Yesterday was very dull. There
was rain in the morning, and again late in
the evening. There may have been a brief
light shower at other times, but they would
be difficult to spot without staring out the
windows all day ! I don't recall seeing a
single ray of sunshine. On top of all that
it was a cold day with a maximum of just 9°
C, although as midnight appraoched it
actually warmed up by a degree or two.
It was definitely almost mild this
morning, but my measurements suggested it
was only 12.5° C instead of 13° C. In
maybe another half hour it could be over
14° C. While it may be nice having a mild
morning, the price of it is the moist and
warm air is shedding all it's moisture as
a lot of rain this morning. The latest
version of the forecast suggests there
should be hints of sunshine during some
heavy rain at 10am, and full sunshine at
11am. The rest of the day will be bright
with more sunshine or sunny spells, but
paradoxically it will be
cooling down.
The peak temperature of 15° C will be at 9
and 10am. The temperature at 3pm, and for
a few hours before and after that, will be
14° C. Most of the daylight hours tomorrow
may be 12° C, but for half or more of
those hours there could be light rain.
Yesterday I reverted to
intensive resting and laziness to help the
healing process of all my injuries -
mostly just bruises and scrapes, but I am
still not completely sure I didn't break a
bone in my "tail area". The short version
of today's stuff is that I did seem to
heal further.
The long story is.....well, there
isn't really one because I really did so
very little yesterday. The gloom filtering
through my windows took away any desire to
do much else. The one thing I did do was a
bit of washing up, and a bit of cooking in
the kitchen, although heating up a can of
soup is hardly cooking. On the other hand,
I did most definitely cook some
beefburger. Of course the timer in my mini
oven/grill did most of the work.
After my lunchtime "chunky
vegetables and lamb" soup I did have a few
small snacks in the afternoon. Possibly
the biggest snack was some ready sliced
Gouda cheese on sugar free oat biscuits.
It is a shame that I put those oat
biscuits in an airtight container, and
threw away the box they came in, because I
would like to double check they are
actually "sugar free" or just "no added
sugar". I fear the latter may be the
truth.
My dinner was an almost healthy 4
beef burgers served on a pile of white
onion and red cabbage "salad". It was a
sort of variation on a home made shish
kebab, and seemed very nice with one
caveat. The white onion that has been in
the last two helpings of "salad" (last
night and the night before) is rather
powerful, and maybe the lingering after
taste gets a bit annoying. I still have
half that big white onion to use up before
I start on the milder red onions I have
ready for use.
I checked from mid afternoon what
was on TV, and I couldn't see anything for
the rest of the day I would go out my way
to watch. I still wanted some
entertainment, and resorted to old
recordings. I started with the first
episode of the final series of Black
Adder. It was good, but after all these
years still very predictable. After that I
thought I would watch a few old episodes
of The Avengers (the real ones, not the
cheap American Avengers).
It was during that time I made two
discoveries. One was that if I became a
bit to relaxed, and allowed myself to slip
forward, and slouch while watching, it
really made my tail area hurt - a lot for
one moment ! Until then I had suffered
very little pain during the day. My
bruised shoulder didn't seem to hurt at
all, and my bruised right hip was mostly
unnoticeable except when trying to
rest/sleep on that side. My bruised (or
possibly broken/cracked) Coccyx, on the
other hand was a simmering volcano just
waiting to explode is provoked in the
wrong way. Fortunately changing my pose to
sitting upright again allowed it to simmer
down, and be almost, but never, forgotten.
The other discovery was that many
of my old recordings of The Avengers were
poorly encoded to avi files. In some
instances the sound would be out of sync,
and in more cases a small disturbance
would make the picture break up, and take
a few seconds to recover. I tried
re-encoding the worst files using
Handbrake,
and it worked really well to correct the
coding errors.
I took the precaution of taking a
couple of Paracetamol tablets, and also a
couple of Ibuprofen tablets before going
to bed. The former to dull any pain, and
the letter to help reduce any inflammation
before it produces pain (both
"hopefully"). I think they worked really
well because I did sleep extremely well. I
don't remember any period of insomnia, and
I don't think I remember waking up more
than once or twice in the night for a pee.
The latter may have been significant. I
think I may have woken up for just long
enough to check the clock, and then fall
asleep instantly afterwards, but maybe
those are false memories, perhaps dreams.
I did have what seemed like a very
long dream, but there were jumps in the
action which suggests it was a series of
shorter dreams. It is hard to describe it
all, but a few snapshots might be
explainable. It was another dream (series)
based upon being back at college. It
included the idea (based on fact from one
or two places I have been) where the top
stories of rooms are not linked, and you
have to use the right staircase to get to
them. There was also a tunnel between two
adjacent buildings that was usually only
used in wet weather.
In the dream that tunnel emerged
not in the adjacent building, but in a
sort of market square, or retail area. My
memory is too vague to say which it was.
At some point the dream jumped to a sort
of square at the top of a gentle slope
that had a selection of shops around it. I
wanted to buy some cigarettes, and I
wondered where I could buy them. I turned
around and found a newsagents and Post
Office right behind me. I went in, and the
Post Office counters were stripped bare (a
sign of the times !).
The other side of the shop still
had stuff, but mysteriously there were
several railway platforms in the way. It
was either the case of going around the
trains, or going through, from side to
side, the trains and hoping the doors
didn't shut while going through the train.
I opted to go around the end of the
trains/platforms. I remember catching full
sight of the shop counters then, but I
don't recall buying anything. The
rest of my dream(s) are only remembered as
sort of snapshots, and are probably
pointless trying to describe.
I think it was at 5am that I woke
up feeling slightly cool because I had
partly kicked off the duvet. I got out of
bed just long enough to turn the heater
up, and then got back into bed, and
quickly fell asleep again. I didn't even
bother to go for a pee. I do remember
going for what seemed like a huge pee
quite early in my sleep, probably before
midnight, but I peed very little after
that. The significance is that it could
signify a low blood glucose.
Sadly it didn't, or at least not a
very low reading. Once again I found my
new Sino Care, cheap knock off copy of a
blood glucose meter, gave a reading much
higher than the other two meters. it gave
a very dangerous reading of 10.2mmol/l.
That was the second or more times that
it's reading was very different to the
other two. They said 8.3mmol/l on the
Nexus meter, and 8.8mmol/l on the contour
meter. That is still quite a spread of
readings !
After taking those readings I took
my morning pills, and then went down to
get my breakfast of tomato flavour instant
noodles. While doing that my mind was
considering possibilities about the rogue
reading on the Sino Care meter. I wondered
if the batteries in it were failing,
although it does have a battery icon on
the display. Once back in my bedroom I put
two fresh AAA batteries in the meter, and
took another reading. This time it said
9.0mmol/l, and that was sufficiently close
to the 8.8mmol/l reading on the contour
meter. It seems that Sino Care meter is
more sensitive to battery voltage than it
seems. Curiously, my battery tester said
the old batteries were still well charged.
It's all a bit of a mystery.
Somewhat earlier than expected, the
sun is already trying to break through the
clouds. It makes it feel likely that we
will get the sunshine and sunny spells
later that the forecast promises. I am
unsure if that will tempt me to go out
today. There is nothing I urgently need,
but there are a few things it might be
useful to stock up from Poundstretcher. On
the other hand, a short walk around the
park might be nice. It would be
round the local park where there are many
opportunities to loop back if it became
too much.
While stretching my legs would be
good in some respect, I am very mindful
that going out shopping to tesco was quite
a set back to my healing. My "tail area"
was quite painful after that shopping
trip, and it took the whole of the rest of
the day, plus all of yesterday to get back
to where I was. Maybe the extra rest
yesterday has actually improved things,
but not fully cured my wounds. it is
tempting to use that as an excuse for
another day of intensive laziness, but
yesterday was starting to get a bit
boring. On the other hand, I have often
said that Sunday is the worst day of the
week because it is a very boring day !
