Yesterday was not as wet as expected.
There were long gaps in the rainfall during
the morning, and the afternoon was almost
dry except for a few brief passing showers.
However, that was a lot of rain late in the
night, and through the night to continue
today. The afternoon reached 15° C, and
maybe a little higher.
The morning rain has been on and
off, but if the forecast is correct it
should finish soon. From 11am there were
supposed to be sunny spells, but the
latest revision says sunny spells at only
11am and 2pm. The other hours should be
dry and bright until the rain starts up
again at 6pm. The temperature should rise
to 20° C. Tomorrow should be dry and
bright, but early morning and late evening
could see the temperature down to just 9°
C. The afternoon temperature may be no
more than 13° C. There could be a lot of
sunny days in the near future, but they
will be quite cool days.
Yesterday was another quite
good day. The late morning featured a
shopping trip to Tesco where, as usual, I
tried to be careful about what I bought
(i.e. low sugar content), and as usual, I
ended up buying a couple of things that
were a bit dubious, and also as usual,
they came from the reduced price shelf !
One possibly dubious thing I bought
had a big Clubcard on it, and it was a
packet of (alleged) extra cheesy corn puff
type things. I haven't tried them yet, and
I just hope they don't turn out to be a
disappointment (although I fear they will
be). What was a disappointment was a pack
of 6 "Chinese style", duck flavour, spring
rolls. I found them with a half price
sticker on, and I had them for my lunch.
They had the potential to be nice, but
they tasted like they had been cooked in
old chip fat or something.
Yesterday afternoon was when I
could reveal my latest beer purchases to
Jodie and Michael. Michael was typically
underwhelmed, although I think he liked a
couple of the new beers. Jodie actually
displayed some strong enthusiasm for at
least one beer. She was surprised by a
couple of the beers because they had only
recently been released. Of course she had
rushed to one of her favourite beer
emporiums, to taste them as soon as she
could. That means she is no longer
interested in them ! I did manage to find
a couple of beers from breweries she has
never heard of. So that is something.
I managed to get pleasantly drunk,
and that was strongly helped along by the
last beer we opened. it was the beer Jodie
was very excited about. I think it was
from the Omnipollo micro brewery in Sweden
(
https://omnipollo.com/pages/about
- this doesn't open properly in my simple
web browser, but should on others). It was
a very strong, 10% or more, dark porter
style beer with a sweet and chocolatey
taste. In an ideal world we would have had
one 330ml bottle each !
After Jodie and Michael left I
turned on the TV (actually an app on my
PC) for my usual weekday evening dose of
Star Treks, and because it was gone 6pm, I
started on my dinner. It was quite a
simple diced beef and sprouts stew
flavoured with some dry chilli flakes.
Maybe "some" is an understatement, and
that could possibly be significant. I was
not sure how hot those dried chilli flakes
were supposed to be. They didn't seem
anything more than slightly warm, but it
is possible they had another effect on me,
or more specifically, my digestive system.
I remember washing dinner down with
a large vodka and diet coke, and that got
me a bit drunker. I have a vague memory of
deciding to have a pair of Tesco "Finest"
Scotch Eggs as a sort of dessert. It is
possible I dreamed it, but it's unlikely.
I haven't dared check the fridge to see if
I really did it. The rest of the evening
is very vague now, but I think I was fast
asleep in bed by, and possibly before 9pm.
For at least 4 hours I was dead to
the world until I got up for a pee. I
think it took a while before I fell asleep
again, but I woke up again just before
3am, and I am unsure if I got any sleep at
all after that. There didn't seem to be
any special reason why I couldn't sleep
apart from a very vague feeling of
discomfort. Some of the aches were just
the usual things like right shoulder and
elbow, but there was something I couldn't
really pinpoint.
It was when I finally gave up
trying to sleep, and got up, that I had a
strong indicator of where the discomfort
was coming from. It is possible those
dried chilli flakes had a laxative effect,
although it might have been those duck
spring rolls. I did mention the odd taste
they had, although it didn't seem to be an
"off" taste. To cut a long story short, in
two sessions, little more than 10 minutes
apart, I seemed to empty half my digestive
tract. It was all perfectly formed, but
there was an awful lot of it. 20 to 30
minutes later I emptied another quarter of
my digestive tract. I seem to feel
comfortable now - I think !
I suppose after all my excesses
yesterday, my blood glucose readings were
quite good, although only in relative
terms. The actual readings were 9.0, 9.1,
and 9.3mmol/l. Readings above 9 are a
warning to be careful. The only good thing
is they are only just over 9, with a fair
margin from the red line at 10.0mmol/l.
Tonight I am going to have something very
safe that will probably be stewed chicken
and cauliflower. I shall try not to add a
dessert to that. I don't feel enthusiastic
enough to skip lunch, but I'll try for
something relatively safe.
I have already done the most
important thing today. I have rung the
pharmacy, and ordered my next repeat
prescription. I meant to do it at the
start of this week instead of at the end.
My current drugs run out on Monday, but
with luck I will be picking up the new
prescription late on Monday afternoon, and
I can continue to keep taking the pills
with no interruption. It will still be OK
if I don't get the new pills until Tuesday
afternoon.
I don't have any idea what I shall
do for the rest of the day beyond probably
snoozing a lot to catch up on last sleep.
I did have a mad idea that I might have a
walk in the afternoon sunshine, but the
weather forecast was revised to say there
might not be any sunshine. The very latest
revision has gone back to saying the
afternoon may feature sunny spells again.
The fly in the ointment is that the BBC
forecast only give a three hour window
between rain showers. It seems likely that
the weather is in a state of flux, and
every hour will see a different prediction
to today's weather. I think it would be
safer to stay in, although quick
visit to the shops might be possible.
