Both
forecasters (BBC and Met Office)
predict
a
lull in the rain early this
afternoon, but most of today
is going to be wet. Quite a
lot of rain could be heavy,
and although the Met Office
doesn't predict it, the BBC
says thunder and lightning for
11pm tonight. The best
we can hope for today is just
17°
C. Tomorrow may see some sunny
spells, but there may be a lot
of light rain. The temperature
could be really autumnal with
just 16° C.
Yesterday was yet
another day that was mostly OK,
but ended as a disaster,
although strictly speaking the
disaster was this morning from
3am. I'll mention the unpleasant
details about that later. As
predicted in my writing
yesterday morning, I had a very
lazy morning, and part lazy
afternoon.
About all I can say about
yesterday morning, and the start
of the afternoon, was that I had
a shower, and did some
reading. That is not a
great deal, so maybe I'll add
that my brain was considering
something else I might do later,
and which I did indeed try to do
before, during, and even after
the afternoon drinking session.
That idea was to replace
the hard disk in the old laptop
that serves as the server of
these web pages. Although I
could probably look for a way to
turn it off, a power saving
feature of the laptop (and
indeed all laptops) is to shut
down the hard disk when it is
not being used. That always
cause a delay when it has to
start up to serve up a web page,
and it is also very annoying
when uploading these freshly
written web pages (plus any
media I might show here).
My simple plan was to
replaced the "spinning rust"
hard disk with a solid state
drive. I had a spare solid state
drive here of the same size as
the old hard disk. All I had to
do was to clone the old hard
disk, and then swap the hard
disks over. I heard from Jodie
that she was running late, and
that seemed to give me plenty of
time to get the cloning process
started. It started off really
well, but at about halfway
through the data transfer slowed
to a crawl.
I think the problem is
that the old hard disk has
gained lots of defects over the
years, and the data transfer
program was having difficulty
copying the bad sectors to the
new hard disk. By mid evening I
seemed to have copied the system
partition to the new disk, and
although I didn't try it, that
should have been good enough to
boot it. It also has all the web
page stuff on it. The home
partition just never managed to
copy more than a few percent of
the data. Before I went to be I
put the old hard disk back in,
and made sure it booted OK, and
that it was, and still is
serving my web pages.
It was nearly 4pm when
Jodie arrived, and she didn't
seem to be in much of a drinking
mood. She said the sandwich she
was eating (a customised
sandwich originally bought from
some deli somewhere. Jodie had
added avocado, and possibly
other stuff to it) was making
her feel a bit queasy. She
didn't like the first beer she
opened, and I think I drank most
of it. I must admit it was a
basic ale, but it had a very
dry, and very bitter taste. I
didn't really like it either.
Another reason for Jodie
drinking so slowly was because
she was pacing herself. She was
expecting first Alan, and then a
bit later, Mark to join us, and
then the three of them were
going off together to some bar
or something when more beer
would be consumed. With Alan
confirmed to be on his way, and
an estimated arrival time, Jodie
did open a bottle of a rather
strong imperial stout, and I
thought it was delicious. Jodie
didn't seem to like it despite
it being brewed by one of the
breweries she worships. Once
again I finished off most of
Jodie's share.
There was one problem
with finishing off Jodie's
beers, and that was that it is
possible she was ill, and
sharing a beer might be a good
way to catch it. I don't think I
caught anything, or at least I
have no obvious symptoms. Jodie
kept claiming she felt cold
despite wearing three layers of
clothing ( I was just wearing a
thin t-shirt and felt OK). At
3am this morning I did feel ill,
but in a different way, and I
don't think I can blame Jodie
for it, but......
Jodie, Alan and mark left
fairly late, probably around
7pm. I had missed all my Star
Treks, and so I never had any TV
entertainment while eating my
dinner. It had been my ambition
to eat very carefully yesterday
because of my very high blood
glucose readings yesterday
morning. I had one single,
albeit 100gm, packet of instant
noodles for breakfast. Lunch was
a ready made salad with added
ham, and dinner was two cans of
soup chosen for their low sugar
content.
I don't think I felt very
drunk last night. I was sober
enough to put the laptop web
server back together again, and
check it was running OK. I think
all the beer did make me feel
quite sleepy, and I didn't
bother to stay up to watch
QI(XL) of Have I Got News For
You. I can't say with any
particular definiteness, but I
may have been in bed, and asleep
by 9pm. I guess it is equally
possible that it might have been
an hour later.
Yesterday morning I did a
fairly good poo, but for the
rest of the day I was
occasionally releasing weapons
grade farts. I somehow managed
to refrain from doing so while I
had company, but once I was
getting near bedtime they
started up again. By then the
stench may have exceeded many
arms limitation treaties. I did
go and sit on the toilet a few
times to see if anything was
moving, but alas, nothing
was.....until 3am !
It is possible I got 4 or
5 hours of sleep of unknown
quality when I woke up, passed a
small fart, and realised that I
was now definitely feeling
uncomfortable. I got out of bed,
and went to the toilet. I knew I
would be needing a pee by than,
but I was not sure I was
expecting any more, although the
pain as I got out of bed
suggested that things were on
the move.
They certainly were. It
was not obvious for the first
minute, but it turned out I was
suffering from bad diarrhoea. I
think I was sitting on the
toilet for about 20 minutes
before I could get up. I had
just enough to time to get back
to my bedroom, blow my nose, and
take a quick swig of drink
before hurrying back to the
toilet. Once again I was sitting
there for about another 20
minutes. I was really looking
forward to getting back into my
nice warm bed, but it would be
some time before I dared do
that.
I knew that things were
still not over after that second
session on the toilet. I decided
to sit at my desk and read some
stuff on my PC. Sitting there,
instead of laying in be, put me
a whole two paces closer to the
toilet. Fortunately at no time
was I in such a hurry that those
two paces would have been
critical. I probably sat at my
desk for 15 minutes, quietly
reading while my guts were
anything but quiet. Even when I
first went to bed I was aware of
some gurglings from my belly.
At 3am it was not just
the occasional gurgle, but an
almost continuous series of
gurgles and seethings, and
rumbles. This carried on while I
was sitting in front of my PC,
and 15 minutes later when I went
back to the toilet my guts were
still rumbling like an active
volcano. A lot less happened
during that visit to the toilet,
but I still had to sit patiently
on the toilet for another 15
minutes. By that time it was
obvious the sky was starting to
get light. I was still not sure
it was all over, and after 10 or
15 minutes I was back on the
toilet. This time not a lot
happened, and my internal
rumblings were dying away. 10
minutes later and I judged it
would be safe to go back to bed.
By then it was as good as light
outside. At first it seemed like
I would not get back to sleep
again, but suddenly I was
asleep, and I am guessing to was
about 4.30am this morning.
I woke up again at just
after 6am, but I managed to get
to sleep again, and had a small
lay in. I got up just in time to
take screenshots of the weather
forecast just before they were
updates at 8am. I must confess I
feel a bit rotten this morning.
Despite only doing a pee this
morning, I had passed a few vile
farts. I have to believe that by
midday I will probably have to
go to the toilet again for one
or more very soft and runny poos
! I guess it is a good day for
it, but it looks so crap, and
the weather is forecast to be so
crap that I have no desire to go
out today. To make the day a bit
more miserable, it seems that
despite my rear end discharges
being most likely more than my
food intake yesterday, I seem to
have put on another 1.5kg this
morning. I can't quite calculate
how that could have happened.
The only good news this
morning is that two of my health
indicators are looking good this
morning, and even my temperature
(36.3
° C)
is about normal for this time of
the morning. My blood pressure
is a quite low 97/48. My blood
glucose measurements are nothing
to get excited about. They are
boringly typical. The Contour
meter read 8.1mmol/l. Yjr
GlucoRX meter read a little bit
higher, but still below my old
target, with a reading of
8.3mmol/l. The odd one out was
the Sinocare meter which managed
a reading in the light green
zone, of a rather good
7.6mmol/l.
The highlight of today
will be a parcel delivery via
The Royal Mail. Unfortunately is
was just a thing to pad out an
order to make sure I got free
delivery (with using Amazon
prime). The main, and hopefully
useful item, a batter powered
strimmer, will probably be
arriving on Monday. In the
unlikely even we get another dry
and warm day before summer 2025,
I might make a start on trying
to get my garden looking like a
garden again using the new
strimmer.
One abandoned idea for
today was to go to a gig
tonight. I was once looking
forward to go to another Ransom
gig somewhere moderately easy to
get to, and tonight they play
The Swan in West Wickham. By
using train and bus I could get
there, and home again, without
too much angina pain, I would
only want to suffer that on a
dry and warm night. With heavy
rain expected I shall take the
cowards way out, and stay in
watching TV....or just have an
early night. I may have soup for
dinner again tonight because
that does not seem to invoke
indigestion/angina/muscular
aches and pains when I go to bed
at night.
