It is a slightly
murky and damp looking morning, but at least
it is not too cool. The latest revision to the
forecast has increased the sunny
spells/intervals from just 2 hours in the
screenshot above, to 4 hours between midday to
3pm. It may stay dry until 11pm tonight.
Yesterday there was hope that today might
reach 25° C, but it seems 24° C is the highest
temperature for today. Tomorrow may get off to
a good start with some sunshine in the
morning, but a few hours of light rain is
possible from midday. The rest of the day will
be cloudy with an afternoon temperature of 23°
C.
Maybe, in contrast to some recent
days, I can describe yesterday as being almost
a normal day, although the definition of
"normal" is not really determined. I have to
admit that I did very little in the morning. I
felt sort of lazy, and I didn't even have my
morning shower until almost midday. The one
thing I predicted I might do, going shopping
in Tesco, didn't happen.
More happened in the afternoon. I did
all the washing up in the sink, as well as the
glasses for the afternoon's beer tasting
session. I had hoped to hear from Michael, but
I think he is too wrapped up in his problems
of his wife's deteriorating dementia. I think
I ought to give him a ring soon to see how he
is getting on.
At 3.20pm I got a message from Jodie to
say she would be on the 3.24pm train, and she
arrived at my place about 20 minutes later.
She didn't seem to be that thirsty at first,
and I had to wait a good ten minutes before
she decided on what beer to try from my
fridge. I suspect she has been overdoing
the beer a lot lately, and wanted to pace
herself because she was going to spend at
least some of the evening in a bar after
drinking here.
To my delight I managed to catch her
out. I suggested we had a certain beer from
the fridge, but she said she had tried it
before, and so it was of no interest to her.
My glass was empty, but she still had half a
glass, and so I said I may as well drink it
myself. I had only taken one gulp of it before
she said "
stop !". While I had been
pouring it she had been scrolling through
untappd on her phone, and found she had no
record of drinking it. I poured half my glass
into hers, and she tried it. She had an idea
that it wouldn't be nice, but it turned out
that not only had she never tried it before,
but she also found it very nice !
After my worryingly high blood glucose
reading in the morning I was drinking on an
almost empty stomach. I doubt if I drunk more
than 3 pints when we finished drinking, but I
was feeling a little drunk. I was in that
region where my resistance was low, but worse
than that was that I also felt very hungry.
While Jodie was walking to the station, I was
on line ordering some food to be delivered.
I wasn't so drunk that I ordered what I
might really like, something like a big
steaming pile of curry, but a more sensible
order of shish kebab. Grilled meat and salad
is usually safe for me. As usual I ordered an
excess to get free delivery, and I have a cold
kebab to eat today. Last night I had a usual
lamb shish kebab, and I also had what was
described as a special chicken kebab. It
usually had a proper name, but I can't
remember what it is. It was grilled chicken
with grilled onions, and other vegetables. It
was very nice, and with luck it should have
been fairly low sugar, although both parts of
last night's dinner did include some tomato,
and tomato is a rich source of sugar.
My evening was a lot like the evening
before. I watched some stuff on TV until the
point when I realised I couldn't be bothered
to stay up to watch what was very likely to be
an edition of QI that was too fresh in my
memory. I can't be sure, but I think I was
asleep by 8.30pm last night. It seems that
maybe I had a bigger sleep deficit that I
realised because I got at least 9 hours sleep
last night.
It is hard to say if it was good or bad
sleep. After going to sleep so soon after I
had finished the last beer it was inevitable
that I would be getting up in the night to pee
quite a few times, but all except one time I
was able to fall asleep almost as my head hit
the pillow. That one time was around 3am, and
I had a sort of heat flush at that time. I had
been sleeping uncovered, and the thought
passed my mind that the heat flush could be
because of hypothermia, but that didn't seem
likely when my bedroom was still about 24 or
25° C. After a while I fell asleep, still
uncovered, and it wasn't until the last hour
or two sleep that I slept under the duvet.
I did seem to dream a lot last night,
and while I can only remember a few bits of a
few dreams, I think that all, many, or some
were about being last. In one dream I seemed
to be in a railway depot, and I had no idea
what I was doing there. Sometimes I seemed to
be exploring the place, and at other times I
was being tested as if I were applying for a
job. Very little of any of it made any sense.
Another dream featured being in a
telephone exchange. It was the same exchange I
used to work in at the start of the 1990s, but
it had been modernised. Once again I had no
idea what I was doing there, but then again I
had no idea who the crowds of people were.
Modern telephone exchanges are basically
unmanned most of the time, but this one had
all these people doing something, but I had no
idea what. What I did know is that several
times their work set off fault alarms, and
there seemed no panic about them being timing
circuits. In my day the timing was sacred
because it was needed for accurate billing. I
couldn't believe it when after one such alarm
no one could be bothered to set the clocks
closer than 3 minutes to the real time.
I woke up a few minutes after 6am, and
at other times I would probably get up then -
particularly after getting to sleep so early
the night before. I didn't expect to get back
to sleep, and so I thought I was just resting
my eyes for a few minutes before getting out
of bed. When I opened them again a whole hour
had passed. That seemed like a good time to
get up. I feel sure I couldn't get any more
sleep, and yet I do feel it would be nice to
sleep more.
This morning my blood glucose is down a
little but 9.6mmol/l is still too high. I have
had a small packet of basic chicken flavour
noodles for breakfast, and in theory that
should be safe. On the other hand I did
remember to check the nutrition panels on a
few of the fancy Asian instant noodles I've
been eating lately, and they say the sugar
content is very low. That is not what I had
assumed. It is possible that these high
readings, today and yesterday, are the result
of some sort of illness. It is notable that I
seemed to be constipated this morning. I seem
to be lurching between days of too much and
too little. It seems probable that I have some
sort of illness that is interfering with my
gut somehow.
I had assumed that today would be a
rather nicer day than how it currently looks
outside - rather grey and damp looking. Maybe
there will be sunshine, as per the forecast,
later, but at the moment I don't feel inclined
towards any extended outdoor activity. I will
still be going out in a limited way.......
Breaking news:
I am not constipated this morning !
.....The first place I will be going to is the
Covid-19 vaccination centre in Lewisham
Hospital to enquire about, and maybe even make
an appointment for my 4th Covid booster shot.
I also need to go to Tesco for a few
things, but hopefully not giving in to
temptation for stuff it would be better for me
not to eat. I might also go to the little
supermarket on the bridge to get more Polish
instant noodles - preferably tomato or
beetroot flavours if they have made it through
customs yet. If I really wanted to push the
boat out I could also visit Savers and
Poundstretcher, but they can probably wait for
another day. It is highly unlikely, but if I
felt up to it I could probably go to a gig
tonight if anyone of any interest is playing.
Chain are playing in The Fox in Keston
tonight, but that would involve a long bus
ride and maybe almost a mile walk, It sounds
unlikely, but you never know.
