Until
mid evening, yesterday, the
advanced forecast for today
showed much more rain, and
several lightning bolts, but
this morning it just shows two
hours of light rain. The weather
warning does warn of
thunderstorms, but that is a
general thing that seems to
cover most of SE England. At the
moment I can see a lot of what I
think they call fair weather
cloud, but while it may have
slightly dimmed the sunshine on
one occasion, it feels like we
have had almost full sunshine so
far this morning. The chance of
rain only rises to 42 and 43% at
2 and 3pm, and that is low
enough that there may not be any
rain at all today. It will be
cooler today, but 21° C is still
fairly good. The forecast for
tomorrow currently shows full
sunshine from dawn to dusk, and
an afternoon temperature of 23°
C.
One thing I forgot to
mention in advance was that I
knew Jodie was busy, and we
would not be having an afternoon
beer tasting session. That left
me free to do anything I wanted
to do. That amounted to almost
nothing, but I did do something
that painlessly consumed a bit
of time.
I started writing very
late yesterday morning, and with
all the pictures I had to show,
it took a long time to finish -
almost up to midday. That
effectively wrote the morning
off. I thought I ought to go out
for some exercise, but whether
it was a legacy of a tiring day
the previous day, or something
completely different, I could
not raise the enthusiasm. For a
while I did think that maybe I
might go shopping, but I
couldn't even bother to do that.
I was 99.9% sure I would
not see a single soul yesterday,
and so I didn't even bother to
have a shower ! I did bother to
prepare and eat lunch. It was
two Ciabatta rolls filled with
corned beef, sliced tomato,
salad and horseradish sauce.
They were very nice, but somehow
they have now lost their novelty
value, and I feel I will move on
to something different for
lunch. In my fantasy world that
would be nothing for lunch, but
I have doubts I will manage
that.
After lunch I laid on my
bed and did some reading. I
think I probably had a snooze as
well. It was almost an accident
that caused my remaining
afternoon to filled with a new
job. It started when I saw the
date I had scribbled on a scrap
of paper. I was pretty sure that
I knew what it was - the date of
my first ever picture of a
Croydon Tram.
The picture was taken
27th September 2001, and shows
the tram in the orginal red and
white livery I was sure I must
have taken more pictures of
trams in the past, and I spent
ages looking without finding any
other pictures until this year.
For some reason I seem to have
taken quite a lot of pictures of
trams this year, and all without
setting out to take pictures of
them ! It is possible I may go
out on a deliberate tram
photography sometime soon.
Checking back through
years of pictures took up some
of yesterday, and then making a
new spreadsheet listing all 35
trams that run on the Croydon
tram system, seemed to take up
the rest of the afternoon. Like
my train spreadsheet, and also
the underground train
spreadsheet that I had forgotten
about, it shows all the trams I
have photographed with a link to
the picture I took. I think it
took me until about 5pm before I
had finished (until I take more
pictures).
I had to scratch around
to find some TV entertainment
while I had my dinner. I can't
recall having any snacks since
lunch, and I tried to continue
the healthy way when it came to
dinner. I am not sure if I
succeeded. I had a three part
dinner that started with dessert
! I had some ice cream as a
starter. It was supposed to be
just a snack until I realised
how late it was. I followed that
by a Sainsbury's ready made egg
and potato salad. It was quite
tasty. Part 3 was some fruit -
one apple, one pear, one
nectarine and one kiwi fruit.
I did manage to find a
bit of TV entertainment. It was
film - a version of Day Of The
Triffids. I am sure I have seen
far better, but I may be
confusing it with a couple of TV
and radio serialisations of the
story. Maybe one of the best was
an old radio serial that more
closely followed the book, and
had a few extra bits, or so I
believe. Maybe it helped that it
was adapted for radio by the
original writer - John Wyndham.
According to Wikipedia (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_the_triffids#Adaptations)
there has only been one film
made of the story, but quite a
lot of radio series, and several
TV series. Many will have quirks
that mean the story meanders
from the original. I have
recordings of one radio series
that I ought to try and find
time to listen to again. I
remember it as being rather
good.
I attempted an early
night last night, but I could
not get to sleep early. Maybe
sitting in front of my PC all
afternoon, and a lot of the
evening, left me too many aches
to get comfortable in bed. I
can't seem to decide if I did
get to sleep for maybe an hour,
but woke up again to take a
couple of painkillers. I may
have been confusing it with
another night, but I know I
definitely took a couple of pain
killers last night. I am not
sure they were needed because I
seemed to fall asleep faster
than they would have taken
effect.
Once or twice yesterday
afternoon, and maybe early
evening, I thought I seemed to
be peeing more than usual. That
may have been the case because I
didn't seem to pee much during
the night - either in frequency
and or quantity. I did have one
dream where I dreamed I was
doing a big pee. I woke up from
the dream, and worried that I
might have peed the bed.
Fortunately my record still
stands at not peeing the bed for
the last 67 or 68 years ! Having
woken up, checked for dampness
(and found none) I raced to the
toilet where nothing happened.
One other dream I
remember was a bit strange
because it was like I was
writing a story, and considering
various plot lines. It was about
a school where a class was seen
to be looking up at some planes
flying overhead. The teacher
thought that maybe the pupils
wanted to be pilots. He arranged
with the local RAF station for
the class of 20, 10 a day, to
have a go at the flight
simulators there. Half the first
ten who performed worse were to
be sent back to school.
The 5 from the second ten
were sent back to school. The
remaining 10 were there then out
through the simulators more
intensely. Half of those were
told they may have a future as
civilian pilots. The final 5
were put through more intensive
simulator training. A few were
put on a list of definite future
RAF pilots, but a few failed
because in one exercise they
refused to shoot down a gunman
taking pot shots at them.
It was a very curious
dream, and I am unsure how much
of that basic storyline was part
of a dream, and how much I may
have added to it while awake -
maybe even while peeing. I guess
a lot of it was inspired by the
book I am reading about the
Apollo moon landings. Most of
the astronauts were from
military backgrounds and had
spent time on simulators - both
military and for the moon
landings (although the actual
details were glossed over
because they were not part of
the main narrative).
Even when I got up I only
had a small pee this morning,
and as a result (at least I
think it was a result of it) I
seemed to have put on 800gm this
morning. I didn't help that I
didn't poo. I can't recall
pooing much yesterday, and so
some of the weight gain may have
been poo retention too. I have
had a semi decent poo since, but
it was after breakfast, and
there is no point on getting on
the scales and weighing me and
my breakfast.
Having the ice cream and
fruit in the early evening
probably did little of my blood
glucose. The contour meter read
8.3mmol/l, and that is fairly
good, but I had hoped for a lot
better. The GlucoRX meter gave a
very different reading to the
other two. It was 7.0mmol/l, and
that is about as low as I dared
believe possible. The Sinocare
meter agreed more with teh
Contour meter. It read
8.6mmol/l. That is OK, but
nothing to celebrate.
At least my blood
pressure is very good this
morning. Admittedly on my second
attempt, it read 101/45. It is
that time again when I wonder
aloud what I am going to do
today. Although it shows
no rain for 1pm, there is still
a 21% chance of rain. Somehow it
would seem to be tempting fate
to say that means it won't rain.
The chance of rain at 2 and 3pm
increases to 42 and 43%, and
that is in the "maybe" sort of
range. It does not encourage me
to go.
I may still go out for a
little bit of shopping, and will
probably do it with no
precautions. I predict I will
probably go to the station to
pick up a copy of The Metro, and
then come home via the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge. I
definitely want some more Polish
goulash flavour instant noodles.
I had them for breakfast, and
with some scotch bonnet chilli
sauce they were super delicious.
No doubt I would get other
flavours too. I also want to top
up my fruit , and usually that
is a great place to get tasty
fruit (although the last
nectarines needed at least 3 or
4 days to ripen enough to be
enjoyable).
