I am
unsure why yesterday didn't feel
like a great summers day. It had all
the ingredients - blue skies and
warm, and even hot sunshine, plus a
pleasant light breeze, but I seemed
sort of unaware of it or something.
Even the late afternoon high of 26°
C didn't seem to be anything special
(although any chilli sauce did bring
me out in a good sweat).
This morning has started off
slightly fresh feeling, but very
sunny, and it is forecast to be very
sunny all day long. By 3pm the
temperature should reach 28° C.
Tomorrow will be like today except we
can expect 30° C, but that will
probably be the peak for this run of
very good weather - which should be
dry and sunny for at least the next 7
days.
It was mostly a couple of small
things that made yesterday a good day.
That might even include a 10% beer in
the afternoon - which was extremely
nice, but was instrumental of ruining
my diet, although curiously it didn't
seem to sabotage my blood glucose
level.
As far as I can remember,
yesterday started, and mostly
continued to be a mostly relaxed day.
I don't think I had any urge to race
through yesterday's writing, and make
hundreds of typos and spelling errors.
I think it was the more typical tens
of typos and spelling errors ! Once I
had finished writing I had my usual
rest, but it might possibly not have
been as long as some because I wanted
to have a shower.
While writing I sometimes had
fantasies of going out for a walk, but
that was mostly stamped on when I got
an email to say my Amazon delivery
(originally estimated to be delivered
today) was out for delivery quite
early for Amazon, mere minutes after
11am. I could have still chanced a
walk because I still thought it would
be hours before it arrived. I would
still have had plenty of time -
although it did arrive earlier than
expected at about 3pm.
After my shower I put two white
t-shirts in to soak. One of the
t-shirts was rather old, and a
historic item. I found it while
looking for, and finding, a spare net
curtain for my bedroom. The old one
was starting to fall apart of soaking
up so much bright sunshine over the
years. Putting up the new curtain was
a little easier than expected. The big
downside was that it has a (now slowly
fading) nasty plastic/chemical small.
I assume it is from being stored for
maybe 5 or more years. Anyway, the job
is done, and I don't feel ashamed when
anyone looks up at my window and saw
ripped curtains.
The other job, washing the two
white t-shirts was spread over several
hours. I did the first and second
rinse before the Amazon delivery, and
didn't get back to do the third rinse
and fabric conditioner until after
Jodie arrived for out beer tasting
session. In the meantime, the man from
Amazon arrived with my stuff at just
gone 3pm - which was earlier than I
realistically expected.
I had ordered two packs of test
strips for my GlucoRX blood glucose
meter that is no longer supported by
the NHS, but still works perfectly,
and out of all those I own, it is my
favourite meter giving very consistent
results. I now have 100 days supply of
test strips, plus whatever is left in
the current container (maybe 20 or
so). I also ordered two spare leather
trouser belts. I recently had to throw
away a belt because I noticed it was
fraying badly. I had a spare, and now
I have two spares.
There was one more item in my
order, and it was another pair of
Adidas trainers. That is four pairs I
have now. I have been impressed by two
things. One is that they are generally
more comfortable than some other
makes, and the other thing is that
they are a lot cheaper than expected -
although there are fancy designs that
are of no interest to me, and cost a
small fortune.
While Jodie started messing
around, and making her usual mess, of
her lunch, I nipped back up to the
bathroom to finished washing my two
white t-shirts. One was a 1999 Catford
Beer Festival t-shirt (which still
fits ok), and the other was the Youngs
Waggledance t-shirt. The front design
is on the left of the picture above. I
may not have been able to wear it when
it was brand new, but maybe patience
has maybe worked. I haven't tried it
on, but it looks like
it should
fit now.
The first beer Jodie opened was
a Radler - a fairly weak, lemon
flavoured beer. It wasn't all that bad
compared to some Radlers I have been
forced to taste, but just a taster was
enough for me. I went back to a beer
that I had started before Jodie even
arrived. Jodie did not appear to be in
much of a drinking mood. It may have
been because she was being careful
because she was going on to another
bar which sold strong beers from one
of her favourite brewers (mostly
making nasty sour beers).
I was quite surprised when
later on she opened a can of very
strong stout. In the tasting notes it
mentioned coffee, and so I was very
wary of it, but it tasted more like
chocolate to me, and Jodie graciously
topped up my small taster to about the
equivalent of half a can. It slipped
down deliciously. I would later have
most of a very strong Xmas beer, which
was also delicious. It was handy
having a few beers I could get my
teeth into because Jodie was lost in
her phone a lot of the time, and we
rarely exchanged more than a sentence
at a time.
By the time Jodie left to get
her train I was not really feeling
drunk, but I obviously was because I
had a raging appetite. I was
originally going to have a chicken
salad, but I changed my mind. I
started off with a small ready meal of
chicken and dumplings. It did seem a
very small portion, and I followed it
by a large instant noodles. All that,
and stuff I had eaten earlier to "line
my stomach" before drinking, added up
to my diet ruined, although it didn't
seem to sabotage my blood glucose this
morning.
I ate my dinner with the BBC
news channel on, but once the sport
news started I quickly turned off the
TV. I had checked before that
happened, and I noted a possibly
interesting Simpsons episode being
shown later on the E4 channel, and an
edition of Have I Got News For You on
Dave. The later was not on until 9pm.
I filled in the gaps by reading some
stuff on the internet. The Simpsons
episode was one I had never seen
before, an so I am glad I turned the
TV back on for that.
The Have I Got News For You
episode was another I had not seen
before. It was one of those episodes
that was very good in parts, but
spoilt by a couple of the guest
participants, and whose names I can't
really remember (possibly soap actors
or something). It finished at 10pm and
I was more than ready for sleep,
although I did read on my bed for
maybe 15 minutes before turning out
the light.
Like a few nights in the last
few months it was one of those nights
when the booze in my system soon got
me to sleep, but maybe an hour later I
woke up feeling rough. I was vaguely
aware that I had slept on my right
hand side - which is unusual. That
might have caused a few different
aches and pains, and gave a hint of
heartburn. I treated the feeling of
heartburn about to start, and then
treated as best I could the hangover
that was not exactly raging, but
enough to stop me falling asleep
again.
After that I had a fairly bland
night. I got up to pee at about the
same rate and quantity as what is now
normal for me. I know I had a dream,
and at the time I thought it seemed to
be too boring to remember anything,
and indeed, I can't remember a single
thing about it now. The main annoyance
to do with my sleep is that I woke up
at about 5:45am, and couldn't
get back to sleep even if I did think
I could easily sleep for at least
another hour.
I may have got up for a pee at
about the same rate and quantity as
most nights, but it didn't save me
from some annoying weight gain. This
morning I seem to have gained 800gm.
Oh well, I've done worse on a Friday
or Monday morning (both days after a
beer tasting session). There is a fair
indication it may happen before the
morning is over, but I didn't even
manage to have a poo to drop a little
bit of weight this morning (although I
strongly doubt it will be 800gm).
I suppose that with my peeing
in the night being very typical, it is
not surprising that my blood glucose
is pretty typical, albeit not as low
as I would like. The Contour meter
read 8.0mmol/l, and so just 0.1 away
from being colour coded light green
(in my spreadsheet), and being
classified as very good. The GlucoRX
meter read just 7.5mmol/l, and so not
just very good, but spot on my current
target. The Contour Plus was being
very different still with a semi bad
reading of 8.9mmol/l. My new meter,
the Glucofix, read 8.6mmol/l. That is
passable - neither very good or very
bad.
This morning I
feel...???....err, I'm not sure. I
don't think I feel good, but neither
do I feel bad. Once again I have
started yawning since thinking about
my sleep, and I would not be surprised
if I had a snooze during my post
writing rest. Maybe I will feel a bit
more active once I have managed to
open my bowels this morning. For now I
think a slightly unlikely plan is on
hold. That plan was to go for a short
walk, maybe just to the station and
back to pick up a copy of The Metro,
between two lots of photo editing.
As much as today should be good
walking weather...or at least it would
be if the heat does not put extra
strain on my heart - I feel I will
have to knuckle down and try and get
the last of the photos (where "last"
means several hundred to consider)
from Petts Wood Calling done and
dusted. Although it was only a very
tiny influence on Friday and/or
Saturday night, having so many photos
still to do was another reason for not
going to a potential gig on Friday or
Saturday night. It is currently also a
reason not to go on a train ride,
which would involve last of train
spotting, and other things to
photograph, possibly even the sea, as
well, but maybe tomorrow........
