Yesterday was generally bright with
lots of sunny spells. The day started off
almost chilly, and it seemed to take until
early afternoon before it warmed up, and
peaked at 22° C.
I took the screenshot above
before 7am, and so it seemed prudent to
check nothing serious has changed in the
intervening hours. I am happy to say that
apart from 10am now being shown as just
sunny spells, the rest of the forecast
hasn't changed at all. Today should be
bright and sunny, and by mid afternoon the
temperature should reach 28° C. Tomorrow
should reach 25° C. It should start sunny
and end sunny, but the middle of the day
could see rain, and some of it might be
heavy rain. The BBC is in a pessimistic
mood about tomorrow, and has added
lightning bolts to it's early afternoon
rain !
I seemed to be in a very lazy mood
yesterday. I got as far as washing my
hair, and having a shower, put a brand new
double fitted sheet in soak for it's first
ever wash, and than did nothing ! I ended
up laying on my bed, initially reading,
and then ending up having a snooze.
I think I probably said I seemed to
sleep well the night before, but now I
doubt that. It did seem ridiculously easy
just to shut my eyes and have a snooze at
10 in the morning ! (Possibly it was a bit
later.) I have no idea how long I snoozed
for, but I am wondering if it could have
been for as long as an hour ? What I do
know is that I woke up feeling cold, and a
few bits of me susceptible to cold, such
as my right elbow, were aching.
I came close to be tempted to
getting the heater out, but I resisted
that by reminding myself that it was July,
almost the peak of summer, and it couldn't
be cold even if my thermometers said it
was only 16 or 17° C. It was 22° C inside
my bedroom, but that does seem to be the
critical temperature when maybe just a
change of a single degree seems to be the
difference to feeling warm or cold.
At around midday I received a text
message from Michael saying he was driving
to Tesco, and would I like some bottles of
Diet Coke. I said yes please ! It was
about 2pm when he messaged again to say he
would be pulling up outside with them.
While he transferred the bottles to me we
chatted about what we would do later. The
choice was between going to visit the
rooftop garden of The Catford
Constitutional Club, or to have a normal
drink in my dining room.
I didn't really have any enthusiasm
to go out, and the way Michael accepted
that so easily suggested he was not very
enthusiastic about it. We left it that he
would turn up here around 3.30pm. in the
meantime I missed a phone call from Jodie.
I phoned her back, and got through on the
second attempt. She just wanted to say
that she was back from her (and Alan's)
rock festival in Finland, but as expected,
she needed a day to detox herself, and
that she would be coming here until Sunday
afternoon for our fairly regular Sunday
drink.
Michael arrived just after 3.30pm,
and we had a good drink, and it was good
because we both stuck to stuff we knew we
liked - except for a can of Fosters that
we both agreed tasted like the horse it
had come from should be put down ! As
usual, Michael was taking ten to the
dozen, and I rarely managed to get a word
in edgewise, but it was still a pleasant
few hours. I think Michael left in time to
watch Star Trek: Enterprise, and that is
also what I did once he had left.
I think it was during the first
commercial break in Enterprise that I
rushed down to the kitchen to put my
dinner together. It was another very
simple meal of a heap of salad leaves
topped with some ready cooked and
flavoured chicken chunks. The one small
change is that I had some slices of raw
white onion with it. Sadly, I don't think
the onion enhanced the dinner, although it
certainly added no negative quality.
I had started yesterday with a
rather high blood glucose reading
(10.1mmol/l on my old meter, but only
9.5mmol/l on the new), and the plan was to
be very careful. That got off to a bad
start when I (think) I had a double
portion of instant noodles for breakfast.
I don't think I had any more until shortly
before drinking when I had a small pack of
chicken fajitas (chicken lumps with some
sort of spicy marinade). I think I might
have avoided looking to see the sugar
content of them, but I have a suspicion it
was more than just plain chicken -
possibly a lot more.
My dinner should have been very
safe. What came after, as a dessert, was
taking a big gamble. It was a tub of ice
cream - of the type I believe to have very
little impact on my blood glucose level.
Maybe it did, or maybe it didn't. It was
possibly a silly gamble because yesterday
I was suffering from something I was
surprised I hadn't been suffering from
over the last few weeks. It is admittedly
not every time, but quite often after, or
during, a long run of high blood glucose
readings I develop a boil on my inner
thigh.
It was the day before yesterday
when I fist noticed some discomfort. By
last night it could be quite painful when
sitting in a certain way. It was also
often a bit painful when lying on my side
in bed. Last night was not a good
night. Despite my constipation of the
previous 2 days coming to an end yesterday
(once rather uncomfortably, and the second
time notable for the quantity involved !)
it seemed like my stomach still felt
tender, and was prone to a few gurgles and
rumbles during the night.
There was also the problem of the
temperature of my bedroom. Yesterday may
have been warmer then the previous days,
but not enough to really warm it up. The
temperature was at an awkward level - far
too warm under the duvet, and far too cold
without it. I ended up having a lousy
night. I seemed to wake up far too often.
Sometimes I needed a pee, but only one
time did it seem to be a compelling reason
to wake up. There were several times I
just woke up because i had been sleeping
with the duvet kicked aside and I felt
cold, and various bits of me, mainly bits
of my arms, ached.
As well as all that, the boil on my
inner thigh (very near the anus) was
getting very sore. Soon after getting up,
mainly because I didn't think I could
sleep any more despite feeling tired, I
went to the toilet. I was very pleased
that it was very obvious I was not
constipated this morning. As I went to
flush the toilet I noticed a streak of
blood down the inside of the bowl. My boil
had burst ! It was pretty messy. I checked
the underpants I was wearing and they had
a big bloodstain in them. I changed to a
new pair (selecting an old and not
generally liked pair in case I have to
throw them away).
That pair also got a lot of blood
on them, but it did seem the blood flow
was almost over, and the third pair of
underpants I shall be wearing until I have
a shower, may not be too stained. If
nothing else, I am now sitting down
comfortably. As well as all that
kerfuffle, I checked my blood glucose as I
do every morning. This morning it was an
interesting surprise. The new meter said
9.0mmol/l. That was a bit higher than I
like, but I didn't think it was too bad
after last night's ice cream. The old
meter was very surprising because this
time, for the first time, it gave a lower
reading than the new meter. It said just
8.5mmol/l - a very average reading, and a
rather good one compared to typical
reading in the last 2 or 3 weeks.
All the excitement may happen
tonight - if I can keep my eyes open. For
the rest of today I only definitely have
to do one thing - finish washing the brand
new fitted double bed sheet, and get it
hanging in the sunshine to dry. Once that
(or the big bucket it is in) is out of the
bath I can have a shower, and maybe wash
my hair. I ought to follow that with at
least soaking my blood stained underwear
in bio detergent. I think that will use up
the last dregs of bio detergent, and I may
go to Tesco to see if I can find any in
there - plus some food.
For my plans for later to come to
fruition I will not only have to be able
to keep my eyes from closing, but I will
need a combined lunch/dinner mid
afternoon, and, ideally, a few long
snoozes during the day. I plan to go out
tonight to take pictures of two bands.
Hell On Tap are playing in The Swan And
Mitre, and Chain are playing 3 or 4
minutes walk up the road in The Partridge.
Part of this cunning plan is that there
are several other popular bands playing in
the Bromley area, and hopefully that will
help keep the crowds a bit thinner at the
two pubs I want to go to. It is possible
that I may only spend half an hour at each
venue, but sometimes I take my best
pictures when it is a rush - and I have no
idea why. Hopefully, 1) I will be able to
drag myself away and get the bus to
Bromley tonight (when I will really be
wanting to go to bed), and 2) I will get a
few good pictures to show tomorrow.
