Much of yesterday didn't really follow any revision of the weather forecast, although having said that, there were only a few things sufficiently different to be important.I can't recall the predicted sunny spells for 9am happening. Several revisions of the forecast said it would start to rain at midday. Even the BBC forecast agreed with that, but in reality that was when we had the first sunny spells. Unfortunately they were brief, and there were not many of them. It did eventually rain, maybe just after 1pm, but it was light rain, and all over in a few minutes. Not enough rain fell to make the road outside look even damp. The forecast for sunny spells at the start of the evening turned out to be right, and the temperature reaching 17° C was right, although maybe it really went a degree or two higher.
     mostly dull
                                  but dry
The latest revision to the forecast has changed 1pm to dark clouds, and 3pm to sunny spells. Other than that, it is still the same as the screenshot above. It should stay dry, and the temperature will only rise to 14° C. Oddly enough, this is almost exactly as forecast yesterday. It is strange for the forecasters to get anything right more then 30 minutes in advance. I hope they have come closer to the truth for tomorrow. For several days now the BBC has been saying tomorrow will be a bright and sunny day. The Met Office said it would be dull, but now they say lots of sunny spells. Maybe by tomorrow they will say full sunshine, and maybe they will be right, but I am not terribly optimistic.

I was not in a happy mood yesterday. I think it was because I finally realised that yesterday was a bank holiday, and they can be more miserable than Sunday's.  For some strange reason we seemed to have a normal weekday train service, and if it was warm and sunny, instead of dull with the potential for rain, I might have gone out, but I didn't like the weather, and I just could not be bothered.
grey and cloudy
I took this picture just after the un-forecast sunny spells at midday, and just before we had the lightest sprinkling of rain possible. It was horribly dull out, and some of those clouds really looked like they could drop the heavy rain forecast.
display for 4 thermometers
Before moving on from the weather I have to mention that one of my beliefs was more or less confirmed last night. Pictured on the left is the display for one of my sets of thermometers. The bottom figure, 23.6° C was the temperature in my bedroom as I was getting ready to write this with the heater running on low.

The three temperature readings above the indoor temperature come from three different radio linked temperature sensors outside. One, sensor 2, is mounted outside the kitchen door, and is in permanent shade with only a very small area of sky above it. The other two are more in the open, and can give false readings from reflected sunshine.

I also thought that maybe infra red radiation from the sky or clouds could effect them.  Last night, a few hours after dark, all three sensors read exactly the same figure. Usually all three give different figures. Sometime it might only be a few tenths of a degree, as shown in the picture, but sometimes it can be a full degree or more. It seems sensor 2 gives the truest reading, and that is a shame because the one outside the back bedroom window, sensor 3,  can sometimes give a figure make it seem quite warm outside, but it is just because it can see a lot of sky, and reflected heat radiation.

Back to yesterday, and it seemed to be a most boring day. I was so bored that I even changed the sheet, pillows and duvet cover on my bed. Admittedly it was high time they were changed, but I was sort of waiting for a warm sunny day when I could wash and dry the bits on the washing line in the garden. I even sorted out a prop pole for the washing line so big stuff like duvet covers would not droop onto the tops of the flowers/weeds.

I didn't wash any of the bed linen yesterday, and neither did I wash the backlog of (now) three duvet covers. I could wash and dry the sheet and pillow cases indoors without too much trouble. I might even do that today. If I do, or should I say when I do, I will be careful to use the minimum fabric conditioner. The stuff I put on my bed must have had it's final rinse in too much of a smelly fabric conditioner. I know (hope) that the smell will wear off soon, but it is a bit annoying at the moment.

Just after midday I had a big-ish lunch of two single meat pies I bought from Aldi last Friday. I can't say they were horrible, but they failed to evoke anything positive about them. One was alleged to be chicken, and the other alleged to be beef. Both were made mainly with meat slurry, and neither tasted of the meat they were supposed to be. In fact there was not much of a difference in their tastes. It was a bit of a shame because I knew they were not exactly healthy for me, and I ate them without any pleasure to (sort of) offset their unhealthy qualities.

Later on I would have an unhealthy dinner. After those pies I intended to keep it simple, and quite small, but the best of intentions..... My dinner started with two small packets of crisps. They were followed by two beefburgers - the type that shrinks to just a couple of inches across when well cooked. I should have stopped there, but that "dinner" did not satisfy me, and certainly didn't lift my spirits. What did list my spirits, although they were dulled by a feeling of guilt, was to finish off a half eaten tub of ice cream.

Later in the afternoon I started to watch more episodes of Star Trek: Picard. I had only been watching two episodes at a time before yesterday, but yesterday I watched 3 or 4 episodes, and completed all the episodes of season 2.  I now have just season 3 to watch. I hope it is better than season 2. I still feel sure that it was a good story line, but the entire 10 episodes of 50 minutes each, could have been done in 6 episodes of 30 minutes without loosing any part of the story, and make for far more pleasant viewing. St Bernardus
                              beers and glass
To help me through those over long Star Trek episodes I opened up a few bottles of beer. I ended up drinking 4, mostly very strong, beers, but started with these two from the St Bernardus Brewery - drunk from the appropriate glass. It is a shame that the last beer I drank was not so nice as the previous three. I can't remember what it was called now, well I was pretty drunk at the end, and I can't be bothered to fish it out of the recycling bin to find the name.

I finished the last episode of season 2 at what seemed to be a good time to go to bed. I can't remember an exact time, but I think it was around 9pm. I don't recall having any difficulty getting to sleep. I didn't have the heater on much during the evening, and I think I fell asleep wondering if it was too warm or too cool under the duvet. Evidently it was too warm because I woke up hours later feeling cold. I went for a pee, covered myself up, and managed to get back to sleep.

At about 3.30am I woke up feeling cold again, and once again I had partly uncovered myself. I then decided to turn the heater on low, and see how it went. For no easily explained reason it seemed to take about half an hour before I managed to fall asleep again. At a little after 5am I woke again and decided to turn the heater up full in preparation forf getting up later. To my great annoyance I woke up a few minutes before 6am.

A few minutes after 6am and I might have got up, but mainly I was very annoyed because I was just about to reach the highlight of a dream when I woke up. For once it wasn't a sexual dream. It was about beer. In the dream I was waiting to be served at the small bar of a huge pub. hat I was very much looking forward to was a couple of half pints of a 13° beer (I assumed they would not serve full pints of such a strong beer). I was next to be served when I woke up without even tasting this wunder-beer !

I deliberately made myself go back to sleep in the hope the dream might continue, but by 6.50am I woke up again feeling like my dreams had let me down. The good news this morning was that despite my strange eating yesterday, my blood glucose was down to 8.6mmol/l. I would, of course, prefer it to be lower, but it is not far off my average, and average is good enough. Having mostly eaten all the bad stuff already, there might be hope of a better reading tomorrow is I don't attempt to eat all I could eat today.

One thing about what I ate yesterday, or maybe it included what I ate the day before yesterday, is that it made for a very explosive visit to the toilet this morning. I think I feel comfortable now, but I would not be surprised if I had to make another visit to the toilet before the morning is over. If it is like earlier it could come at short notice. Maybe that is OK because I can't imagine going out on a day like today (or at least on a morning like this morning).

I shall look forward to going out tomorrow when there seems a high chance it will be sunny. As for today.....I really don't know what I shall do. I did mention possibly washing a sheet and pillow cases, and that will use up an hour or so. Other than that I guess I have season 3 of Star Trek: Picard to watch if I get desperate.
