This morning it is
cool but sunny, but it seems it will cloud
over around 11am, and the afternoon could be
very dull. There is even a 40% chance of rain
from 6pm. It is going to feel slightly cool
with maybe only a single hour when the
temperature reaches 22° C. Tomorrow could
reach 25° C, and there could be a few hours of
sunny spells during the morning, and a few
more later in the afternoon.
Yesterday didn't work out as expected,
but I did get a few sort of useful things
done. In the morning I went to Tesco again,
and this time I did remember the bird food,
and the Marmite rice cakes that I wanted. Of
course I also bought other food for myself,
and that included some sort of nice, sort of
crap, sausage meat burger patties. I had those
for my dinner last night.
The only other food I had was a bowl of
instant noodles for breakfast, and six spicy
wings, from my takeaway the previous night.
They were not as expected. I expected them to
be grilled wings with some sort of spicy
marinade. In fact they were in "spicy"
flavoured breadcrumb batter. I think they were
probably not good for me, but I had to eat
them rather than waste them. I also had some
cream cheese and salad leaves on Marmite rice
cakes as an afternoon snack.
One thing I didn't expect to do was
some gardening, although it was only weed
clearance. It all started when I went out to
feed the birds with the bird feed I had just
purchased. I dumped that on the bird table,
and then I looked at the bird feeder. As
usual, the pigeons had crapped in the water
bowl, and were working their way through the
fat balls that were really meant for the small
birds.
The first thing I did with the bird
feeder was to get it upright again. It had
been leaning over, but hopefully the chunks of
concrete I used will help keep it upright
for time. I then rotated the feed tray,
and the water tray to make them less friendly
to big birds like pigeons, but still fine for
small birds. I was later rewarded by
seeing a sparrow having some meal worms, and
having a peck at a fat ball.
While I still had gardening gloves on -
a better grip, and some protection from the
rather filthy bird feeder - pigeons just crap
everywhere - I pulled up a load of weeds, many
of the dry and dead, from the flower bed by
the left hand fence. It was partly just
tidying up, but also to get a better look at
where a rat is getting into my garden from the
old fox tunnels under next doors garden. I
will have to come up with a better solution
some day, but I did identify two holes that I
have blocked with chunks of concrete. The
longer term solution will be make a neat line
of concrete or brick along the bottom of the
fence.
By 1 or 1.30pm I had done all the
washing up, and polished the glasses ready for
a beer tasting session with Jodie. Maybe 10
minutes later I had a phone call from Jodie to
say she wasn't coming over, or going anywhere.
It seems she had contracted food poisoning,
maybe for the second time, after eating in The
Green Dragon pub - a pub somewhere in Croydon
that I am unfamiliar with.
I had no alternate plans for the
afternoon, and just whiled away the afternoon
using the usual lazy methods - reading,
snoozing, and a bit of (recorded TV watching).
In theory I should have gone out for a walk in
the nice afternoon sunshine, but somehow that
didn't seem appealing. So not only did I
resort to the lazy things in the afternoon,
but well into the evening. Somehow I didn't go
to bed until about 11pm, and I didn't get to
sleep until midnight.
I felt really hot when I first tried to
go to sleep, and resorted to having the fan on
low until I woke up an hour or so later
feeling cold. I tried sleeping partly under
the empty duvet cover for the rest of the
night, but it never felt very comfortable. The
peculiar thing is that I can't remember any
time when I was awake for long, and I can't
remember waking up that often. Maybe it is
because I got to sleep so late that I feel I
didn't have a good night's sleep. I certainly
didn't get my full 8 hours of "beauty sleep".
This morning I got up very rapidly at
7am - I had to leap out of bed with cramp in
my right calf muscle. Other than that, I do
seem to feel sort of OK, although I don't
think I can bring myself to use any work like
"good". I've had a pint and a half of water,
and then checked my blood glucose. This
morning it is very slightly higher, but
8.5mmol/l is very average, and while it would
always be good if it were lower, I am not
bothered with it, and will only take medium
care of what I eat today.
I have just two plans for today. Once I
am fully up, washed and dressed, I intend to
pop into the surgery on my way to get some
shopping from Aldi. I have printed out my last
three months worth of blood glucose, and blood
pressure readings (using dark blue as a
substitute for black because that
cartridge has run out of ink). I will drop
them into reception for the attention of the
nurse, and leave a sarcastic comment that
maybe it might remind her that she has still
taken no action to my "Yes" response to her
two text massages reminding me my checkup is
due, and
would I like to be called to make
an appointment ?
Aldi is just around the corner to the
surgery, and so I can do both things one after
the other. Once I have done my shopping in
Aldi I have have no idea what I will do. We
will probably be losing the sunshine by then,
and with the afternoon predicted to be very
dull, with the possibility of rain, I don't
fancy any outdoor activities. It is possible
that Jodie may call and suggest we have out
beer tasting this afternoon. She didn't
mention today as a possibility yesterday, but
it would be very convenient for me.
