My
lasting impression of
yesterday was that it was
often a bit grey. There were
sunny spells, and even full
sunshine, but even then the
sky was white instead of
blue. The temperature
reached just 23° C,
and that felt good enough.
There in autumnal look to
the light this morning. If
we don't get the sunny
spells from 1pm it is going
to feel like it is autumn.
The temperature will only
rise to 21° C, and that
feels like another clue that
autumn is just around the
corner. Tomorrow might start
with a splash of light rain,
but sunny spells are
predicted to start from 7am,
and continue until sunset.
Rather remarkably it is
expected to reach 27° C
tomorrow.
Yesterday was a sort of
disaster, and it was all the fault
of that person named Lee. He was
supposed to call at about 10am to
say he was on his way here. He
actually called at 11:19am to say
he was just on his way. Using a
very frequent bus service, and
maybe a 6 or 7 minute walk at each
end, he should have arrived no
later than an hour after that
call.
It was finally getting on
towards 2pm when he arrived, and
he didn't have all the money he
owed me. I have no idea what loan
sharks he usually uses, but he
gave me £50, and said it was the
interest on the £100 he owes me. I
was not after any interest, but I
won't look a gift horse in the
mouth (which sounds a very strange
phrase to write, but not to say).
I don't think I look at it as
interest, but pay for having all
my morning, and some of the
afternoon completely wasted.
I didn't stop to spend any
quality time reading while I
waited, although with hindsight I
am not why I didn't. I didn't even
stop for any lunch. although I did
have a big snack of a 5 pack of
hot Pepperami sticks. After Lee
had come, and then gone again, I
just didn't feel in the mood to do
anything. As I said, it was close
to 2pm, and at that time I had not
even had a shower, and I was
feeling grubby.
I guess I could have had a
shower, and then gone out to get a
bit of shopping, but I just was
not in the mood for it. One extra
reason for feeling glum was that
the sky was milky white, and we
were getting very little sunshine,
and what we did get seemed to be
very hazy sunshine. That also
seemed to rule out going for a
walk - which I had fantasised
about much earlier in the morning.
I ended up doing absolutely
nothing but reading and snoozing
for the rest of the afternoon.
As dinner time approached I
considered what I might have for
dinner. I hadn't (and still
haven't) a great deal to choose
from. That triggered a memory of
something Michael said on
Thursday, while we were drinking.
The words were "spare ribs in
black bean sauce", and he said
that it is one of his favourites
from the Tai Won Mein Noodle House
in Catford. I am not sure if I
have ever eaten anything from
there before. I like my instant
noodles for breakfast, but I am
not a fan of "ethnic asian" style
noodles.
Curiosity got the better of
me, and I checked on Just Eat what
the Tai Won Mein Noodle House
actually sold. I had to scroll
down the page to find it, but I
found and ordered ribs in black
bean sauce, and two other dishes.
It seemed quite expensive, and
would have probably been a lot
cheaper if I had phones them to
place the order, and went to pick
it up. At least my expensive order
included a spare dish that should
do for dinner tonight.
What I didn't realise was
that the ribs in black bean sauce
only filled half a "standard" foil
takeaway container. The rest of
the space was filled with rice. I
only ate about a tenth of the
rice. The other main dish,
Barbecued Roast Pork, seemed like
it was all meat, but it was
sitting on a layer of Pak Choi
(Chinese cabbage). It was rather
tasty, but I worried that like the
black bean sauce, the sauce around
the barbecued pork was going to be
full of sugar.
The third dish was
Singapore Noodles. I like
Singapore rice, and I assume this
substitutes noodles for the rice.
I am expecting it to be very nice,
and hopefully quite filling when I
have it for dinner tonight. Like
yesterday, I may not eat much, or
have a formal lunch, and so the
idea of that Singapore Noodles may
not scare me too much in terms of
sugar content. This morning I
learned that last night's dinner
had not been a complete disaster.
Yesterday evening/night was
the classical, and well worn four
possible episodes of Star Trek to
watch, and then a bit later an
episode of The New Avenger to
watch and record. There was also a
repeat of an episode I had missed
of Secrets Of The London
Underground that was on at the
same time as The New Avengers. I
had to go down to the big TV and
add that, plus a few other things
while I was at it, to the timer
recordings on the TV. Hopefully it
recorded OK.
After The New Avengers
finished I headed straight to bed.
I was a bit concerned that the
Chinese meal might give me
heartburn. I did get a bit of
indigestion, but nothing serious,
and a couple of Rennie's tablets
seemed to be a 100% cure.
While I waited for them to work I
read up to the end of the chapter
in my book, and than turned the
light out. It was one of those
night where it seemed I would
never fall asleep, but I did, and
probably only a few minutes after
I was thinking I would not get to
sleep.
In theory I had a great
sleep. I can only remember getting
up in the night for a pee twice,
and then woke at just gone 6am
feeling fine. The only trouble is
that I still can't stop yawning,
and I can't wait to finish writing
this, laying down on my bed, and
closing my eyes. I am sure I will
snooze for a full hour....well,
maybe. During the night I had a
very odd dream that sometimes
seemed to be about Photo ID, and
sometimes was just about the
storage of photos. The really odd
thing is that the photo ID and the
store of photos seemed to use what
looked like a typical audio output
transistor as the storage medium.
It makes me wonder if my brain is
now on the edge of madness. On the
other hand I am sure I have had
dreams far weirder before.
This morning my weight was
up a very small amount, but I
haven't had a poo yet, and that
could halve or more the apparent
gain, and I don't seemed to have
peed much since going to bed. That
could be a good sign that I could
expect low blood glucose readings.
On the other hand, at the start of
the night my head was sweating
enough to get the pillow damp.
That might suggest a high blood
glucose level.
The curious thing is that
both theories are equally right
and wrong. My first blood glucose
readings was, as usual, using the
Contour meter, and it read
8.4mmol/l. That is fairly good, or
maybe even very good after a
Chinese takeaway. The GlucoRX
meter read even better at just
8.3mmol/l. It was looking a lot
like I had got away with it, but
then I used the Sinocare meter,
and it read 9.2mmol/l. I guess
even that is lower than I feared,
but is still not very good at all.
Only my blood pressure was good
this morning. With almost no
effort at trying to relax I got
100/46 on my first and only
reading.
I am still looking forward
to putting my feet up for an hour
after I finish this writing. Later
on it would be useful to go
shopping, but with a portion of
Singapore Noodles waiting for to
be my dinner, that shopping in not
urgent. What I may well do is to
go out this afternoon to take some
photos of a band I have never
heard of, but which sounds like
they play some good covers. They
are playing in The Shortlands
Tavern at 3pm, and apart from the
walk to and from Catford station
(further than Catford Bridge
station, but at least there are
lifts up to the platforms) it is
an easy journey, and only 3 or 4
minutes walk from Shortlands
station. The band are playing in
the garden, which is a nice
environment, and natural daylight
should make photography easy -
even if it lacks dramatic lighting
effects. I'd be a fool to waste
this photography
opportunity....but it wouldn't be
the first time, and I doubt it
would be the last time if I don't
make it.
