My
Electronic Diary For July 2025 |
Wednesday 9th July 2025 |
08:39 BST
Yesterday was one of
those currently frequent days where the essence of the
weather forecast was right, but the fine details
wrong. I must admit it is hard to remember exactly
every hour of the day, but I think some hours of
sunshine, were actually sunny spells, and some hours
of sunny spells were actually full sunshine. It was
fairly warm though, and the afternoon temperature
easily rose to 23° C, and possibly higher.
This morning has started sunny, but it also
started off quite cool. However, the temperature has
already risen to 19° C. Much of today will feature sunny
spells, although just a couple of hours (according to
the latest revision) at the start of the afternoon may
be light grey. It may take until 6pm, but the
temperature today should reach 26° C. It should be a
milder night tonight, and then a day of non stop
sunshine should get tomorrow up to 29° C - the start of
another heatwave.![]() Before describing most of yesterday I feel I want to finish a small part of the story of yesterday. I wrote how I had tried to remove a spider from my bathroom, and got bitten by it in the process. After the spider escaped I did not see it again until about 8pm last night. It had resumed it's preference of lurking where the wall and ceiling meet. I'm afraid that after being bitten in the morning I was not going to mess around. Using what was once used as a curtain rod, I squished the little blighter from about 5ft away from those venom dripping fangs (probably). ![]() Apart from that spider trouble mentioned above, yesterday was a mostly quiet day. I thought I wanted to go out, but I never did. I did do a few useful things, but mostly it was all about eating and resting. I probably ate too much, but it seems like it was all of the right stuff. The rest of yesterday, with notes about my night, and also this morning, is all described in my complete archived page for today. |

Yesterday started off dull
and wet - as forecast - but it seemed to finish
raining a bit earlier, and there was some sunny spells
before 11am when they wee forecast to start. There
were supposed to be no sunny spells between 1pm and
5pm, and I do recall there were some dull periods, but
I am sure I can also remember some sunny periods. From
later afternoon/early evening there was definitely
more sunshine until sunset. The temperature was
supposed to peak very briefly at 21° C, it might have
been for longer, or maybe it was a bit higher.
There was rain forecast for the night, but a lot
of the time the sky must have been clear because this
morning started of almost cold at just 13° C (that is
cold with reference to what we would expect - in winter
it would be like a heatwave). The forecast says full
sunshine until 9am, but there are a few clouds in the
sky, and one might blot out he sun for a while. From
10am only sunny spells are forecast, but even those are
supposed to warm the day up to a peak of 23° C. From 5pm
until sunset there could be full sunshine. It looks to
be another clear night and tomorrow may start cool again
at 14° C. It may also start with full sunshine, but much
of the day may actually be quite dull. Even so, the
temperature may rise to 25° C. Like today, it should be
a dry day.![]() Yesterday I met a wonderful young woman who wants to mend my broken heart. Unfortunately it is not the start of a great romance. The woman is a doctor, and it is my physical heart that (probably) needs some repair, or more accurately, probably some minor arteries to it need unblocking. All the details I can remember about yesterday, plus some notes about my sleep (a poor sleep) and this morning, can be read in my complete archived page for today. |

07:30 BST
The weather was a bit
complex yesterday. It was a bit like Eric Morecambe
saying he played
all the right notes, but not necessarily in the
right order. The day started as forecast - grey
and miserable. That was supposed to be followed by
thunderstorms from 10am. That was later revised to
midday, and the first clap of thunder was around 2 or
even 3pm. The very heavy rain associated with a
thunderstorm came about 20 minutes later as the clouds
were breaking up. All flashes and claps of thunder
seemed to be coming from at least several miles away
to to the south. The heavy rain was followed by some
lighter rain, and then the sun started to break
through. At first there were sunny spells lasting as
little as a single minute. Later on they became more
substantial. Through all that the temperature managed
to reach 21° C.
This morning started with some rain, but it is
either so light that it is hard to see, or it has
stopped. Towards the west it looks like it is
brightening up a bit. It is a shame it isn't to the east
where the sun is ! If, and it is a very big if, the
forecast contains any truth, by 10am the rain will be no
more than some drizzle, and by 11am we could be having a
few sunny spells. It will be dull again for most of the
afternoon, but from 5pm the sunny spells may return, and
the last two hours of daylight could be full sunshine.
For all that, the highest temperature may still be only
21° C, and that for one single hour at 6pm. This morning
started off a bit chilly at just 14° C, and thanks to
clear skies tonight, tomorrow may start off even colder
at just 13° C, but strong sunshine should start to warm
things up quite quickly. Apart from the first few hours
of the afternoon, when only sunny spells are forecast,
the whole day should see strong sunshine, and the
temperature should reach 23° C. That starts the slow
build up to another heatwave with temperatures of 30° C
of more in a few more days time.![]() Yesterday was one of those days when unexpected things happened. The first unexpected thing happened just after I finished writing. It was a long phone call from a friend. Much of it was semi boring - stuff about mobile phone signal strengths, with my friend quoting where all the local masts are. The full details of yesterday, or as much as worth writing, plus how I slept, and how I feel this morning, can all be read in my complete archived page for today. |

09:09 BST
Yesterday was a very dull
day, but at least it was mostly dry. There was one
brief shower sometimes around midday, and much later
than the forecast predicted. It was a very cool day
for this time of year (or at least how I choose to
believe it should be). The morning started around 17°
C, and it slowly warmed to just 21° C (according to
the forecast (I can't recall checking it on my own
thermometers). I think it was around 7 or 8pm when we
actually had proof the sun had not gone out. I recall
two sunny spells. Both were little more than 15
seconds long !
The forecast for today looks grim, but maybe the
latest revision is slightly less grim (by the skin of
it's teeth). The latest revision shows the thunderstorms
starting at midday, and the lead up to them to be just
mid grey sky. They could continue until 4pm. The Met
Office forecast is a bit different. That warns of
thunderstorms, but doesn't actually show any on the
chart. It shows "light showers" at midday, "heavy
showers" at 1 and 2pm, and then "heavy rain" at 3pm. At
4pm they say "light showers", and after that it should
be dry, but still dull. Both forecasters predict a high
of 21° C today. Tomorrow could start chilly at just 14°
C, and it will rain, but from 11am the sun should break
through to bring sunny spells for the rest of the day.
The afternoon high may only be 20° C. Tuesday may see
the return of sunnier weather, and the build up to
another heatwave towards the end of the week. ![]() Yesterday, the dismal weather, even if it was almost dry, had a dismal effect on me, and while I didn't feel depressed at any time, my actions, or lack of them, strongly suggested otherwise. I did one physical thing and one bit of experimentation on myself by way of altered diet. All the details of my day, plus how I slept and what I dreamed, plus notes about this morning, can all be read in my complete archived page for today. |

08:19 BST
It was generally bright and
sunny yesterday, although once or twice a thin cloud
drifted in front of the sun, and it dimmed a
bit. The afternoon temperature reached the
forecast 26° C, and maybe a little bit more, but the
heat didn't seem to feel oppressive.
So far this morning there has been no hint of any
rain, and yet it is most definitely cloudy. By my
reckoning the rain has 22 minutes to show or the
forecast was a hoax...well sort of. Thick cloud is
forecast from 9am to 5pm, and even though none is shown
in the forecast, I would not be surprised if we didn't
get at least a few spots of rain during that time. From
6pm the clouds may have changed from very dark to light
grey, but it seems we will not see a single ray of
sunshine today. The temperature may only rise to 21° C,
and that might almost feel cold compared to some of the
hottest days recently. Tomorrow morning may see some
thundery showers. I have no idea why, but they always
seem to be shown with the rays of the sun around them. I
doubt we will see a single ray of sunshine at any time
tomorrow. Once again the temperature may only rise to
21° C. Monday may be no warmer, but there may be some
sunny spells in the afternoon, but a lot could change by
then.![]() Yesterday was really all about my visit to see the actual diabetic nurse (the nurse who deals with diabetic patients). I think she was the one I saw a year (maybe two) ago, and thought she was a bit harsh. This time she was less annoying, and made some fair suggestions. There is more about that, and the rest of my day, plus notes about my night, and this morning, and all can be read in my complete archived page for today. |

08:32 BST
Yesterday started with
bright sunshine. The forecast said that sunshine would
give way to just sunny spells after midday, and there
was indeed an hour or so when it did seem dull, but
the sun was soon shining again, and the afternoon did
feature a lot of sunshine. the forecast high was 24°
C, but I think it may have risen closer to 27° C.
It is sunny now, but there are some patches of
thin white cloud that could dim the sunshine if they
pass in front of the sun. The forecast says this
afternoon should see 26° C. After sunset it is supposed
to start clouding over. That means it will probably feel
less fresh tomorrow morning. The cloud will continue all
day tomorrow, and no sunshine at all is forecast. It
could range from dull to very dull, and the temperature
may only rise to 20° C. The day after tomorrow, Sunday,
could see some rain and drizzle.![]() Yesterday was generally a good day, although like many days it was up and down. Less good was that somehow it had a sting in it's tail. Quite what caused it remains a mystery, but it did keep me up for a couple of hours early this morning, and I am unsure how I feel now. My day is described, along with stuff happening during the early hours of this morning, plus some notes about this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |
Thursday 3rd July 2025 |
07:37 BST
Yesterday started quite
dull, and there was some rain, but less rain than
forecast. Generally it was just a short passing shower
every one or two hours. The afternoon saw sunny
spells, and I think they started earlier than
forecast. There most definitely was not a thunderstorm
at 2pm as later versions of the forecast predicted
(although there may have been thunderstorms tens of
miles away somewhere). The maximum temperature was
only 24° C, and at the beginning and end of the day it
actually felt cold (even if it would have been
considered very warm back in February).
Today sees the return of bright sunshine this
morning, and maybe just sunny spells this afternoon.
Once again the maximum temperature may only be 24°
C. Tomorrow could start off very fresh, just 15° C, but
full sunshine all day long will warm the day up to 26° C
by the end of the afternoon. The day after tomorrow may
see more rain, and probably much cooler temperatures,
possibly as low as 21° C in the afternoon, but that
forecast could change a lot in the next 48 hours.![]() Yesterday brought mixed blessings. My day was still fairly good even though it was also bad. Not dripping everywhere was good, but not getting to the pub was bad. For some stupid reason I was looking forward to walking to the pub while dodging the rain, but I didn't even go out at all. All the gruesome reasons for how my day was like it was, are all described, along with notes about my night and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |

08:46 BST
Yesterday was the hottest
day of the year - so far ! There was loads of
sunshine, but from time to time some clouds came along
and it seemed dim for a while. The BBC claimed, on the
6 O'clock news that the temperature had peaked at
34.7° C, and one of my outside thermometer was saying
34.3° C at 3:42pm when it seemed to be the hottest. At
the same time my bedroom was up to 32.6° C. It was
almost midnight when the temperature had dropped
enough to be noticed.
I think it was still 20° C at 7am this morning,
rather than the 19° C shown in the forecast. The good
news is that it definitely feels cooler today, although
it may well still reach 24° C this afternoon. A lot of
light rain is forecast for the morning, and maybe the
start of the afternoon. So far I have seen one light
shower that didn't seem to last more than 20 minutes. It
was enough to make the garden look wet, but if that is
the pattern for this morning I might be able to walk
through the park in the dry. Update: The BBC have added
a lightning bolt for 2pm today ! They like their
forecasts of lightning, but they very rarely happen.
Tomorrow sees a return to sunshine and then sunny
spells, but the temperature may only peak at 24° C.![]() I hate to admit it, but yesterday's heat did not invigorate me, but did quite the opposite. Maybe it was the humidity, or the times when the sun was hidden behind cloud, or just my general state of health, but unlike in the hot summer of 2020, I felt no urge to go for a very long walk, or even a medium walk. My day, such as it was, plus my night, and this morning, are all described in my complete archived page for today. |
Tuesday 1st July 2025 |
08:14 BST
I think I can admit that
yesterday was hot, but worse than that was that it
seemed to be humid as well, and that made for a sticky
day. A few clouds were seen, but the sun seemed to be
shining at full strength all day long, and the
temperature reached the forecast 32° C.
It was another rather warm night, and this
morning seemed to start at 24° C on my thermometers.
Today the temperature may reach 32° C, and with 33° C
possible. The night should start very warm and sticky,
but it is all change during the night. Tomorrow at 6am
it may be raining, and and 19° C. The rain may continue,
although it will probably just be quite light rain,
until early afternoon when we should see sunny spells
for several hours, and full sunshine for the last few
hours of daylight. Tomorrow's maximum may be just 23° C.![]() Yesterday started off as sort of exciting, but later in the afternoon it just seemed too hot and sticky to raise any enthusiasm to do that much. Apart from one still unfinished job, it didn't matter that I just indulged in keeping hydrated and cool in the afternoon (as recommended by several very boring TV doctors). My day is described, with a few pictures, along with last night, and this morning, in my complete archived page for today. |
