It is quite dull
this morning, but maybe not as dull as the
forecast seems to show. This afternoon could
be very sunny, and the temperature could climb
to 20° C. The temperature could drop a
lot tonight, and early tomorrow morning it may
be just 9° C. Once again, tomorrow afternoon
could be nice and sunny with the temperature
peaking at 20° C.
The highlight of the day was late last
night. For a few days there has been what I
assume to be a mosquito in my bathroom. Two or
three days ago it actually bit me on my left
calf, and I've had one or two other mild
itches that was probably that little
bloodsucker. I have tried to swat it many
time, but last night it alighted near the top
of the shower curtain with the open window
behind it. One quick blast of deodorant spray,
and it flew up and out of the window -
hopefully never to return !
Back to the start of yesterday, and as
sort of planned, nothing happened ! I had a
very lazy day yesterday, and apart from a bit
of washing up, and preparing a salad for my
dinner. I hardly did anything....or at least
nothing productive, but maybe I did a few
little things that helped pass the time - not
that I seemed to be bored yesterday. I laid
down on my bed to read several times, and on a
few occasions I had a short snooze.
There was one little thing I did that
had no immediate use, but maybe could, or even
should be useful in the future. As I passed my
box of assorted cameras, mostly bought cheap
from second hand shops, I spied a bright red
camera, and I couldn't remember much about it.
It was a
Canon
Powershot SX420 IS.
The problem with this camera, if it
could be called a problem, is that it doesn't
do much more than a couple of other "
Bridge
Cameras" I have, but it does have one
trick up it's sleeve, and that is it can
connect to a mobile phone via WiFi (and using
a Canon app on the phone). I've only
found a few very rare occasions when I have
wanted to connect, and control the camera from
my phone. Advanced, maybe full height, selfies
are about the only thing I have done using a
few cameras I have with this facility.
I this was the first "Powershot" camera
that Canon added WiFi to. It is, or was, quite
an high end camera, and I think I only paid
£50 for it in a second hand shop. I have a
suspicion that it might have ended up in the
shop after some sort of crime. As I recall it
came with no accessories, not even a battery
charger, or carrying strap. It might even been
stolen from a showroom, but it was on fully
open display in the second hand shop for a
week or two before I bought it. I would
imagine the shop may have made their own
enquiries, and were satisfied it was legit.
It is actually a good 20M Pixel camera,
with a handy x42 zoom lens, and I probably
ought to use it now and again to justify it's
existence. One thing I haven't found out how
to do is to set a fixed shutter speed. A fast
shutter, maybe even 1/1000th of a second is
good for taking snaps of moving things like
trains. Such a facility seemed to be mentioned
in the specs, but I guess I might have to
download the user manual - another thing not
included when I bought it.
One thing in particular that I did
yesterday was to try connecting it to me
mobile phone. It seemed to faff around less
than I was expecting, and I was soon able to
take a completely pointless picture of he far
side of my bedroom using the phone to control
the camera. The curious thing is that I
have just looked at the pictures on the memory
card in the camera, and it is obvious I have
used it for several walks, and some selfies,
plus pictures of wildlife in my garden. Now
the question is why did I stop using ? I guess
I am just too spoilt for choice when it comes
to cameras.
I had a slightly late (1.30pm ?) lunch
yesterday. It was 5 Marmite rice cakes
(because there was 5 left in the packet) with
a thing slice of ready sliced Cheddar on each
one. My dinner was a fairly large salad. It
was possibly a bit too big, and I should have
used less baby plum tomatoes, and less ready
cooked, flavoured, chicken chunks. I
suspect it was the tomatoes that provided a
bit more sugar than was ideal.
Without the benefit of any calibrated
measures I can't say if this was a triple or
quadrupel whiskey, but I enjoyed a couple of
these after dinner while I watched a bit of TV
(the usual Star Treks). The last Star Trek
(Voyager) finished at 8pm. From then on I did
lots of little things, like reading some news
on my PC, and other banal stuff. Time seemed
to fly by, and after driving out the mosquito
from my bathroom (see top of the page), I was
in bed soon after 9pm. I took a while before I
went to sleep - probably around 10pm.
I can't say my sleep was good. It was
one of those nights where I felt uncomfortable
in all sorts of ways. One discomfort I didn't
notice was constipation. I didn't go at all
yesterday (and I have yet to go this morning).
All my pains in the night were muscles and
joints. It may have been around 2am when I
took a couple of paracetamol. That made a huge
difference, and I probably slept well after
that. I even managed to sleep in until about
6.30am !
My blood glucose reading was good, but
disappointing this morning. In general
8.5mmol/l is good, but not as good as the
previous three mornings. Sadly I can't afford
takeaway shish kebabs every night, and it
seems my own salads don't meet the
specification of a kebab salad. I think I
should use a lot more red and white
cabbage, and less tomatoes. Maybe less
radishes, spring onions, and bell peppers too.
Being a Wednesday I should be going for
a lunchtime drink, ideally with Angela, but
unless my constipation eases I don't think I
dare to. Since writing that last sentence I've
been to the toilet for another attempt - a
fair bit of gas, but nothing solid. I had
better give Angela the bad news soon. I think
I can begin to feel some discomfort in my
nether regions, and maybe I might be OK for a
last minute dash to The Jolly Farmers....or
maybe not.
