Yesterday's weather was similar to
the forecast, except... There
were no sunny spells that I remember
in the morning. The forecast light
rain only lasted less than one hour
instead of 2 hours, and it was
probably a couple of hours earlier
than forecast. There were sunny
spells late in the afternoon. The
temperature prediction of 23° C was
about right, but it felt very
humid, (even if the forecast said it
would not be high) and that
sometimes made it feel warmer.
As I write this there is a semi
thin layer of cloud with a few very
small bits of blue visible in it. We
may be lucky enough to catch a brief
glimpse of the sun, but generally it
will be a grey day. There is a small
chance of rain from late afternoon,
but with the highest chance shown as
just 18% it is likely to stay dry. It
will also be fairly cool with just 21°
C expected. Tomorrow
may start
off with sunshine, and then sunny
spells for the rest of the day. The
maximum temperature may be just 23° C.
From midday the humidity is shown as
fairly low, and together with the
breeze it might feel more comfortable
even if a little cool.
I had a very tiring day
yesterday, but it was still a mostly
pleasant day. I managed 6 hours at
Chatt Fest, and then I had to give up
and go home again. It was a relief to
get home and have some dinner after
only eating just 2 ginger biscuits
since my early breakfast.
After breakfast of two portions
of instant noodles, I started writing
quite early yesterday. I didn't have a
huge amount to say, and I had plenty
of time for a short lie down once I
had finished writing. I think I
allowed myself half an hour, although
thatw as approximate instead of timed.
I then shaved, washed my hair, and had
a shower. After that I was more or
less ready to go out, but it was at
least an hour before I needed to go
out.
I spent a little time checking
my camera, lenses and other stuff, as
well as putting my late
afternoon/early evening pills
(prescribed and some vitamins and
stuff) in my camera bag. I also took a
spare t-shirt in case it rained and my
t-shirt got soaked. In this instance
my "camera bag" was actually a special
rucksack/back pack for photographic
equipment. It made it much easier to
carry, and I knew there was a fairly
safe space to stash it once I got to
Chatt Fest.
I thought I had left home in
time for the next 320 bus, and I
almost
did. As I reached the bus stand, about
50 to 100ft away from the actual bus
stop, the next 320 left. If I had been
able to do a fast jog I could have
caught it. I walked as fast as I
could, and got with maybe 20ft of it
before it closed it's door and drove
off. Fortunately the 320 runs a very
frequent service on a Saturday, and I
only had to wait 10 or so minutes for
the next service.
The reason for the frequent
service is because of some many people
wanting to go shopping in Bromley
(unlike Catford they still have loads
of High Street shops as well as two
shopping malls). My personal view is
that it seems like hell on Earth, and
it definitely is on the bus - loads of
passengers, and frequent stops at
every single bus stops. I had allowed
a full hours to get to Chattfest, and
I needed every minute of it. I arrived
there at about 1:10pm - which was
earlier than I expected after a long
tedious bus ride.
At this point I should have
some pictures. I took pictures of
every band until I left almost exactly
6 hours after getting there. That last
band was The Coyles, and while I am
sure I have enjoyed some of their set
in one or more past years, I found
their "traditional Irish songs" to be
quite tedious. Maybe their next song
might have been something I might have
liked, but I headed for the bus stop.
I was very lucky. I could see a
bus at the bus stop, and there was no
way I could run to it, but I didn't
need to. When I got to it the driver
was outside (possibly having a
cigarette or a Vape). I asked him if
he had broken down, or if he was just
"regulating the service". He said he
had been told to wait 5 minutes
because he was running early. I got on
the bus, and less than a minute later
we were on our way.
I think all the buses on route
320 are new Chinese, made by BYD,
electric buses. Yesterday was the
first time I had been on one, and hey
seemed quite good. My only complaint
is that the handrails on the stairs
seem to be not well placed for me. The
other problem may be because they are
so quiet running, I couldn't judge
from the engine noise whether we were
braking or accelerating. It made
getting down the stairs really hard
work.
It was quite a relief to get
back to Catford, and even more relief
to get home. I felt so drained that it
seemed like I only just had enough
energy to walk up the stair. Before I
went upstairs I got part one of my
dinner out of the fridge. Once
upstairs I stripped down to my
underpants and went for a pee. I then
weighed myself. I was surprised to see
I had apparently last a full kilogram
during the day - and that was after
drinking 2 pints of Guinness and one
pint of Fosters during the day.
Part one of my dinner was a
triple pack of sweet chilli chicken
wraps. When I bought it in Aldi I had
a fantasy that would be all I would
eat, but back in real life I wanted
more. My part two was half a big bag
of chilli flavour crisps (mildly warm)
to scoop up as much "Rainbow coleslaw"
as possible. Rainbow coleslaw, only
available in Aldi, is, as the name
implies, coleslaw that incorporates
red cabbage as well as carrot and
white cabbage. The significant thing
is that it uses a yoghurt based
dressing, and contains far less sugar
than most coleslaws.
I did have a dinner part three,
and it was a chunk of Aldi's own brand
Angel Cake. I haven't actually
checked, but it does not taste very
sweet, and it might have a low sugar
content. Parts 1, 2, and 3 seemed like
I had had quite enough dinner, and
being that it was quite late in the
evening, I expected it to have a big
effect on my blood glucose this
morning. One other thing I did last
night was to charge the battery in my
camera, and copy the pictures from the
camera to my PC.
The picture copying took a
little longer than usual because I was
copying each band into it's own named
folder. There shouldn't be any mix up
now - hopefully. I did have a glance
through some pictures, and I was not
terribly impressed. Some can be
improved in my photo editor, but most
may still lack and sparkle because the
light was quite dull under the stage
roof. There were some basic lights for
when it got dark, but it was all
relying on daylight getting into the
semi enclosed stage area. That was not
ideal on a mostly overcast day. I had
one fellow photographer there, and she
agreed that it all made for very dull
looking pictures. I kept threatening
to use flash, but I never did. I may
do so today.
If I didn't have to do it all
again today, I might have stayed up a
bit and made a start on selecting and
editing some pictures, but I felt
really weary. I went to the toilet,
and then brushed my teeth. I was just
about to go to bed when I realised I
had not recorded my evening blood
pressure. I had to read a (technology)
news story or two to relax, and then I
checked my blood pressure. It was
100/46 - a lot lower than expected,
and maybe just a little too low (but I
have survived much lower).
I think it was 10:30pm when I
finally went to bed. I picked up my
book, and then put it down without
even opening it. I turned out the
light, and then fell asleep almost
instantly. That is how it should be,
but only after doing a decent amount
of work during the day - something I
have not done for years now. I can
barely remember getting up 3 or 4
times in the night for a pee, but I do
know I was often peeing quite a lot.
That is not surprising after the sugar
in some of my dinner.
After sleeping so solidly, I
woke up around 5am, and it felt like
it was almost time to get up, but it
also felt a bit cool. I turned the
heater on low, and then seemed to
thrash around trying to get to sleep.
It didn't feel like I would get much,
if any sleep, but I must have done
because the next thing I was aware of
was that it was about 6:30am, and
definitely time to get up.
I went for yet another pee, and
I was surprised that I also had a poo.
It will be nice if it was enough for
the day, but all the fibre in the
coleslaw may think otherwise. Then,
while I was naked, I weighed myself. I
was delighted to see that despite the
beer and the three part dinner, I was
exactly one kilogram lighter than
yesterday morning. Essentially I am
now 5 kg lighter than on ist April,
and my record show I have not been
this light since 2020 when because of
Covid lockdown, I was out most days
doing very long walks ! (Although I
have to add that my records are very
patchy until I started a proper
spreadsheet just over 12 months ago).
Well my weight was very good,
and a lot of it was due to peeing out
retained water. All that peeing
suggested high blood glucose, but
although not as low as I aim for
again, it was not that high at all.
The Contour meter read 7.9mmol/l, and
that is pretty good. The GlucoRX meter
read 8.3mmol/l, and although not so
good, is still quite good enough. The
Contour Plus meter read 8.7mmol/l.
That is also good enough, but once
again, even with fresh batteries, that
meter is reading higher than the other
two, and they do not agree with each
other that closely. I can only
conclude that there is something about
my blood chemistry that affects the
different makes of test strips
differently. The good thing is that
none of them gives any cause for
concern.
Today could be almost a repeat
of yesterday. Being a Sunday there may
be less frequent buses, but hopefully
the journey will be a bit quicker on a
(possibly) quieter Sunday. It has been
suggested that I should try and see
the first band on at 1pm. They are
Ryans Rednecks, but I am not sure I
will like the sort of music it sounds
like they will play. On the other hand
it maybe less cowboy music, and
something more like Lynyrd Skynyrd
music. I am not going to rush, and I
will be happy even if I only see the
last 15 minutes of their set. The last
band is on at 7pm. They are The
Ferrets (previously Ferdinand's
Northern Ferrets) and quite good. I
may stay later than yesterday, but I
will still be really looking forward
to getting home again !
