There
has been some sunshine, but now
it is quite dull. However the
extra dull hour at 10am, in the
screenshot above, has now been
replaced by just white cloud,
and all yesterday's predictions
for some showers today have
disappeared. The chances are
that there could be quite a few
sunny spells today, and that may
push the temperature up to a
more respectable 20° C. It
could be a cool night with the
temperature down to 12° C, and
the rest of tomorrow could be no
more than 17° C. The current
prediction for tomorrow is that
there will be a scattering of
light rain showers - except in
BBC land where an occasional
afternoon thunderstorm is
predicted. I suspect that like
yesterday's forecast for today,
the forecast for tomorrow may
change beyond recognition.
Yesterday's dull
and wet weather did nothing to
put me in a good mood, and yet
some of the day was OK. There
were other reason why my day was
spoiled, but I'll get to those
reasons later. I guess I was
lucky that I managed to find a
timne to go out when I only
briefly passed through some
moderate heavy rain.
As I mentioned yesterday
morning, my intended plan was to
walk to the pharmacy, and then
walk around the corner to Aldi.
Not only was intended, it was
also reality. I put on my best
hooded raincoat, but I didn't
bother to put the hood up when
walking to the pharmacy because
I only felt an occasional drop
of rain. At that time it was
only about 13° C outside, and
that seemed cold enough to
trigger a bit of chest pain. It
seemed to be just the old
problem of the scar tissue, and
sternum aching, rather than
angina.
When I got to the
pharmacy I was served by the
intelligent assistant with the
good memory. She didn't do the
usual (for the others) of asking
my name and date of birth, but
just put it all in the PC by
memory to check it was the
correct time for the repeat
prescription. One thing she did
confirm for my is that it
doesn't appear the changes to my
prescription that the
cardiologist was going to do,
has not been done.
There is still hope that
I may get the revised dosages
when I pick up the prescription
on Thursday morning. I feel sure
that the pharmacy send an
internal email style message to
a doctor to get the prescription
authorised, and there is a slim
chance he will see that I have
been under the care of the
hospital cardiologist, and see
the recommended change in my
medication. I hope that happens
because while I still haven't
properly tested it, I think the
full dose of the anti angina
drug, which I am able to do
because I have more than I need
to last to this coming repeat
prescription, and can take a
whole pill instead of half, is
helping a lot to hold off the
onset of angina.
After the pharmacy I put
part two of the plan into
operation, and walked around the
corner to Aldi. There was some
definite healthy stuff I wanted
from there, but I also intended
to deliberately buy something
very bad for me. After my recent
stomach upset I wanted something
that would be easy on my
digestive tract. I considered
low sugar, canned custard, but
I'm not sure if Aldi have any,
likewise for a low sugar rice
pudding.
In fact, although not
closely checking every single
shelf, I didn't actually see any
canned custard or rice pudding.
What they did have was what I
was really planning to buy all
along - ice cream ! They usually
have some 300ml tubs of ice
cream that
pretend/claim
to be low calorie, although they
make no claims about sugar
content. They seemed to have
none of that yesterday, and I
had to select a 1 litre tub of
full fat ice cream, although a
very quick glimpse suggested to
was not as bad as some.
Other stuff I purchased
was a couple of bottle of close
on zero sugar Dandelion &
Burdoch fizzy drink. I like that
stuff, in small amounts, but
they don't awlays have it in
stock. I also bought two bottles
of their own brand sugar free
cola. Instantly I was carrying
9kg in my rucksack (4 x 2 litre
bottles). Other stuff was some
diced chicken, some mixed salad
leaves, plus some "naughty", but
interesting flavoured crisps,
and a 9 pack of toilet paper.
I can't say I enjoyed my
walk home. For one thing it was
during a brief heavy fall of
rain. My raincoat kept my top
half perfectly dry, but the hood
does tend to slip down my
forehead, and I almost have to
tip my head back to see straight
ahead. The two shopping bags I
carried seemed light enough, and
the weight in my rucksack didn't
feel any problem, but I still
found the walk home a bit
tiring, and I often seemed to be
on the point of getting some
unwanted pains.
It did seem I instantly
recovered by the time I was in
the dining room, putting the
bag, and rucksack down, and then
taking off my raincoat. After
putting everything away it was
almost 1pm, and so instantly
lunchtime. That was when I
deliberately, without really
caring for the consequences
because I knew they would be
short lived, even if they
completely messed up a recent
very good record, had my lunch
of about a third of the tub of
ice cream I had just bought. I
have to say it tasted delicious,
and slipped down my throat with
ease. I could almost feel it
coating my sensitive digest
tract with a cooling/healing
cream.
There would be amazing
things later, but the first
amazing thing was that I managed
to move a few things around in
the freezer, and could just
about squeeze that one litre tub
in it. My afternoon started off
nicely, but was soon spoiled by
a phone call from Sue. It is
usually pleasant to chat to Sue
for maybe an hour, but as usual
she had verbal diarrhoea, and
stretched the call out to 5
hours long. That annoyed me a
bit because I had tried to end
it nearly two hours earlier, and
she had said OK, but then just
kept talking. It rather spoiled
my intentions for dinner.
Knowing how "naughty"
that ice cream was, I had an
idea that I might try to eat
nothing for dinner. But then I
decided I would have just a
small amount of crisps. In the
usual course of events there is
no such thing as just a small
amount of crisps, but there was
this time, but only because I
decided to switch to some rice
crackers and cream cheese. I had
just finished a snack sized
amount of dinner when Sue phoned
my back about just one little
point, and then it was hard to
shut her up for another 2 hours.
I had missed a bit of TV
I had intended to watch, but I
still had the final part of my
dinner (and which only became
the the final part after I felt
hungry after the previous final
part because of having to listen
to Sue. The actual final part
was a surprisingly tasty Aldi
ready made basic salad - with
probably a bit more grated
cheddar on it than intended. As
I say, it was very enjoyable,
and didn't seem to have any
negative effects when I laid
down to go to sleep.
I think it was getting on
for 10pm before I went to bed,
and it was definitely after 10pm
when I put the book I was
reading down, and turned over to
go to sleep. As far as I can
remember, I fell asleep really
quickly, and I seemed to sleep
very soundly through all the
night. I woke up to pee about
twice in the night, and the last
time I wondered if it was even
needed.
In my last hour or two of
sleep I had a very rich dream -
full of details, and seeming to
last a long time, but now,
several hours later, I can only
recount some very broad details.
The dream was set in a different
version of Catford - a Catford
with 3 or 4 large music venues.
I started out going to one with
a female friend whose name, and
even image, now elude me. It was
in something that seemed like it
had a previous life as a cinema.
The gig was supposed to start at
8.30pm, but by then the band was
still setting up.
It got to 9pm, and we
still had not heard any music.
At that point almost all of the
audience got up and walked out.
I knew they must be going to
another venue only a few shops
down the high street. I/we
decided to do the same. Things
got a bit complicated at that
point because we got split up
somehow, or maybe decided to
take a slightly different route.
Much hanging around happened as
we tried to meet up again. It
felt like a lot of time must
have passed, but nothing
happened - except I woke up.
After what seemed like a
good sleep I actually got out of
bed just before 6am - just early
enough to take screenshots of
the weather forecasts before
they were revised/refreshed at
6am. I went for quite a small
pee, and thought I would also
poo, but it was just a couple of
farts. I gave my hands a good
scrub to make sure there was not
contaminants like sweat or soap
on my hands so I could get a
nice clean blood glucose
reading.
After eating "full fat"
ice cream, and crisps, I
expecting my blood glucose to be
higher than recently I was
prepared for figures up in the
nines, but I was very wrong. The
Contour meter read an excellent
7.1mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter
read an amazingly good 6.5mmol/l
- right in the middle of the
rarely seen dark green zone. The
Sinocare meter lit up it's very
rarely seen green LED
(indicating really good), and
gave a reading of just
7.0mmol/l. I have a really
cranky/stupid idea that a high
jolt of sugar kicks my pancreas
fully awake. I have seen this
happen before, but maybe never
this good.
My other health
indicators were pretty good this
morning. My weight is 100gm
higher than yesterday, but if I
had had a decent poo early this
morning that could fully account
for that 100gm, and possibly
more. I might have even "lost"
200gm. I expect I will have one
before I go out at lunchtime. My
blood pressure is also very good
this morning. It was, on a
second attempt at relaxing, just
103/49. That should be low
enough to satisfy the most rabid
doctor !
Today I shall be going
out for my usual Wednesday
lunchtime drink of a couple of
pints of Guinness. It is
possible that today could be a
three pint lunchtime. There is
not even a tiny microscopic
chance that Angela will be
there, but Dik, the guitar
player from The Entourage Band
will be dropping by for a chat,
and that almost guarantees a
third pint (sometime a fourth
!). I hope I have a very
peaceful afternoon, and can have
a snooze without a call from Sue
!
