Yesterday was another warm
and sunny day, but not quite as
warm as the previous day. I think
the temperature peaked at 19° C
instead of 20° C.
It is only in the last 10
or 15 minutes that the sun has
finally burned it's way through
a misty looking sky, but the
temperature has already reached
14° C. It is possible we may
lose the full sunshine by 6pm,
but that is plenty of time for
the sun to really raise the
temperature. Both forecasters
agree that this afternoon should
reach 22° C. The BBC thinks that
tomorrow may be very similar to
today, but the Met Office say
there will only be occasion
sunny spells. Both still agree
that the temperature should
still rise to 22° C again.
Yesterday should
have been a great day, but it
didn't get off to a great start
when I found my blood glucose
was dangerously high, and after
that there were many
disappointments. Fortunately
there were a few, rather minor,
good things too.
The most newsworthy
thing about yesterday is that
for the first time since the
start of last autumn, I went
out out in a pair of shorts !!
One very good thing is
that once I had woken up, and
started moving, I turned the
heating off, and didn't turn it
on again until about 3am this
morning. That will have saved a
lot of electricity. Of course to
turn the heater off first thing
in the morning was only really
possible because I had been
running the heater full
blast for the last few hours
before I got up, and the room
had soaked up a lot of heat
One thing that wasn't a
disaster, and so was a positive
thing, but also a negative
thing, is that the beer delivery
I was expecting either
yesterday, or Saturday, didn't
turn up yesterday. The real
positive thing is that it didn't
arrive while I was out, or in
some ways even worse, when I was
in the shower with shampoo in my
eyes and stuff. With the hoped
for possibility of it being a
special lunchtime, I made sure I
was clean shaven, washed and
conditioned hair, plus well
scrubbed all over while
showering.
It was good that I was
able to walk to the station with
no chest pains, although the
final bit of walking over the
footbridge did start to cause
some discomfort. I had actually
allowed an extra minute or two
to walk to the station, but I am
fairly sure I didn't use them.
What was a huge disappointment
was getting to the station and
finding there were no copies of
The Metro there.
The same was true at
Ladywell station. I did hear a
bit later that someone was sure
they saw some on a bus, but it
is possible those might have
been left from the previous day.
I did the walk from Ladywell
station to the pub at a
reasonable pace, and I arrived
at the pub with only the merest
hint of angina starting. I must
admit that I did take a very
brief break in the walk when I
stopped to give directions to a
woman who didn't seem to know
where she wanted to go to -
tricky !
No copy of The Metro
meant no crossword to fill in
the silent spaces. It made me
doubly hopeful that Angela would
make it to the pub. Even Ayse
agreed that Angela has said that
she expected to be there
yesterday, but alas, there was
no Angela. In between drinking,
and a bit of banter, I spent the
time reading news stories on my
phone. It just didn't feel
right, and I was sort of happy
when I finished my second pint
of Guinness, and headed for
home.
At least some good came
out of this outing to the pub. I
got two more snaps of trains to
record in my spreadsheet of
train numbers that I had taken
snaps of. To be exact, I only
got one new pictures, and one
far better picture to replace a
rather poor quality picture. I
can't remember if the
replacement was 707028, as
pictured above, or 707015, as
pictured below. While entering
the details in my spreadsheet I
noted that I hadn't as to close
to getting picture of the entire
fleet as I thought. Although I
have only a couple of numbers
left to photograph, there are
still quite a few of these
trains in their Southeastern
livery to get - I have them in
their old Southwestern Railway
livery.
I don't know whether
standing up on the train (for
just one stop it was hardly
worth sitting down), was teh
cause, or at least didn't help,
but my legs felt very stiff as I
walked home. Maybe not as bad as
after my 3 miles walk the day
before, but bad enough. I ended
up walking behind someone, and I
just could not find the energy
to overtake, and pull ahead of
them. I eventually crossed the
road before I usually would so I
could set my own pace - which
was only fractionally faster
than I had been walking when
behind the dawdling man.
I only had two pints of
Guinness, and that, plus the
fresh air, hadn't given me a
raging hunger, but I most
definitely felt very peckish
when I got home, and I could
easily have devoured something
really inappropriate.
Fortunately I didn't have
anything too tempting available
on a day when I was supposed to
be fasting until dinner time.
What I did have should/may have
been safe if only I had one
apple, instead of two, and maybe
not eaten a small orange as
well.
Things got a bit vague
after that. I know I wanted to
lie down, read for a bit, and
then, ideally, have a snooze,
but I feel sure I was doing a
few things that stopped me
taking the lazy way at the first
opportunity. Maybe it was just
checking the pictures I had
taken I got about a dozen snaps
of trains, but only the two
shown here were of any interest.
Anyway, after a delay of an
unknown amount of time, I did
lay down, and I am sure I ended
up have a short snooze.
Dinner was a tricky time.
I had the second half of my
takeaway from the previous night
to devour. The grilled chicken,
and a double portion of salad,
should have been very safe, but
there was also a portion of
potato wedges. Maybe I could
have frozen them the previous
night, or at least saved them
for today, but I elected to heat
them up in the mini oven/grill,
and finish them off last night.
They were a bit overdone, but
still nice, but may not have
been a wise choice.
After dinner, last night
was very similar to the previous
night. I watched "Secrets Of The
London Underground" on live TV,
and then went to bed to read for
as much as an hour before trying
for sleep. It was actually a bit
less than an hour, and I think I
was asleep, with no
heartburn/acid reflux pains,
slightly before 9pm. Although as
I write that I am not sure of
that is true, and it may haver
been later, but if it was later
I am not sure how I passed the
time.
I slept pretty solidly
last night, and as noted further
up the page, I didn't have any
heating on until about 3am this
morning, and then it was only on
half power until my last couple
of hours in bed when I turned it
up full blast, and could kick
away the duvet for even more
comfortable sleep. I do remember
having a very long dream that
was set in what I think was a
college, but it was the sort of
dream where I seemed to watch
other people doing stuff while I
did nothing.
There was some
improvement to my blood glucose
this morning, but it was not a
big enough improvement. All but
one reading was in the pink area
- just a small notch down from
the red danger area. The Contour
meter initially read 9.2mmol/l,
and I thought that was too high,
and so I tried it again. This
time it was worse with a reading
of 9.8mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter
read 8.8mmol/l, and even that is
higher than I am comfortable
with. The Sinocare meter just
rubbed teh salt in again with a
reading of 9.9mmol/l. Oh well,
at least I am out of the danger
area by the skin of my teeth.
Today is another day when
I should be fasting until at
least dinner time, but I have
already got off to a bad start
by having a large bowl of
instant noodles. Today is a very
tricky day for fasting. For one
thing I ideally need to to go
shopping in Tesco today. That
always brings bad temptations.
The second thing is that this
afternoon should be a beer
tasting session with Jodie.
Getting drunk is never a good
way to try and fast !
