It was a rather cool
night, and I think it is still closer to 15° C
rather than the 16° C forecast. The sky is
clear enough to give sunshine right now, and
not sunny spells. The latest revision shows
sunny spells at 11am giving away to a
thunderstorm at midday, and then heavy rain at
1pm. There could be further thunderstorms at
3pm, 10pm and 11pm. I don't think I have ever
seen so many thunderstorms forecast as in the
last week or so, and for at least a few days
to come. Today could be a cool 20° C. Tomorrow
could be just 19° C, and the day will be
mostly wet with either light showers or
thunderstorms !
I don't think I can describe
yesterday as a good day, although ultimately
one plan, after some modification, worked
well. Less well was the laundry I did. I had
hoped to hang it on the line so it could start
to dry in a bit of sunshine, but I left it a
bit late for that. By the time I was ready to
hang it up to dry the sky was looking very
threatening, and I opted to dry it on a
clothes horse indoors.
It is lucky I took that route because
it wasn't all that long before the first very
heavy fall of rain. The heaviest rain only
fell of 5 or 10 minutes, and then it moderated
a bit, but only a bit for another 20 minutes.
It was followed by another 20 minutes or so of
light rain. Had my washing been out in that
rain it would have been saturated, and would
still be very wet when the next downpour came
along.
I dried my washing on a clothes horse
in the dining room with the window slightly
open. To help things along I had a fan blowing
at it. It still felt at least mild in there,
and that was good because I did some work in
there during the afternoon. It was tedious
work, but part of a very long term plan to
thin down the amount of clutter I have. In
this instance it was to scan, and store
electronically, a pile of paperwork. Some of
it was not really needed, but it still felt
like a good idea to keep it in one form or
another.
I can't say I really did anything else
yesterday except to break my intended fast. It
was lunchtime when I was washing my clothes,
and my stomach was really growling. I quieted
down with 4 rice cakes with cheese on top. A
bit later I had a small bag of mixed nuts.
Both these "snacks" were low sugar, but
unfortunately rather high in calories. I
wonder if I will ever lose the kilogram or two
I would like to before seeing the nurse on
Friday of next week.
At least my dinner was a lot safer.
Like my dinner the day before, it was
basically a sort of stew of meat and green
vegetables. The meat was diced pork this time,
and the green vegetable was broccoli. This
time I didn't thicken the gravy, or enrich it
with too many spices - some, like the harissa
paste I could have used, do contain a fair
amount of sugar. It was actually a rather thin
stew, and was not terribly satisfying. It
wasn't lone before I munched on two unadorned
Marmite flavour rice cakes.
My evening featured some TV, but I
turned off QI before it was a third of the way
through, and headed to bed. I was in bed by
9.30pm, and just reading. I was near the end
of the book, and I may have finished the book,
and fallen asleep as early as 10pm. I seemed
to sleep well for a lot of the night. It was
only when it got too cool to sleep without the
duvet that there was a small interruption to
my sleep for maybe 15 minutes as I got
comfortable under the duvet.
It was another night where I can barely
remember any of the dreams, although this
morning I do remember having dreams. I can
only remember an overview of one dream that I
had in the last couple of hours of sleep. The
significant thing (to me) is that it was
almost set in Dulwich telephone exchange. The
building was about right, but I can't recall
seeing anything of the inside of it. The major
departure from that reality was that it had a
large landscaped garden in the back. Some
people were visiting, and I remember walking
through the garden, and into the foyer of the
building to sign them in. I have no idea what
they were there for because the dream sort of
faded away at that point.
This morning feels quite chilly, but
other wise almost OK. I feel good-ish despite
a slight feeling of tenseness, and the
headache to go with it. I have no idea what
all that is about (probably cancer or covid I
suppose). What it is not is a high blood
glucose reading. Evidently some of my plan
worked because this morning my blood glucose
is down to 8.2mmol/l. If I could keep that up
for the rest of the month I would have a new
all time low monthly average.
I can't see I can get such good
readings for a whole month, but at least today
I think I deserved a bowl of instant noodles.
That is a good thing because I really wanted
something hot inside me to warm me up. There
is some sunshine coming through the window
now, and that will help take the edge off this
cool morning. I am determined not to resort to
using the heater until it is much colder, or
maybe even much, much colder. Unless the price
of electricity goes down, instead of ever
upwards, home heating is going to be a rare
luxury - if I can stand it !
There is only one thing on the agenda
today, and that is to take a walk in the park,
possibly in the middle of a thunderstorm, to
meet Angela for a lunchtime drink. That
assumes she dares to walk through possible
heavy rain to the pub. After that I will
probably have a couple of cans of hot soup,
and it will be Tesco's own Cream Of Chicken
soup - very tasty, nice and warming, and very
low sugar content. Tonight's dinner will be
similar to last night, but maybe I might make
the gravy a bit thicker, and it will be
sprouts again - which I will cook properly
this time !
