It was a lovely day yesterday,
although much of the morning featured enough
light cloud to make sunny spells quite rare.
The clouds broke up by middy, and the
afternoon was very warm and sunny. The
temperature hit 27 or maybe even 28° C.
The BBC seem very confident
that today will feature mostly sunny
spells, but also a few hours of pure
sunshine. The Met Office are rather more
pessimistic, and say there will be many
random hours during the day with no
sunshine at all, and only pure sunshine in
the last two hours before sunset. Both
forecasters agree it will be a hot day
with the temperature reaching 28°
C.Tomorrow could be very sunny with the
temperature reaching 29° C (Met Office) or
30° C (BBC).
Yesterday was a strangely
satisfying day despite not doing a few
things I thought I might do, like go for a
walk in the sunshine, and ultimately only
doing two things of any great value. Oh
well, at least the food was good.
One thing I did was a bit of
photography, but it was very simple stuff,
and all done without leaving my bedroom -
which included the photo editing on my PC.
It all started when I showed the selfie of
me wearing a 1997 Catford Beer Festival
t-shirt. I wondered how many other beer
festival t-shirts had survived. They were
all very rarely used these days, and right
at the back of all my other t-shirts.
Shrinking the pictures to
show as a 4 x 4 matrix means the details
are none too clear, but these are the
surviving t-shirts. It is possible, maybe
probable, that these are the only
Catford
beer festival t-shirts I ever
bought, but I can't be certain of it. In
the top left is the 1997 t-shirt. It has
probably been washed with black t-shirts
too often, and looks a bit grey. There are
also small holes in the armpit region.
Top right is the 1997 t-shirt. It
is still brilliantly white, the logo on
the front has not faded, and it is in near
new condition. Bottom left is the 2004
t-shirt. It is also perfectly (or near
perfect) white, but the screen printing
does have some feint areas. It might have
been like that from new. I think it is
this one that also has a couple of small
holes in the armpit region. Bottom right
is the 2006 t-shirt. It is in very good
condition, although the logo is not as
bold as the 1997 t-shirt.
What I thought was my main
achievement for yesterday was to do a bit
of laundry. I didn't exactly rush to get
it done, and it wasn't until just gone 1pm
before I got it on the line to dry.
It dried a lot faster than
expected, and it was ready to bring in,
all warm and dry, around 4pm. There was
still hours of warm sunshine to go, and I
thought "why not".......?
I did another wash of whites and
blues (let's pretend the greenish blue
underpants on the right are actually blue
!). I think I waited until 8pm, when Star
Trek: Voyager was finishing on TV before I
brought this second lot of washing in. It
had missed the best of the sun, and the
hand towel did have a small, very
slightly, damp area, but easily dried
overnight hanging on the banister rail.
I think I have now described just
about everything I did yesterday except
for one thing - eating. I'm sure I must
have done other little things because I
don't recall feeling bored at any time.
Actually......I just remembered I did do a
fair bit of washing up - mainly the
glasses from Thursday's beer session, but
there was some cutlery as well.
Eating: My breakfast, and I
mentioned yesterday, was the Singapore
style rice from my Chinese takeaway order
the previous night. I had a slightly early
lunch of leftover BBQ spare ribs. There
was only 4 of them, and there is very
little meat on them, so it was quite a
light lunch. I had a slightly larger very
much later lunch at about 3pm. it was a
small plate of oven chips. I saw the bag
in the freezer while taking a frozen glass
out for a cold drink, and suddenly I had
this strong desire for chips.
After all I had eaten earlier, I
thought a very light dinner might be good.
The lightest I could think of was a tub of
low calorie. and low(ish) sugar ice cream.
I think there are plenty of things that
could have been more satisfying, but it
was very nice, and in a way it was quite
small - once it had melted and all the air
blown into it had escaped, it was like
half a glass of milk.
There was one final thing I did
before going to bed, but I can't seem to
recall if I did during the final
commercial break or after Voyager had
finished my TV viewing for the day. It was
to bring in my second lot of laundry. It
was still very hot in my bedroom, but as
9pm approached I could feel the air
outside was getting just a little cooler.
I closed the window before I closed the
curtains (while it was still almost
daylight outside), but left the small fan
on when I got onto my bed (but not
in
my bed).
I expected to read for quite a long
time, but I barely read a couple of pages
before I put the book down and turned out
the light. I think I may have been asleep
before it was dark outside (although it
must have been fairly dusky). On the
whole, I seemed to sleep well during the
night. I awoke a couple of times for a
pee, and there was one occasion when I
seemed to stay awake for 10 to 20 minutes.
I finally woke up, and got up rather early
this morning.
I remember odd bits of dream, but
none, except for one short sequence is
worth describing because they are just
tiny fragments of dream. The only slightly
longer bit of dream, but probably no more
than 3 or 4 minutes, involved time travel
! Instead of a Dr Who style TARDIS, it was
a lift car. The "floor diagram" on the
left controller was unusually sideways
instead of up and down. I wanted to go
down a floor, but the left only went up.
It was probably some sort of
trans-dimensional voodoo that after
getting to the top it's next stop was the
bottom - it was like the lift shaft was a
loop.
There were two oddly marked
"floors" on the controller. I asked a
fellow lift passenger what they were, and
he replied "ah, you must be from the
future" and went on to say that the two
strange floors were actually one and two
years ago. I can't remember my reaction,
but I think it was along the lines of that
it sounded like a useful idea. Oddly
enough, it wasn't until after I had woken
up that I made comparisons to Dr Who's
TARDIS - not that there any similarity
beyond, at least from the outside, they
were similar sized boxes.
In one respect, yesterday was a bit
of an experiment. I had mostly eaten stuff
that could be contentious, but my faith in
my own hoped for theories was rewarded
when I checked my blood glucose this
morning. 8.7mmol/l is not far off my
typical monthly average, and good enough,
although maybe if I had not eaten the
chips I could have got a lower reading. If
I had had a shish kebab with salad instead
of ice cream it would have been lower,
maybe even under 8.0mmol/l, but as I said,
it was good enough.
There are a few things I could or
should do today. One is to finally get to
Tesco, but only if I feel I have the time.
I think the main aim today is a long walk,
up and over the hill, to Manor House
Gardens in Lee. They are holding a fun day
there, and there is a music stage. I have
a strong suspicion that most users of it
will be of no interest, or even of strong
negative interest, but the Entourage Band
are usually passable, although it
sometimes depends on Dik not trying to
experiment with his pedals and such. He
should leave that to the rehearsal studio
! They are on at 2.40pm, and I expect they
will be shocked to see me - provided I can
find the energy to climb to the top of the
hill, and own the other side (and, of
course) I have to do the same going home
again !
