It
should be back to summer today !
There are still a lot of random
clouds around, but the sun has
been shining non stop for the
last hour or so, and the
forecast says we should have
full sunshine all day long. Even
with a lively breeze (at times)
coming from the north east, we
should still see 20° C today.
Tomorrow may start a bit grey,
but if the forecast has any
credibility sunny spells should
start from 7am, and by 11am
there may be full sunshine for
the rest of the day. The
temperature should reach 21° C.
Yesterday morning was
very slightly stressful as I
waited for my two deliveries
from an Amazon order. Otherwise
it seemed like a fairly good
morning until it became
increasingly clear that the
weather was going to be horrible
all day instead of just a few
hours in the morning.
I started writing
unusually early yesterday. I had
made sure I got up modestly
early because there is, or was,
one Parcel Force driver who can
start deliveries after about
7.30am. I knew one of my
deliveries would definitely be
dome by parcel Force because it
was a box of 12 bottles of Hot
Pepper Sauce, and from past
experience I knew they would be
very well wrapped and put into
quite a big cardboard box. It
would be too big and heavy for
the postman.
I think that delivery
happened at about 10:30am. I
wondered if my other, smaller
and lighter parcel would come
with it, but it didn't. That
latter parcel was delivered
(strictly it was re-delivered
because I was out the first time
he tried to deliver it) by my
usual Postman at about 12:30pm -
a little earlier than the
attempt the previous day at 1pm.
It was handy that it arrived a
little early.
The rest of my morning
was pretty typical. After I
finished writing I had my usual
rest, and then I had a shower.
After that it was just a matter
of waiting for the Postman. Once
I had my parcel I got dressed to
go out. The temperature was
almost chilly, but I still wore
my shorts. Transferring all the
stuff, keys, wallet, and more
from the shorts to a pair of
jeans seemed too much trouble
when I hoped that today I would
be back in shorts - and it seems
I will be !
Once dressed I headed out
to Tesco. I wore an old pair of
cheap supermarket (Aldi if I
remember correctly) trainers.
They are thin and soft, and are
worn to the extent I have to use
a new insole with them. In one
sense they are not particularly
comfortable to wear, but they
seem more comfortable to walk
fast in. Maybe it was
coincidence that I had no
food/ankle/leg aches as I walked
to and from Tesco. I am hoping
the new trainers I am expecting
to be delivered today may be
better in terms of ankle pain
even if they rub in a few places
(but not so bad that a sticking
plaster is enough to stop any
blisters).
There was one strange
thing I wanted from Tesco, and
it was a large pork pie. I don't
know how the brain worm got in,
but it did, and I had an unusual
craving for a pork pie.
Unfortunately the only one I
could find in Tesco was not a
very good one, but with nothing
else on offer I bought it
anyway. I bought quite a few
other things ranging from cheese
to a frozen ready meal, and the
usual four bottles of Diet Coke
(2 litre size).
I was still thinking
along the lines that it was all
a bit of rush yesterday
afternoon, but in fact I had far
more time than I thought (and
that didn't include Jodie
missing her train again, and
getting here half an hour late).
Once I was home, and had put my
shopping away, and changed back
into indoor clothes, I made some
lunch. I had two Ciabatta rolls
- one with ham and the other
beef (using the end of a packet
of sliced beef).
I then did the washing
up, and generally tidied the
kitchen and dining room table
(although the latter really
deserved a good scrub to get rid
of old beer stains, and the bits
of dinner that Jodie is always
dropping on the tablecloth). I
could then lie down and relax. I
think I may have even closed my
eyes for a while ! I then went
down to the dining room, and
decided it was cool enough in
there for running the heater at
half power for an hour or two.
While I waited for Jodie
I did an update on the old iMac
computer that now runs Linux and
mostly is used as a music
player. I listed to a fair
amount of the
Blondie
album "Autoamerican". I
remember I bought the CD in a
charity shop, possibly for just
£1, but I don't think I listed
to much from it until yesterday.
Apart from a couple of tracks,
including the two hit singles
taken for it, I can't really say
there was anything I liked about
it. I think I preferred their
punk rock years.
I think I only heard a
couple of tracks when Jodie sent
me a text message to say she had
missed the train, but would be
on the next one. I guess that
only made her 15 minutes
late.....or not late at all
because she seemed to have all
her lunch with her, and didn't
need to go shopping in Catford
for stuff to eat. Of course what
she had still needed preparing
and stuff, and I had a soft
drink while I waited for her to
get ready for some booze.
I don't think I
appreciated how low my beers
stocks were getting yesterday,
but when it came to Jodie having
to drink beers she had already
tried before I knew it would
soon be time to order more. For
me there were plenty of beers to
glug away at. Some were even
very nice ! One we had had ended
up at the back of the small
fridge. I think it was Jodie
didn't expect to like it. It was
a Belgium "Blonde" ale, and I
think we both agreed it was
rather good. It was almost a
wheat beer, but had no banana
like taste, but did have
coriander and a light floral
taste. It was quite a complex
taste, and very nice.
Michael joined us after
about an hour. he seemed to be
semi cheerful, but he is just
too distracted by other events,
although it could also be seen
as some sort of developing
dementia (which his wife suffers
from in a more serious form). It
seemed to take ages to describe
to Michael about the
Brockley
Max event that is
happening at the end of the
month. The headline act, as far
as we were concerned, will be
Guns 2 Roses - the very
authentic Guns And Roses cover
band whose lead singer live in
the Brockley area.
For some reason, Michael
couldn't seem to understand that
although the stage was behind
The Bromley Barge pub, it is not
inside the pub, but a temporary
stage set up in what might be a
car park area (I have never
actually been there so I am not
certain). It is free to watch,
but there are no tables and
chairs for Michael to sit on. he
came up with many reasons why he
will not be going. I think Jodie
will be, but they start at
9.30pm, and the chances are that
by then I will be in my
underwear just prior to going to
bed !
Jodie left to get the
6.30pm train, and Michael left
just after 6.30pm. I think it
was just after 6pm that I put my
dinner in the oven. It was a
frozen beef hot pot ready meal,
and it was supposed to be heated
in the oven for 45 minutes.
After saying goodbye to Michael,
and clearing away the glasses
and such, I retried my dinner
from the oven. It did not seem
to be very hot, and I had a
funny feeling that I may have
set the time to 25 minutes
instead of 45 minutes. It
spoiled it a bit, but is still
seemed edible. I suspect it
would have been a lot nicer if
it had been in the oven for long
enough for the sliced potato on
top to get almost crispy brown.
I watched the last of the
BBC news while I ate, and then
watched Star Trek: Voyager -
another tedious episode. I had
some ice cream for a dessert at
the start of Voyager. When it
had ended I searched for other
stuff to watch, but there seemed
not a lot that I fancied
watching except for another
repeat of a repeat of a repeat
etc etc of The Avengers.
After that I could have watched
an old episode of QI, but it
didn't look very exciting, or at
least the guests were not the
best there have been.
I headed for bed at 9pm,
but it might have been a couple
more hours before I seriously
tried to sleep. Much of the time
I was reading, but I made
frequent visits to the toilet. I
felt sort of constipated. I knew
I wanted to go, but nothing
would shift. I could feel poo
just, or so I imagined, a few
inches from the exit. I did
eventually manage to pass a few
pebble sized bits of poo, and
decided to give up trying then.
It took a bit of time to get
relaxed in bed, but at some
unknown time, but probably not a
lot later than 10pm, I fell
asleep.
As far as I can recall, I
only woke up three times in the
night (not counting the very
short period of sleep I had
after waking up and going back
to sleep for maybe 20 minutes
before getting up). One each
occasion, except the time I am
not counting, I seemed to do
some very big pees. It was
enough that when I weighed
myself I was pleased to see I
had only gained 200gm since
yesterday morning, and failure
to have a single decent poo in
that time probably accounted for
some of the 200gm.
I knew that the beer, and
the ice cream I had last night,
and to lesser extent, the ready
meal, would mean mean my blood
glucose was going to be a bit
high this morning, and it was,
although one one of the three
meters, the Sinocare meter pf
course, gave a worrying reading.
The Contour meter read 8.2mmol/l
- higher than the last three
days, but still not too bad. The
GlucoRX meter read 8.8mmol/l.
That is definitely a little bit
high, but nothing to worry about
(particularly for a one off as
it is today). The Sinocare meter
seems very non linear. It tends
to agree with the others for
readings under 8.0mmol/l, but
amplifies readings over. This
morning it was a rather high
9.5mmol/l - very different to
the other two, but still just
under the red line at
10.0mmol/l.
I have now had a fairly
decent poo, and I feel better
for it, although it was after
breakfast, and so I can't weigh
myself again. Although I feel
better for it, there is still a
sort of feeling there is more to
come. That will restrict what I
may do today. Maybe I might feel
safe to go out for a few hours
later if I do manage another
nice big poo. At the moment it
is all academic because I am
restricted by the belief that my
newest trainers will be
delivered again. The last thing
I saw was that they had reached
the final delivery depot at just
gone 5am this morning. I would
have assumed that would be
plenty of time for them to be
out for delivery today, but so
far I am waiting for more
information.
I guess little more than
15 minutes have passed since I
wrote in the last paragraph that
I "expected more to come".
I was very right. I have just
paid another visit to the
toilet, and it was very
productive, and yet, after not
really doing much yesterday, and
maybe a bit the day before that,
I don't think I am anywhere near
empty yet !
If I do get out today I
think it may be a tram
spotting/photography day. I have
this vague plan I will get the
tram from Elmers End to the
Wandle Park tram stop. From
there I should be able to get
pictures of trams going to
Addington as well as Elemers End
and Beckenham Junction. With
trams being so frequent in the
central part of the network I
could fill in many empty spaces
in my spreadsheet. There are
only 35 or 36 trams on the
system, and it can't take long
to fill in those empty spaces.
There is also a small park,
Wandle Park, by the tram stop,
and it looks like it is worth a
visit.
