On the
BBC news last night the weather
section suggested that there
could be a thunderstorm today,
but this morning's version of
the forecast only gives a chance
of 8% of any rain today.
For most of the day, perhaps all
daylight hours, there
should/could be blue skies and
strong sunshine. For all that
only 23° C is predicted.
Tomorrow is probably going to be
exactly the same as today with
just one small change - a
maximum of just 22° C.
I think I can describe
yesterday as "satisfactory" -
not as good as good, but not as
bad as bad. Maybe satisfactory
plus would be more correct. I
did some useful stuff, and the
day slipped by easily. I even
seemed to get to sleep a bit
earlier last night.
I managed to start
writing earlier yesterday, and I
only wrote 1,774, and so I might
have finished earlier, but I did
take a break to research
Triffids - in book, film and
radio. That probably delayed my
finish by perhaps 20 minutes. I
also went for my first (of
several) poos of the day in the
middle of writing, and that was
an extra delay. None of that
mattered because I was not
racing against the clock.
After I finished writing
I had my usual lie down where I
read for a bit, and although I
can't seem to remember it
specifically, I may well have
had a snooze. After that I had a
shower, and then slowly prepared
to go out. It was not going to
be a long walk. I went to the
station to pick up a copy of The
Metro, and then went to the
little supermarket on Catford
Bridge for a few provisions.
This time it was just
some apples and oranges from the
fruit section. A load of packets
of instant noodles in assorted
flavours. A few unusual things
were a very small tin of
harissa
paste, and three 330ml
cans of sugar free soft drinks.
The latter included cream soda
flavour, pineapple flavour, and
a weird one - birthday cake
flavour (it probably has cherry
flavour as a predominant taste).
One thing I was not
expecting was the walk back home
to be almost OK. I never felt
the need to actually stop, and I
think I kept up a fair speed -
possibly close to 3mph. I'll
admit I was relieved to get
home, but I was not suffering
any very bad effects - just some
not too bad negative effects.
Sometimes it made me think that
one day it would just be a
pleasant stroll again.
I think it was about 1pm
when I arrived home, and so the
first thing I did after putting
my shopping away, was to make up
a couple of Ciabatta rolls for
lunch. Yesterday I filled them
with ham, mustard, and salad
leaves. They were not terribly
exciting, and there was even a
very slight possible negative
quality. The unopened packet of
slice ham was a week past it's
use by date, and while it didn't
stink, it did smell a bit stale.
Some bits of it didn't taste
right. I wondered if it might
trigger a forced expulsion of my
digestive tract.
It probably didn't need
rotten ham to give me a clear
out. I had started yesterday
without doing a poo, but I did
have a semi decent poo while
writing. Before I could start to
eat my rolls I had a rather
bigger poo. When I go on the
scales, while only wearing
underpants as I changed into
indoor clothes, I was very happy
to see that my weight was
actually a bit less than before
I had breakfast. A little bit of
sweat after walking in hot
sunshine helped that a bit.
I still seemed to be very
relaxed about the time, and
spent some time reading The
Metro newspaper I had picked up
at the station. I also made a
start on the quick crossword. I
think it was maybe an hour or
two later, when I was about to
tackle the cryptic crossword,
that I solved the final clue of
the quick crossword. It felt
good to complete it. Sadly, I
only managed to solve 6 of the
cryptic clues. I think I got
disheartened when after quickly
solving 3 clues it seemed to
give me extreme brain ache to
solve the next 3. I thought I
might return to it later, but I
never did.
The one other thing of
importance that I did yesterday
afternoon was tow ash one
t-shirt, one pair of lunge pants
and 4 pairs of underpants. I did
it is two parts. I could have
done it all in one go, but I
think it was part boredom, and
part still seeming to have
plenty of time. I got it all
finished, and ready to hang up
to dry on the washing line, but
it would only have hung in the
diminishing sun for maybe 3
hours, and I had locked up
downstairs an hour before
sunset. I hung up the washing to
dry on the clothes horse
indoors.
As soon as I had finished
hanging up the washing I put a
smelly kitchen hand towel, and
another hand towel into soak
overnight in bio detergent. Then
I treated myself to some ice
cream. I finished off the tub.
It was a bigger helping than
intended, but if I had divided
it into two it would have been
too small. Therefore I ate the
lot in a devil may care
attitude. I was surprised that
if it had any effect it was a
positive one this morning.
My actual dinner, eaten
mostly while watching the BBC 6
O'clock news, was theoretically
a double portion. One portion
was a Sainsbury's ready made
cheese salad, and the other was
one of their "Greek inspired"
salad. They seem to have changed
the recipe for the Greek salad,
and maybe for the better
(although I suspect it was
veering away from any
authenticity).
I managed to get to sleep
a bit earlier last night, and it
could have been earlier still.
It was almost 9pm when I started
to feel uncomfortable, and
needed the toilet. It was not
explosive although it was
uncontrolled once it started,
but I did quite pile of poo. I
was not sure if that was going
to be it for the day, and I was
reluctant to get relaxed in bed
until I was sure that it was all
there was to it. I don't really
know what time it was that I
tried to sleep. It may have been
around 10pm, but it probably
took me half an hour before I
fell into a deep sleep.
There is not a lot I can
say about my sleep. I know I got
up fairly frequently to pee, and
I feel sure that I had a part
one and part two dream either
side of that pee. The two dreams
were about being in a pub. The
pub had light oak panelling
everywhere. Each panel was
square with a sort of low dome
in the middle. I am unsure what
my inspiration for this was. It
was definitely like no other pub
I can remember going in, in real
life.
I think it was in part
one of the dream that I was with
a lot of friends and "people I
know". There was some
forgettable banter, but nothing
more. It felt like I was there
for as much as an hour, but I
feel sure it actually only
lasted a minute or two in real
world time. Part two of the
dream was to do with ordering a
beer. I asked the barman
what ales were on, and didn't
get a straight reply. He
suggested I might like to dare
try a special extra strong beer
they brewed in house.
I was served up a third
of a pint. It was quite cloudy,
but after drinking some of the
weird beers that Jodie likes
that didn't bother me at all. I
think I was told it was about
15% - which is extremely strong
for a beer. It was rather nice !
What I wasn't told was that it
was part of a challenge, and
everyday the pub would add money
to a kitty that went to the
first one who drank it. I was
rewarded about £40 - which was
also very nice.
I was going to order a
half pint of it, but the barman
said only one third of a pint
per customer per day was
allowed. I asked what else they
had. he said there were a few
beers dues to be put on once
they had been checked. It was
evidently one of those very rare
pubs where the "cellar" is above
the bar, and when I looked up I
could see clear plastic pipe
coming through holes drilled in
what looked like brick
arch.
The barman selected on
pipe, and attached the end to
what looked like a huge water
filled syringe (but huge I mean
about a yard long). He then
squirted the water and the start
of the beer into a sink.
Initially it came out green as
if filled with algae, but was
soon running clear with a slight
green tint. He filled a pint
glass and I had a taste. I think
it tasted good, but I was
starting to wake up at that
point, and I was awake before
the dream might have finished.
I woke up just after 5am
this morning, and it felt like
I could get up, but I
thought it was too early. I had
a pee and went back to bed. I
didn't think I would get to
sleep again, but suddenly it was
a few minutes to 7am, and I
almost leapt out of bed to take
screenshots of the weather
forecast before I lot an hour of
it. I then had a pee, but no
poo, and then washed my hands
with the usual strong anti
bacterial soap I use before
checking my blood glucose.
The amount of pee I
seemed to have done during the
night should have meant, by the
usual lore, that my blood
glucose was quite high. It was
not ! The Contour meter read
7.8mmol/l, and that is almost
very good. The GlucoRX meter
read 7.4mmol/l, and that is
definitely good. The Sinocare
meter read between the other
two, which is very rare. I read
7.6mmol/l.
I then counted out my
pills for the day. When I had
finished that I went to the
toilet again. What I thought was
going to be a poo was just wind,
but I did have another small
pee. I then got on the scales,
and was delighted to read what
they were saying. It seems I
have lost 800gm since yesterday
morning. My weight is now back
to what it was exactly a month
ago. Of course it has been up
and down a lot in that last 30
days, but there remains a chance
that if I can have another
couple of days like yesterday I
might get the units digit to
flip to one less in a day or
two. On the other hand I was
helped by a lot of copious
pooing yesterday, and the
chances are it will be like I am
constipated today.
My breakfast this morning
was a double (small) helping in
one bowl of "Chinese chicken"
flavour instant noodles made by
Vifon. They were nice enough,
but I failed to taste anything
that would suggest Chinese
cooking. The good thing about
Vifon banded noodles is that
they usually contain a little
sachet of oil or grease
flavouring. It mostly gives the
noodles a nice soft and slippery
texture without being overtly
greasy. The two packets were
among those I bought yesterday.
I thought that my
activities today may be
constrained by the delivery of a
few items I ordered form Amazon
yesterday. It is very unusual to
get free delivery the next day
without signing up to "Prime",
but a 24 pack of AA batteries is
supposed to be delivered today,
but my guess is it will be an
evening delivery. Another item,
a 12 pack of hot sauce bottles,
was originally predicted to be
delivered today as well, but it
is now more sensibly shown to be
delivered in another day or two.
I think I shall be safe to do
whatever I please for most of
today.
I am thinking of going
for a longer walk today. I am
contemplating trying for maybe 3
miles in the Linear Park, but I
would also like to do some
shopping, and I think the
shopping may win. I want to get
to Savers to top up on a few
vitamins and similar, plus
shower gel, and toilet cleaner.
After Savers I would cross the
way to go into Poundstretcher to
see what they have in there. I
am hoping they may have more
sugar free drinks in stock, and
some of their instant noodles
would be handy for the future,
plus anything else that takes my
fancy in there.
