Yesterday was horrible ! The morning was very wet, and the rain continued almost to the end of the afternoon, although the last hours were only light rain. It was also a very cool day. The morning started at 12 or 13° C, but it fell to just 6° C by the end of the night.
sunny start
As per the forecast, today has started off with some sunshine. Sadly it may finish at 10am, but it is better than nothing. The rest of the day will be dominated by light coloured cloud, but a few hours may see heavier cloud. There is only a 10% chance of rain, and in all probability today should be a dry day. From 1pm until beyond the end of the day, the temperature will be just 10° C. Tomorrow will be mostly light and medium grey, and  there could be showers in the middle of the day. It could be 12° C.

Yesterday was a bloody miserable day, and it was all the fault of the appalling weather. Of course there were a few good things regardless of the weather, but very few. In fact, to some extent, the morning wasn't too bad, even when I went out in that terrible cold, grey and wet weather.

I was determined to go shopping, and so I washed my hair and had a shower in the late morning. Once I was nice and clean, and deodourised, I put on my hooded raincoat, grabbed my rucksack, and went shopping in Tesco. I think everything I bought was healthy enough except for a bag of "skin on" oven chips, but even they seem safe in terms of my blood glucose readings even if they are very fattening (probably).

I was saved from being tempted to buy anything not so good because I knew that once I got home I was going to have a very nice, and very unhealthy lunch. That lunch was a bit like a pizza using a large nan bread. I loosely covered the nan with some thinly sliced ham, and then loosely covered that with sliced of mature cheddar. I made it slightly more pizza-like by sprinkling ready mixed "pizza flavour" herbs and spices. I also put some slices of red onion on it. It was very unhealthy, and very delicious.

I don't think I did anything else for the whole afternoon. I didn't even have to stir myself to make dinner - that was curry from the Indian takeaway the previous night. I must confess that I ate both main courses, but only one portion of pilau rice. The first was so nice that I couldn't resist the second. that, and my lunch would have consequences, although only slightly terrible !

I watched an awful lot of TV last night. There were the usual three Star Treks. Then there was an episode of Thunderbirds. I followed that with QI, and two episodes of Have I Got News For You. The last finished at midnight, and I went straight to bed as soon as it finished. It then read for about 10 minutes, and that conveniently brought me to the end of a chapter. It then took about 10 minutes to fall into quite a deep sleep.

A little earlier there were two things I did to relieve pain both real, and in the mind. It was not that long after dinner that I thought I would give the 46% Welsh whisky another go. The first time I tried it, it seemed a bit harsh, but last night it seemed quite good. That helped dampen some of the mental effects of the bad weather, and maybe some of the physical effects. A couple of Paracetamol tablets taken about half an hour before going to bed helped to calm some real physical pains.

I have to admit that after watching so much TV while sitting in an old swivel office chair, I was getting all sorts of aches - mostly my right should, elbow and wrist, but before I stopped I was getting some aches from the left arm too. The pains in my right arm could probably be treated in some way. The shoulder pain is possibly a torn ligament that happened years ago. There is probably no treatment beyond painkillers for that. I'm sure the elbow is a legacy of a dislocation that took months to pop back in. A steroid injection direct into the joint might help that. The wrist pain is either reperative strain injury and/or a carpal tunnel problem. Surgery might help that, but I suspect it would be too hard to even see a doctor, and even harder to find one sympathetic enough to want to try and help beyond prescribing Paracetamol.

I would later find that my blood glucose is high this morning, but the funny thing is that I can't recall peeing much in the night. If anything I peed less than usual. As I said a paragraph of two back I seemed  to sleep quite deeply, but I still had a lot of dreams. My memory of most of them is now too fragmented to write about, but one, or probably series of dreams left some memories.

The dream seemed to start in a pub beer garden. From the seating area it looked like the garden ended with a cliff, but closer examination showed a moderately steep slope. There were sort of concave holes in the slope, and it looked like there was something written in them. The only way to see what the writing might be was to walk down the slope to look up at them.

At the bottom of the slope was a garden with several trees in it. Each tree had a light in it that needed to be taken down. Several people I know where there with step ladders, and in one case what looked like a large photographers tripod. It was not easy to see how a woman was climbing that to get a light down. There seemed to be a nosy neighbour looking over the fence and so I decided to go indoors again. There was no steep slope now, and I walked straight into a large living room.

That living room seemed to be in a very posh house, but I felt quite comfortable. I don't think I actually saw her, but it seemed like I was there with a girlfriend, and her father. Her mother popped in for a few minutes, and said she was going to the pub, and "did anyone want to go with her, or should she bring a few pints back". The father, with me in complete agreement, said yes to bringing some beers back, but we were watching some sort of movie on the TV.

The TV movie seemed to be about an astronaut, or maybe a spy, whose physical condition had slipped, and he was sent to a health farm (or gym). So far so uninteresting until the interior views which showed scantily clad beauties doing exercises. That seem worth watching. Of course after a minute or two I woke up. I desperately tried to get back to sleep again to try and get more titillation out of the dream, or even the promised beer....

I never did get back to sleep again, and after a quick pee, I checked my blood glucose readings. They were high, but only one meter gave a seriously high reading. It was the new Vivachek meter that read a very bad 10.3mmol/l.  The Contour meter gave the lowest reading of 8.8mmol/l. The other two gave 9.1mmol/l (GlucoRX) and 9.9mmol/l (Sino Care). Even 8.8mmol/l is a bit higher than desirable, but all the others dictate that i really have to be careful what I eat today.

Today I shall be going to The Jolly Farmers for several pints of Guinness. It could be even more because I think I shall be joined by Kevin. If Angela is ever going to join me in the pub it could be today, being the last Wednesday before Xmas. It is very unlikely we'll see her, but fingers crossed. Anyway, I don't want to drink on an empty stomach, and so I have at least had a single portion of instant noodles for breakfast. I may have something else before I go out if there is time. It is when I get home, feeling some or more drunk that I will need to keep my wits about me when I enter the kitchen !
