I don't think any forecast
for yesterday came anywhere near
describing what the weather really
was. Well I guess they got the
dull start to the day right, and
maybe a very brief bit of drizzle
mid morning, but from then on it
was all rather different. The
forecast said the whole afternoon
would be slightly or very dull,
but the afternoon was bright with
sunny spells. The earliest sunny
spells were weak and watery, but
later one were very cheering. Once
again the temperature climbed
higher than the 19° C forecast. I
think I saw 22° C on one occasion.
The grey start today was
over at least an hour before the
forecast said it would be. It is
now very sunny. The latest
revision to The Met Office
forecast shows a few less sunny
spells than the screenshot
above, and it has added heavy
rain for 2pm, and light rain for
3pm. After that the sunny spells
resume. The BBC is far more
optimistic with many hours shown
as full sunshine, and all other
daylight hours as sunny spells.
Today could reach 22° C, and
maybe 23° C according to The
BBC. Once again The BBC and Met
Office show different forecasts
for tomorrow. The BBC shows a
lot of sunny hours, and the rest
as sunny spells. The Met Office
are far more pessimistic, and
say that the first sunny spells
won't happen until 10am. Until
3pm everything looks good, but
than at 4pm they predict a
thunderstorm ! Both give a
maximum temperature of 20° C.
Yesterday included
another 1 hour and 45 minute
phone call from Sue. Most of
what she said was almost
incoherent, and I had to be very
bluff and end the call before
she drove me crazy. Anyway, I
did managed to do a few useful
things during the day, and I
even managed a quick snooze.
The most significant
thing I did was to do quite a
bit of laundry. I hand washed
two t-shirts, a pair of lounge
pants, and several pairs of
underpants. I had left all of it
soaking in detergent after I had
had a shower. I felt much nicer
for that after not bothering to
have one the day before.
Unfortunately I got back to
finishing that laundry a bit too
late to hang it on the washing
line to dry. On the other hand
it wasn't until it was far too
late that I realised I could
have dried it all outside.
The other bit of useful
work I did was to edit three
more recordings of Secrets Of
The London Underground. I now
have season 3 complete, and I
only have a few missing episodes
of season 1 and 2. The way
Yesterday are continuing to
repeat all the episodes in
random order, there is a fair
chance I will complete my
collection of series 1 and 2
before long.
One thing I couldn't do
during the day was to eat. My
super blood glucose readings in
the morning meant I shouldn't
have even eaten any breakfast.
At least I did manage to limit
that to on small packet of
instant noodles. I did a check
on my blood glucose in the
afternoon, just using one meter,
and it was still dangerously
high, but I was getting
seriously hungry by late
afternoon.
A bit earlier in the
afternoon I prepared some red
cabbage, and some onion, to add
to a simple salad. The onion I
doused in some vinegar to make
it a bit milder. A little later
I sprinkled it with some virgin
olive oil. The rad cabbage I
doused in olive oil, and also
sprinkled on some purple basil.
That was not a good idea because
that purple basil was very woody
textured.
I held out until about
6.30pm before I had my dinner.
As well as the red cabbage, and
sliced onion, I added some
Tesco, ready to use "aromatic
salad leaves" and half a dozen
cherry tomatoes. Apart from
finding bits of woody purple
basil, it was quite nice -
except for the feta-style
cheese. I don't know how long
that cheese has been in the
fridge. It was still in it's
sealed container in brine, but I
feel sure it's taste had changed
to something not that pleasant.
I think I might throw away the
rest.
Last night was the night
when Great TV! repeat all the
single episodes of The Avengers
that they have shown through the
week - 5 episodes back to back.
There was one episode that I
can't recall seeing recently,
but none was anything new, and I
only watched it for something to
do. At 9pm there was other stuff
I could have watched, but I
decided to go to bed (and to
turn my phone off before I went
to bed). I read for maybe half
an hour before I turned over,
and seemingly went straight to
sleep.
I think I slept well last
night, although at about 4.30am
I woke up feeling a bit cool. At
that time the heater was on low,
and so I turned it up full
before going back to sleep. I
think it may have been in that
last 90 minutes of sleep that I
had the only dreams I can
remember a few scraps from. In
fact I can only remember a few
snapshots of the dream(s), and
they don't really make up a
story line I can write anything
about.
The most I can say about
that dream, or series of
connected dreamlets, was that it
seemed to involve some students.
At one point they seemed to be
living in my house, which was a
far bigger house than in
reality. At one point we went to
a pub by climbing out of rear
window for some reason, but
before we got there we stopped
at a cupboard, or lock-up, and
one of the students said "we
mustn't forget this" and picked
up a bottle, and then said "it's
cost £4.15 a shot. It is very
nice, but makes your vomit black
!".
There is a shorter story
from during the night that I can
tell with some accuracy. I think
it was around 2am that I went to
the toilet for a pee, and saw a
HUGE spider on the wall. It was
lucky that I was not desperate
to go, and in a semi relaxed
manner I grabbed the small glass
with a beer mat on it -
strategically placed for such a
situation. With one quick
movement I had the glass over
the spider, and had slid the
beermat under it. A quick tap on
the beer mat got the spider to
the bottom of the glass, and I
could throw the spider out the
open window. All done with no
fuss before I could pee in
peace.
I am happy to announce
that this morning my blood
glucose had come right down to
slightly better than normal. The
Contour meter read a very good
7.3mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter
wasn't quite as good, but
8.0mmol/l is still rather good.
The Sinocare meter more or less
agreed with a reading of
8.1mmol/l. It seems I am back to
good health again. Hopefully I
can keep my blood glucose this
lower, or even lower for some
time to come. I even allowed
myself a double small helping of
instant noodles for breakfast.
Today is, at least so
far, bright and sunny, and if
the BBC forecast turns out to be
correct, it will be like this
all day. I won't be seeing Jodie
today, and so I ought to take
advantage of the good weather to
see how well a double dose of my
increased dose of the anti
angina drug is working. It is
possible I might still do that,
but my first task has to be to
get some shopping in Tesco. I'll
try and only buy safe stuff, but
I might be tempted to a little
indulgence if I see anything
with a reduced price sticker.
After that I may have a short
rest before going out again for
a walk - maybe just a simple
walk to Ladywell and back, but
maybe something more ambitious,
or maybe no walk at all. We'll
see.
