Yesterday was forecast to
be the most disgustingly horrible
day, but it was not quite that
bad. The morning was very wet, and
very dull, but while it didn't
brighten up enough to let any sun
through, it almost did. There were
some random passing light showers
in the afternoon, but a lot of the
time it was dry. A very early
version of the forecast predicted
15° C, but later on it was revised
to about 13° C, and that was about
the best we got.
Both forecasters broadly
agree that this morning will be
very sunny, and that there will
be a few hours in the early
afternoon when it will cloud
over. The sunsshould break
through again for a few hours in
the early evening. It should be
a nice warm day. The BBC predict
a high of 19° C, and the met
Office predict a high of 20° C.
Tomorrow, according to the BBC
should be sunny all day, and the
temperature might reach 20° C,
but The Met Office say all the
sunny spells will be in the
afternoon, and the temperature
will only reach 19° C - which is
still very good.
Yesterday was a
pretty miserable sort of day -
thank you crap weather ! On the
other hand it was a great day to
catch up on missed sleep by
snoozing whenever I felt like
it. In theory this means there
is very little to write about
yesterday, but maybe there are a
few notes about the day that I
can make.
One thing I thought I
might be proud off was how I
limited my eating on a day with
almost no distractions from
eating. I started the day with
instant noodles, as usual, but I
didn't have a double portion of
one of the bigger packets. I did
have a double portion of one of
the smallest, 58gm, packets. I
then held out until around 1pm
when I had some ready to eat,
sliced BBQ chicken with some
tortilla chips.
Shortly before
dinnertime, at around 6pm, I did
a single reading of my blood
glucose level. I used the
Contour meter, which is usually
very reliable, and it read
8.4mmol/l. I had hoped it might
be a bit lower, but it was
probably about right considering
I had spent a very sedate day. I
used that figure to allow myself
a very small luxury....sort of.
My dinner was two cans of soup,
and both contained a fair bit
more than the standard of 0.8gm
of sugar in Tesco cream of
chicken soup.
I think one can contained
2.3gm per half a can, and the
other was 2.8gm per half a can.
Those figures may seem high
compared to the Tesco chicken
soup, but they are very low
compared to, for instance, Heinz
cream of tomato soup which
probably has ten times the
amount of sugar in it. At least
the soups I ate didn't contain
many calories, and I think my
entire calorie intake for the
day was lower than usual.
Apart from adding that I
did a fair bit of reading
yesterday, both from a book, and
from the internet, I think I
have covered the whole day up
until the evening, and even then
I can just about cover that by
saying I watched an episode of
Secrets Of The London
Underground on live TV last
night. I am unsure what time I
went to bed, but I do know I
spent quite some time reading in
bed.
One thing I didn't suffer
from last night was any acid
reflux after only eating two
cans of soup for dinner. When
the time came, I turned out the
light, turned over, and pretty
soon I was fast asleep. As
far as I can remember, I slept
really well last night. I can
only remember getting up to pee
twice, but it could have been
more because I can barely
remember the two times I am sure
I went for a pee. The last time
was more notable because I
turned the heater on full, and I
was soon sleeping deeply again,
and after waking at 6am I turned
over and then slept on until
7am.
I have a very foggy idea
that I might have had quite a
few dreams, but I only remember
what one was about, and a
fraction of another. One or more
dreams were about what happens
next in the book I am reading.
It is possible I was not
actually dreaming, but thinking
about what I can remember from
the last time I read the book
during a period of wakefulness.
The one tiny bit of dream I do
remember was about walking
towards the Tesco in Catford,
and bumping into a friends wife
(as she was in the 1980s). She
asked "how did the pictures come
out ?", and I replied they were
good. That was the dream in it's
entirety as fas as I can recall.
I was hoping for better,
as in lower, blood glucose
readings this morning. In
conventional terms they were
very acceptable, but I have
raised my expectations over the
last few months. The really
great thing was the very tight
grouping. Both the Contour, and
GlucoRX meters read 8.3mmol/l,
and the Sinocare meter read
8.2mmol/l. I was hoping I might
have lost at least a few
grammes, and maybe I have, but
my scales only read in
increments of 100gm, and
basically nothing has changed.
It is already 14° C, and
it is very sunny. It is going to
get warmer still, and the
sunshine should continue a
little way into the afternoon. I
think I have to go out today.
There are no trains today
because of a rail strike, and so
I am reduced to walking. I think
I'll just be walking towards
Sydenham, probably just as far
as the bow string bridge in the
Linear Park. That is about 3
miles, and is probably about the
best I can manage right now (and
it will have to include many
stops to get my breath back/take
photos). Sunny day may be
getting more frequent now, and
maybe I will slowly get back
into shape for some longer walks
with angina being the limiting
factor instead of aching legs.
