Yesterday was mostly dull, although I think we had a few, very short, sunny spells around the middle of the day. As forecast, there was a few very brief, very light showeres at the end of the afternoon. It didn't seem to feel that cold, and I even had some windows open from time to time. The forecast predicted 20° C, and I think that was about right.
      a cheerful sort of
                                            day

As usual the BBC and Met Office have different predictions about today's weather. The BBC shows loads of hours with sunny spells. The Met Office shows less sunny hours, but some of them it shows as full, non stop sunshine. As I write this the sky is mostly blue, and the sun is shining nicely. The only problem is that for all the sunshine, it is predicted to be a fairly cool day. Just 16° C is predicted (and the single hour of 17° C at 2pm, shown in the screenshot above has disappeared on the latest revision). The BBC forecast for tomorrow is almost the same as their forecast for today, but The Met Office shows a lot less sunshine, and the chance of a shower. However both forecasters say it might be very slightly warmer, and both agree on 17° C.

Yesterday was another day that seemed to be quite good, and even a few rash things I did seemed to have a good outcome....or mostly a good outcome. More about those things later. Maybe the highlight of the day was a shopping trip to Aldi.

I can't seem to think of the right words to describe how I felt yesterday morning. It is probably because it is a mixed jumble of the positive and the negative. Maybe the positives slightly outweighed the negatives. Finding my blood glucoe measurements had returned to normal after a high peak the morning before, was quite uplifting. Not having the usual aches and pains, stiffness, etc was also good, but if I tried hard I could have described an assortment of creaky bits.

It was nice to have another shower yesterday morning. That makes it sounds like a morning shower is a rarity, but it's not. I intend to have one every day, but on grey, damp, cold, horrible, and similar days, sometimes I can't be bothered. Yesterday morning could have been one of those days, but it was all overridden by a sort of desire for some entertainment, plus some potential food items.

There was no essential need to go to Aldi yesterday morning after going to Tesco the previous morning, but there were a few things I thought it would be useful to get, and some of them were to stock up for future times. It was around midday when I set out to Aldi, but I can't seem to remember the exact time.......hmm, I think it might have been earlier because I was considering things I might possibly have for lunch.

It is a shame that it was really rather dull when I walked to Aldi. If it had been brighter I might have actually enjoyed the walk. It was mostly pain free, and that made for a pleasant change, but the cold was starting to make my chest feel a bit stiff. It is rather odd that it should feel a bit chilly because it was around 18° C, and on the walk back it was feeling rather humid.

On the whole, I stuck to stuff that was at least moderately healthy as I went around putting stuff in my shopping trolley. In the vegetable section I stuck to salad. I didn't buy any fresh meat, but I did buy stuff like corned beef, and ready cooked and sliced spicy chicken. The one unhealthy, or theoretically so, thing I deliberately bought was a tub of ice cream. I did check several tubs, and bought one that had only a small huge amount of sugar in it.

In terms of bulk, the biggest things I bought were two twin packs of big rolls of kitchen paper. Those two almost filled one of my two shopping bags, but unlike, for instance, the two cans of soup, and the two cans of beer, I bought, they were quite lightweight. It was possibly one of the lighter loads I have walked home from Aldi. One thing that seemed more noticeable on the way home was that it seemed to be getting humid. It still didn't feel all that warm, but I seemed to be getting quite sticky with sweat by the time I got home.

Although I still can't remember the time (it just did not seem important - except for one thing...), it did feel like time for lunch after I got home, and my lunch was initially a third of the tub of ice cream I had just bought. It was a Madagascar vanilla ice cream, and it was very nice, although I can't say it was anything special in the vanilla department. Despite the posh name, it seemed very ordinary.

It was not long before I wanted a more proper lunch, and I invented the perfect excuse to have one. I already had a couple of salads in the fridge that I had bought from Tesco the day before, and it seemed a bit full when I crammed in the extra 3 ready made salads I bought from Aldi. Two of them were very basic, and after adding the remains of a pack of sliced corned beef (just two very thin slices) I enjoyed stuffing my face with that salad.

There was one other significant thing I did yesterday. I hand washed two small hand towels. As always seems to be the case with towels, they needed many rinses, and I did split the job in two so I could have a rest from all that wringing out, I used the time to set up the small clothes horse in the dining room with the window open. Once I thought I had rinsed those towels as well as I could without my hands falling off, I hung them up to dry, with a desk fan blowing at them. Maybe yesterday was not humid after all because they were almost dry by the evening.

The rest of my day, up until dinner time, I did quite a few small little jobs as simple as topping up a few camera batteries. I also did some reading, and I possibly had a snooze. Somehow I didn't seem to feel any boredom all day. My dinner was probably a bit over the top. I ate two, fish based, ready meals. They were supposed to be a meal for one, maybe they would have been if followed by something like jam roly poly for dessert, but they seemed so small by themselves, that I ate the two. One was a tiny bit of cod swimming in three times it's size in tasteless white sauce, with a small dollop of mashed potatoes, and 24 peas. The other was a fish pie that had the area of about two credit cards, and was about half an inch thick.

I mostly amused myself in the evening watching 2 (or was it three) episodes of Yes Prime Minister. The last one I watched ended at almost 9pm. I considered staying up to watch a repeat episode of QIXL on Dave, but decided to read in bed for a while before attempting to get to sleep a bit earlier than recently. I was not as successful as hoped, but I think I managed to get to sleep before 10pm. I seemed to sleep very well. I remember very little from the night except waking up at about 5.30am, and seeming like it was time to get up.

I managed to get about another half hour of light sleep before getting up at about 6.15am. I seemed to feel not exactly "good", but maybe better than some morning. My health indicators suggested I should feel moderately good. The only negative thing is that my excess eating seemed to have raised my weight by almost a whole kilogram, but that was before I had a morning poo (and I still have yet to do one).

The big surprise was that not only was my blood glucose good, I actually scored one excellent reading, and that despite the sugar ice cream, and two fish ready meals. The Contour meter read a very good 7.2mmol/l. The GlucoRX meter read an amazing 6.8mmol/l - into the even better dark green area !! The Sinocare more or less went with the flow with a reading of 7.4mmol/l. Although obviously very early in the month, my running average of all meters is just 7.79mmol/l, and that must be the lowest in possibly decades. My blood pressure is also nice and low this morning, 103/49.

The main, maybe only item on the agenda today is my usual Wednesday lunchtime drink in The Jolly Farmers. It is possible I may be joined by Dik today. I have a fairly good camera I may offer to swap for a bottle of whisky. This follows on from last week when he was telling me his niece wants to take up photography. She is apparently only 10, but the camera I have in mind is possibly suitable for such a youngster. It is a Canon SX40 "bridge" camera. It was a pretty good camera, and for me it was a "gateway" camera that lead me on to buying, and trying DSLR cameras, At the moment it is basically gathering dust. I can't be bothered to try and sell it on something like Ebay (where it could go for as little as £75), or Amazon (who have a second hand one for £132), but a bottle of whisky will be a good enough swap.
