Yesterday
was another day where it was almost
sunny all day long. The temperature
rose to 28° C, but it didn't feel as
sticky as recent days.
Even the latest revision to the
forecast for today's weather says it
should be full sunshine as I type
this. When I look out the window I see
a milky grey sky, and not a hint of
sunshine. Oddly enough, the
temperature forecast is about right.
It has just reached 20° C. At 6am it
was just 16° C and feeling very fresh.
Maybe we will get the full sunshine
forecast soon, or maybe it will only
be an early start to the sunny spells
forecast for the afternoon. The
temperature should rise to 28° C - the
same as yesterday. Tomorrow may see
more sunny spells than full sunshine,
and the temperature may only rise as
high as 26° C. There is a small, 10 to
14% chance of rain tomorrow afternoon.
Yesterday was a good day,
although not specially productive. The
really good thing about was that I
seemed to have recovered from my
health difficulties the day before. I
felt slightly wary, but I probably
felt very close to normal, if not
actually normal for much of the day.
I think in response to the
previous day's troubles, I had a
mostly relaxed day yesterday. I don't
think I wrote as fast as I usually do,
although I will admit I probably made
just as many typos as any other days !
Once I had finished typing, and having
a short rest, I had washed and
conditioned my hair, and had a shower.
Although I had rinsed my hair, and had
a shower (with soap) the day before
(just in case I ended up visiting
A&E, and went on to a couple or
more days in hospital), it did feel
good to have a more thorough clean -
particularly after a stick night.
The first big test of my
health, and in fact it was probably
the only test, was to go out shopping.
I got myself dressed in shorts and
t-shirt, plus my newest Adidas
trainers (once again without socks),
and took a walk to Savers. there were
quite a few things I wanted from there
- enough to make the walk worthwhile,
and enough to make trying to extend my
range a bit pointless.
With hindsight I probably
should have taken my rucksack. I had a
bit of a weight to carry home, and it
would have seemed far easier if it was
all in my rucksack. Most of it was
liquid, including two one litre
bottles of bleach, bottles of shampoo
and conditioner, a bit (but not the
biggest) bottle of Listerine, and also
some bottles of shower gel. It all
added up to a fair weight, although
compared to 4 two litre bottles of
Diet Coke I suppose it was fairly
light.
The walk to Savers seemed fine.
I was getting a little sticky in the
heat and probably humidity, and I was
just reaching my limit for non stop
walking at a fair pace. Carrying my
one, moderately heavy, shopping bag
slowed me a bit on the way home, but
not enough to make me want to pause
for a rest (although I did have a
short rest as I stood at the kerb
waiting for it to be safe to cross the
road).
As I approached home I was
feeling like I had just about reached
my limit, but I still have a bit of
stamina left - just enough to go
upstairs when I got home. All I bought
would be stored either in the
bathroom, or in me bedroom. It was
good to get out of my outdoor
clothing, and into just a pair of
shorts - which felt a lot cooler. When
I had put everything away I thought
about some sort of lunch.
I was quite keen about the idea
of lunch, but I was less clear as to
what to have. I wanted something
relatively "safe", and thought that
maybe I would have rice crackers with
slices of cheese (but not with pickle
this time - with hindsight I realise
the pickle I had the day before was
probably instrumental in raising my
blood glucose yesterday). What I
actually had should have raised it
even more, but by some unknown voodoo
ice cream seems to sometime help and
not hinder. It was great to finish off
the tub of choc chip mint ice cream I
had managed to make last nearly a
week.
After my lunch I had a lie down
to read, and to almost have a snooze.
I don't think I actually fell asleep,
but I did lie there with my eyes
closed for a while. What I was
supposed to be doing after a short
rest was to continue to wash some
laundry. It was all pairs of
underpants, and there may have been
more than a dozen pairs ! Wringing out
one pair of underpants is not a lot
quicker, or easier than wringing out a
t-shirt. I was not looking forward to
the job, and so I left it for another
couple of hours.
I don't think I can boast of
doing anything productive during the
whole afternoon, and I guess the even
was no real difference, although I did
watch some video recordings - although
that is not productive either. I think
it was slightly before dinner time,
say, around 6pm, when I went back to
my laundry. By then it was about as
hot as the day would be, and plunging
my rubber gloved hands into hot water
was not a great sport ! I wrung out
the detergent from the underpants, and
got them all into the first rinse
water before I gave up.
I did have some fanciful idea I
would get back to the laundry later in
the evening when it was cooler, but of
course that never happened. before
even considering that I had a fairly
light dinner. It was some semi/lightly
spiced ready cooked lumps of chicken
with coleslaw. The chicken was OK, but
nothing to get excited about. The meal
was not that filling, and later I had
a chunk of cheese, and I am sure I had
something else, but I can't remember
what.
There was some TV entertainment
last night. Sky Arts were showing a
repeat of the semi wonderful concert
"Mick Fleetwood And Friends - a
celebration of the life of Peter
Green". Having seen it once already I
knew it to be very wonderful in
places, and sometimes a bit tedious.
After a while I thought something
lighter would be better, and started
to watch more of my old recordings of
Red Dwarf.
At 9pm it was still light
outside, but it felt like time for
bed. I read on my bed for little more
than 10 minutes, and soon after that I
was fast asleep. I had a very normal
sleep. Of course I woke every 2 or 3
hours to have a pee, but that is
normal for me now. It was only towards
the morning that I had a few bigger
pees. Before that they were often
small. I can only remember the theme
of one dream. It was about a train
that was very unusual in so much as it
was an Underground train (although not
deep tube) that was hauled by an
electric loco instead of having
electric motors on each carriage. Most
of the line it ran on seemed to be
single track. Any other details seem
to have evaporated like most dreams
do.
It was feeling noticeably cool
when I got up this morning - which
felt nice. So far this morning I have
not passed a poo, but I did have a big
enough pee to make my weight a whole
400gm lighter. I am back in the light
green on my spreadsheet colour code,
and I am hopefully on my way to drop
more weight, and end up in the dark
greens again after an annoying blip in
my weight. After dark green comes dark
blue, and I managed a couple of those
before disaster struck.
The very good thing this
morning is that my weight going down
didn't mean my blood glucose going up.
This morning the Contour meter read
6.5mmol/l, and that is excellent. It
is a shame the other two meters
weren't so good. The GlucoRX meter
read 7.0mmol/l, and that is very close
to very, very good. The Contour Plus
meter still had a good reading, but it
let the side down with a reading of
7.3mmol/l. Of course that would have
been considered extremely good until I
started to get the occasional reading
in the sixes.
The Met Office forecast is less
optimistic than the BBC forecast this
morning. The BBC says we should be
getting full sunshine, while the Met
Office says just sunny spells. The
reality is that the whole dome of the
sky is still a slightly dirty white,
and there is no hint of even a single
ray of sunshine. I guess it is
probable the sun will eventually break
through - if it doesn't rain ! This is
only for academic interest, and may
have no bearing on the rest of the
day.
The most important thing once I
have had a rest is to get back to the
laundry, and get it out of the bath,
and hanging up to dry. I can then take
a shower. I had contemplated going to
Tesco today, but I don't think I
really need to. I will probably just
be lazy until mid afternoon when Jodie
should be over for a beer tasting
session. My intention is to have one
very strong beer, but mostly drink
some of the weak beers from my latest
orders, and maybe even have a soft
drink or two.
