Yesterday started with some
quite heavy rain, but the clouds thinned and
faded towards the end of the morning, and
the rest of the day was bright with either
sunshine or sunny spells. It was a very
slightly warmer day than recently with the
afternoon temperature reaching 14° C.
Both forecasters are giving dire
warnings of thunderstorms today, but
neither say when they might occur. The BBC
say light rain between midday and 2pm, and
The Met Office say heavy rain at midday
followed by light rain at 1pm. Other than
that, both forecasters say it will be dry,
and even suggest a few sunny spells.
Today's temperature will peak in just a
few hours time when it will reach 13° C
for a few hours before it slowly falls to
10° C at the end of the day. Tomorrow
could be very sunny, but only 11° C.
Yesterday was yet another day
when very little happened. For a while I
was tempted to go out, but in the end I
stayed in and did very little except
playing with a couple of cameras, and
doing some maintenance of a few camera
accessories. It all started when I tried
to take a picture of the still rather
feint bruise on my upper right arm.
I did take a picture of the bruise,
but the bruise stubbornly refuses to look
as tender as it feels (or felt). I think
it will soon fade away, and it will never
have gone through the purple and yellow
stage. To take the picture I was using my
mobile phone on a selfie stick mounted
on a mini tripod. To take the
picture I used my little handheld
bluetooth device as a remote shutter
control.
That little device is handy on
occasion, but I wondered what I might do
if I wanted to use one of my big DSLR
cameras. I do have a wired remote shutter
button that works on my Canon DSLR
cameras, but I thought a wireless device
might be good. I couldn't find a very
simple Bluetooth transmitter and receiver,
but I did find a slightly more
sophisticated (where "sophisticated" is
almost over the top) device on Amazon.
It was £29, and that is not
too
bad for a toy that will only have a few
uses in it's life......or will it ? It
could be useful for wildlife photography.
There were times when I had my bird table
well stocked (until I realised rats were
eating most of it) I did think it would be
useful to have the camera on a tripod
looking at the bird table while I operated
the shutter from indoors.
While I was looking at my cameras I
also looked at a few accessories. I once
bought, but on use on the rarest of
occasions, a couple of GPS receivers for
my Nikon and Canon cameras. It is rare
that I don't know where I am taking a
picture, and so they get very little use.
However it feels a good idea to make sure
the lithium batteries are kept charged,
possibly to keep them ready for use, but
mostly because if lithium batteries
discharge too much they can refuse to
charge.
The final things I played with were
my flashguns. I have two that can be
triggered remotely from a device that sits
on the camera. On occasion I have use one
for very good effect. I once used both,
and that produced very good results. The
big problem is finding somewhere safe to
place the remote flash guns - somewhere
where they won't be trampled on by the
audience.
One thing I was only remotely aware
of was that the power of the flash can be
controlled from the remote transmitter. I
had a little play with that, and I have
probably learned how to do that for future
use......although when I think back, I
feel sure I have often done that anyway.
Maybe it is the reverse, setting the power
on the flash gun itself that I rarely use.
The time when it would be useful would be
when using two flash guns - one for main
light, and the other at less power as fill
in light. The only flaw in all this is
that the opportunities to do more
"advanced" stuff like this are so rare. I
need a big studio and horde of nude
models......or something.
The only other thing I did
yesterday was like the day before when I
did a bit of washing up, and a bit of
cookery. At lunchtime I made a rather big
snack of two cheese sandwiches with onion
and cabbage "salad" in them. My dinner was
Tesco "Finest" (but reduced price) pork
belly strips on a bed of white cabbage and
white onion. I think I over did the
quantity of cabbage, and maybe the onion
as well. Oh well, it is all healthy
raw vegetables and very safe...or was it ?
I spent the evening watching TV -
two and a half lots of Star Trek. The
"half" was because Deep Space Nine didn't
seem as entertaining at a half hour
episode of The Simpsons on Channel 4. Star
Trek: Voyager was, I think one of the
better episodes because it feature not one
but two Q. One Q was the one we
became very familiar with on Star
Trek: The New Generation. It could have
been good but for the simpering, social
worker like voice, of Captain Janeway.
After Star Trek: Voyager I watched
an episode of "Abandoned Engineering". It
had it's moments, but was not a good
episode. I went to bed straight after, but
I read for another half an hour to finish
reading the book I was reading -
Frankenstein Unbound. A lot of the book
was a good read, but the ending just fell
flat as if the author, Brian Aldiss, had
run out of ideas.
I am happy to say that I had
another good sleep last night. I cannot
recall any periods of insomnia, and I
didn't seem to need to get up to pee more
than twice...or was it three times. I
remember having some enjoyable dreams, but
just as I was about to describe them all
the details seem to have faded. I think
one involved a pub, but I just can't seem
to recall any details. Oh well, they
probably weren't very interesting unless
you were in them.
I took extra care this morning when
checking my blood glucose readings, and I
did get a better grouping of figures. They
were all annoyingly high ! The best was
9.1mmol/l on my Nexus meter. That is too
high. The other two meters gave even
higher readings of 9.6mmol/l and
9.8mmol/l. Both are far too high, and
while below the red line (10.0) are in the
region where bad things could happen. I
have to assume that my continued healing
must account for some of it, but apart
from continued, but fading, soreness in my
tail area, most other injuries have faded
away - almost.
It make me wonder if that white
onion I have been using for several days
now has a lot of sugar in it. Sugar does
accumulate in root vegetables, and that
white onion was as big as a big orange, or
even a grapefruit. That is why it has
lasted so long, but now I wonder if it
could be the source of the mystery sugar.
I still have almost a quarter of it still
too use, and maybe I'll use it more
sparingly today. That would probably be a
good idea for no better reason than the
very strong onion taste it leaves lurking
in my mouth.
This morning I have decided to skip
breakfast because of those high readings.
At around midday I'll check the readings
again, and if they have gone down enough I
will have a light lunch. Today, although I
expect it will be mid afternoon, after the
rain, I will see if I feel like going out
shopping. I could survive for another day
or three days, but I am getting low on a
lot of stuff, and maybe it would be a good
time to go shopping in Aldi.
