It is indeed bright
and sunny as I write this, but the latest
revision to the forecast says that we will
lose any sunshine or sunny spells at 11am now.
With only light clouds it may still stay
bright, and now there may be sunny spells at
3pm, but not at 6pm as shown above. Once again
the temperature will only rise to a
disappointing 11° C (I think we ought to be
seeing at least a few days at 20° C now). With
no sunshine it will feel close to cold, and
certainly not warm. Tomorrow is currently
shown as dry even though much of the day will
feature heavy dark grey clouds. It will be an
even colder day with no more than 10° C
expected.
It seems that these days whenever
I do anything that could be called exercise
(even if just a bit of walking to and from
railway stations) I need the next day to
recover from it. Well that was I expected, but
I didn't put it to the test yesterday. I had
planned a walk to the pharmacy as a bare
minimum, but on my third attempt I got through
to them, and ordered my next repeat
prescription to be ready for picking up on
Thursday.
With one reason to go out not needed I
didn't bother to take a shower, and because of
that I didn't bother going out anywhere else.
I would have like to get some shopping in
Tesco. The previous time I went I concentrated
on my immediate needs, but another shopping
trip to stock up on some stuff to put in the
freezer, or cupboard for longer life food
would be useful. I may do it today.
It is possibly a good idea that I
didn't go to Tesco yesterday because I felt
very hungry through a lot of yesterday. Much
of it could be blamed on boredom, and I was in
the sort of mood where I may have thrown
caution to the wind, and eat anything that
satisfied my need for food excitement. One
thing that I did eat gave me later regrets was
a small plate of oven chips. Having finished
that bag, another bag in the fridge would be
good for future times when I feel desperate
for a nibble.
The most useful thing I did all day was
to notice a smell like old tom cats piddle,
and trace it's source. I knew straight away
that it was actually the typical smell of an
overheating mains plug, and I homed in on the
plug for my fan heater. It was indeed very
hot, and quite smelly. It would have take a
lot for it to catch fire because the shell of
the plug does not easily burn, and I was more
worried about it damaging the wall socket
because changing that would be a lot of fuss.
This was the plug, and I have circled
the worst areas of burning. I believe the
problem was a poor contact between the fuse
and the fuse holder at one end. It is possible
that the fuse itself could have been at fault.
I threw it away just in case it was faulty. It
was handy that I had a spare mains plug, of a
more reliable make than some cheap Chinese
plug as used on the Chinese fan heater. The
"new" mains plug I used was on the Sony
camcorder battery charger that I recently cut
off so I could extend the mains lead from 6
inches to a full yard. I have fitted a low
current, 2 amp, fuse in the burnt plug because
it would be still safe to use for something
small that doesn't consume much power.
I spent quite a lot of the morning, and
a few hours in the afternoon doing little more
than reading, but I got fed up with that. I
didn't think I was in the right mood for it,
but late in the afternoon I started to watch
the first of 2 episodes of Star Trek: Picard
(episodes 3 and 4 of series 2). It wasn't long
before I was fully into it. I still have mixed
feeling about it. I feel the special effects
are well over done, and that each episode is
two long.
I guess it probably only works as a
serial, but that does mean every episode needs
loads of padding that would not be needed if
it was written as a TV series instead of a
sort of movie series. It is like everything
Hollywood touches - it becomes bloated and
made for spectacle instead of story. One
interesting fact I heard recently is that one
of the greatest films of all time, Hitchcock's
"
Psycho"
was made using a TV crew when the big
Hollywood studios didn't think it was
interesting enough to pay for it's production.
The ending of the second "Picard"
episode I watched slightly overlapped onto the
usual 3 hours of Star Treks I usually try and
watch. In fact I didn't watch them that much
because I knew the stories too well, and spent
some time on the internet with the TV on in
the background. It was about 7pm when I had my
dinner. It was almost the same as the previous
night's dinner - stewed chicken with shredded
cabbage and leek.
It was some time before dinner, while I
was looking at the internet, that I saw
someone was drinking a bottle of Perla
"Miodowa" (honey) beer. It reminded me that I
had a couple of cans of this beer in my now
fast dwindling stash of Polish beers that I
stocked up on before Brexit made these beers
fairly rare. I was a bit concerned that the
sweet, honey tasting beer would not be good
for my blood glucose level, but it seems it
was fine, as were the other two cans of strong
Polish beer I drank last night.
After the last Star Trek episode
finished there didn't seem to be anything
worth watch on TV, and I was in bed slightly
before 9pm, and fast asleep soon after 9pm (at
least I think I was). Maybe I should blame to
bad sleep I had the night before because last
night I seemed to sleep very well - not
perfectly though. I seemed to wake up to pee 3
or even 4 times with as little as an hour
between them in the last half of the night. I
think every time I tried to get to sleep, or
back to sleep, it seemed like I was going to
suffer form insomnia again, but before I could
say "sod it" I was asleep.
I am pretty sure I had some interesting
dreams, and that something I had watched, Star
Trek: The Original Series, The Next
Generation, Enterprise, or Picard had
influenced my dreams, but I have no idea what
it all was now. All I can remember is a
vague idea that the dream(s) was/were very
enjoyable. It is a shame that such enjoyment
can just fade into nothing when you wake up.
First it was the small plate of chips,
maybe some nibbles I had, and then the honey
beer that gave me no confidence I would have a
fair blood glucose reading this morning. I was
very happy to see it not just fair, but very
good ! This morning I hit my imaginary target
of 7.5mmol/l. That is on the upper end of what
would be considered normal for a non diabetic.
The odd thing is that yesterday was one of
those days when I didn't really make any
effort to achieve it. On the contrary, I was
feeling under the weather, and I could easily
have eaten very bad things for me if I thought
they would be exciting.
I guess this morning I feel pretty
average, although that could also be
"untested". I haven't done anything to say
whether I am good, or not. I intend to go to
Tesco this morning, preferably before the
sunny spells finish for the day. That will be
a good test of how good or bad I actually am.
Another thing I expect I'll be doing today is
to hand wash a couple of small towels. Other
than that I will possibly do very little...I
was going to say that I doubt I'll be going
out, but maybe now it is a tiny possibility.
I've just checked the latest revision to the
weather forecast. The sunny spells for midday
have now been re-instated, and with white
cloud forecast for the rest of the afternoon
it may not be
too bad out there, but
then again there is the temperature to
consider. 11° C is not very enticing, and it
may not reach that until mid afternoon.
