There
have been no sunny spells yet,
and the breeze is feeling
very
fresh at the moment. I don't
think today is going to be the
day I get my shorts out again.
The BBC seems to think that
sunny spells should have already
started, but it looks like The
Met Office keep making the start
just one hour later. Maybe there
will be a sunny spell at 11am,
but I fear not. The next
possible time for sunshine could
be late afternoon/early evening.
Just 20
° C
is forecast today.
Tomorrow could be very sunny,
but only 21
°
C is the best the forecast
offers,
I never did go out
yesterday. I didn't need any
more shopping, and I felt that
angina pains would soon spoil
any out further than the local
shops. That didn't rule out
doing some train photography -
which is a mostly static thing
when not actually travelling by
train - but maybe I was feeling
semi depressed, and ruled that
out too because I just could not
be bothered.
There was only one thing
I did do yesterday, and at least
for me, it was a major thing !
It was to get the hoover out,
and to do a lot of hoovering (by
my own standards). I started off
in the hall, and before I
actually hoovered the poor old
faded carpet I did some tidying
up to leave more carpet exposed.
I'm not sure that after a fair
bit of work it looks a lot
better. The hall carpet is just
too old to look good now.
I then moved to the
dining room. Once again the
dining room carpet has seen
better days, but after much
scrubbing with the hoover head
to pick up clumps of my own
hair, other fluff and dust, food
scraps (particularly where Jodie
eats), and tiny bits of
cardboard after I have cut up
delivery boxes, it does seem to
look better. I also sucked up a
few more shards of glass after
the accident where I kicked a
bottle of Johnny Walker whisky,
and it shattered.
I then too the hoover
upstairs where I gave the most
accessible bits of the spare
bedroom a quick hoovering. When
I hear that Patricia will be
coming to stay a night or two,
and get my cameras out of the
room, I can give it a better
clean. The next area to get the
hoover was the short bit of
passage outside the bedroom
doors. One of these days I'll
have to get down on my hands and
knees and give the skirting
boards and between the banister
railings, a wipe over with a
damp cloth.
Finally I took the hoover
into my bedroom. Initially I
just wanted to clean all the
crumbs and other bits of
dropped food from under my
computer desk, but having done
that I did hoover all the
accessible bits around my bed.
There was an awful lot of fluff
I picked up, and nearly all of
it was my own hair. No wonder
the hair on my head s getting so
thin.
As well as hoovering
being hard enough work to raise
a light sweat - even with
windows open, and a cool breeze
passing through - but I
discovered it was also hard
enough work to get the first
signs of angina pain starting to
come through. That seemed to be
a good time to put the hoover
away again. The only real
significant bit I didn't hoover
was the stairs and the landing
at the top of the stairs.
In approximate terms I
finished my hoovering at around
midday, and that left nothing to
do in the afternoon. I think I
mostly passed the time reading
and snoozing, but I did spend a
fair bit of time on the
internet. For some reason
(probably brain decay) I can't
seem to be able to say what I
had for lunch. I feel pretty
sure I didn't skip lunch, but I
may have substituted some
snacking instead of anything
like a proper lunch.
I do know what my dinner
was - and wasn't. I was
intending to start with a salad
starter, but the ready made
salad which I had in the fridge
had been there too long, and I
think it was past it's use by
date, and some of the salad
leaves were wilting, and
starting to smell a bit. I save
the tomatoes and threw away the
rest. I added the tomatoes to my
main meal of flavoured,
microwave in the bag rice with
some chicken burger fillets in a
sort of crunchy batter. I
followed that with a couple of
scoops of plain vanilla ice
cream.
There was very little on
TV last night, and I ended up
watching an episode of Star
Trek: Voyager being shown on Sky
Mix. Fortunately it was one of
the less awful episodes. Later
on I watched both QIXL and Have
I Got News For You. The latter
finished at 11pm, and so I did
not get an early night last
night. Fortunately the rice and
ice cream seemed OK for my
digestion, and I didn't have any
indigestion to keep me from
sleep past night.
Once again it seemed to
be in the very narrow range of
temperatures where I was
comfortable sleeping partly
covered by the duvet instead of
having to turn the heater on low
- although I did turn it on
around 3 or 4am when it was
getting a bit cool. on the
whole I did seem to sleep quite
soundly last night. I know I got
up for at least one pee, but I
hardly remember doing it, or if
there might have been a second
time (not counting what seems to
be a new habit of waking up, up
to an hour earlier than I feel I
want to get up, and going back
to sleep again after a pee.
I do have some quite
jumbled memories of some
dreaming last night. I
don't think it seemed it at the
time, but I am very sure that I
had a short series of dreams
that seemed to follow a common
theme, but often jumped from
place to place. I think the
dream started with an attempt to
put out a pirate radio broadcast
from what seemed like an old
dockside warehouse, although it
often seemed more like a
bedroom.
The transmitter was
installed and set up, but we
didn't have an aerial. It must
have been intended to be a
medium wave broadcast because we
were discussing how we could put
up a long wire aerial to maybe
another building. At some point
my sixth sense predicted
trouble, and I went for a wander
to check the lie of the land (so
to speak). I left the old
building looking room, out into
what seemed like a staircase of
a far more modern building.
Looking over the railings I
could look down a couple of
floors to where there was a
small group of men in suits. I
assumed they were the radio
investigation people.
I went to the very top of
the stairs, and sat down in a
passageway to look at a folder
of notes and photos that I
suddenly had with me. The photos
included pictures of the known
officers who could "bust us" for
running an illegal transmitter.
The next thing I knew was that
those men were passing next to
me, and one was carrying a
directional aerial for VHF
frequencies (and useless for
medium wave tracking). A few
overheard bits of their
conversation showed they were
indeed radio engineers, but
seemed to be assessing the
possibilities for a link for an
outside broadcast from one of
the legal stations.
I woke up around that
point in the dream. It was about
an hour too early to get up,
particularly after not getting
to sleep until well gone 11pm.
As noted above, I had a pee, and
went back to bed. Once again it
didn't really feel I had even
fallen asleep, but suddenly
about an hour had passed, and I
thought I may as well get up.
Apart from my right shoulder
blade, which was quite sore in
some positions, I seemed to feel
reasonably OK.
At first I though I was
definitely not that good. The
first blood glucose reading I
took seemed rather high - about
9.4mmol/l if I recall correctly.
That was using the Contour
meter, and that is mostly, but
not exclusively, reliable. The
GlucoRX meter read a fair
8.1mmol/l, and the Sinocare
meter read a rather good
7.7mmol/l. On the strength of
those two readings I took
another reading using the
Contour meter. The second time
it read a far better 8.4mmol/l.
I would have been happier if all
the readings were under
8.0mmol/l, and I am unsure what
to blame for two of them being
higher, but I am wondering if
the rice I have been eating
lately is as innocent as the
packet label suggests.
It's another Wednesday,
and so the highlight ofn the
whole day is going to be a
lunchtime visit to The Jolly
Farmers for a pint or three of
Guinness. This week I should be
drinking with Dik (Richard) who
should be bring my bottle of
whisky that I wanted as payment
for the camera I passed on to
him. Based on the previous two
days I was thinking I might put
my shorts on for a nice sunny
walk through some of the park,
but at 10.13am it is still quite
dull, and the breeze almost
feels chilly. Oh well, it seems
there are sunny days still to
come. Even tomorrow could be
very sunny according to the BBC
forecast, but next Tuesday could
see sunshine and 24, maybe 25
° C !!!
