The
forecast for yesterday was not quite
as bad as the forecast for the day
before yesterday. Yesterday actually
started bright, sunny, and...well
not exactly warm, but the sun felt
warm, and it did warm the day up
fairly quickly. By midday the
temperature had risen from as low as
13° C to 19° C. From 11am it started
to get cloudy, and by 3pm it was
raining. It was generally only light
rain, but it did continue until the
end of the day, although I feel sure
there were odd times when teh rain
stopped for a while.
It is another bright sunny
morning, but from 10am it may get a
little cloudy, but we may still get
sunny spells until we (may) return to
full sunshine at 6pm until sun set.
All the afternoon is shown as being at
a constant 19° C. Tomorrow may see the
return of light rain, although some
hours may see sunny spells. Once again
the afternoon temperature may only
peak at 19° C.
I did hardly anything
yesterday, but several important
things happened - and they were all
deliveries of stuff I had been
patiently waiting for. One
significance of all the waiting was
that I never got a chance to shower,
and I never went out - even though I
could have done both later in the
afternoon when everything had arrived,
but I never really felt like it by
then.
The first delivery was my order
for two pairs of shorts from Premier
Man. My doorbell rang, and 30 seconds
later I opened the front door to see
my order sitting on the step, and the
delivery van nowhere in sight. It is
not for nothing that Evri have a bad
reputation. The new shorts were
good...and bad. It is my own fault for
not looking carefully for one crucial
bit of information about what I was
buying. Having said that, the only
thing I may have seen was in the
picture of the shorts being worn by
some so called model, and not in
writing anywhere.
There was a clue that should
have triggered more research, and that
was that both pairs of shorts were
described as elasticated waists. I
missed that clue because I have at
least one pair that also has an
elasticated waist, but still has
belt
loops ! The new shorts do not
have belt loops. While new the
elasticated waist is sufficient to
keep the shorts up, but I would not
want to rely on it if I was out
shopping, an had a shopping bag in
each hand. One sneeze and I could be
displaying my wares to the greater
public !
One pair is made from a strange
material. I suspect it is
waterproofing, or water repellent. I
think it may be OK after a wash, but
at the moment it is not bad enough to
stop me wearing them. I am actually
wearing the other, ordinary cotton,
pair right now, and they seem very
comfortable, and yet I have noticed
some slight slippage when, for
instance, going up and down the
stairs.
One possibility is to only wear
these shorts indoors, and buy another
pair that has belt loops, or.... It
would be a hell of a job to do it by
hand stitching, but I could sew on my
own belt loops. If I start now I may
have finished in time for next summer
when it would be nice to wear them out
in the sunshine. Maybe I could do the
second pair in time for the summer
after that ! Back in the real world,
the pair of shorts I am actually
replacing, I usually only wear them
indoors. I wear them with a belt, but
they are not elasticated and would
soon fall down without a belt. The new
elasticated pair should be fine as
they are.
The next delivery was delivered
by my regular postman, and I think it
was at around 1pm. It was two little
parcels/packets of exotic cheese. Both
needed trying as soon as I had taken
the wrapping off. The first was a
cheese made in a Swiss monastery, and
it was very nice, although not that
special. I think there are similar
cheeses from places like Turkey on
sale in the little supermarket on
Catford Bridge. I think the simple
description of the taste is that the
cheese is firm, but not hard, and has
a sort of nutty taste.
The other cheese came from
Norway, and it was very different. It
was the colour of caramel, and even
has a sort of sweet, caramel like
taste. There is more about it here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brunost.
I liked it, and had quite a lot of it
on rice crackers, but I can't see
myself ordering any more, although I
note that some supermarkets like
Waitrose do stock it from time to
time. If I see any in shops I may buy
it, but generally my curiosity has
been satisfied.
With all my deliveries
delivered I could have taken the time
to have a shower, but there was
another factor at work. I only needed
to shower if I was going out to Aldi,
and/or going to see a few bands
playing in The Catford Bridge Tavern
last night. That other factor was a
random rumbling from my belly....very
low down in my belly. I felt sure that
sooner or later I would be dashing to
the toilet - something I would not
want to do, or just couldn't do if I
was out.
I did go to the toilet a bit
later, but it seemed quite "normal",
and not the maelstrom I was expecting.
I did note that I did some very vile
farts now and then after going to to
the toilet. Evidently all that
rumbling was probably just trapped
wind, and it did not want to stay
trapped for too long. The odd thing
was that I was never actually
uncomfortable, and apart from my farts
clearing the pub, I probably could
have gone to see the three bands.
By 6pm I was feeling hungry. My
late lunch was mostly just rice
crackers and cheese, and although I
had rather a lot, it was not exactly
filling. Without going to Aldi I was
left with whatever I had in the
freezer. There was stuff in there that
might have been nice, but I felt like
I should have something a bit lighter.
What I actually had was sort of
lighter, but also spicy. The latter
may not have been a good idea on my
already complaining stomach, although
in the end it seemed o make no
difference except to stop one source
of rumbling tummy.
I had two portions from Aldi's
"Protein" ready meals - higher in
protein, but less fat and sugar. The
only downside was that they were both
the same flavour - Peri Peri chicken.
I thought they were two different
flavours, but it didn't really matter
because they were nice enough. They
were "lightly filling" and maybe that
was all I needed. I ate them while
watching one of a series of back to
back old episodes of The Simpsons. in
fact I think the only TV I watched was
old episodes of The Simpsons.
I'm not sure what time it was
when I went to bed, but I don't think
it was very late. Like the night
before (or was it the night before
that ?) I slept very peacefully last
night. I left the heater on low, with
the thermostat set low, all night, and
it seemed to keep my bedroom just warm
enough to sleep in perfect comfort.
Apart from being a little surprised at
how big some of the pees I had in the
night (and also this morning), I
barely remember anything about the
night. That might be a shame because I
might have had the super erotic dream
I had wished for a few nights ago, and
not remembered it.
As mentioned above, I had a
very large pee when I first got up.
Only 20 minutes had passed before I
had another, smaller pee. This all
happened before breakfast, and so I
weighed myself a couple of times, and
the best result was that this morning
I was half a kilogram lighter than
yesterday morning. I found that a bit
surprising, because I had not eaten
very carefully. It must have all been
down to all the pee I passed. To be
honest I don't care how it happened,
but I am happy it did. My records show
that my average weight for this August
is 2.5kg less than in January. Put
like that it is not terribly
impressive, but it could have been
worse - it could have been a gain of
2.5kg.
All that peeing could have been
because my blood glucose is a bit high
this morning, but only a little bit
higher. The Contour meter read
8.6mmol/l, and that is a
typical/average reading - not that far
off (just 0.1mmol/l) from my old
target. The GlucoRX meter read
8.5mmol/l, and that was my old target
until I found I could do better. The
Contour
Plus meter read
9.4mmol/l, and that is much too high -
which is typical for that meter (which
is why it is being retired today). The
GlucoFix meter, my new 3rd meter, read
a much better 8.5mmol/l, or exactly
the same as the GlucoRX meter.
This is an excerpt from the
weather forecast for 2 days ago (the
29th August), and I meant to show it
yesterday. The significant thing is
the forecast for thundery showers, and
how the next one would be at 5pm (I
took this screenshot just after 4pm).
At 6.25pm I took a photo out of the
bathroom window, looking south,
although the north looked almost the
same. It was just easier to take the
picture from the bathroom window.
You will
notice the sky is mostly blue with
some fluffy clouds. The view to the
north did includes a few grey
clouds, but in no direction were
there any clouds that hinted of
upcoming thunderstorms. Once again
the BBC weather forecast had more
fantasy than science - or so it
seemed. Maybe it was 3 or 4 hours
later it did get cloudier, and there
was a splash of light rain, but not
a single thunderclap was heard.
Having now remembered to take
the piss out of the forecast from 2
days ago, I can get back to today.
Today I have plenty of time to wash
my hair and have a good scrub under
the shower. It will be essential
because later this afternoon Jodie
should be over to open a few more
bottles or cans of some exotic
beers. It would also be essential if
I were going to Aldi to get the
shopping I meant to do yesterday
after having to dump all the
shopping I had put into the basket
in Tesco, and which I dumped on a
closed till before walking out
because the chances of getting
served seemed slim at the time.
I think I have enough food in
my freezer to keep my overfed today,
and I can put off going to Aldi
today. What I probably will do is to
go to Poundstretcher and Savers.
There is stuff I will get from both,
and Poundstretcher may have some
suitable soft drinks to lengthen the
time before I run out of Diet Coke.
I think I can get some Diet Coke
from Poundstretcher, but the bottles
will probably be well past their use
by dates, and will have lost most of
their fizz, but some cans should
still be OK.
