Yesterday
was dry, very warm, and very sunny.
The temperature may have reached 24°
C, although only 23° C was forecast.
The alleged slight chance of a
thunderstorm may have been true
elsewhere, but there was hardly a
cloud in the sky around here.
Today
should be like a slightly (one
degree) warmer version of
yesterday. The sky is, and
should remain blue, and the sun
should be burning down all day
long. It may still only reach
24° C. Tomorrow should stay dry,
but the morning may be very
cloudy. The cloud may start to
thin at 1pm, and we'll get the
first sunny spells of the day. 7
and 8pm may feature full
sunshine. It will be a much
cooler day, but not cold. 17° C
is forecast.
I think I can describe
yesterday as "satisfactory" -
again ! It was not very
productive, but it was
productive enough. I didn't take
a lot of advantage of the hot
sunshine, but I did take some
advantage of it. It was probably
the evening that was least
productive.
Like the day before,
yesterday was another mostly
relaxed sort of day. There was
no rush to do anything, and
maybe that helped to get a bit
more done....possibly. I seemed
to write quite a lot yesterday
morning, and so it was around
10.30am before I finished and
could put my feet up for half an
hour (or was it an hour ?). Once
I was back in action I had a
basic shave, and then washed my
hair, because it was feeling
greasy from some sweat in these
warmer days. I then had a
shower.
One of my worries was
that I was expecting an Amazon
delivery yesterday, and I had a
feeling it might come early
rather than mid evening. I
wanted to get some shopping in,
and feared I might miss the
delivery. I got myself dressed,
and as I was about to go
downstairs I spotted what could
be an Amazon delivery taking
place down the road, but I could
not see the delivery van. I
pondered the idea that it might
have just been someone re-using
a box with the Amazon logo on
it.
I polished the lenses of
my sun glasses, stuffed an extra
bag into my rucksack, and then
put on the rucksack. I opened
the front door, and before I
could turn around to lock the
door a man, evidently from
Amazon, handed me my packet. The
timing, mine and his, was very
right yesterday. It was a pack
of 24 Duracell AA batteries -
some of which I would use later.
My original plan was to
walk to the station to pick up a
copy of The Metro, and then walk
to the shopping centres to go in
Savers and then Poundstretcher.
Now my new, wide fitting,
trainers are starting to get
comfortable I thought I would do
a bit more walking in the
trainers I bought from Tesco.
They did get more comfortable
after changing the laces to
those that would allow a bit
more movement, but yesterday
they seemed very uncomfortable -
not exactly painful, but they
seemed to make my ankles ache.
Instead of going to the
station I walked directly to
Savers. Apart from the foot and
ankle ache, it was nice walking
in the sunshine (until I went
through the gloom of the multi
storey car park). Maybe the sun
was a bit more enjoyable because
I was walking slower than usual
because of those trainers. It
was like wearing wooden boxes
instead of a shoe. I think it is
only when trying to take
long(ish) strides that they are
uncomfortable. They seem fine
for standing still in.
In Savers I bought a
typical selection of vitamins,
toothpaste, personal cleaning
stuff, and household cleaning
stuff. I then crossed the way to
Poundstretcher. I was hoping to
get some zero sugar fizzy drinks
in there, but all they had was
some sugar free Irn Bru cans,
and I already have a few of them
in the fridge. I did buy a few
food items, and some large
sticking plasters to go over my
bunion.
One thing I wanted was
going to be something like a
large salad bowl. I actually
wanted it to use as a fruit bowl
to help keep things like apples
out of easy reach by mice - not
that I have seen any evidence of
the mouse ever touching fruit
that was just left on the work
top. All I found was described
as a mixing bowl. It looks a bit
weird, but it seems to do
exactly what I wanted. With
hindsight, I think Tesco have
some large pyrex mixing bowls
that would look rather better
than plastic.
The walk home was just as
bad as the walk to the shops,
and I was very happy to get home
again. Once indoors, and only
walking very short distances,
those trainers seemed to feel
mostly OK. After putting my
shopping away I changed into
indoor clothes. While I was
stripped to my underpants I got
on the scales again. My weight
seemed nice and low
(comparatively speaking).
I had an idea that I
would try and keep my weight
down. Instead of a couple of
rolls for lunch I had a couple
of small (60gm) pots of instant
noodles. The nutritional panel
on the pot says they have less
than 0.5gm of sugar, and only 54
calories per pot. That should
have been a better option than a
couple of filled rolls.
Later on I did have a couple of
small (25gm) packets of crisps,
but even they should not have
been all that bad.
One of my tasks yesterday
afternoon was to finish washing
a couple of hand towels, and
hang them on the washing line to
dry in the sunshine. I am not
sure what time I finished the
job, but it was probably a bit
after 3pm. That allowed plenty
of time for them to dry in the
strong sunshine. I brought them
in just before 6pm, and they
were bone dry and feeling warm
to the touch.
Another little job for
the afternoon was to get out my
two trail cameras, and set them
up. That included fresh
batteries, and setting the
correct time. I wanted them to
watch two views in the kitchen.
I knew they were sensitive
enough to activate on the heat
of a small mouse, and I wanted
to see if I could catch the
mouse in action. I had not seen
any new droppings for a day or
two, and I wondered if the mouse
was even still active. I am
happy to say that the cameras
were not triggered at all,
except by me, from about 7pm
last night to 7am this morning.
Maybe the mouse has somehow
moved on, or it has finally
died. It may have starved to
death because I made it very
difficult for it to get to any
food, or maybe it has stashed a
lot of food in some discrete
place, and doesn't need more
food for now. I will set the
cameras for the next few nights
to see if they catch anything.
It had been my intention
to spend a bit of the afternoon
reading The Metro, and
attempting the crossword
puzzles, but I didn't get a
copy. Instead I filled in some
gaps of the day with laying on
my bed reading. The afternoon
seemed to pass very smoothly,
and before I knew it, it was
time to put my dinner in the
microwave in time to eat it
while watching the BBC 6 O'clock
news. It was a Tesco, Chicken
Vindaloo ready meal.
It was probably the
most unhealthy thing I ate all
day (in terms of sugar content
and calorie content), although
it didn't seem to be that bad. I
followed it with some fruit - an
apple, a large orange and a
pear. I put the peal into the
temporary waste food "bin" (a 2
litre ice cream container),
rinsed the curry container and
put that in the bin. I got a 2
litre bottle of chilled tap
water from the fridge, turned
the train cameras on, and then
locked up downstairs.
I tried to watch Star
Trek: Voyager after the BBC
News, but it was a rather
tedious episode, and I probably
spent more time looking at the
internet. After Voyager I read
my book for some time, but
returned to the TV at 9pm to
watch another repeat from 2017
of Have I Got News For You. That
finished at 10pm, and I went to
bed. I was going to read, but
realised I felt too tired of
that, although I did stay awake
for long enough to go to the
toilet. I had only done one
small poo during the day, and it
seemed like I might need to do
another - and indeed, with some
patience, I did do another small
poo.
The fact that I remember
so little about it suggests that
I probably fell asleep very
quickly once I had turned out
the light, and found a
comfortable sleeping position.
Last night felt different, and I
am not sure why. I woke at
similar intervals to pee as
usual. I can't remember any good
dreams, but I can remember that
I did have dreams even if none
were memorable enough to try and
remember them.
Maybe the only real
oddity, although there is
precedent for it, was that at
about 4:50am I woke up, went for
a pee, and then it took well
over half an hour before I got
back to sleep - at least I think
it did, but I have to admit I
could have dreamed I was awake.
I woke again at about 6am, and
tried to go back to sleep again,
but this time I failed, and I
got up at about 6:20am.
After checking and
recording my body temperature
(35.2° C) I went to the toilet,
and only did a pee. I then
weighed myself, and I seemed to
have gained a lot of weight
despite believing that most of
what I had eaten didn't add up
to anything bad. A bit later,
after counting out my daily
pill, I went to the toilet
again, and this time did a
trickle of pee and a small poo.
When I weighed myself again it
wasn't quite so bad, but I
still seemed to have put on
500gm in 24 hours.
It initially looked like
my blood glucose was a bit
higher than hoped for, but I
re-did the Contour meter, and on
the second attempt it said a
very good 7.1mmol/l. The GlucoRX
meter read an almost as good
7.3mmol/l. Even the Sinocare
meter was playing the game
again. It gave a good reading of
7.7mmol/l, although that is a
bit higher than the other two.
With a string of warm and sunny
days (except tomorrow) ahead it
might be possible, if I try
really hard, to start getting
some readings in the rarely seen
sixes, but it would need a lot
of discipline.
The main thing on the
menu today is to go for my
regular lunchtime in The Jolly
Farmers, for my 2 pints of
Guinness, and trying to do the
quick and cryptic crosswords in
The Metro. I think I am going to
walk to the pub and back again
rather than get the train. I
need nothing from the little
supermarket on Catford Bridge,
and so I may as well go straight
home through the park. I shall
have a camera with me, and I
expect I will make frequent
stops to take pictures, and have
a very short
breather...probably.
