I've seen two
revisions to the weather forecast since taking
the screenshot above much earlier this
morning. For a while the forecast said that
this morning would be very sunny, but the
latest revision just takes the easy path and
says sunny spells all day. There has been some
good sunshine this morning, and it seems to
have been warmer than the 16° C. I reckon it
is currently (9.08am) 20° C. There is a fair
amount of cloud to be seen, but not enough to
completely block the sun, and so sunny spells
seems to be about the correct prediction. This
afternoon should see the temperature reach 22°
C. A mostly clear night could see the
temperature drop to just 13° C by 6am
tomorrow. Sunshine and sunny spells should get
it back up to 22° C again.
Yesterday was another of those days
that was both good and bad. I didn't really do
anything, apart from catching up on some
internet reading, until almost midday when I
went shopping in Aldi. I haven't been to Aldi
for a few weeks, and so it was interesting to
see what they had, and didn't have. They seem
to have run out of mayonnaise, and my
favourite balsamic salad dressing. I did buy
some Aldi branded balsamic vinegar, and noted
it's sugar content was lower that the balsamic
vinegar I recently bought from Tesco.
There were two things I bought that
were bad for me, but only one of them also
turned out to be a bit nasty. The nice, but
terribly unhealthy, was a small Melton Mowbray
pork pie. They probably look nicer than they
really are, but it was still pretty good, and
I scoffed the lot for my lunch. The other bad
thing was awful. It was "Bacon Mayo". It was
slimy, didn't taste nice, and like many
flavoured mayonnaises, it was packed with
sugar. The nutrition information on the front
of the bottle makes it look OK until you see
in the small print that the info refers to a
single tablespoon of the stuff !
It is tempting to say I did nothing in
the afternoon, but I did do a few important
things. I paid off both my credit cards, and
increased my standing orders to the gas and
electric. Those two are getting bloody
expensive. I am now spending just under a
third of my pension on just the electricity
bill. It is a bit depressing. Hopefully I will
rack up a bit of credit during the summer
months, but unless the bloody government can
rein in the power companies, winter is really
going suck up most of my income !
The other thing I did was to go through
the pictures of train I had taken on my
Freedom Pass Quest trip last Saturday. I
managed to snap quite a few trains that I
hadn't got entries for in my great big
spreadsheet cataloguing train pictures. I'll
admit that spreadsheet has got a bit out of
hand. It started just to record one type of
train, and has expanded to include all but
steam trains.
I think I was very careless about what
I ate yesterday. The trouble was that I ate so
many bad things. I could have got away with
them individually, but all on one day was not
good. The second problem is that I am unsure
what all the bad things were. The pork pie was
obviously bad. Oddly enough, the Aldi ready
made salad, that I had as a sort of starter
for me dinner, was not good because of the
sweet cherry tomatoes in it. I've been caught
out by those before ! The main course of my
dinner was some Tesco Finest port sausages.
I had to eat them because they
were on their use by day when I bought them
(and that meant they were nearly half price).
They were a couple of days older than that
last night. I have no proof, but I have
suspicion that sugar was an added ingredient
to make them more lush, and so deserve the
"Finest" (most expensive) label. It seemed a
good idea at the time, but I'll admit that
with hindsight it was a most stupid idea to
squirt "Bacon Mayo" on them. Not only was the
stuff rather unpleasant, but that is now known
to have a high sugar content.
The previous night I thought I had a
really lousy sleep. I can't recall having a
snooze yesterday, but I may have done because
I didn't seem to feel very sleepy last night.
Not feeling sleepy was a bit strange because
when I finally turned out the light at gone
10pm I experienced something like 15 minutes
of insomnia, and then it was 3am ! I can only
remember getting up for a pee twice in the
night, and it is a very dreamy, and possibly
untrue memory.
I can remember a couple of
dreams, although one of them is more a memory
of the setting rather than any action. It was
another dream set in a multi occupancy
industrial estate. I think I was exploring it,
but nothing definite really stands out. One
dream I do remember quite vividly. It happened
sometime after 4am when I was aware it was
light outside. I may have even got up for a
pee, and seen it was light outside. The dream
happened after I got back to sleep.
This dream was actually a real life
memory taken to extremes. I don't recall any
build up to the dream. It seemed to start with
me by my front door, and finding the latch
hadn't clicked home. That did happen in real
life once. In the dream it was more like the
spring in the latch had got so weak that it
was close to impossible for the latch to
strike home. I think I was still in my
underwear, and didn't want to open the door
too far, but I opened it enough so I could
flick the latch, and see if I could free it
up. As I looked through the small gap where
the door was only open a few inches, I saw
someone had dumped an old mattress, and the
remains of a settee on my front path. On that
bad news it seemed like a good time to wake up
!
It still seemed to early to wake up,
and I tried for more sleep. It never really
seemed that I fell asleep, but something like
90 minutes passed without any notion of
passing time. I guess I did sleep ! After all
the sleep I got I should have felt wonderful.
Well I wouldn't go that far, but I did feel
fairly good. It was such a shame that I wasn't
good. All my little mistakes, most of them on
purpose, rewarded me with another blood
glucose reading that crossed the red line. It
was only just over at 10.1mmol/l, and I even
checked it again after scrubbing my hands
again, and using a finger on the other hand to
give the little bead of blood for the meter.
It confirmed the first reading.
It does seem my body is becoming
increasingly insulin resistant, and the day
when I make the move to injecting insulin
seems ever closer. If it were not for a desire
to go to a gig tonight I would do another fast
until dinner time, and make sure dinner was
generally safe, but I can't do that if I go to
a gig tonight. I have already broken my fast
with a couple of fishburger patties. In the
past I regarded them as being relatively safe.
Sometime this afternoon I will have slightly
larger, and rather later, lunch. After that I
will try and fast. I will even do my best not
to have any after pub munchies !
I can't even go out on a tiring
adventure on the trains, or a long walk in the
park today. But I have a few things in mind to
pass some of the time. I have already started
to wash a couple of t-shirts, and quite a few
pairs of underpants that I hope to get out on
the line to dry in the sun. I think today is
the day I have to do something to my garden.
It is all out of control. The grass is
stupidly high, and the weeds are choking the
flower beds. I'll have to see what I can do
about it.
I almost forgot these beers that I
bought from Aldi. They seem to be a sad
reminder of the jingoism of brexit. I did try
just one of them yesterday, and it probably
added to my sugar consumption. Although the
label says ale, they are actually lagers
brewed like an ale. They were sweet, like a
lager, but with a really nasty bitterness
because of one of the hops they used. On
Sunday, when I think Jodie will be here next
for a beer tasting session, I will see what
she thinks of the other can. We will probably
drink half each, and I'll see if my
description of the taste still holds, and if
Jodie agrees that it is "Minging"!
