was that they were going
to go to some bar or pub near Peckham where
they sold more Ukrainian beer. The problem was
that the bar was due to close at 8pm (because
of it being Good Friday), and Alan didn't
arrive until gone 7pm. They eventually left to
go to The Chandos pub in Brockley/Honour Oak.
I know of the pub, and where it is, but I have
no idea what the pub is like. Maybe I'll get a
report about it the next time I see Jodie.
Once Alan and Jodie had left I could
get my rather late dinner ready. Like two
other meals/big snacks I had eaten earlier, it
was the last of my Chinese takeaway from the
previous night. It was noodles and mixed meat
sort of thing - greasy, but very nice. My
breakfast had been a half portion of
spicy rice, and my lunch (part 1) was a
different sort of mixed rice. Lunch parts 2
and 3 were the cheese and potato pasties I
mentioned further up the page.
Everything I ate yesterday was, to one
degree or another, a bit stodgy. Possibly none
of it was a good choice when constipated. I
didn't go once yesterday, and I thought that
curried lentils may have been more appropriate
than rice and pasties. I didn't feel
uncomfortable during the day, and during the
night I was only aware of "things happening".
I don't think it was a major contribution to a
lousy night's sleep.
It seems to be happening a lot these
days that a change in the weather somehow
upsets my equilibrium, and I can't seem to
find a good temperature for sleeping. Last
night my room felt warm, and I didn't put any
heating on. I seemed to be comfortable with
just one foot, and an arm under the duvet, but
I still seemed to wake up almost every hour. I
seemed to wake up at least once an hour
through the whole night, but it is quite
possible I dreamed I had woken up.
A dream being confused with reality
definitely happened once last night. I seemed
to have lots of very short dreams, and I am
sure it is going to take longer to type the
description of the dream than the actual
dream. I dreamed I had woke up, and needed a
pee. I got out of bed, and went to the toilet.
I found the light in there very dim, and as I
fumbled to lift the seat of the toilet I
dropped it, and it broke the hinges. I propped
the seat up against the wall, and went back to
bed, seemingly without having that pee. As
soon as I got into bed I woke up for real, and
went for a pee in a brightly lit bathroom,
with the seat firmly attached to the hinge !
The shortest dream seems to consist of
me just saying two words, and annoyingly I
can't remember what those words were. Another
dream was a lot longer, but I only remember
the nice bit where I was cuddling a woman at a
bus stop. I obviously knew her well, but I
have no idea of anyone in the real world who
looks anything like her. I continued to battle
the temperature in my bedroom all night. I
think it was around 2am when I turned the
heater on low because I was feeling cold. By
6.30am, when I started to get up, I felt like
I had had a terrible night.
I guess there may have been a small
contribution from a very light hangover to my
feeling bad, but I was tired more than
anything else. The good news is that despite
some quite sweet beers, and eating mostly
inappropriate things, my blood glucose was
down to a very average 8.5mmol/l this morning.
That is rather better than I dared hope for.
Now I have to work out what I will
probably be doing today. I feel I ought to
take advantage of the last in a small series
of bright and warm days, and do something
outside. (From Monday the weather will revert
to early spring instead of early summer). As I
sit here typing, with the clock creeping
towards 11am, I am wondering if I am going to
get in the right state of mind to go out. The
next thing I fancy doing is having a snooze !
