Yesterday
featured a few showers, although all
were light enough to almost ignore
(although my camera got quite a
splattering). I think there were a
couple of brief sunny spells in the
morning, and a few much later in the
afternoon. Out in the fresh air the
humidity seemed to be fairly low,
and generally it felt like a mostly
OK sort of day (although lots of
sunshine would obviously improve
it). The afternoon was forecast to
reach 21° C, but I suspect it was
probably higher.
It is certainly sunny as I
write this, and with a lot of blue sky
visible, sunshine or sunny spells
could continue for a long time. The
forecast says they will last all day.
The temperature may peak at 24° C for
maybe a full hour. Tomorrow may see
the return of mostly light rain or
drizzle in the afternoon, although the
morning may start bright. It may be a
struggle for the temperature to reach
a peak of just 20° C. In the rain,
under a dull sky, it could feel rather
cool.
Yesterday was not as tiring as
the day before, although it was still
a bit tiring, and once again I left a
bit early. Once again leaving a bit
early was probably the right thing to
do. One difference was that Chatt Fest
finishes at 8pm on the Sunday, and I
was there for long enough to watch
some of every band.
I was less relaxed about
getting ready to go out yesterday. I
started writing a bit later, and I
wrote a lot more (2,023 words), and
finished later. My camera kit was
already packed after the night before,
and it was not long after I had a
shave and shower that I had to go and
get the 320 bus all the way to the
other side of Bromley. In some ways it
was slightly more pleasant because the
bus was not full of Saturday shoppers,
but it still stopped at every stop,
and it still took almost a full hour
to get there.
At this point I have to
describe some of the day before. I did
not have the energy to get any
pictures ready from the day before
yesterday, but I do have a few now. I
now turn the clock back to describe
Saturday before I start to describe
yesterday.
I think it was about 1:10pm
when I arrived at the pub (The
Chatterton Arms), bought a pint of
Guinness, and then went to see who
John Leigh was. He was on first. I can
say it here where no one ever reads
anything I say, but I found his set to
be quite tedious. He was just one man
and his electro-acoustic guitar, and
there are only a very few ways of
taking pictures of one man sitting on
a chair to play guitar ! His choice of
tunes included a few good tunes, but
sadly they are spoiled by his very
flat voice.
I have a few more pictures of
John Leigh, but I'll post those
elsewhere. Moving on to 2pm, and
a much better, much bigger band came
on. I say much better, but their style
was not the basic lead guitar, bass
guitar, drums and singer (all turned
up to 11) that I prefer (but I do
appreciate some ballads as well). The
bands name was Too Many Cooks.
Like one other photo of a band
that I have ready to show today, this
is a full band line up, and not the
band playing. I have plenty of
pictures to consider of them playing,
and may show few tomorrow. If you look
at the right hand side of this photo
you cans ee the huge difference of
brightness outside compared to the
stage area. That dull light many
pictures I (and others) took can look
a bit dull. Yesterday I resorted to
using flash for the last bands on.
When it came to the third band,
their drummer (Angela's husband)
managed to escape, and could not be
recalled. He was only sitting in as a
temporary drummer. Their regular
drummer left the band for some reason
I have forgotten, and they have used
anyone available for their recent
gigs. I do have several pictures of
Angela's husband actually playing the
drums (as a special favour for her -
well I had to !).
In a late night sleepy effort
at making this picture look better, it
seems, in the cold light of day, that
I have just made it look very
messy.... It shows Angela running
towards me just a minute after she had
arrived. We were both very happy to
see each other after an absence of
something like 2 years. I did my best
to stop my camera coming between us
when she gave me a big hug and cuddle,
and I was most happy to reciprocate.
I let her take the lead because
I didn't want to get her in trouble
with the husband standing right behind
her. I have to say she was looking
good, although the stress of her
cancer treatment left it's mark on
her. She seemed quite lively at the
beginning, but I understand that she
was feeling the strain of her first
day out in ages (just like I was), and
I think she left a few hours later -
probably soon after her husband came
off stage after drumming for Retro
Rock Icons.
I watched, and photographed 4
more bands, although I only took 14 or
so pictures of the last band I saw -
The Coyles. I had seen them before,
and I think the later songs on their
set list might have been better, but
the first few songs I saw played were
very heavy Irish folk music, and I
took zero pleasure in it.
I have already described my
journey home, after I got home, and
how yesterday started, and so I'll
pick up from when I got the 320 bus to
the far side of Bromley. As mentioned
near the top of the page, it still
took about an hour to get to the pub,
but I think I arrived at about the
same time as Jo who was at the bar
when I entered. She used one of her
band drinking vouchers to buy me a
pint of Guinness.
With Guinness in hand I went to
see what the first band on, Ryans
Rednecks, were all about. I feared it
would all be cowboy/western (the less
terrible half of Country and Western)
music, but they did do a few good
classic songs. One or two were
Creedance Clearwater Revival songs
such as "Have You Ever Seen The Rain"
- that being very appropriate because
it was while we got a light
splattering of rain.
Most of the bands on yesterday
were pretty good, as well as, in one
case, rather weird, but you'll have to
wait a few days before seeing pictures
of them ! Yesterday was probably the
more social day of the two day event.
There seemed to be loads of people who
I knew, and some I didn't think I did,
but they knew me ! One such person was
a delightful young lady who told me I
had taken a great picture of her a
year or two ago, and she had been
using as her social media profile
picture until changing it recently.
She then did a few poses for me.
I think this was the better of
the two poses. It looks more contrasty
than the rather flat picture I last
took of her. having said that, it did
need a bit of tweaking because even
outside it was very dull under a
thickly overcast sky. I now wish I had
asked John "Panhead" to move out of
the picture because he spoils it.
The last band on yesterday was
The Ferrets, and although I wanted to
go, I definitely wanted to hear at
least a few of their punk covers, and
get some snaps of them playing them.
It was as late as halfway through
their set that I drifted away
(possibly as late as 7.30pm). By then
my feet were aching, although I didn't
feel as exhausted as the day before. I
ask the security man if I could slip
out the side gate rather than squeeze
through the very busy pub bar area
with my camera back pack on. He said
yes, and I let myself out. On the
other side of the get there was
another security man, and he said I
couldn't use the gate ! Fortunately
the man who said yes partly followed
me out, and told the second one that
he had OK it. the second man was not
happy, but was partly pacified when he
saw I did have a wrist band on.
Anyway, I was outside, and I
was not going back in. I made my way
to the bus stop, and just kissed the
next 320 bus. If I had not been
delayed at the gate I may have
possibly just managed to catch it.
Fortunately there was a 208 bus 4
minutes later, and that takes me to
the end of my road. It is another of
those weird things of living in a sort
of triangle of land. I have to choose
which bus stop to leave from, but I
can get home from either side of the
triangle.
The 208 was a diesel bus, but
the ride seemed very similar to the
all electric 320 bus. The significant
difference was the staircase. Coming
down from the top deck was definitely
easier, and maybe safer on the 208 -
mainly because the handrails seems to
match my arms better. I think it was
not a lot more than 30 minutes on the
bus coming home, and it was nice to be
sitting down for that time. I don't
think I sat down at all while at Chatt
Fest yesterday.
The walk from the bus stop to
home was hard work, but not as bad as
the previous night, and I didn't seem
to be so tired that I had any great
difficulty walking up the stairs -
probably any difficulty was only in my
head. The first thing I did when I got
home was to grab part one of my dinner
from the fridge to take upstairs to my
PC. It would be some time before I
could start eating it. First of all I
stripped down to my underpants, and
went for a pee. I then weighed myself.
I was very slightly disappointed not
to see a large drop in my weight this
time.
I have to confess that I spent
the evening just in my underpants - it
is one of the luxuries of living
alone. Before eating I put my camera
battery on charge, and I removed the
memory card ready to copy the day's
pictures to my PC. I could almost have
started the selecting and editing
while eating, but it could get messy,
and besides which It was the pictures
from Saturday that I would be
selecting and editing first.
I just read some technology new
while eating my triple pack of chicken
and stuff wraps. I then did something
similar to the night before. I used
some crisps to scoop up large amounts
of three cheese coleslaw. The later
was not so low in sugar as the yoghurt
based coleslaw I had the previous
night. I finished my dinner with
another chunk of Aldi own brand Angel
Cake.
At that point it was almost
late enough, and I was almost ready
enough, to go to bed, and fall asleep
almost instantly again. Instead of
bed, curiosity got the better of me.
It started with wanting to see how the
pictures of Cat Mc came out, and then
deciding to edit them for use. I then
found the other pictures shown here
today, and did the editing of those.
That seemed enough, and I did got to
bed then. It was gone 11pm by then,
and once again, I fell asleep very
quickly once I turned the light out.
I got up several times in the
night to go for a pee, but at 5am it
was almost like I could have got up.
My room was feeling a bit cool by
then, and so I put the heater on low,
and stayed on my bed until it was
warmer. Once again, I didn't expect to
fall asleep again, but I did, and
probably got at least 40 minutes of
extra sleep. The way I feel at the
moment it would have been good to get
an extra couple of hours of sleep.
I think it was around 6.30am
when I got up. I went for one more
pee, but didn't manage a poo before
getting on the scales, The scales
showed some hesitation, probably
because I was between two readings,
and maybe if I had the poo I had a bit
later, it might just have been enough
for the scales to decide on the lower
number - which would have been exactly
the same as yesterday. As it was, I
seem to have gained 100gm instead of
losing a lot more. It was quite
disappointing that I had not lost a
lot like I had yesterday morning.
While most aspects of my diet,
and exercise were pretty much the same
as the day before, I knew that I could
expect my blood glucose to be a bit
higher. One cause would have been the
higher sugar content of the coleslaw I
ate. I used my three blood glucose
meters in a different order this
morning to see if that made any
difference. It sort of didn't, and
maybe it did. The Contour meter read
9.3mmol/l, and that is pretty high.
The GlucoRX meter read 8.2mmol/l, and
that was the only meter that read OK.
This time the Contour Plus meter
agreed with the Contour meter with a
bad reading of 9.3mmol/l.
I am not going to worry about
those high readings this time because
I am sure it was just because I was
eating high sugar stuff so late in the
evening. I will see if I can control
myself enough for better readings
tomorrow morning. That could be hard
because I will be spending much of the
day, or at least as much as I can
stomach, selecting and editing photos.
Unfortunately it is a task that makes
it far too easy to want snacks.
There is one other thing I need
to do today, and I will be trying to
do it soon, as soon as I have finished
writing this, and uploading it to me
web server. I need to phone the
surgery, and try and book an
appointment to see my doctor to
discuss my echocardiogram results.
They would like it if I did it via
"the app", but I insist on doing it
the old fashioned way. I hope they
don't find an appointment too soon. I
am busy today, but not essentially so.
Tomorow I should be getting a small
packet delivery, It could be small
enough to go through my very small
letterbox, but I'd rather not take a
chance on it. On Wednesday I will be
in the Jolly Farmers at lunchtime, and
on Thursday it will be beer tasting
with Jodie and Micheal.
