This morning started just a
few degrees too high for a
frost. It should warm up to
10° C this afternoon thanks
to some sunshine and sunny
spells - hopefully. There
was some sunshine filtering
across the house roofs to
the east at about 8am, but
it didn't seem to last very
long, and since then most of
the sky has been looking
very grey. The Met Office
forecast partly agrees with
the BBC forecast (the
screenshot above), and both
say today should feature
sunshine and sunny spells.
Fingers crossed ! Tomorrow
may start wet, but from 11am
it may be dry, but the sky
will remain grey for the
rest of the day. 13° C is
forecast for tomorrow
afternoon.
Yesterday was
another day where nothing
special was happening, and I
had to find things to do to
keep myself amused. One non
amusing diversion was
waiting for an Amazon
delivery which triggered a
double disappointment when
it arrived. More about that
later.
During the morning I
did little more than relax,
read, and probably snooze.
At about midday I had lunch,
and it was a healthy sort of
lunch. It was nothing more
than an apple and a chunk of
cheese. I would say it was
quite satisfying, but that
would be a bit of a
distortion to reality
because it wasn't much later
that I had a palmful of
peanuts to munch on. Lunch
was followed by a bit more
resting, but I decided I
ought to do something more
productive, and not just
doing a little bit of
washing up.
It was time to get
back to my pointless task of
finding pictures I had taken
of tube trains in the past,
and adding the train numbers
to a spreadsheet, together
with a link to a picture of
the train. I don't think I
realised how many such
pictures I had taken in
2017, and 2015. Yesterday I
mostly covered 2017, and
probably some in 2020 (I
think). I ended up with
loads of pictures from all
different tube lines. Unlike
yesterday when I almost
showed every one, I have
limited today to mostly just
one train from each tube
line.
Starting out with a
fairly brightly lit District
line train of S7 stock taken
at Blackfriars station.
Taken on the same day
at the picture of the
District line train, a
rather special day - that
I'll come to soon, this is a
Central line train departing
eastbound from Mile End
station.
Daylight photography
in a short bit of the
District Line/Hammersmith
& City line that is out
in the open after the train
has just left Bow Road
station. This train is
almost identical to a
District Line train, but is
a Hammersmith & City
line service.
The special day I
mentioned a few pictures
ago, 21st April 2017, was
the last day of service for
the last D78 District line
train. It is seen here at
Upminster as the driver
changes ends to drive it
back to Richmond, westbound.
A more plasticky
looking S7 stock district
line train heading westbound
to Wimbledon from
Blackfriars station.
The last picture
today is of a Piccadilly
Line train seen in daylight
at Sudbury Hill hill
station. These 1973 stock
trains are the oldest
running on the Underground
now, and will soon be
replaced, and I hope their
replacement will wear an
easily seen train number
with pride. It is annoying
to have to add these to my
spreadsheet as "unknown".
It was in the
middle of doing the
selecting and editing of the
tube train pictures when my
delivery from Amazon arrived
at approximately 3.30pm. I
must admit hat was earlier
than I feared it would
arrive. It was just a few
ready made leads with mini
HDMI connectors at each end.
They seemed to be a rare
sort of lead, and I soon
learned why. I was
convinced my new 10 inch TV
had a mini HDMI connector.
It didn't. It was a standard
sized connector.
So the first
annoyance was that I already
had a suitable lead to
connect the TV to quite a
few of my cameras. Having
found the correct, and more
useful length lead, I
connected my Nikon P500
camera to the TV. It worked
fine, but not how I hoped. I
had hoped I could see live
pictures from the camera,
but all I saw was what was
already on the memory card.
I tried it on a couple more
cameras, including my best
camera, the Nikon D610, and
all with the same result.
Some camera do have a
separate A/V output, and I
wonder if that provides a
live feed. I feel sure I
have seen pictures of my
Nikon D610 camera being used
for video, and with an
attached monitor to use as a
big viewfinder.
Maybe/hopefully that feed
comes out the A/V output.
One other possibility is
that maybe my Sony camcorder
may provide real time video
from it's HDMI output. I
have yet to get that
camcorder out of the
cupboard to try it, and nor
have I actually found much
use for that camcorder - it
may have been wonderful at
the time, but apart from the
nice smooth zoom control, it
is not better than a decent
mobile phone camera !
I once again found it
quite tedious going through
my archives looking for the
best pictures of underground
train, and doing any needed
editing before adding them
to my spreadsheet, plus
making a few lower
resolution version to show
hear. I hadn't finished when
I took a well deserved (or
so I thought) break for
dinner. Dinner was an
experiment. It was boiled
potatoes, part steamed
broccoli with cheese melted
over the top.
I must admit that my
original intention was to
use cauliflower instead of
broccoli until I realised I
had bough just a bag of
broccoli instead of mixed
with cauliflower. The
broccoli just didn't really
work because it's taste, and
smell (!!!) was too
overpowering. Oh well, it
was an interesting, and
theoretically a healthy
experiment. I did have a
couple of packets of crisps
as a sort of dessert to part
ruin the healthy properties
of the meal.
I watched a
documentary about the
classic album Bat Out Of
Hell from Meatloaf. It was
an interesting documentary.
That album had all the
ingredients for being
terrible, but was actually
great. Who ever thought what
was to all intents and
purposes an opera could also
be a classic rock album !
I'm not sure what time it
finished, but I do know the
following programme was of
no interest, and I was
feeling dog tired.
I think I almost went
straight to bed after I
turned the TV off, but I did
check on a few things on my
PC first. When I was in bed
I read for maybe 20 minutes
before putting the book
down, turning over, and
trying for sleep. My bedroom
was at that funny
temperature where it seemed
too cool without the duvet,
and too hot under it. I
think I fell asleep partly
uncovered. I then woke up
and tried to sleep under the
duvet because the room had
cooled down enough to make
it chilly to leave more than
one arm outside the duvet,
and yet it still felt too
hot under the duvet.
At that point I
turned the heater on low,
and seemed to sleep a lot
better like that with the
heater on low all night. In
the morning it was feeling
too cool even with the
heater on low, and for the
first time this autumn I
turned the heater up full
blast for a while so I could
feel comfortable wearing
very little as I went
through the usual routine.
During the night I think I
may have only woken twice to
go for a pee. If true, that
is a record for recent
times.
After getting up and
going to the toilet I had a
good pee, but only passed
lots of gas instead of poo.
Nevertheless, when I got on
the scales I seemed to have
lots 400gm, and it seemed I
was well on my way to
getting back to the lower
weights I achieved recently.
I guess I didn't eat a lot
yesterday, but it should
have been enough for a good
poo worth about another
couple of hundred grams - it
would have seemed an even
better weight loss. I've
eaten breakfast now, and so
there is no point bothering
to weigh myself when I
(hopefully) inevitably go
later.
The lack of peeing in
the night suggested I might
expect very good blood
glucose measurements this
morning. I did get two good
and one not so good
readings. The Contour meter
read 7.8mmol/l - a bit
higher than my current
target (7.5mmol/l) but still
very good. The GlucoRX meter
read 7.7mmol/l - a bot
closer to my target. The
Sinocare was the joker in
the pack again with a
reading of 8.2mmol/l. I
guess that is still under my
old target of 8.5mmol/l, but
just high enough to miss out
on "three cherries" - aka
all in the light green zone.
My blood pressure is nice
and low this morning, at
101/44.
One thing should
happen today. One thing may
happen, and one thing should
definitely happen. I
should/definitely need to,
wash my hair and have a
shower this morning. If
there is enough time I hope
I will get some shopping in
Aldi. Later this afternoon I
should be getting a visit
from Jodie for a beer
tasting session. There
are plenty of beers in the
fridges, but I bet she
brings more - and they will
all be nasty fruit sours !
