The weather today
looks like it is following yesterday's
pattern. It is quite dull this morning, but
bother forecasters (Met Office and BBC) that
this afternoon will be gloriously sunny. Both
agree that all that sunshine won't bring the
air temperature up any higher than 18° C, and
that only for maybe a single hour. 17° C would
seem to be more representative for the
afternoon. Tomorrow could be sunnier than
today, and maybe the temperature will peak at
21° C.
Yesterday was a good day on many
levels. The first good thing was that the
constipation that was bothering me, despite no
discomfort, for a couple of days, came to an
end yesterday morning, and did it with no
drama at all. That made me confident that I
could go out, although only a short distance
because there was still a possibility of
visits to the toilet to come - which didn't
happen.
I had wanted to get some shopping from
Tesco for a day or two, and finally went out
to get my shopping late yesterday morning. I
was originally going to only buy very low
sugar, healthy sort of things, but it seemed
my guts were rumbling with hunger by 11am.
Maybe I also wanted to celebrate my
constipation finishing as well. Plus there was
the temptations of some reduced price
stickers. I bought two naughty "Deli meat
subs", and a Southern fried chicken wrap. They
were nice, but of course I regret it this
morning.
Maybe another thing I regret was buying
the cheese coleslaw. I had intended to have a
scoop or two with my dinner, but I ended up
eating the whole lot. That was possibly
another thing I regretted this morning.
There was one other I bought that maybe was
not a good idea. It was a bottle of French
salad dressing. I think the second or third
ingredient was sugar. I thought it might be
safe in small quantities, but of course I used
far too much !
The afternoon was a beer tasting
session with Michael and Jodie. I had some
regrets there too, but not about what I was
eating or drinking. It was because I have
loaned Michael one of my older mobile phones
with a Smarty Sim card in it. I tried to talk
him through setting it up himself at home, but
I think the booze was making me feel far too
optimistic. In the cold light of day I know he
will be too scared to do it by himself. At the
moment he has a very expensive account with EE
who are charging him the same as when he was
effectively buying a phone from them, and
several years later, after the phone was long
paid for, the price didn't drop, and on top of
that I think his price plan only allows 500MB
of data ! He could be paying as little as £6
per month for double the data allowance.
At the end of the drinking session I
didn't feel as drunk as usual, but I did
notice some typing I was doing a bit later
needed a lot of backspacing and trying again !
It also made me a blasé about my dinner. The
original plan was just a pile of mixed salad
leaves and some corned beef. It needed some
dressing, and I think I used far too much,
high sugar, French Dressing. I also tossed in
a little pack of diced cheese with garlic and
olives. Finally I used a small tub of cheese
coleslaw as a side dish, and ended up scoffing
the lot.
I watched the usual Star Treks, and
then with nothing else worth watching on TV I
turned it off, and did other stuff. Some of
that other stuff was planning what I might do
today. It was my intention to see just three
bands playing short sets at the BrockleyMax
festival. First I double checked where they
would be playing. On my first attempt, earlier
yesterday, I got the wrong place, but last
night I found the right place on the map. It
will be happening on what I think is a
pedestrianised area between Brockley railway
station, and The Brockley Barge - a
Wetherspoons pub.
The Brockley Max festival goes on for
just over a week, but as far as I cans see
there are only a few bands playing on a live
stage, and only today. Those bands are:
5.00pm - Bring The Angels -
https://hotvox.co.uk/artist/bring-the-angels/
6.00pm - The Artiston -
https://hotvox.co.uk/artist/the-artiston/
6.30pm - Alex And The Wonderland -
https://hotvox.co.uk/artist/alex-and-the-wonderland/
I think there was a band listed for 5.30pm,
but I think they may have had rap influences
or something. It could be a good time for a
swift half in the pub !
I was in bed reading by 9pm, and
probably asleep by 10pm. In one respect I
slept well. I seemed to mostly sleep in 3 hour
chunks, but I did seem to have some long (20
to 30 minutes) of insomnia between them.....or
did I ? I know that stuff I had been reading
had intrigued me, and it either popped up in a
dream, or maybe I was thinking about it while
I was awake between sleeps. My memory of it
does have a slightly dream like quality so
maybe I was half awake and half asleep....or
something.
What I had been reading was SciFi based
on an imagined extrapolation of experiments
both the USA and Russians were doing during
the cold war, and it involved training
dolphins to attach bombs to boats, and to
rescue drowning soldiers. The first leap from
reality was that the Russians had managed to
make the dolphins, and several other marine
species to talk (albeit in their own
language). The story reveals they always could
talk, but like cats are known to understand
anything a human say, but refuse to
acknowledge it, the dolphins initially refused
to talk to humans.
One of the things that I was curious
about is whether the author had actually
learned anything about dolphin behaviour, or
if he was just making some of it up. For
instance there is a passage in the book where
a dolphin is in a special space suit for some
activities in deep space. He laments that the
human designers of the space suit had left no
space for the dolphins erection (they are
mammals, and have penises, or so I believe).
The dolphin was bored and let his mind wander
to erotic thoughts, and so had an erection
that in the confined space was very
uncomfortable. What's more is that even if
unencumbered, it had no hands to do anything
with it, and in normal life dolphins would
(apparently) rub their penis on some suitable
surface as a form of masturbation. Somehow
this amused the schoolboy in me !
I got up at 6.30am this morning. It
felt earlier than desired, but it also seemed
like I would never get back to sleep again.
One of the first things I did was to go to the
toilet for the first pee of the day, and
sometime I would also have a poo. This morning
I most emphatically had a poo ! I reckon it
was more catchup from my couple of days of
constipation. It, and a smaller amount half an
hour later, didn't seem to be matched with how
much I had eaten yesterday.
On the other hand, I had eaten more of
stuff not good for me. My blood glucose
reading was a very high 9.5mmol/l. I have
already theorised the reasons for it, although
there is also the possibility that one of the
beers I had yesterday may have had a lot of
sugar in it, but I can't seem to think which
beer it might have been - if indeed it was any
beer.
My plans for today were ever so simple,
and it could have been an enjoyable day. Maybe
it still might be. The first thing I will
probably do after shampooing and showering, is
to go to Aldi for some shopping. I
particularly want to get some toilet paper in
my belief that Aldi's is cheaper for what is
probably identical to what Tesco sell with a
different outer wrapper. I also want some
cheap Aldi own brand laundry detergent. There
is no immediate need for these things, but
this morning, provided I am ready in time,
would be a convenient time.
My plans to go to the Brockley Max
festival are now in disarray since checking on
the delivery of a small parcel from Amazon. It
is to be delivered today, and experience
suggests it will arrive right in the middle of
the time I would be in Brockley, and so I am
not moving from here until the parcel arrives
- and it could be as late as 9pm (but
hopefully a better estimate will appear on
their tracking page once it has left the
Dartford depot).
