The early forecast
didn't mention that it was actually raining
this morning. Some of the rain looked to be
moderately heavy, but it is probably no more
than drizzle now. The latest revision to the
forecast says the rain will stop by
11am. The latest revision also says that
the first sunny spell will be an hour later at
2pm, and they will continue through to sunset
- which now the clocks have changed to GMT
will be at 4.37pm today. It is going to be
quite a cool day. The morning was actually
quite mild at around 15° C, but the highest
temperature may only be a degree higher.
Tomorrow may see 17° C, and it could be a
sunny day.
I predicted I would go shopping as one
of the last things I wrote yesterday morning.
I also said that on a warm sunny day I could
go out, but for unknown reasons I didn't
really fancy the idea. That pretty much
describes most of yesterday, but I did do a
couple of other things.
My shopping trip to Tesco was a fairly
pleasant experience. It was warm enough that I
didn't need a coat, and walking like that is
usually pleasant. It must have been very
slightly cooler in Tesco because it felt like
a summer's day when I left the store. When I
got home I opened nearly all the windows to
get some fresh air in the place. That included
the bathroom window, and that allowed the room
to dry out a bit. It was a bit damp in places
before that.
Although it was "naughty" I did buy one
little treat from Tesco. It was a reduced
price (about a third off I would guess) pack
of caramelised onion and cheese sausage rolls.
(Not actually sausage rolls, but sausage roll
style.) They were the first thing I ate
when I got home, and they tasted very nice.
The could have been the biggest source of
sugar that I ate yesterday. The rest of my
lunch was Marmite rice cakes with corned beef
and sliced red chillies - tasty !
After allowing a bit of time for my
lunch to go down I did a little bit of
housework. I hand washed two t-shirts, and
some underwear. I cleaned all my computer
stuff off the dining room table, and scrubbed
the PVC "wipe clean" tablecloth. It now looks
a lot better for it. I also did all the
washing up except for the beer glasses that
will be used later today. I will do them later
this morning.
All that was done in time to lay on my
bed to read, and then trying to snooze, while
the window was open, the room smelled fresh,
and the sunshine was shining straight on my
bed. It was like laying on a sunny beach (I
think I used the same expression a day or two
ago). Eventually that got a bit boring, and I
looked for other stuff to do. I didn't really
find anything I fancied doing.
I tried turning on the TV, but with all
the channels Freeview offer, there was nothing
on that took my fancy. Eventually I dug out my
hard disk with TV recording on it, and watched
about 5 episodes of Drop The Dead Donkey from
1993. I also started on what was to end up as
a lot of whisky drunk yesterday.
One of the whiskies I drank was the
whisky pictured above - Bain's whisky from
South Africa. I had forgotten what a nice
whisky it was. It has a sort of mild nutty
taste. I think I had two shot glasses of it,
and then left it alone in favour of Tesco
Special Reserve whisky that I had bought it
Tesco yesterday.
I was starting to feel a bit peckish,
but it was too early to get my planned dinner
ready. Initially I thought I might have a bowl
of instant noodles, but then opted for a
couple of cans of soup - one very low sugar,
and the other just low sugar. That might have
been as late as 5pm, or just a couple of hours
from when I tend to have dinner. When dinner
time arrived I found I didn't really want any,
although an hour or two later I did snack on
some cheese.
After I watched the last episode of
Drop The Dead Donkey from series three I went
to bed. I am not sure when that was, but I
don't think it was much after 8pm. I was
mildly drunk by then, and I thought the whisky
would act as a soporific, and get me off to
sleep nice and quickly. In fact nothing
happened, and I thrashed around for something
like an hour trying to get to sleep. I decided
to get up again and try a bit later.
It was back to my DVD of TV recordings,
and this time, for a bit of alternative
entertainment I watched an episode of
Secret
Diary Of A Call Girl. I guess it was a
bit of titillating entertainment before
bedtime, but it was all done in a very
tasteful way. The weird thing is that I didn't
find "Belle" (played by Billie Piper) very
attractive. Maybe I am just not keen on
blondes, or something silly like that.
As I tried to get to sleep I was sort
of comparing Belle to Joy Merryweather - a
character from Drop The Dead Donkey. I could
really fancy Joy despite her character being a
bit wild, or sometime grumpy. The thing is she
looks so nice. She has a lot of black hair,
wears plain jeans, and a shirt or t-shirt,
occasionally under a sweater. She is portrayed
as a bit of a goth, and it is a look I rather
like. It is odd how the one that is supposed
to have sex appeal hasn't any (well maybe a
bit now and again), and the other whose part
doesn't need any sex appeal, is actually very
sexy in my warped mind.
Once I had concluded my mental
comparisons I fell asleep very quickly. I was
very drunk by then, and I seemed to sleep
solidly until about 3.30am (GMT - so there is
a loose hour in there somewhere). I have no
idea when I fell asleep. I had given up paying
any attention to the time. My best guess was
that it might have been as late as 11pm, but
it could have been an hour earlier. I may have
got 5 hours of solid, dreamless sleep in
before I woke up. The only trouble is that it
seemed like I hardly slept at all after that,
and I got up just after 6am.
It didn't seem long before it started to
get light outside. That initially threw me
until I realised the clocks had changed to
GMT. I had quite a hangover when I got up, but
it has almost faded now. Maybe my breakfast
bowl of instant noodles helped. My blood
glucose was down to a nice 8.2mmol/l this
morning thanks to having soup for an early
dinner yesterday. Today I might have another
light dinner of grilled fish with yoghurt
based coleslaw (which I believe to be
unsweetened).
One thing that is annoying me at the moment is
a long wait for the delivery of a beer advent
calendar from Beerwulf. They sent me an email
4 days ago saying that they had booked Yodel
to deliver it. During those 4 days it hasn't
left Beerwulf's premises, and the way it is
worded on Yodel's tracking page is that they
are waiting for Beerwulf to arrange for it to
be picked up. The screenshot on the left is of
part of the email that was sent to me. When I
received the email I was looking forward to it
being delivered in time for Jodie to inspect
it today when she comes over for a Sunday
afternoon beer tasting session. That will be
today's main entertainment, although with
Jodie probably scrolling through stuff on her
phone, or playing games on it, she sometimes
has little entertainment value.
