Yesterday was yet another sunny day
that seemed possibly unseasonal, but was
very welcome. The temperature may have
briefly hit 21° C.
Today sees a change in the weather,
but maybe not the more extreme change
forecast for today 24 hours ago. The Met
Office says it won't rain until 11pm
tonight, and that there will be a
scattering of sunny spells until at least
mid afternoon. The BBC say sunny spells
from sunrise to 6pm, and then it will
start to rain. Both forecasters say it
will still reach 21° C.
Tomorrow sees a bigger change. It will be
very dull with some rain, and the maximum
temperature of 16° C, but it won't get
that high until early evening. The BBC
forecast is not that different, although
say the temperature may peak at 17° C
around mid afternoon.
I seemed to feel moderately
good yesterday. Maybe it was proof that
many ills are all in the mind, and having
a good excuse not to even consider going
out was enough to let me relax, but not
relax too much - I was expecting a
delivery of beer, and had to be alert for
that.
Fortunately, unlike Amazon, most
courier companies give a reasonably tight
estimate of a one hour slot for when the
delivery will take place. My beer arrived
a little past the mid point of the one
hour slot, and it was at about 11:30am
when it arrived on my doorstep. As many
couriers now do, they snapped a picture of
the box of beer on my doorstep, and that
is the picture seen on the left.
Once I had been notified of the one
hour slot I could relax, and have a
shower. I did have thoughts that I might
go out later, and being fresh and clean
would be good for that. I thought about a
longer walk than I actually did - which
was from home to Poundstretcher and back
again.
Once I had my box of beers inside,
opened, and a few beers put in my
refrigerators, I went out. I guess it was
a little after midday. There were a few
things I definitely wanted from
Poundstretcher. I wanted, and bought some
sugar free fizzy drinks. I wanted some
more sugar free biscuits, but they only
had the one type instead of three or four
types. The type they had was a plain
"fibre" biscuit which is nice, but
unexciting. I bought three packs so I have
plenty if they run out of those too.
The other thing I wanted was more
supplies of blue "support bandage". It is
principally for things like added support
for sore wrists or elbows, but I am
carrying out an experiment on it. It is
like a mild version of Japanese foot
binding. I am finding out if a fairly
tight wrapping across my foot, as seen in
the picture, will pull my foot back into
shape - less bunion, and the big toe
straightened up a bit. In my wildest
fantasies I think it seems to be working,
but in reality.....
I had little to do in the
afternoon, but with nice sunshine pouring
through my bedroom window I was content to
lay on my bed quietly reading for some
time. It wasn't quite nice enough to
completely distract me from the idea of
food. I was very aware I had to be very
careful, but I though one small instant
noodle pot, of a new flavour (beef) that I
found in Poundstretcher couldn't do much
harm.
A bit later I felt peckish again,
and I had a small portion of the micro
chips that I have previously thought to be
safe enough in small quantities. An
earlier purchase from Poundstretcher
helped in this. I poured at least three
quarters of the bag of micro chips into an
air tight container where they should
survive long periods without going stale.
I ate the other quarter, and I also ate 4
small, alleged sugar free, chocolate chip
cookies. The rest of the pack also went
into an airtight container so once again I
feel no compulsion to eat them all up too
soon.
I decided I would play it very safe
when it came to dinner. I waited until
gone 6pm before ordering a shish kebab
takeaway. One thing I was banking on was
that as usual on Tuesdays there was a 20%
discount on stuff ordered via Just Eat.
usually I get loads of spam to remind me
of this, but not yesterday, but I still
got the hoped for discount that makes an
order almost affordable (but still a bit
of a luxury item).
It turned out to be the strangest
order I have ever got. I ordered a small
lamb shish kebab, and a large chicken
kebab. When the order was delivered I
started on the smaller box which should
have had the lamb shish kebab in it. It
didn't, it had chicken in it. I then
opened the larger box and found that had a
mix of chicken and lamb shish kebab. I can
only guess the chef got mixed up and
realised he was putting the chicken in the
small box, and then decided to put the
rest of the chicken in with the lamb in
the bigger box. It could have been a bit
of problem if the order was for two
people, but as I always intended to eat
both (both minus the pitta bread) I was
more than happy to eat it.
As usual, I watched the three
Star Treks on TV last evening. As usual,
Star Trek: Voyager was annoying. Last
night I finally realised why. I realised I
just can't stand Captain Janeway using her
attempt at a sympathetic voice. It seems
like the sort of voice a rapist might use
to distract his or her victim. Evidently
Michael likes that voice because he is in
live with Janeway, but it creeps me out.
Also as usual, it had long been
dark outside before Star Trek: Voyager
finished, and so soon after I went to bed.
I didn't seem to feel all that tired, but
I don't think I managed to read for half
an hour before I put the book down, and
went to sleep. I seemed to sleep in almost
three hour chunks through the night,
although I don't think I actually got 9
hours of sleep, although it would have
been nice.
I am sure I dreamed a lot last
night, but all I can remember seems like a
memory of the previous night. It was set
in a big college, or maybe university
(although I have never been in a
university before), but maybe there were
differences to the dream I tried to
describe yesterday. The dream started off
in a classroom, although it is the only
classroom I can remember with a big settee
in it. I was sitting on the settee with a
friend to my right when a younger boy sat
down on my left, and so close that he was
touching me.
I suspect he just wanted to be
annoying, and I had to have strong words
with him to get him to move away. The
lecture started, and it seemed to be about
kebab making ! The teacher (professor ?)
had a grill on his desk, and started
cooking some meat. Suddenly a glob of
flaming fat shot out, and set another
pupils hair on fire ! It was quickly put
out, but it seemed obvious that the grill
was a little out of control. We were all
sent to the theatre to watch something. I
never discover what it was we would watch
because I, and at least several others,
failed to find the theatre.
I'm sure that dream had other
adventures in it, but I can't recall any
more. I feel sure I had some other dream
just before waking up, but all details of
that have now evaporated. I seemed to feel
OK when I got up, and maybe my blood
glucose readings confirmed that, although
in reality they have very little bearing
on how I feel - except a good reading does
add a sort of boost to the day.
The readings I took this morning
were very mixed up, but at least two of
them almost agreed. My newest meter
read 8.1mmol/l, and that seemed quite good
enough. The oldest meter read 8.6mmol/l.
That is sort of typical, but disappointing
after spending good money on a delicious
shish kebab. It was the older meter that
was the real outlier. It read a rather
fantastic 6.8mmol/l. I think the average
between the three readings basically said
I had brought my blood glucose reading
down from too high to a very sensible
level.
Things get trick today. I am
waiting for another beer delivery. I have
already been given a one hour slot between
12:06 and 13:06pm. If it arrives at the
beginning of that slot I can go to The
Jolly Farmers at about my normal time. If
it arrived at the end time I will be
setting out very late, but that is better
than nothing. The overall good thing is
that I have plenty of time to shave, wash
my hair, and have a shower before going
out.
