Like
recent days, today has started
out bright and sunny, but it may
only last until 11am. After that
it should stay dry, but will be
a little duller. On the other
hand, the latest revision to the
met Office forecast now shows
sunny spells for 3 and 4pm.
Maybe they will fill more gaps
in later revisions. It should
end up a little bit warmer today
with
19° C 20
° C now forecast.
Tomorrow may be mostly slightly
dull, but there could be one or
two sunny spells during the day,
and more in the early evening.
The temperature will probably be
cooler at just 18
° C,
Yesterday was not a
very productive day. The only
productive thing I did was to
finish washing a hand towel that
had got very smelly for some
unknown reason. I added a bit of
disinfectant to the wash, and,
fingers crossed, it is now nice
and fresh.
The afternoon was
reserved for a beer drinking
session with Jodie, but she
didn't turn up. I had a feeling
she had mentioned going to a
gig, and couldn't make it, but
maybe because of the beers, I
couldn't be sure of it. By 4pm I
was indeed sure that she was
going to a gig. I did have a
possible plan to go out
somewhere, but I could not be
bothered. I just went into lazy
mode.
It all added up to a
great deal of laziness
yesterday, but oddly enough, I
didn't feel like I was bored. It
is hard to say exactly what I
was doing. A lot of it was just
reading - mostly from a book,
but also a few things on the
internet. It was enough to
distract me from feeling hungry,
but I did have half a bag of
greasy crisps to help line my
stomach against a possible
onslaught of beer.
There was one other thing
that distracted me from food,
and it was actually food itself.
I am not sure when the idea
first started to tickle my brain
cells, but towards the end of
the afternoon I had my mind set
on a shish kebab for dinner. In
fact I ordered two shish kebabs,
and they were a lot nicer than
expected. With a discount for
ordering over £20 the final
bill, including delivery and
stuff, came to £20.05. That is a
fair bit for one rather big
meal, but it could have been a
lot worse.
I ate my dinner, and
continued to entertain myself
during the evening, by watching
3 or 4 episodes of Captain
Scarlet. I must admit that when
first released in 1967 (was it
really that long ago ?) I was
not a great fan. I guess I am
still not exactly a fan, but I
will admit I enjoyed the
episodes I saw. I also realised
how sophisticated that
generation of puppets had got.
They looked close to realistic.
The background sets were very
sophisticated as well. The only
thing that let it all down was
how bouncy the miniature road
vehicles were.
I'm not sure when I went
to bed, although I know it was
still light outside. I did read
quite a lot in bed before I fell
asleep, and the process was
lengthened by needing to take a
couple of antacid tablets before
I could get comfortable. I( did
seem to wake up more often then
recently last night, and I think
every time was for a pee. It was
curious that I seemed to not pee
much before going to sleep.
My dreams were very odd
last night. It seems like all I
can remember is static, almost
snapshots, of a few dreams. One
was about a farmer teaching his
children, and grandchildren, to
take a lot of good care of the
cows, pamper them, and keep them
as happy as possible to maximise
the milk yield. It was almost as
if I were reading it rather than
watching it take place. It may
well have been influenced by
something I had been reading
before I fell asleep, although
there was nothing exactly the
same as it in the book.
Another dream where no
action took place was almost
certainly influenced by the
book. In this dream I was
definitely me, and I was
awaiting a late Tesco grocery
delivery. It was to stock up a
spaceship that was due to take
off in the very near future, and
if Tesco's delivery didn't
arrive the spacemen would be
going hungry. I think there were
two more dreams that were just
of a situation where no action
took place, but they seem to
have slipped my memory.
A strange thing happened
this morning, and it was
something I have seen before. It
was part of what often seems to
be a conflict between blood
sugar control and my weight.
This morning my blood glucose
readings were good, but not
nearly as low as yesterday, but
I seemed to lose almost 600gm of
weight. I am now back to the
point where a bit more weight
loss would take me down to
weights not seen for a at least
a few years.
My Contour (brand) blood
glucose meter read 7.8mmol/l,
and I guess that is still pretty
good. The GlucoRX meter read
8.0mmol/l, as did the Sinocare
meter. Considering that until
maybe 6 weeks ago, 8.5 was the
target I set myself, 8.0mmol/l
was pretty good, but after a
string of readings around
7.5mmol/l, my new self set
target, it is very slightly
poor.
The first thing on
today's agenda has already
happened. A little after 9am I
had a visit from Lee to change
the mixer tap in the kitchen. He
reeked of booze, allegedly from
last night, and the first thing
he asked for was a shot of
whisky to calm his hangover !
The job of changing the mixer
tap was slower than it might be
because he couldn't stop
chatting, but at least he seems
to have got it right first time.
I can't see any dribbles this
time. When he fitted the
original mixer tap, which was
one that one of his girlfriends
reject as being a bit crappy, it
was possibly one he had found in
a scrap metal place. That one he
had to tighten and re-tighten a
couple of times.
Now the job is all done,
he has gone, and my water bill
should start going down. The
next thing on my agenda is
having a shower. After that I
might dash out to Tesco, but I
have had a text message to say
to expect a delivery by DPD
between 1:53 and 2:53 this
afternoon. I think it is a spare
battery I ordered from Amazon,
that started it's journey in
France. The last tracking info
was from a few days ago, and
said it had reached a French
sorting office. If it is not the
battery, then I can't think what
it could be.
I don't really know
exactly what I will do for the
rest of the afternoon, but I do
want to watch what I eat quite
carefully. Tomorrow I want to
spend several hours at the top
of Hilly Fields watching a
couple of bands (and doing my
best not to hear or see one band
in the middle). I seem to
remember there are toilets up
there, but with a lot of people
potentially attending, I dread
to think what state they will be
in. It would better if I had
nothing that might cause me to
want to have a poo in the
afternoon, and on the day, to
not drink while I am there.
