Yesterday
was one of those days that had some
bad bits, and some good bits, but
was mostly dull - both in the sense
that it was not that bright, but
also in the sense that it was
unexciting and ignorable. The
morning tried to start bright, but
it was several hours later when we
did get some nice sunny spells for a
while. After midday it was a bit
dull, and around 4pm we did have a
light shower. The temperature
managed to just about hit 22° C as
the afternoon ended.
Yesterday the forecast for
today was for a very wet day, but this
morning it seems less severe.
Admittedly the whole afternoon could
feature light showers, but only two
hours, 5 and 6pm, show more than a 50%
chance of rain. The temperature could
be another day when only 21° C is
forecast (although yesterday did reach
22° C). Tomorrow could start
semi-chilly at just 14° C, but it may
be sunny, and it may be the first of a
series of days featuring more and more
sunshine, and rising temperatures,
although tomorrow may still only peak
at 21° C.
Yesterday was not a good day
for me. I did not feel well, and by
lunchtime I was wondering if I had
'flu or something. All sorts of bits
of me, mostly joints and muscles were
aching. I'm tempted to say this
improved during the day, but on
reflection, I am not sure it did.
One trouble yesterday was that
it felt like I should be in a mad
rush. I wasn't really, but it did mean
I got up earlier than I later seemed
to think was a good idea. As well as
aching muscles and joints, I seemed to
feel something among the choices of
weary, tired, fatigued or knackered !
It made writing yesterday's piece a
bit of a drag, and I couldn't even pad
it out with any pictures.
Once I finished writing the
temporary relief felt good enough to
finish editing one of the small photo
sets from Chatt Fest a week ago
yesterday. The band were the
assorted, and I think their entire
photo album only had 6 pictures in it.
I can't remember exactly, but I think
it was when I was having a lot of
trouble with poor light, and resorted
to using flash. Some pictures came out
OK, but many were terrible. There was
a string of them that were desperately
out of focus.
This was one of the best
pictures I took of the band (or the
two front members of it). It is a
shame that it is only technically OK,
but as a photo it lacks any pzazz, or
something. I think the awful stage and
poor lighting sapped any slight
creative skill I might have.
I did manage to get a pretty
fair group picture of the band
standing in a quiet corner of the
Chatterton Arms back garden. Even here
I had to "force" the picture to make
it look a bit shiny under a grey sky.
(Note that there are no shadows in
this pictures because of the bland
grey light from the sky).
Having done with The Assorted
band I did make a small start of the
next band who were on - The Four
Horsemen. I don't remember them as
being a very exciting band....in fact
I don't remember anything about them.
What I do remember was that I think I
got fed up with the poor light, and
started using flash. I have not fully
checked yet, but I think it improved
the pictures a bit.
I had to give up photo editing
for the time because I needed to have
a shower, and get prepared for an
afternoon beer tasting session with
Jodie. I had a fair bit of washing up
to do, and I had to empty both the
ordinary rubbish bin, and the
recycling bin to make room for more
empty bottles and cans. The ordinary
bin was getting a bit whiffy and so
emptying that was definitely needed.
Jodie arrived a bit later than
expected, and I had started boozing at
least 15 minutes before she got here.
I was still suffering from aches and
stiffness, and stuff, and so I had
opened a can of 7.5% Carlsberg Special
Brew. I'll admit it was a sort of
desperate measure to take, but on the
other hand, when chilled it is fairly
pleasant. I am dubious about it's
sugar content, and will soon be
assigning some blame to it.
Jodie was in one of her very
uncommunicative moods. She preferred
to spend 3/4 of her time glued to her
phone - checking Untappd, the beer
recording website to see who was
drinking where and what. If she wasn't
scanning through that she was
scrolling through Instagram looking
for cat and squirrel pictures. On top
of that, she was not drinking much. I
think I had two more cans to drink by
myself. It was one occasion when I not
only not minded getting drunk, but
intended to do so.
Jodie left to get the 6:30pm
train to London (on this occasion),
and I was looking forward to tucking
into my dinner. It was supposed to be
just a single Tesco Chicken Jalfrezi
curry. It was nice, but probably
because of the booze, it felt like no
more than a snack, and I wanted more.
The quickest and easiest thing was to
make up a portion of instant noodles.
To my mind (at the time) it didn't
seem like much, but it was enough to
fill an empty space in my stomach.
It was not long after eating
that I brushed my teeth, and almost,
but not quite, went to bed. I had
intended to read for a while, but I
didn't even open the book. I laid down
with my eyes closed, and I fell
asleep. I woke up an hour later, just
before 9pm, and I seemed to feel OK. I
watched Have I Got News For You, and
then, instead of going to bed, I
started on my photos again. I hadn't
taken many photos of the next band,
The Four Horsemen. (possibly spelled
Hoarsemen).
They were another band whose
music didn't leave any impression on
me, but my flashgun made an impression
on my photos. I wish I had started
using my flash gun much earlier in the
day when it was equally dull outside.
Using flash I got a fair
picture of the whole band on stage. I
thought I also took an off stage line
up of the band as well. Maybe that
picture is in the middle of the
pictures I took of the last band that
I saw, The Ferrets.....Hmmm, on second
thoughts, the picture above is not
very good at all.
With that last set of 13
pictures done I hurried back to bed,
and it was not long until I was fast
asleep. I don't think I slept all that
well last night because as well as
some heartburn, I was still bothered
by aching joints and muscles. The
heartburn was the worst thing because
it is so similar to the start of
angina - and that could be possible
if, as I still wonder, I had done some
more damage to my heart after another
busy weekend.
I didn't seem to pee all that
much during the night, and that was a
shame because when I weighed myself I
found I had out a huge amount on in
the last 24 hours. By huge I mean a
fantastical 2.1kg. I know that
yesterday I had lost 1.3kg, and that
amount was a bit of fluke, but even
so.... I am not sure what to blame for
it. I don't recall eating that
excessively during the day.
The lack of peeing suggested
that maybe my blood glucose should
have been very good this morning, but
it was actually a complete disaster.
The Contour meter read 9.1mmol/l - a
quite bad reading. The GlucoRX meter
read 9.5mmol/l - a truly terrible
reading. The Contour Plus meter was
over the red line with a reading of
10.2mmol/l - well into the danger
zone. One difference to previous good
readings is that I had no ice cream,
or cakes yesterday - either should
raise my blood glucose because the
amount of sugar in them, but somehow
seem to do the opposite.
In some respects I do feel
better (but maybe not good) this
morning. I definitely ache less - with
one exception, my right shoulder was
generating a bit of pain earlier, but
upon testing it before writing this,
its seemed to feel OK. In other
respects I still feel bad, or maybe
annoyed a bit this morning. While
trying to write this I had a mega long
phone call from Sue, and I have had a
long-ish call from Lee. I have also
had a couple of text messages from
Angela, but I can easily forgive her.
It is now 1:15pm, and I should
have finished writing over 2 hours
ago. As yet I haven't had a shower,
and now I am feeling that I can't be
bothered to have one. So unbothered
that I have got my big buckets out,
and have put two t-shirts and some
underpants in to soak. I maybe get
back to them after I have had a
hopefully very safe lunch. After that,
or maybe in the middle of it, I must
start to do the photos of The Ferrets
Punk Rock Band that I shot at Chatt
Fest on Sunday before yesterday. Once
they have been done I can start on the
pictures I took at Petts Wood Calling
last Saturday (2nd August).
