The
weather forecast for today looks
like it was actually for
yesterday. It is quite dull now,
and the first sunshine should
appear at midday. It will be 4pm
before we get full sunshine -
assuming the forecast is
accurate. It possibly is
accurate because the BBC
forecast (screenshot above) is
very similar to the Met Office
forecast (which often seems to
be for somewhere else than
Catford) Today should be dry,
and the temperature should reach
19° C. Tomorrow may see things
reversed - strong sunshine all
morning, and then just sunny
spells in the afternoon. The
afternoon temperature should
reach a pleasant 22° C.
Yesterday turned out to
be completely different to what
I had planned. It was a lot to
do with the depressing dull grey
skies, and also because I was
technically constipated,
although strangely enough I
didn't actually feel that way.
More on this unpleasant stuff
later.
As I was writing
yesterday morning I had this
stupidly optimistic idea that
the sunny spells might start at
the forecast time of 9am. At 8am
the clouds looked too thick to
break up soon, and at 9am it was
obvious that we would have to be
patient to see any sign that the
sun was still alive. Not only
was it dull, but the dullness
made it feel quite chilly. A few
months back 15° C would have
felt like a heatwave, but on a
dull day, and with a bit of
light wind, it felt chilly.
After I had finished
writing yesterday's piece I had
my usual rest while I
contemplated life, the universe
and everything. I still had a
very simplistic belief that it
could turn sunny, and with that
in mind I washed my hair and had
a shower. I was all ready to go
out, but the idea of a long,
double bus ride under a grey and
sullen sky did not appeal. There
was also the problem that I had
not done a single poo since
sometime the day before. It had
to happen at some time, and I
hoped I would not be on a slow
bus when the feeling started.
I gave up on the idea
that I would go all the way to
Ye Olde Whyte Lyon to see The
Sisters Of The Moon (Jo and her
friend Susan) playing, and
decided on a different action
plan. First of all I put some
laundry in to soak in detergent.
The next thing was to put on
long trousers because itw as
cold outside, and to go to Aldi
to get what ended up as quite a
lot of shopping.
I was wearing my new
Adidas trainers to walk to and
from Aldi. One thing I did
before I put them on was to
re-lace the laces. They seemed
very tight at the toe end, and
after loosening them off it gave
a bit more room for my toes. It
made the walk to and from Aldi
far more comfortable because the
toes on my right foot were not
rubbing. It was not perfect
comfort, but it didn't get worse
the more I walked.
My legs felt a bit stiff
in the cold air, and so I
couldn't walk too fast, but I
was definitely not being held
back by those new Adidas
trainers. I think I was feeling
quite good when I got to Aldi.
Of course I was soon pissed off
when I had to squeeze through
the gap left by a very
inconsiderate driver parked on
the pavement. My actually
shopping was only a tiny bit bad
in so much as I think I might
have got carried away buying a
bit more than needed.
Carrying two 4 packs of
beer (one bottles, and the other
cans) added to the weight I was
carrying. I don't think it
slowed me up too much, but I was
feeling the effort when I got
home. Once I had put away my
shopping I had a big selection
of stuff I could have for lunch
- something I had originally
hoped to skip if I had gone to
the gig. Ideally I would have
had a couple of Ciabatta rolls
because I have 6 left to eat
before they start to go stale. I
actually had a smallish big pork
pie with some crisps.
After lunch I laid down,
and I think I had a snooze. I
also read for a while. It was
several hours into the
afternoon, and we were just
starting to get the sunny spells
we should have had by mid
morning. I returned to my
laundry, and I kept wanting to
stop doing it for a rest, but in
the end I finished it all, and
hung it on the clothes horse to
dry, assisted by a desk fan.
At 4pm, the time the gig
would have been finishing, and I
would be getting a bus home, it
was actually quite bright, and
we were starting to get some
long spells of sunshine. It felt
like all of sudden we had
switched from spring to summer
(albeit a slightly poor excuse
for a summer day), and it did
sort of feel quite cheerful. It
also felt like the sort of
weather I was hoping for to get
the bus to the gig.
It is lucky I did not go
for another reason. All the
bending over the bath tub to get
the washing out of my big
builders buckets, seemed to act
something like a pump. I was
soon farting, and those farts
were disgustingly ripe. I was
very happy to be in private when
they were unleashed. I assumed,
wrongly, that it was now time
for the poo I had been expecting
all day long. It never happened
no matter how much I tried. I
had more gaseous emissions now
and then until I was asleep in
bed.
I had a wide choice of
dinner, but after having the
pork pie for lunch I thought I
ought to throttle back a bit. I
had a small pack of BBQ chicken
wings as a starter. They were,
as expected, mostly bone, and
the meat from the entire pack
was barely enough to make a
sandwich. The main course was
some marmalade flavoured pork
pâté with rice crackers. I must
admit I bought that pâté to see
if it was as horrid as I
expected it to be - I really
don't like marmalade. It was not
awful, but I will never buy any
again. My dessert was a couple
of small, golf ball sized,
oranges, a large Conference
pear, and a now nicely ripening
nectarine.
I think it was the big
Conference pear, but I was
actually feeling nicely full
after my dessert. It left me
feeling a bit sleepy, but I
stayed up to watch a 2023
edition of Have I Got News For
You. It was nice to see
something a bit more up to date
than all the 2017 editions that
Dave has been showing. It
finished at 10pm and I went
straight to bed. I read a couple
of pages, but my eyes were
drooping. I turned out the light
at 10:30pm, and I think I was
fast asleep 15 minutes later.
I had a SciFi dream last
night. I can't recall all the
details, but it seemed to be
about a rocketship that had
landed on farmland instead of
the nearby rocket landing pads.
It was approached my a
councillor and the farmer who
wanted it to take off after
paying towards the damage it had
done to the field. No one came
out of the rocket, and no words
were spoken. The growing theory
was that it was not from Earth.
Suddenly a long mechanical am
came out of a small port on the
rocket. It offered a substantial
gold ingot to the farmer, who
accepted it with some
enthusiasm.
I don't know if any part
of the dream revealed who or
what was in the spaceship. Maybe
I woke up to have a pee. I don't
think I woke up as frequently as
many night, and I don't think I
peed as much either. That was
good and bad - if that actually
was the case. Less peeing could
mean I was heavier in the
morning, but it might also mean
my blood glucose was lower,
although the correlation between
the amount of peeing and blood
glucose rarely seems to work.
I woke up at 5am this
morning, and itw as like I
should have got up. It was light
outside, but it still felt too
early. It seemed to take ages
before I got back to sleep, and
even then I only slept to 6am
when I did get up. I went for a
pee, and this morning I did do a
poo at the same time. I did
another pee and poo maybe 15
minutes later after counting out
my pills. I think if I had
waited another hour I could have
done more of both, but by then I
was eating my breakfast. Prior
to breakfast I was 400gm heavier
than yesterday - not good, but
not bad either.
This morning my lack of
peeing in the night (and first
thing in the morning) probably
did correspond to a lower blood
glucose amount. The Contour
meter read a good 7.8mmol/l. The
GlucoRX meter read a better
7.4mmol/l. The Sinocare meter
read higher as it often does,
but even if 8.3mmol/l was
actually my real blood glucose
level, it would still be
slightly good.
I am still under the
illusion that we may start to
see nice sunny spells by midday.
It is probably a foolish belief
after seeing what happened
yesterday, but I have a plan if
it does look promising. On the
other hand, I've just looked at
the sky to the north, and to the
south, it looks to me like it
might rain ! However..... if it
does seem brighter as midday
approaches I may well go out for
some tram spotting. Like I
described some day last week (I
think) my plan would be to go to
Wandle park Tram Stop where
there should be trams going to
all destinations. There is also
a small park with a river and
pond in it to explore - Wandle
Park that gave it's name to the
Tram stop.
One thing I ought to
definitely do today is to phone
the group practice and see if I
can make an appointment for my
annual diabetic check up before
the nurse phones me up to shout
at me - although that may be an
easier way to make an
appointment. I think the
receptionist will try and insist
I use "the app" to make the
appointment, but I don't do that
sort of thing !
