My Diary/Blog For the Month of September 2023

Saturday 30th September 2023
 08:24 BST

It was nice and sunny yesterday, and that sunshine really warmed up my two south facing rooms. Outside it didn't really go above 19° C, but that felt comfortable enough.
another sunny day
The BBC weather forecast is a bit more generous with it's sunshine and sunny spells, but the latest revision to the Met Office forecast is getting very similar. Only 11am is now shown with no sunshine, and 10am and 6pm are shown with full sunshine. All other hours are currently shown as sunny spells. Both forecasters agree that today will peak at 19° C in the afternoon. Tomorrow is currently an enigma. The Met Office say it will be a dull day, but with a high of 22° C. The BBC predict tomorrow will be mostly sunny with a high of 23° C. I expect that later today their forecasts will start to merge.

I can't describe yesterday as a good day, but it did have its moments. One problem is that I felt mildly ill. I don't think I can attribute that to my very high blood glucose, but having to eat as sparsely as I could manage (which was not as sparse as I would have liked) just made me feel worse. My whole day, night, and even the start of this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today.
Friday 29th September 2023
 08:22 BST

There was very little, hardly any, maybe even no sunshine yesterday, but it was not too dull, and it was dry. The temperature reached 19° C, and that felt comfortable enough.
sunshine or sunny spells later
The sky looks a bit grey as I write this, and any sunny spells seem unlikely, but both forecasters says there should be sunny spells by 9am. Those sunny spells could turn in to full sunshine at times during the day, and they, or sunny spells should last until sunset. It should reach 20° C this afternoon, or just 19° C if you subscribe to The BBC.  Tomorrow could see a rather cool start - just 11° C according to the BBC. Both forecasters disagree on the amount of sunny spells tomorrow. The BBC are quite enthusiastic about them, but the Met Office only offer a handful during the day. It should still see at least 19° C in the afternoon.

Yesterday was very good apart from another disastrous end to the day - more of which later. It didn't feel like a conventional hangover, but I guess that was what it was. The long term effect of my boozing excesses on Wednesday left me feeling listless yesterday morning, and I did almost nothing until a mad dash around midday. Of course "mad dash" is pure hyperbole (is that the right word ?). What I actually did yesterday, last night, and this morning, is described more fully in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 28th September 2023
 08:54 BST

It was the BBC weather forecast that came the closest to predicting yesterday's weather. The Met Office predicted just white cloud for the whole day (although they did add a couple of sunny spells in a later revision). The BBC said sunny spells for most of the day, and that was close enough to reality to be right. They even got a peak of  22° C correct, while The met Office said 21° C.
another dull day ?
As I write this the sky looks more grey than white, but maybe that is just nit picking, and the Met Office Forecast was right - except it has now been revised to say sunny spells at 10am, and also at 5pm, but no other time. That is less than the clump of sunny spells shown in the early version of the forecast. It still predicts a peak of 19° C. This time the BBC have got off to a very bad start. Their latest version of their forecast shows full sunshine for 9am. It is 9am now, and it is very dull outside !  They do predict some sunny spells later, but maybe their boldest claim, and one that feels like it could be right, is for light rain from 9pm until gone midnight. They also predict a high of 19° C today. Both forecasters predict a mix of sunshine and sunny spells tomorrow, and say the afternoon high will be 19° C (Met Office) or 20° C (BBC).

Yesterday was quite a good day - one of the best recently - although it did end on a sort of disastrous way. The latter was because my head was distracted by alcohol, and hunger. It was a day, as I said yesterday, when I could be as lazy as I liked providing I was washed and dressed, ready to go out soon after midday. The story of yesterday continues in my complete archived paged for today which also includes about my night and this morning.
Wednesday 27th September 2023
 08:34 BST

Instead of rain yesterday morning, as forecast, it was the start of sunny spells that seemed to last until full sunshine took over from mid afternoon. All that sunshine raised the temperature to 22° C again.
maybe dull, maybe not
The latest revision to the forecast has tried to bow to reality. It now shows sunny spells for 9 and 10am. The rest of the day is still shown as dull white cloud. There certainly has been some sunshine this morning, but it looks unlikely the sun will break through again in time for 9am ! On the other hand, The BBC forecast shows sunny spells, and even some full sunshine throughout the day. Both forecasters agree on a temperature of 21° C today, although The BBC does show a single hour at 22° C when full sunshine is shown. I don't think today's forecasts are terribly helpful.  The forecast for tomorrow by The BBC shows sunny spells until mid afternoon. The Met Office shows dull clouds until mid afternoon when sunny spells will start ! The BBC predict 19° C tomorrow, and The Met Office predict 18° C.

Yesterday had it's highs and lows, but the biggest high was totally unexpected. For a week or more there was a very large spider living in my bathroom. It was always high up, and for 3 or 4 days it seemed dormant. Yesterday it started moving again, and it crawled down the wall to where I could catch it in a glass, and throw it out the window ! Obviously a lot more happened yesterday, and it, plus some stuff about my night (with raunchy dreams) and thoughts and plans this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today.
Tuesday 26th September 2023
 07:36 BST

It was a very nice day yesterday. There was a lot of sunshine, albeit sometimes as just sunny spells, and it felt nice and warm. The temperature rose to at least the forecast 22° C.
rain this morning
After yesterday's sunshine it seems a shame to start today with rain, although it hasn't actually started as I write this, but the sky is far from clear. The Met Office continues, in their latest revision, to say there will be just two hours of rain, and after that it will be sunny for the resat of the day. The BBC say it will rain until 1pm , and there will, of course, be some thunder and lightning (The BBC love throwing in a few lightning bolts to their forecasts !). Both forecasters agree the temperature will reach 22° C by early afternoon. Both forecasters disagree about tomorrow. The BBC says sunny spells for most of the day, and the Met Office say it will be dull all day. Both say it will be 21° C.

Yesterday was a good day, and my stress level dropped to possibly lower than usual. There was a consequence to that which I'll describe later. It was one of those days where I achieved three good things, although the last one was instrumental to the consequence I will be describing later. It is all described in my complete archived page for today. It also describes a stupid decision I made about my dinner, how my night went, and how bad today has started !
Monday 25th September 2023
 06:53 BST

The Met Office forecast for yesterday said it would be dull until mid afternoon, but The BBC forecast threw in a scattering of sunny spells for most of the day, and indeed the morning and early afternoon was often sunny. From mid afternoon the two forecasts agreed with each other, and the sunny spells continued. The temperature rose to about 19° C.
sunny day, and warmer than recently
The latest revision to the forecast says 7am will feature sunny spells, and indeed the eastern sky does look fairly clear as I write this, but the sun is too low on the horizon to be seen yet. The rest of today is forecast to be bright with many hours of full sunshine around occasional hours of just sunny spells. The temperature could rise to 22° C, but maybe only for a couple of hours. Some of tomorrow may be bright and sunny, but an equal amount may be dull, and there is also likely to be a few showers. Once again 22° C is expected.

My stress levels started to drop yesterday morning, but not before they had triggered what was possibly IBS (irritable bowel syndrome). I most definitely needed to go to the toilet many times in the morning, and it was very splattery. To make matters worse, I was suffering a lot from lack of sleep during the previous two nights. There are more, less unpleasant, things about my day described in my full archived page for today. It also also includes stuff about my night, and the start of this morning.
Sunday 24th September 2023
 07:06 BST

Yesterday was a most pleasant day weatherwise. There was a lot of sunshine, albeit often as just sunny spells, and the temperature was just high enough to make being out and about in a t-shirt comfortable. The forecast said a max of 18° C, but it may have been a tad higher.
mostly dull
Unlike yesterday, today seems like it may be mostly dull until mid afternoon. The BBC weather forecast gives a bit more comfort by saying there could be sunny spells scattered through most of the day. Both forecasters agree that today should reach 19° C. Tomorrow could be far sunnier, and warmer too with 22° C possible.

Imagine the stress levels of going to the dentist for a root canal job. That was the stress I felt yesterday going to Angela's wedding. It was a day when I had to be up, washed, shampooed, and dressed ready to go to the bus stop, for a bus to Bromley Civic Centre, at midday. It didn't improve my temperament when there seems to be a 55 minute wait for a bus that should be every 20 minutes, and possibly every 15 minutes during peak Saturday shopping time. The story continues in my complete archived page for today, which also describes the terrible sleep I had, and a big disappointment this morning.
Saturday 23rd September 2023
 08:38 BST

Yesterday's sunny spells lasted into the afternoon. I'm not sure when the last one was, but I am very sure it was a lot later than the forecast predicted. With a little extra sunshine it is possible the temperature went a little higher than the forecast 17° C, but I didn't think to check it.
maybe a reasonably sunny day
It is certainly bright and sunny as I write this, and it should continue for several hours before it gives way to sunny spells. The last hour featuring sunny spells is now shown to be 4pm in the latest revision. That revision also reduced the peak of 18° C to just 2 hours instead of the three hours predicted in the early forecast. No rain is expected today, and even the BBC have decided not to throw in a random thunderstorm, but they do say the sunny spells could last until 6pm. Tomorrow could be like today, but backwards - the full sunshine in the late afternoon, and sunny spells in the morning. It is possible the temperature could reach 20° C tomorrow.

I had some delusions that I might go out for a walk in the sunny spells yesterday, but then reality caught up with me. I needed no excuse not to go out because I found I was expecting the delivery of part of an Amazon order yesterday. It was being delivered by Evri (Hermes), and as far as I can remember, they usually deliver in the morning, or early afternoon. All I can remember doing yesterday, last night, and this morning is described in my complete archived page for today.
Friday 22nd September 2023
 08:00 BST

Yesterday featured some of the heaviest rain I have seen for ages. It was like all the rain forecast for yesterday fell all in one go. Light rain was forecast for midday, and heavy rain for 1pm. By 2pm no rain had fallen, and I thought was had got away with it, but five or ten minutes later - Whoosh, or should that be slosh ? For may 20 minutes it came down like stair rods. After that it stopped, and the world (or maybe my bit of Catford) started to dry out. I think there may have been a few bright spells later in the afternoon, but it was still an almost cold day with the mercury only just reaching 17° C.
dull start
The forecast has been revised since I took the screenshot above. The change has reduced the sunshine to just sunny spells for 10am, and full sunshine for 11am and midday (which feels unlikely as I look at the very grey sky outside). After that, the only thing that spoils the monotony of white cloud until sunset is possible light shower at 4pm. Once again the temperature will only reach 17° C, and then falls away in the early evening to give another rather chilly night. Both the BBC and The Met Office predict tomorrow will feature at least some glimpse of the sun most daylight hours, and possibly a few hours of full sunshine. Once again the temperature will peak at 17° C after 6am being between 9 and 11° C (depending on whose forecast you believe).

How to describe yesterday ? I guess it was a fair day with some ups and downs. Like the day before, and probably most days recently, or longer, I was very lazy in the morning, and that suited me just fine. I think I did consider trying to wash and get ready to go out a lot earlier to get a bit of shopping, but in the end I didn't need to, and couldn't be bothered to do it even for fun. My day, but not the evening (that was a drunken blank), my night, and the start of this morning is all described in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 21st September 2023
 09:16 BST

Yesterday's forecast extreme rainfall turned out to be wrong. After about 8am in the morning a few brief sunny spells turned into some more lengthy sunny spells by 10am. They finished around midday, and the first rain fell at approx 1pm, but it was only a light shower instead of the forecast heavy rain. Intermittent light showers continued for hours, but there was no obvious heavy rain until possibly after dark. At some time in the night I thought I heard some heavy rain, but it might have been a dream for all I know. There was a short period in the late morning when the temperature hit 19° C, but generally the afternoon temperature was just 18° C.
sunny start, but rain later
The latest revision gives a nice outlook than in the early version in the screenshot above. The sunny spells that are happening now should continue until midday. At 1pm the sky may turn dark, and there could be a light to medium rainfall. The next rain could be at 3pm, and a heavy fall is predicted. It should/could stay dry and bright until one last light rainfall at 6pm. The highest temperature today could be just 17° C. Tomorrow could also reach 17° C. It will be a generally bright and dry until 4pm when there could be three hours of light rain. Naturally tomorrows forecast is pure fantasy, and today's could also be a bit fantasy.

Yesterday was not a great day, but it was generally OK. The only thing I did in the morning was to shave, shampoo and shower ready for my Wednesday appointment in The Jolly Farmers. There was always a microscopic chance that I could have been joined by Angela, but I didn't really believe it would happen, and it didn't. All that did happen during the day, night, and this morning, is described in my complete archived page for today.
Wednesday 20th September 2023
 08:19 BST

Once again, yesterday was forecast to be a nasty sort of day, and this time it was ! There was very little rain, as far as I can recall, but the sky ranged between very dull, and extremely dull, and dark, and depressing. The temperature for almost the whole day was just 18° C.
dull then very wet
The idea of full sunshine, as shown in the screenshot above, at 10am seemed a silly idea, and the latest revision now shows just sunny spells at 11am, and no full sunshine. Even an hour of sunny spells seems unlikely when I look up and see a dirty grey sky from horizon to horizon. Heavy rain is now predicted to start at midday, and it could continue non stop until, or beyond midnight. It is possible that the temperature might peak at 19° C mid morning, but nearly all the day will see only 18° C. The temperature starts to drop mid evening, and we could be in for a cold night. It could be no more than 13° C at 6am tomorrow. The rest of tomorrow could see a mix of sunny spells and light rain. I doubt we will get a better idea of tomorrow's weather until mid morning. What does seem likely is that the highest temperature tomorrow will be just 17° C.

I was not happy yesterday. I think I could describe myself as cheesed off for most of the day, and with the effect turned up to 10 towards the end of the day. That is despite doing a few useful things like some laundry, and transferring two recordings from cassette to mp3 files on my PC. I describe most of my day, night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Tuesday 19th September 2023
 07:31 BST

Yesterday was forecast to be a terrible day, but actually it was almost a nice day. There were no thunderstorms, and not much rain, and later in the afternoon there were sunny spells ! The most negative thing was that it was not very warm. The temperature peaked at around 19° C.
dull, but mostly dry
It is rather a cool, and very dull morning. By my reckoning it is around 14° C at the moment.  There may be an hour in the afternoon when the temperature reaches 19° C, but 18° C is basically the best we can hope for. There may be no sign at all of the sun today, but it may be dry - except for 3pm when some light rain may fall. Of course The BBC offer a fair bit of rain today - sometimes as drizzle, and sometime as light rain from 11am to 6pm. Tomorrow may start a little less cool than today, but they sky is still going to be a dirty grey until 1pm when light rain may fall. By 3pm it could change to heavy rain that will continue until, and possibly beyond, midnight.

I think I had a reasonably productive and satisfying day yesterday. It was another day when I started writing very late, and so finished quite late. That took care of a lot of the morning, but I still managed to squeeze in time for a shower, and to get to Tesco for some shopping by midday. There was other stuff I did yesterday, and it is all described, with pictures, in my complete archived page for today, and that includes some stuff about last night and this morning.
Monday 18th September 2023
 09:471 BST

The best thing about yesterday was that the afternoon rain did not last as long as forecast, although it mnay have been a little more than "!light rain" for a short period of time. The other almost good thing was the hazy sunny spells for a short time in the morning. They did not appear in the forecast. Overall it was a cool-ish day for most of the afternoon temperature peaking at 20° C.
more thunderstorms ?
The first significant thing about today's weather happened at just before 1am this morning. The sky was lit up by lightning flashes, but all the thunder seemed to be from some distance away (maybe 2 or 3 miles). This morning around 7 or 8am, we did have some weak sunny spells - as forecast, but they didn't last beyond 8am. The latest revision to the forecast has moved the forecast thunderstorms to just 11am and midday. There could be light rain at 2pm, and sunny spells at 3pm. There might be more sunny spells at 6 and 7pm after a light shower at 5pm. Of course all these fine details are certain to be wrong because the weather is in a state of flux. Today's high should be just 19° C, but now for only a couple of hours, and 18° C could be more representative of the day. There could be some strong winds for a few hours tomorrow, but it should be mostly dry, although rather dull for the whole day. The temperature may only rise to 18° C.

Apart from the dullness, and the rain, I think I can describe yesterday as another good day. Any major badness happened after midnight. More about that later.  I had initially forgotten that yesterday was a Sunday (despite writing at the head of the page), and so had forgotten that I would probably be expecting Jodie to come over in the afternoon for a beer drinking session. I did remember before I had finished writing yesterday morning. There is much more about my day, night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Sunday 17th September 2023
 09:41 BST

Yesterday was another day that was good enough to be a summers day. The temperature reached 25° C again, and the morning was sunny, as forecast, but a lot of the afternoon was sunny too, which was not forecast (at least not in the early versions of the forecast).
potentially a grim day
As I write tyhis the early version of the forecast says we should be transitioning to dark grey clouds. There are some around, but we have had some short, and rather weak and hazy sunny spells recently. The latest revision says light coloured clouds until 11am when the cloud will/might turn to mid grey, and then at 2pm we can expect dark clouds and the first falls of rain. The rain at 3pm could be quite heavy, but the rain may stop at 5pm, and by then the clouds could be white. There may be a few scattered showers later in the evening. The temperature may very briefly hit  21° C, but 20° C may be more representative for the afternoon. Of course The BBC have a different idea of today's weather. In particular, they say 2, 3. and 4pm could feature thunderstorms, and that the temperature could reach  21° C for 3 hours or more. The BBC's forecast for tomorrow includes thunderstorms (they love their thunderstorms) from 8am to 4pm ! The Met Office just shows light rain from 9am to 5pm. Bother forecasts almost agree the temperature will reach just 19° C tomorrow.

I think I can repeat: yesterday was yet another good day. Nothing really happened in the morning. Patricia did some work before taking a shower and washing her hair. I spent time writing yesterday's piece, and once the bathroom was clear I had a shower. My complete archived page for today has quite a few pictures to illustrate quite a long description of yesterday, last night and this morning.
Saturday 16th September 2023
 08:30 BST

It was like summer had resumed yesterday. The sky was often blue, the sun shined, and the temperature reached 25° C in the late afternoon. There were a few times when it clouded over and seemed dull outside. The only time that happened for more than a few minutes was around 3pm, and amazingly, that was when it was forecast to happen !
maybe only summer like in the first
                            half of the day
The latest revision to the forecast has pushed the last hour of sunshine to 3pm. By then the temperature should have reached a very warm 25° C. The BBC say sunshine all day, and give the maximum temperature at 26° C. There are two different predictions for tomorrow, but both include rain. The Met Office say light rain starts at 1pm, with one hour of heavier rain at 3pm followed by light rain until the end of the day. The BBC say drizzle at 1pm, heavy rain at 2pm, light rain at 3pm, thunderstorms for 4 and 5pm, then light rain into the late night. The temperature tomorrow may reach 21° C with a possible single hour at 22° C.

Yesterday was yet another good day.  Patricia didn't go to see her sister until the afternoon. She did a bit of work in the morning, and at lunchtime we went shopping in Poundland, and then crossed the road to the Catford Wetherspoons pub, The London And Rye. There are pictures of lunch, plus the usual description of my day, last night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Friday 15th September 2023
 08:31 BST

Yesterday was quite warm, and quite sunny. In fact it was like another summers day. The temperature hit 23° C in the late afternoon, but fell away a lot after dark.
sunshine and sunny spells
It was quite a cool start this morning with the temperature down to 14° C, but it should warm up to 24 or 25° C later this afternoon....although the latest revision to the forecast has reduced the hours of full sunshine. The latest revision almost alternates between sunshine and cloudy every hour. Only the first half of tomorrow may be sunny, but the temperature could still climb to a possible 25° C.

Yesterday was another good day, and it was also a very lazy day, particularly in the morning. It was nice to lay on my bed, with the sun streaming through the window, quietly reading, and even snoozing until midday. At midday, or thereabouts, I panicked when I realised I had to have a shower before I had guests here later. There are not many great details to add to that, but I did write more about yesterday, last night, and this morning in my complete archived page for today.
Thursday 14th September 2023
 07:30 BST

Yesterday was not as dull as the Met Office forecast predicted, and much of the day was fairly bright. There was even a scattering of sunny spells. It was feeling almost cool at just 20° C, but of course that is still warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt.
sunshine and sunny spells
By now we should be having sunny spells, but there is a thick bar of dark cloud across the eastern horizon where the sun is rising. Maybe we will get some sunny spells soon, and maybe a long period of full sunshine later. The BBC forecast is very optimistic with almost full sunshine shown for most of the day. The Met Office, as shown above, and hardly changed in the latest revision, is a bit more conservative. Assuming the sun finally manages to break through, we can expect 23° C today.  Tomorrow might possibly be even sunnier, and the temperature could hit 24 or 25° C (the BBC predict the higher figure).

Yesterday was quite a good day.  I took it slow and easy during the morning. It was getting on for midday when I had a shower, and washed my hair. It took a while before I cooled off after that, and it wasn't until I went out into the fresh air that I stopped feeling warm and sticky. The rest of my day, or at least the significant things, plus my night and this morning are described in my complete archived page for today.
Wednesday 13th September 2023
 08:45 BST

Neither the Met Office, or BBC, weather forecast came very close to reality yesterday. It was a generally dull day, but I think the sun found a way through the clouds for a very short time, once or twice. There was a modestly heavy fall of rain at about 9am, and more rain at about 6pm. So more rain that the Met Office predicted, and rather less rain than the BBC predicted (with thunderstorms !). The temperature rose to about 24° C according to my thermometers - a couple of degrees higher than forecast.
maybe a dry but dull day
By my reckoning the temperature at 8am was close to 16° C, and so not as cool as the forecast says. At the moment we are having a sunny spell, and that blows the Met Office forecast out of the window. Their latest revision has even taken away the single sunny spells at 3pm as shown above. The BBC forecast is more cheerful with sunny spells until 2pm, and more in the last couple of hours before sunset. The Met Office say a high of 20° C, but the BBC say 21° C. Both forecasters agree that tomorrow may feature many sunny spells, and an afternoon temperature of 23° C.

The general theme of yesterday was waiting - waiting for deliveries. I actually had 4 deliveries yesterday. Two deliveries were originally estimated to arrive today, and it was handy they arrived yesterday. One delivery came via Royal Mail - delivered by my usual postman who knows how to squeeze stuff through my small letter box. I have a few pictures of the deliveries, and a better description of them, my day, my night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today.
Tuesday 12th September 2023
 08:35 BST

Yesterday was quite cloudy. The sun occasionally popped out now and then because of gaps in the cloud. Although cloudy, it was still a moderately bright day, and it was still a warm day. The temperature was five degrees less than the highs we have had lately, but  25° C is still quite warm.
rain returns
I think the weather is in too much of a state of flux for any accurate forecasts for today. The Met Office just says it will be dull until 6pm when there may be a few hours of light rain. The BBC forecast almost got one thing right. They predicted drizzle at 9am, but it wasn't long after 8am that there was more than drizzle. It seemed to be slightly more than light rain. It seems to have stopped now, but maybe drizzle will fall at 9am. If the BBC forecast carries any more truth then the rain could start with a bang at 2pm when they forecast a thunderstorm. That could be followed by more rain, with a few thunderstorms thrown in for luck, until 10pm tonight. Both forecasters agree on 22° C today, but the BBC say 23° C for just a single hour at 3pm. Tomorrow may be dry but dry. The temperature could be no more than 20 or 21° C.

I am not sure why, but I find myself describing yesterday as a moderately good day.  It was a day where the most exciting thing was a shopping trip to Tesco. I only did a couple of other things, but the day seemed to race by with seemingly little time to do anything more. That isn't literally true, but it does almost feel like it was. The full description of yesterday, last night, and this morning can be read in my complete archived page for today.
Monday 11th September 2023
 08:35 BST

A lot of yesterday was mildly grey. At 4pm it actually looked like it might rain, and the BBC weather forecast page hastily scribbled in a 34% chance of rain for 4pm. It stayed dry. Most of the sunshine was in the morning, and in the last couple of hours before sunset. Maybe it was the lack of sunshine, or maybe the hot plume of air, that has brought some very high temperatures, is now moving on, but I don't think it quite reached the first forecast of 30° C, but it did seem to reach the later forecast of 29° C. It may have only been a difference of one degree, but it did feel a bit fresher yesterday (except in my bedroom where it was 30° C most of the day).
the start of cooler weather
The sky is still light grey, and the latest revision to the forecast now shows 9am as white cloud , although as I look out the window I see light grey still. The BBC forecast happily shows loads of sunshine, and the temperature rising to 26° C. The Met Office is a bit more realistic (probably), and shows just some sunny spells this morning, and in the early evening. It says today's maximum temperature may be just 24° C. At any other time that could feel warm, but after days of 30° C it will almost feel cold. Tomorrow may feature some sunny spells in the morning, but rain is forecast from mid afternoon. It may only reach 22° C tomorrow. The BBC agree with the sunny spells in the morning, and an afternoon at 22° C, but throw in a few of their beloved thunderstorms for mid afternoon.

I finally finished washing the bath towel, and two white t-shirts yesterday, but I split the job into two parts mid wash because it was obvious the towel would need many more rinses than the t-shirts. I did the t-shirts separately, and had them hanging up to dry. I then had a 20 minute break before giving the bath towel another 5 or 6 rinses before hanging it on the clothes horse to dry. It didn't seem like good drying weather outside. The rest of my day, night, and this morning, is described in my complete archived page for today.

Maybe it was just me, but as well as being a few degrees warmer than the day before, it fell much more sticky and uncomfortable. Perhaps just a degree or two extra, taking the temperature up to a peak of 32° C was enough to leave me a soggy mass of sweat every time I did anything requiring a bit of work - even just breathing !
another hot day, but maybe less
                            sunshine
As usual, the BBC weather forecast says it will be sunny nearly all day. The Met Office say a sunny morning, and a dull afternoon. The latest update says 11am will only feature clouds, and then there will be just 2 hours of sunny spells before it becomes dull again until early evening. Actually, in this case "dull" may mean bright but no actual sunshine). Despite the headline figure of 32° C, the maximum shown on the chart is now just 29° C. That could be at 2pm, and then it will cool off by a few degrees. It will still be a hot(ish) day. Tomorrow's headline icon is cloudy, but the current chart says that from 10am to sunset there will be sunny spells. The temperature may peak at 26° C, but generally tomorrow may be an almost cool feeling day.

Off to a very late start this morning. It is not because I got up late, although it was maybe half an hour later than usual, but it is more that I have put off writing this because I can't think what to say to make my day seem interesting. The fact is, I did very little yesterday because I felt too hot and sticky. What I did do, plus some other bits and pieces including about my night and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today.

Yesterday was another hot, but not very sunny day. The met Office, and not the BBC got the forecast about right. They predicted it would be a cloudy day with occasional sunny spells, and that was how it was. Despite little sunshine the temperature still rose to  29° C. It almost felt cooler than the day before, but the humidity left my skin feeling very damp and sticky.
back to almost full sunshine
There might be an odd hour when there are only sunny spells, but most of today will feature full sunshine. It could drive the temperature up to 31, or 32° C. Tomorrow could also see 31° C, but at the moment it is forecast to be a very different day. The morning may be bright and sunny, but a thunderstorm is possible at midday. The afternoon may be a bit dull. On the other hand, the BBC say tomorrow will feature sunshine all day with temperature peaking at 31° C.

With my bedroom still about 27° C from the previous day's heat, and the outside temperature predicted to rise to 29° C, I was once again in the mood to take the day cool and easy. That didn't fully happen, and I did do some useful work in between quietly reading and snoozing. It is all described along with the rest of my day, night, and the start of this morning in my complete archived page for today.

Yesterday was another hot and sunny day. The late afternoon temperature reached 31° C.
cloudy day....or not?
There is quite a strong difference of opinion about what today's weather will be. The BBC say today will feature sunrise to sunset strong sunshine. The early version of The Met Office's forecast is shown above. The next hourly revision reduced the sunny spells, but the very latest revision shows sunny spells for the whole day. At the moment there is a lot of cloud to be seen, and I am not sure if there has been any sunshine yet. The Met Office forecast 29° C today, and the BBC say 30° C.  Both forecasters currently agree that tomorrow is going to be very hot and sunny. The temperature could touch 32° C in the late afternoon.

Yesterday morning I complained of feeling something like, but not quite, tired or weary. With hindsight I think it was just the building heat that slowed me down. I can feel the same this morning. However, I did manage to do a few much needed chores yesterday. They, and the rest of my day, night, and this morning, are described in my complete archived page for today.

 08:40 BST

It was hot and sunny, after a brief time in the early morning before the sun burnt the misty cloud away. I am not sure if the temperature reached the forecast 31° C, but I know my bedroom was 30° C last night.
20230907.htmlanother hot sunny day
Unlike the last few days, the sky seemed clear at sunrise, and another sunny day started. The latest revision has slightly improved on the early screenshot above. 7pm is now shown as full sunshine instead of sunny spells. The Met Office say today the temperature  should rise to 30° C, but the BBC say only 29° C. Tomorrow could be exactly the same as today according to the BBC weather forecast, but the Met Office say there will be nothing more than sunny spells, and some hours will be cloudy, but they still think the temperature should reach 29° C.

I thought I slept well last night, but more about that later. This morning I feel sort of, but maybe not actually, tired. It is maybe just a weariness of the soul. More about that too, later. Yesterday was generally a good day, with everything achieved except managing to do both crosswords. Yesterday, last night, and this morning is fully described in my complete archived page for today.

 08:31 BST

It was an hour or two later that the rising sun burned off some misty clouds that made the early morning dull yesterday. once the sun broke through, the day turned into a proper sunny day with blue skies and copious sunshine. That raised the late afternoon temperature to 28° C.
a very hot summers day
After a fairly miserable summer the weather is doing it's best to make up for it now, and there may be another five days of high summer like weather. Once again the day didn't start clear, but once the sun had risen a bit higher the sky turned blue, and hot sunshine poured down. Today the temperature may reach 31° C! The only flaw in a perfect day is at 4pm. Originally shown as just sunny spells  for that hour, it has now been degraded to a cloudy hour with no sun. I think that translates to "we see a cloud heading your way, but we don't really know where it will cast it's shadow. Tomorrow's headline figure is 30° C, but no hour is shown as hotter than 29° C tomorrow despite there being full sunshine for all the daylight hours predicted/

Yesterday was a fairly relaxed day. I had a pretty good idea what I might do, and I knew there was no special rush to do anything, and although there was extra photo editing I could do, I could do the essentials at a fairly relaxed pace, and take several breaks, or have a snooze. I have loads of pictures that illustrate my day on Monday, and a description of my day yesterday, last night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today.

 08:40 BST

After a grey start, which was not forecast, the sun broke through at around 8.30am yesterday. From then one it was almost full sunshine until sunset. There was an occasional rather small cloud that might drift across the sun, and dim it for a minute or two, but in the grand scheme of things it was a very warm summers day. The temperature reached 28° C.
Another bright and very warm sunny
                            day.
Once again the sky looked a bit grey until about 8am. It was probably more high mist than cloud, and once the sun was high enough it quickly burnt away. The latest revision to the forecast shows only sunny spells for 9am, but the rest of the day is shown as non stop sunshine. It should raise the temperature to 28° C. The headline figure for tomorrow is 31° C, but the actual Met Office chart only shows 30° C. However the BBC do say 31° C. Both say strong sunshine all tomorrow. Summer seems to continue, and could continue until next Sunday....and maybe even later.

I feel tempted to describe yesterday as a good day, maybe even a great day, but in some respects I didn't enjoy it at the level I expected to. The "theme" of yesterday was going out, and I did indeed go out all the way to Southend-On-Sea by way of Southend Victoria station which I had never seen before. I have a few pictures to show of my day out, and a fulle description of the day, plus last night and this morning on my complete archived page for today.

 07:34 BST

Yesterday could have been mistaken for a summer's day when looking at the forecast, and on the whole it was, but now and then some thin clouds made the sunshine a bit hazy. The temperature reached a very respectable 25° C.
rather grey start
Both forecasters predicted this morning would be sunny, or at least feature sunny spells, but as I write this it is rather grey outside. I do note that the latest revision to the Met Office forecast has changed 8am to just sunny spells. Eventually the rising sun should "burn" off the clouds, we will should have glorious sunshine for the rest of the day. The temperature should reach 27° C, or 28° C if you believe the BBC (who still insist, contrary to the evidence of my eyes, that it is pure golden sunshine as I write this). Tomorrow is currently forecast to have solid sunshine from sunrise to sunset. Once again the temperature will rise to 27° C.....or maybe 28° C in BBC land.

I was beginning to feel like I had a bit more energy yesterday, but I still wasn't looking forward to another day of sitting at my PC selecting and editing photos - so I didn't. However I did do a little bit of manual labour. By hand washing three t-shirts, and, once again, some underwear, I got my laundry basket empty except for one hand towel that deserves a long soak in bio detergent before washing. Most of what I finally did yesterday, last night, and the start of this morning, is described in my full archived page for today.
Sunday 3rd September 2023
 09:25 BST

Yesterday's weather included a scattering of sunny spells, with most being in the afternoon, and at other times it was still bright cloud. The temperature reached 23° C, and for some reason I can't give a rational explanation for, I think it might have been a degree or two higher.
loads of sunshine
There are some thin clouds around that occasionally make the sunshine a little hazy, but it seems too have been sunny since I woke up, and it remains so now. The latest revision to the forecast shows full sunshine from midday to sunset, with just 6pm shown as sunny spells. It would seem that 25° C is a concrete prediction. Tomorrow is also predicted to feature almost pure sunshine form morning to sunset. Both forecasters agree on this, and both predict a high of 27° C.  It seems summer is back for about a week, with 29° C possible for next Wednesday.

Yesterday was nothing like I expected. I was still feeling tired, or at least I thought I did, but maybe it was just a reaction against all the photo selecting and editing I had to do. A week after taking the pictures they were feeling sort of stale, plus I had some trouble with getting the exposure right on many photographs. The full details of all the significant parts of my day, night, and this morning are all describes, with pictures in my complete archived page for today.
Saturday 2nd September 2023
 09:32 BST

Yesterday's weather forecast was completely wrong. There were indeed some dark and heavy clouds in the morning. In fact rather more than forecast, and it most definitely did not stay dry. For most of the morning we had some very heavy rain ! The afternoon started bright with sunny spells, but I don't think it lasted much longer than an hour before it became overcast again. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to think there was at least one shower sometime in the afternoon. On the plus side it was a bit warmer with the temperature reaching 23° C.
a few sunny spells
Today should also see 23° C in the afternoon, but a lot of today may be cloudy. On the other hand, there should be some sunny spells, and I would suggest that the way the timing for them changes, there might possibly be more than the 5 different hours shown in the early forecast above. Both the BBC and The Met Office can't seem to give a definite time for sunny spells. The chances of rain seem very slim today. Tomorrow could see a lot of sunshine, plus sunny spells, and it sees a return to something closer to Summer with 25° C predicted.

I finally started to return to normal yesterday, although I didn't really get productive until mid afternoon. Yesterday morning's unexpected heavy rain dampened my spirits, and I felt very lazy during the morning. It was probably getting on for 1pm when I had a quick shower, and also started soaking a bit of laundry. All the significant details of yesterday's productivity, with a few sample pictures, can be read in my complete archive page for today. It also includes a few words about last night and this morning.

 08:46 BST

Yesterday could be described as a rather bland day. Originally a lot of rain was forecast for the middle of the day, and none was forecast for the morning, and yet there was some light rain in the morning, and possibly none in the afternoon. I'm desperately trying to be optimistic when I say I think I remember a sunny spell or two - none were forecast. The temperature only reached 16° C, and yet it didn't seem to feel any worse than mildly cool.
some rain today
The early version of the forecast said this morning would not feature rain. That was obviously wrong because the road outside was wet when I opened the curtains soon after 7am. The latest revision to the forecast shows heavy rain for 9 and 10am. That might be followed by 4 hours of white cloud, and then two hours of sunny spells for 3 and 4pm. From 5pm there could be three hours of light rain. After such a drastic change to the forecast in just a couple of hours, it is almost certain that the forecasters don't have a clue, and later forecasts will show more drastic changes. The temperature forecast is usually correct, and so today should see 22° C this afternoon. Tomorrow might start a bit grey, but later there could be a scattering of sunny spells. The temperature probably will rise to 23° C.

I felt really tired yesterday. I guess I have been burning the candle from both ends recently. I still had a lot of things to do, but I adopted a very lazy mode for some chunks of yesterday. I was interrupted a lot by Patricia as I was writing this diary/blog thing yesterday, but that was just about OK. My full description of today, with some pictures, plus some detail from my night, and this morning, can be seen in my complete archived page for today.
