Yesterday started with a lot of rain, and the weather forecasts only started mentioning it at 9am, or an hour or two before it stopped. Even after stopping it remained very wet outside, and only on the south side of the house could the sunny spells in the afternoon dry the road and pavement. The meagre amount of sunny spells barely raised the temperature. The morning started around 15° C, and the afternoon was just a single degree higher. This last day of October is
going to be very autumnal. The temperature by my
thermometers is only about 10° C - rather less than
the 12° C forecast. The latest revision to the
forecast says it will peak at 16° C from around
midday, and in an hour or so it will start to fall
again. The nice sunshine now will fade out at about
10am, and from 2pm rain is expected, with heavy rain
at 3pm. The rain may stop after 5pm, but might be back
at 9pm. It is rather curious that the temperature will
rise again, maybe by only a single degree, at 11pm.
Tomorrow could see some random sunny spells and some
random falls of rain. The highest tomorrow could be
just 15° C.
I felt really ill with alcoholic poisoning for a lot of yesterday. I think when I was writing yesterday morning I was still a bit drunk, and so the full force of the hangover hadn't hit me then. It wasn't until I started drinking beer with Jodie, some "hair of the dog" that I began to feel OK. It wasn't such a bad day though, and was even quite good for some of the afternoon. It is all described, along with my night, and a dream, plus thoughts this morning in my full archived page for today. |

Yesterday, the last day of British Summer Time, may have been the last warm day this year. After a damp start there was a scattering of sunny spells in the afternoon, although maybe a bit less than forecast. There was a light wind probably blowing from somewhere warmer, and with the help of a bit of sunshine, the temperature rose to 20° C, and possibly 21° C for a short time. The early forecast didn't
mention that it was actually raining this morning.
Some of the rain looked to be moderately heavy, but it
is probably no more than drizzle now. The latest
revision to the forecast says the rain will stop by
11am. The latest revision also says that the
first sunny spell will be an hour later at 2pm, and
they will continue through to sunset - which now the
clocks have changed to GMT will be at 4.37pm today. It
is going to be quite a cool day. The morning was
actually quite mild at around 15° C, but the highest
temperature may only be a degree higher. Tomorrow may
see 17° C, and it could be a sunny day.
I predicted I would go shopping as one of the last things I wrote yesterday morning. I also said that on a warm sunny day I could go out, but for unknown reasons I didn't really fancy the idea. That pretty much describes most of yesterday, but I did do a couple of other things. All that happened yesterday, last night, and this morning, is described in my full archived page for today. |

I didn't have high hopes for yesterday after the red sunrise, but it turned out better than expected. I'm not sure what time the sun broke through yesterday, but I feel sure it was before the forecast time of 1pm. I spent a lot of time in the downstairs back room yesterday, and so I didn't keep track of the sunshine, but I think there were sunny spells for most of the afternoon. The temperature rose to at least 18° C, and aided by next door's central heating warmth leaking through the walls, it felt very comfortable in the back room. Meanwhile there was almost proof that there was a lot of sunshine because my south facing bedroom warmed up to over 22° C. There was some light rain
early this morning, but the clouds seem to be breaking
up now. The latest revision to the forecast says
sunshine from 10am. It may only be sunny spells after
that, but they should continue through to sunset, It
should raise the afternoon temperature to a very nice
21° C today. Tomorrow may see some sunny spells late
in the afternoon, but generally it will be dull, and a
bit cool. Only 16° C is expected tomorrow.
Yesterday was a very different day to anything I might have expected, and it was all to do with my web server dying. The short description of yesterday is that I spent the whole day diagnosing the fault on the old server, getting a new server set up, and finally getting a spare server set up ready to use if the current one, serving this web page, fails. All this and a lot more is described in my complete archived page for today. It also includes stuff about my night and the start of this morning. |

Yesterday was another day when the weather was very acceptable - for autumn. The morning did start with rain, but the sun eventually appeared late in the morning. The afternoon featured many sunny spells, and the temperature rose to 20° C. It seemed warm enough to leave my bedroom window open all afternoon, although at the time I was mostly downstairs. There were red clouds on the
eastern horizon as the sun heaved itself over the
horizon this morning. Weather lore says that red sky
in the morning is shepherds warning. In other words it
may not be a great day. On the other hand the early
version of the weather forecast says there will be a
sunny afternoon, and an afternoon temperature of 18°
C. The latest revision hasn't changed what you can see
in the early screenshot above. Tomorrow could start
with some light rain, but it should be dry by mid
morning. Sunny spells, followed by sunshine until
sunset should start by 2pm, and also by then the
temperature could rise to a mild summer-like 21° C.
Site news: This web server kept dying overnight for the last few nights, and this morning, after a restart it only lasted for 15 minutes. I have changed the power supply brick, and I am keeping my fingers crossed ! After the trauma of the previous day, yesterday was initially not so bad, and the afternoon was good. I started writing so late yesterday that the morning seemed almost to be over by the time I had finished. At that point I still had to have a shower before I could do anything else, and "anything else" was to be a quick shopping trip to Tesco. The urge to do that faded completely after an hour or two when Michael texted me to ask if I wanted some bottles of Diet Coke while he was out in his car shopping in Tesco. The rest of my day, night, and quite a lot of this morning is described in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather was rather splendid yesterday. The rain forecast for midday and 1pm mysteriously turned out to be sunshine instead, and that meant there were few times when the sun wasn't shining through all the daylight hours. It even warmed up to 18° C. Today has got off to a poor
start. As I type this it is raining ! The forecast
makes no mention of rain - not even in the latest
revision. One change in the latest revision is a big
reduction in sunshine. There may be no sign of
the sun until 11am this morning, and unlike what is
shown in the screenshot above, the latest revision has
changed the full sunshine to just sunny spells. After
that there may only be sunny spells at 2pm and 5pm.
The rest of the day will be dull, although hopefully
not as dull as it is right now. It seems that even
without lots of supporting sunshine the temperature
should briefly reach 20° C today. Tomorrow may be a
generally dull day with an afternoon temperature of
just 18° C.
I had a good and bad time yesterday. Being woken up at 7am, after a bad night's sleep, to be told that Angela had set a marriage date for 2nd June 2023 did not improve my mood at all. Things got worse a bit later when Angela send another message to say she wouldn't be going to the pub at lunchtime because she needed to get a cut above her eye stitched up. It all should have made for a very miserable day, but somehow it didn't. The day is described in full on my complete archived page for today. As usual it included my night, and a few things this morning. |

Yesterday was not as good as hoped for. There were sunny spells, but not enough to warm my front rooms up to feel comfortable. The outside temperature reached 17° C. The clouds to the east are
tinged with red to the east where the sun has just
risen. That is not a good sign for the morning, and
sure enough there is a medium chance of light rain at
midday and 1pm. Either side of that there could be
sunny spells. It's looks like the first could be, as
forecast, at 8am. The afternoon temperature should
reach 18° C. Tomorrow could feature a bit more rain,
and a few less sunny spells, but the afternoon
temperature could rise to 19° C.
Yesterday was not a good day, although it started as if it might be one. There were two things that steered me away from one hoped for course. One was a slight volatility of my guts. It wasn't that bad as such, but it continued into the afternoon. It wasn't bad enough to stop the other thing that changed my day. That was a shopping trip to Tesco. Earlier in the morning I had forgotten that I needed a few things. Most of my day, night, and this morning have been very depressing, All is revealed, but probably makes no sense, in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday was a very nice day, and I think the reality of it was better than the weather forecast predicted. The sun was out from sunrise, and sunshine or sunny spells continued through until at least 4pm, as forecast, but possibly an hour later. The afternoon temperature was just 17° C, but in the sunshine it felt warmer. Today might be a "lite"
replay of yesterday. There is enough clear sky for the
sun to come through once it is a bit higher, and then,
fingers crossed, there could be sunshine or sunny
spells lasting into the afternoon. The latest revision
to the forecast still insists that 3pm will be dull,
and that 4pm will now only be sunny spells, but there
is a fair chance reality may be different, and better.
Once again the afternoon temperature should be 17° C.
Tomorrow should also see some sunny spells, and it
should be a tiny bit warmer at 18° C, but there is a
30% chance of rain for midday and 1pm.
The fine weather just about made it imperative that I went out to feel some sun on my face. It didn't actually start like that. The evening before yesterday I had fantasies about going out at the crack of dawn to see if I could spot where the tree had fallen on the railway line on Sunday night. I couldn't raise the enthusiasm for that, but much later in the morning, in fact a few minutes after the morning had ended, and after a quick wash, I ventured forth into the sunshine. Where I went, what pictures I took, what I did after, and how I slept during the night, is all revealed in my full archived page for today, which also includes my thoughts this morning. |

At times, yesterday was an very wet day ! There were a few claps of thunder around sunrise, but they didn't sound very local. A little bit later in the morning there was some torrential rain. By, or soon after, noon the clouds broke up, and we had several hours of sunny spells. It even felt slightly warm outside despite the temperature only reaching about 17° C. It must have been around 5 or 6pm when the sky became black again, and torrential rain fell for maybe little more than 10 or 15 minutes, but was followed by steady rain for an hour or so. From then on it was dry until about 10pm when the rain came crashing down, and seemed to go on until after midnight. Last night, in between the
heaviest showers the sky was clear enough for a
brilliant crimson sunset (picture further down the
page). Traditional weather lore said that today should
be fine and bright - and it is ! The latest revision
to the weather forecast says the first sunny spells
should start at 10am, but the sky has been blue, and
the sun shining since at least 8am. With luck there
will be sunshine or sunny spells until at least 4pm
today. All that sunshine will only raise the
temperature to 17° C. Tomorrow could be a
reasonably good day as well. It could see a lot of
sunny spells, but maybe some duller periods between
them, and once again the temperature should rise to
17° C.
Yesterday morning seemed as if it passed rather quickly, or at least it didn't seem like there was time to do anything. It was almost midday when I washed my hair, and had a shower. Once I had recovered from that I got working. When I say working I mainly mean doing a small backlog of washing up - only a day and a half's worth. The most important bit of it were the glasses for an afternoon beer tasting session with Jodie. As usual, the rest of my day, night, and the start of this morning, is described in my full archived page for today. |

I find it hard to remember what yesterday's weather was like. I think that is because it was a sort of bland day - there were no extreme events to get a handle on. I have a feeling that the temperature yesterday was more in the region of 17° C than the forecast 18° C. There was some sunshine from late morning, and I think it probably lasted long enough to take the chill off my bedroom, but the afternoon was probably dull. I have no idea what happened after darkness fell, although I was aware that the temperature did fall more than a couple of degrees. The clouds that kept the
temperature up overnight have also brought rain, and
there could be a lot of it today. We have already had
two claps of thunder, and one was near enough to be
preceded by a flash of lighting that could be seen
through the curtains. For all that there has been only
one short period of heavy rain, and probably some
drizzle. The early version of the weather forecast has
seen those jolly forecasters throw everything into the
pot. The latest forecast settles down a bit. 10 and
11am use that weird weather symbol of heavy rain
pouring from a white cloud with the sun peeping out
the side. Hail is not mentioned in the latest
revision. The serious weather may start at 4pm for 3
hours when dark clouds with thunderbolts shooting out
of them are shown. The rain will continue,
sometime light, and sometimes heavy until 11pm when
hail appears on the forecast again. The early
afternoon could see the temperature rise to 18°
C. There is another yellow warning for
thunderstorms tomorrow, but the forecast shows mainly
sunny spells through the day with a maximum
temperature of just 16° C.
This morning I am finding out why I put the keyboard I am using into the back of a dark and dusty cupboard. It looks almost brand new, but it has an annoying property. The keys are hard to push, and some need a very hard push. The Control key has a habit of sticking - which can have some annoying consequences. You'll have to excuse me if some words lack a letter. The spell checker should catch most of them, but..... Anyway, back to yesterday. I can't fully blame the weather for another rather boring, unproductive day yesterday. Although it took a little while to arrive, there was some nice sunshine by, or maybe even before mid morning. It could have enthused me to do something, but it seems it didn't. I think I only did one productive thing yesterday. You can read about that, and other stuff I did and didn't do in my complete archived page for today. It includes some stuff about sleep and dreams, plus the start of this morning. |

Yesterday was not as bad as it could have been. Some bits were nice, and some bits horrible. The morning was generally bright, but I don't recall any actual sunshine. I think it was a bit before midday when I went out. Whenever that was it was when some very light rain started to fall. I think it had stopped by the time I had walked to Tesco, about 6 minutes walk away. Later on, after getting home again there was a short, but slightly heavy fall of rain. Not long after there was an hour or two of warm sunny spells. Rain was forecast to start again at 6pm, but I can't seem to remember if did then, or not, but I did see some rain a bit later. The temperature probably reached the forecast 18° C, and I suppose I would grudgingly agree it was a mild day. The sun is doing it's best
to shine, but the sky is rather cloudy. The latest
revision to the forecast says 9am, or about 10 minutes
time, should feature full sunshine. I can't see that
happening with all the clouds I can see piled up
across the sky. Actually it does depend on where you
look. There is a fair amount of blue to be seen
overhead, but to the east, where the sun is, it looks
quite grey. The latest revision to the forecast does
not show many differences to that in the screenshot
above. The most notable change is 3pm is now shown as
dark clouds like 4pm. A more minor change is only two
hours at 18° C are shown at 2 and 3pm. The beginning
and end of tomorrow are currently predicted to be very
wet, and with even a single thunderbolt thrown in for
6pm (The BBC forecast predicts many more thunderbolts
!). The middle of the day should/could be dry and
bright, but not actually sunny. Tomorrow afternoon may
only reach 17° C.
Yesterday was a day of two different halves. The morning seemed OK. It felt good to go out to buys stuff from Tesco, but soon after getting home my mood changed in a negative direction. It could have been triggered by a short period of rain, or maybe it was just because it was cold in my bedroom - that is to say it felt chilly when being very sedate. For a little while there was some warm sunshine coming through my bedroom windows. Maybe that relaxed me when I shouldn't have been relaxed. Although not much happened yesterday, I seemed to have used awful lot of words to describe it, plus lots more words to describe a couple of dreams. You can read all these words in my full archived page for today. |

Yesterday started off pretty awful. There were several heavy downpours in among just general drizzle. One big surprise was that in the early afternoon the clouds broke up and we had some long sunny spells until an hour or so before sunset when it became dull and grey again, although not raining. The afternoon temperature reached 16° C, and somehow that didn't feel too bad - maybe it was warmer than 16° C. Today is one of those days
when the weather is in a state of flux. Every revision
to the forecast shuffles the features around. The
latest revision says it will be sunny in half an hour
(that is very unlikely) and that what was shown as
light rain at midday will now be very heavy rain. It
might be followed by a couple of hours of sunny spells
before rain starts to fall again from about 6pm. Some
of that rain could be heavy rain. If the BBC weather
forecast is right there could be thundery showers
today. Both forecasts agree it will be 18° C. Tomorrow
may also reach 18° C, but it should be a dry day. It
will be mostly cloudy, but maybe there might be an
hour or to in the morning that feature some sunshine.
Yesterday was a mildly good day. I probably can't describe the morning as boring because by the time I had finished writing about the day before, showing some of the pictures I took, and then having a shower, it was almost midday. It was one of those mornings where I just don't know where the time went. My afternoon is better accounted for, and it, along with my night, and the start of this morning is described in my complete archives page for today. |

Yesterday far exceeded the expectations of the weather forecast. Maybe 11am was a bit cloudy, but it seemed like sunny spells ruled the rest of the daylight hours. I don't recall checking, but I think it was warmer than the predicted 15° C. I have no idea if the very late night rain shown in the forecast fell - I was sound asleep by then ! There is plenty of evidence
of overnight rain this morning, and the rain is going
to continue for some time yet. The BBC give a very
simplified view of today's rain. They say non stop
light rain until 1pm, and then just cloudy for the
rest of the day. The Met Office first showed a
complicated pattern of rain, including hail at 2pm,
but the latest revision does away with the hail, and
simplifies things a bit.....or did ! In the very
latest revision the hail is back at midday. Before and
just after that there will be heavy rain. At 2pm the
heavy rain will change to light rain, and by 3pm it
should be dry, but cloudy for the rest of the day. The
temperature now, almost 16° C, but possible still
rising a bit, is the highest today, and from sunset
(not that we will probably see the sun today) it will
drop down to about 13° C. Tomorrow could be 18° C, and
there is a small chance of a sunny spell, but mostly
it will be a wet day. The BBC even offers the chance
of a thunderstorm !
I think I can describe yesterday as a very good day ! All the sunshine helped a lot to make it good, but there more important other things too. I managed to get off to an early start, and it wasn't very late in the morning when I had showered and shaved, before stepping out to get some important shopping. I seem to have written a lot about yesterday, last night, and this morning, plus included half a dozen pictures in my full archived page for today. |

Yesterday was a very nice day. The forecast for fog in the morning turned out to be complete nonsense. Clear skies meant that it was only 8° C in the morning, and that the sun could shine as soon as it came over the horizon. The sun seemed to be out for most of the hours of daylight, although it was getting quite cloudy an hour or two before sunset. All that sun only managed to warm up outdoors to just 17° C, but the greenhouse effect of the sun coming through my front windows warmed my front rooms up to better than shirts sleeves warmth. It was a mild morning thanks
to all the clouds, and from what I can see of the sky
it seems unlikely that the forecast for full sunshine
at 8am is very, very optimistic. The latest revision
to the forecast tells pretty much the same story as
the screenshot above. The main featured will be sunny
spells either side of 4 hours of dullness in the
middle of the day. It should stay dry until late
tonight, but with an afternoon temperature of just 15°
C it is going to feel quite cool. The BBC weather
forecast tells a different story - a maximum of 17° C,
but no sunshine at all, and light rain starting as
early as 4pm and continuing into the night. They even
predict a thunderstorm at 2am tomorrow ! Tomorrow may
be dull, 16° C, and with rain in the middle of the
day.
Yesterday was quite a good day, and I can probably thank the warm bright sunshine for a lot of it. However the day didn't go in any expected direction. I think it took me longer to finish writing here than expected, but maybe not by much. It was still enough to add to a series of cumulative delays. Another slight delay was when I decided I just had to wash my hair as well as having a full shower. I probably should have had a shave too, but I'll probably do that today. The rest of my day, which featured some good news, plus my night, which was also good, and finally some good news this morning, is all described in my complete archive page for today. |

After a rainy start the weather improved yesterday, but it didn't improve as much as hoped for. There were some long periods of sunshine until about midday, but the sunshine got really patchy after that. There were a few hours in the afternoon when it was still bright, but not a single ray of sunshine could be seen. It meant my front rooms didn't warm up as hoped, and I think the outside temperature struggled to reach the forecast 18° C. I think the highest I noticed was more like 17.5° C - which I suppose rounds up to 18° C. There sky was clear enough for a nice red sunset last night. I reckon it was only just 8°
C at 7am, and that the closest to fog was just a
slight haze in the air. The sun is now just
peeping over the houses to the east, and it is
blindingly bright. It is looking more like yesterday
afternoon's forecast for today - sunshine from dawn to
dusk. The latest revision to the forecast now says
that the sunshine will continue until sunset, but that
the last hour may only be sunny spells. The afternoon
temperature will be similar to what I saw yesterday -
17° C. Tomorrow may be a little cooler at 16° C, and
there may only be a few occasional sunny spells in the
afternoon. Rain could start in the evening.
Yesterday was one of those days where I still had a lot of free time on my hands, and when I experienced several boring hours, but on the whole it was generally satisfying. One of the first things I did was to finish the laundry I had started the previous day. It is something I seem to do far too often lately - putting stuff in to soak in detergent, and then losing the enthusiasm to finish the job until the next day. The next things was to go shopping to Aldi. You can read about that, and the rest of my day, night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather yesterday was an improvement on the weather the day before. There was some sunshine in the morning followed by sunny spells. They were supposed to end at 2pm, and maybe they did, but the rest of the afternoon was still bright even if not actually sunny. I think the temperature just about reached the forecast 17° C. It felt mild outside, but indoors still felt chilly. Rain was forecast for 7pm, but it started just as Jodie was walking to the station to get the 6.25pm train. The rains seemed to continue through the night, and it was still raining this morning. I think the rain may have
stopped a little bit earlier than 8am as seen in the
screenshot above. It has certainly been a soggy
morning, but also a mild morning (and it was mild last
night). The latest revision to the forecast says full
sunshine, non stop, from 11am until sunset. That
should drive the temperature up to 19° this
afternoon, and the sunshine should warm my front rooms
up even higher). Tomorrow could be very similar, but
clear skies overnight will allow the temperature to
drop a lot lower in the night, and the day may only
warm up to 17° C.
This morning follows a day where more seemed to happen in the night than during the day. The only thing I did yesterday morning was some basic housework to make the kitchen and dining room seem a bit nicer for the afternoon drinking session. It was a bit more of an intensive job that usual because as well as doing the washing up, including the glasses, I took out two bags to the recycling bin, and two bags to the non-recycling bin. The rest of my day, my bad night sleep, and my thoughts this morning are all described in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather forecast from both The Met Office, and the BBC, got off to a good start, but ended up hopelessly wrong yesterday afternoon. The morning was, as forecast, bright and sunny. The sunshine and sunny spells were then supposed to continue on for the rest of the afternoon. The first potential warning sign was when the Met Office changed two hours in the middle of the afternoon from sunny spells to dark clouds. At some point the Met Office did show light rain at 2pm, but by then many would have made their plans for the day. The reality was that as midday approached the clouds seemed to thicken, and not long after midday there was a light shower. Rain, usually fairly light, but occasionally moderately heavy fell for the rest of the afternoon except for one brief sunny spell around 3pm. The clouds did thin, and the rain stopped for the last couple of hours of daylight. With no extended periods of sunshine it stayed cold in my front rooms, and the outside temperature struggled to reach the forecast 16° C. Thanks to the clouds this
morning started off fairly mild, although the
consensus of my outside thermometers reckon it was
closer to 11° C than the forecast 12° C. It would seem
we are heading into the same scenario as yesterday.
The latest revision to the forecast shows the last
sunny spells to now be at 2pm, and 1pm might see no
sunshine. The rain is now expected as early as 7pm,
and I would not be surprised if another revision moved
it another hour earlier. The afternoon temperature
should still reach 17° C. Tomorrow morning will start
with rain, but it might be over soon after sunrise.
From late morning until sunset there could be sunny
spells, although the experience with the yesterday's
forecast suggests it will probably turn to snow or
something. It is possible that tomorrow could see the
afternoon temperature reach 18° C.
Yesterday was not very productive, but a lot more productive than the previous day, and probably the day before that. The most satisfying achievement yesterday was looking after my blood glucose level. I didn't completely fast, as originally intended, but I did eat very carefully, and the final result was good enough. The rest of my day, night, and this morning is all described in my full archived page for today. |

Yesterday's weather was rather miserable. It was cold and dull. The only good thing I can think of was that the rain predicted for mid afternoon was very light, and very brief. I seem to recall a couple of very brief, as in mere seconds, of sunny spells, but the other 99% of the day was just very dull. The afternoon temperature reached 15° C, but with no supporting sunshine it felt cold. There are two things wrong
in this weather forecast. First of all it was barely
9° C at 7am, and even my most optimistic outside
thermometer says it still hasn't quite reached 10° C.
The other thing is that a mostly clear sky, probably
responsible for the lower temperature, has allowed to
sun to start shining almost as soon as it had risen.
The latest revision to the forecast still says the
temperature will have risen by 2° in the next 20
minutes ! It has also changed 2 and 3pm to show light
rain. By contrast, the BBC weather forecast shows
sunny spells all day - no more, and no less. It also
says the afternoon temperature will be 17° C - a
degree higher than the Met Office. Fingers crossed
that the BBC are right today ! Tomorrow it is the
other way round. The BBC says sunny spells in the
morning, and rain from mid afternoon. The Met Office
is predicting a day of non stop sunshine tomorrow.
Both agree it will probably be 17° C.
The miserable weather made me feel miserable yesterday. If the dull light wasn't depressing enough, feeling cold just made it worse. The temperature in my bedroom, where I spent most of the day, was cool enough to make everything I touched feel cold. Considering that I did little more than eat yesterday, I seem to have written a lot about the day, my dreams last night, and the start of this morning in my full archived page for today. |

There was very little wind yesterday, and that made the rather poor 16° C feel fairly mild - which was OK is you were outside not being sedate. On the other hand, with a lot less sunshine than hoped for, it felt quite cool, or even cold indoors when quietly relaxing. The problem was that lack of sunshine. A few sunny spells tried to raise the temperature in my front, south facing, rooms, but there just wasn't enough sunshine to make much difference. The best of the sunshine, albeit in sunny spells, was late in the afternoon when the sun had moved to far around to shine into those front rooms. It did look sort of cheerful though. A thick-ish layer of cloud
kept some of the warmth in overnight, and this morning
started at 11° C (and closer to 12° C on some of my
outdoor thermometers). It is possible the temperature
may reach 16° C today, but only for a single hour, and
15° C is more representative of the day. We almost had
a few watery rays of sunshine for all of 10 seconds
earlier, but even the latest revision to the forecast
shows no hope of any sunny spells today. That latest
revision affirms the earlier forecast of a couple of
hours of light rain at 3 and 4pm. Interestingly
enough, the BBC forecast agrees completely with the
Met Office forecast (as in the screenshot above)
except for 3 and 4pm. It shows black clouds, but only
a 11 and 13% chance of rain. Tomorrow should show a
return to sunshine until early evening when it looks
as if it will rain. The temperature could be 16 or
even 17° C tomorrow.
I think yesterday could be described overall as a good day, but one with a few bad moments. I didn't feel all that good at the start of yesterday. It was nothing in particular, but cumulatively it made me wonder if I was going down with something, or even had something, where "something" might possibly be Covid. On the other hand it was probably more like my special type of hay fever - a probably allergy to fungal spores from the assorted fungi which pop up during autumn. The rest of yesterday, last night, and this morning is described in my complete archived page for today. |

The weather forecast, and all the early revisions of it, was totally untrustworthy yesterday. To put that another way, reality didn't match what the forecast said. The most significant thing is that there were far more sunny spells than forecast, and they started mid morning, and maybe every hour until mid afternoon featured at least one sunny spell. One thing that didn't appear in any forecast I saw was what was probably just a passing shower sometime after mid afternoon. I didn't see it fall because I was snoozing, but I noted that the road and pavement outside looked wet. At 16° C it was not a warm day, except in sunshine, and there didn't seem to be enough intensive sunshine in the afternoon to warm my front rooms up. There is always a gap in the
forecasts unless you go specially looking for it. It
is the period between, of just before, midnight, and
6am. During that time there were some heavy falls of
rain. It seems to be brightening up now, and it is
possible a little diamond bright chink in the clouds
could let through a brief sunny spell any time now. It
is almost as if they have regurgitated yesterday's
forecast - just a few sunny spells moving to different
hours, or even disappearing off the chart. Hopefully
today will actually be similar or better than
yesterday which had more sunny spells than appeared in
any version of the forecast I saw. The
prediction of 16° C has survived several revisions,
and it seems safe to assume it will be correct.
Tomorrow will be a murky day with a temperature if
either 16° C, or possibly 17° C if the BBC forecast
turns out to be more accurate. The Met Office predict
quite a few showers tomorrow, by the BBC say it will
stay dry.
Yesterday had it's good points, but ultimately I found it depressing. I was very slothful during a lot of the morning, but the start of the sunny spells speeded me up. Maybe I am cold blooded, and my thermometer tells lies ! I didn't have a special shave, shampoo, and shower like I usually do on a Wednesday morning, but just stuck to having a shower before I was ready to go out. I had a generally pleasant, but short outing yesterday, and it, along with other stuff I did yesterday, last night, and this morning can be read about in my complete archived page for today. |

It was nice and bright yesterday, although all the sunshine only raised the outside temperature to 14° C. It was different indoors, but only in my front, south facing rooms. For several hours in the afternoon my bedroom reached almost 23° C as the sunshine poured through the windows. Sadly it seemed to cool down quite quickly once the sun moved around too far. It is a cold morning. At
about 5am the temperature was almost as low as 6° C,
but as I write this it is almost 9° C. There have been
two revisions to the forecast since I took the
screenshot above. The first took away most of the few
sunny spells seen above, but the last one replaced
one. Currently it says that there will be sunny spells
at 1pm and 3pm. The afternoon temperature if 16° C
hasn't changed. It should be 2° warmer than yesterday,
but without any sunshine it will probably feel a lot
chillier. It should be a lot warmer night with the
temperature only dropping to 13° C just before
sunrise. The afternoon temperature could reach 16° C
again tomorrow, but it seems the chance of any
sunshine to make it feel warmer is close to zero.
Tomorrow evening, like late tonight, could see some
light rain.
I could say I had a very lazy day yesterday, but that would only be true of some of the day. I finished yesterday by saying I probably ought to do something, but that I didn't really fancy going out. I did have a shower so I could have gone out, but in the end I started something that would take up a lot of time, and produce very little. It was more transferring ancient analogue camcorder footage to digital files. You can read why it took so long, and why it is doubtful it was worth it, in my full archive page for today. It also includes some words about the rest of the day, plus the night, and the start of this morning. |

After a very wet, and very dull and gloomy morning, the sun finally broke through almost on time. The forecast said it would happen at 11am. The outdoor temperature rose to 16° C, while the temperature in my front rooms was raised to over 22° C by the sun through the windows. A clear sky last night meant
that this morning has started of very chilly. By my
reckoning the temperature at 7am was as low as 6° C,
and one external thermometer that has always seemed
fairly accurate was saying 4.7° C ! A nice sunny day
should warm things up to 14° C today, and that seems
like it will still feel chilly unless there is very
little wind, and you are standing in direct sunshine.
Hopefully the sunshine through the front windows will
raise my front rooms temperature up to 22° C or more
by this afternoon. Tomorrow could see 17° C, but there
will be hardly any sunshine according to The Met
Office. The BBC say there will be sunny spells in the
middle of the day, and the temperature could rise to
18° C.
Yesterday was a day that took a whole new path as a result of receiving a text message. The message was from Angela to say she was feeling very unwell, and had been (presumably) diagnosed as having Covid. I was hoping a bit more information might be forthcoming, stuff like if she actually been checked with a Covid test kit. I assumed she was at home, and not in hospital, but that was another piece of information I lacked. The rest of my ruminations on the subject, plus a description of the rest of my day, night and this morning, can be read in my full archive page for today. |

It was nice and sunny yesterday, and felt warmer than the 17° C that was forecast....but maybe not much warmer, perhaps 18° C. The last of the sunny spells were a bit later than the forecast 4pm. During early evening the cloud thickened up enough to keep some of the warmth in, and so it was a mild night. All the thick cloud that
built up last night has resulted in a very horrible
wet morning. I have no idea when it started raining,
but I think I heard some rain at 5am when I got up for
a pee. Both forecasters agree that from mid to late
morning the sun will start burst through - first with
some sunny spells, and then full sunshine until the
end of the afternoon. All that sunshine is only
expected to raise the temperature to 16° C. The clear
skies will mean a very cold morning tomorrow, possibly
less than 6° C. Despite being a very sunny day, the
afternoon temperature may only rise to 14 or 15° C.

The air was generally rather cool yesterday, just 16° C, but there was a lot of warm sunshine. The biggest effect of that was to get my front, south facing rooms feeling nice and warm. My bedroom in particular was deliciously warm by sunset. Of course there was a price to pay for clear skies last night. Despite both the BBC and Met
Office (screenshot above) forecasts saying it would be
9° C at 8am, I reckon it was barely 6° C. One of my
neighbours garden sheds even looked like it had frost
on it, but maybe it was just heavy dew. There is
strong sunshine as I type this, and the thin shaft of
sunshine that is now entering my room feels very warm
on my back, but my thermometers still say the
temperature is no more than 7° C outside. The
first revision of the Met Office forecast has now
extended the sunny spells to 4pm while the BBC
forecast says either sunshine or sunny spells should
last until sunset. For all that, the outside
temperature is not expected to rise higher than 17° C.
Tomorrow may start with rain, but sunshine should
follow it. The thick rain bearing cloud should keep
the temperature up during the night, and the morning
could start at 12° C, but the sunshine will only raise
it to a chilly 15° C.

There were random periods of sunny spells yesterday, and I think most of the day, if not all the day, was dry, but there was not enough strong sunshine to warm the front of my house. It felt quite chilly in my front rooms even though the outside air temperature was the same 18° C as the last few days. Clear skies meant this
morning started off very chilly. At 6am it was barely
8° C, and despite almost non stop sunshine (a fact
agreed on by both the Met Office and BBC) the
temperature is only forecast to rise to 16° C. It may
be quite cool outside, but I am sure I can feel the
sunshine warming my bedroom as I sit here typing
(although it could just be the spicy noodles, with
added chilli sauce for breakfast that is warming me
up). Tomorrow should be a degree warmer than today.
The morning could be very sunny, and from mid
afternoon some cloud will reduce it to sunny spells.

Yesterday was another day with a lot of sunshine, or sunny spells. It warmed my front rooms up enough to allow me to open a few windows to air the rooms a bit. There was less wind than the day before, and that helped the 18° C in the afternoon to feel very mild. At some time in the night,
possibly just before sunrise, some rain fell. It is
possible there may have even been some very fine rain
later than that. It is still very cloudy now, but the
sun is trying to break through the cloud. We just had
a 3 second burst of weak sunshine. There should be
more to come, but the latest revision to the forecast
has added showers at 2pm, but that seems to be instead
of the shower shown in the screenshot above at 4pm.
The heavy rain at 7pm seems like it might be a bit
more definite. Once again the afternoon high will be
18° C. Both the BBC and Met Office agree that tomorrow
will be a very sunny day, but also a cooler day with
no more than 16° C expected.

It was surprisingly warm yesterday. Until the rain started just before 3pm, the temperature rose to a few tenths of a degree short of 20° C. It was a little spoiled by quite a strong wind. Neither forecaster I check (The BBC and The Met Office) got their forecast for the rain right. The reality was that there was maybe 10 minutes of light rain followed by 10 minutes of sometimes very heavy rain. Then it just stopped and the rest of the day was a bit cooler, still dull, but drying out. In the last hour before sunset the skies cleared, and we had some very low on the horizon sunshine for a while. Now there's a first ! The
BBC and Met Office have produced near as dammit
identical forecasts. Basically it will be sunny all
day, although some hours may only feature sunny
spells. In the latest revision the single gap at 3pm
shown in the screenshot above has been filled in with
sunny spells. For all that sunshine, only 18° C is
expected today. Tomorrow should start off with at
least sunny spells, but maybe some sunshine too. The
afternoon will probably end up wet. The temperature
will probably be the same as today.

I don't think I can think of anything positive to say about yesterday's weather. It was generally dull, and occasionally very dull. However there was one or two short sunny spells. Surprisingly enough, the temperature still climbed to 18° C. The weather forecast has
only changed a little in the latest revision to it.
10am is now shown as sunny spells, although the first
ones are actually happening now. It still shows a very
high chance of heavy rain in the early afternoon.
Curiously enough, the BBC weather forecast shows a
moderately low prediction for light rain with a
starting time of 3pm - when the Met Office say the
rain will end. The Met Office is a bit more generous
with late afternoon sunshine and sunny spells, 5pm may
feature sunny spells, and the last half hour of
daylight may feature full sunshine (although the sun
will be so low on the horizon that it will not be that
useful). The maximum temperature today is predicted to
be 18° C again, but it will be in the late morning.
The afternoon may only be 16° C. Tomorrow should be
bright and sunny, but once again the highest
temperature may only be 18° C.

Yesterday was not as good as the day before, but it wasn't bad. There were sunny spells in between duller periods, and it was dry all day. The temperature reached between 18 and 19° C. There was a very pink sunset
last night, and I expected today to be rather better
than in the forecast in the screenshot above. The
latest revision has swapped a few dark clouds for
lighter coloured clouds, but apart from a
possible single hour of sunny spells, it would seem it
is going to be a dull day.....but maybe anything is
possible. In the latest revision to the forecast the
sunny spells have been moved from 10am to midday. If
nothing else it proves that the forecasters are really
only guessing, and reality could yet throw up a few
surprises. The temperature forecast is generally
correct, and it still shows 18° C, or similar to
yesterday. The temperature tomorrow should be similar
to today, and it will be another duller day, but with
one big difference - rain later in the afternoon.

Yesterday was another good day. There were more sunny spells than the Met Office predicted, but maybe the BBC weather forecast came close to reality. The afternoon seemed to hit almost 20° C for a while, and all the sunshine warmed up my front rooms again to a comfortable temperature. Like yesterday, the BBC
weather forecast is far more generous of it's sunny
spells than the Met Office. Their latest revision now
shows sunny spells from 9am to 1pm, and then at 6pm.
The only fly in the ointment is that the clouds seem
to thick to let any sunshine through for several
hours. Curiously enough, this is what the BBC forecast
now says - the first sunny spells at 11am, and then
continuing until sunset. Another reason for hoping the
BBC may be right today is that predict an afternoon
high of 19° C. The Met Office says 18° C. Tomorrow
could start several degrees less cold than this
morning, maybe around 15° C, but may only rise to 18°
C. Both forecasters currently agree that tomorrow is
going to be dull all day, but like today, it should
stay dry.

Compared to recent weather, yesterday was very good. There was sunshine or sunny spells almost all day. The afternoon temperature rose to a reasonable 19° C, and my front rooms were warmed up nicely with the sun pouring in the windows. It's a horrible damp looking
grey morning, but both the Met Office and BBC agree
that the sun will break through at midday. The sunny
spells for 10am have disappeared from the latest
revision to the Met Office forecast. The Met Office
and BBC now say that the sunny spells will last from
midday until 6pm, and the BBC say they last 2 hours
will feature full sunshine, and not sunny spells. For
all that we can't expect more than 18° C today. There
is a difference of opinion about tomorrows weather.
The Met Office predict an all dull day with a top
temperature of 18° C. The BBC predict a bright days
with sunny spells, and 19° C. You can be sure that
both forecasts will be very different tomorrow morning

The last day of September was good and bad. There were sunny spells in the morning, and heavy rain in the evening. In the middle it was generally light grey, although I think the sun may have managed a few brief appearances in the early afternoon. At 16° C it was not the coolest day we have had recently, but it was cool enough. It's looking like today
could be rather nice - at least compared to recent
weather. The latest revision to the forecast only
shows a one hour gap to the sunny spells at 5pm, and
many of hours today will feature full sunshine. That
should warm my front rooms up nicely, and also warm up
the great outdoors to as 18° C, but sadly not to the
19° C shown for 4pm in the screenshot above - which
seems odd because 4pm is shown as cloudy in the
screenshot above, but is now shown as sunny spells.
Tomorrow is back to the misery of just 16° C, and a
dull and wet morning, but later in the afternoon the
sky should clear enough for sunny spells until sunset.
Of course the forecast for tomorrow will probably
change beyond all recognition in the next 24 hours.
Yesterday was a good and bad day. The morning, featuring some nice sunshine, was good, and from 4pm, when the rain started, it was bad. Incidently, it seemed to be a rare time when the forecast for rain going its starting time close to the minute. The first drops of admittedly very, very light rain, fall almost at exactly 4pm. It was another hour or two before it really started to rain heavily. It maybe wasn't "torrential", but it got everything very wet, very fast ! The whole of yesterday, plus my night and this morning, including my 'flu jab is described in my complete archived page for today. |
