Yesterday was another
sunny day, or at least a fair amount
of it was. It was also warm with the
temperature peaking at 19° C. It did
cool down quite a lot after dark -
which started at 6:27pm. The days are
getting shorter and shorter !
The cloud seems too thick to
let any sunshine through, but maybe it
will break up soon. The temperature
today peaks at 18° C at 6pm, and
coincidently it is the single hour
when we may get full sunshine - if the
forecast is correct (which seeing as
it says sunny spells now, and it is
light grey instead, it is unlikely).
Tomorrow may start at just 11° C, and
until early evening, there will be no
sign of the sun (a bit like today).
After a grey day the temperature
tomorrow may only peak at 17° C, and
may not reach that until 4pm.
Yesterday was a different sort
of day to many recent days. It could
have easily been boring, and I would
end up doing nothing. Fortunately I
found I fell down a big hole, and
didn't surface again until dinner
time. The big hole was Wikipedia (dot
com), and what started as a simple
query ended up with me following
endless links to related information.
I suppose I could describe
yesterday morning as disappointing. I
did have thoughts about going for a
walk - either a short walk for
shopping, or perhaps a longer walk for
exercise. I even considered doing some
laundry, but I didn't do any of these.
Once I had finished writing
yesterday's 2,324 words I laid on my
bed and rested. That included a bit of
reading, and some thinking. I was
thinking about the TV documentary I
mentioned yesterday (or the day
before).
As I wrote (whenever it was) I
was happy that the American made
documentary was very complimentary
about the famous Supermarine Spitfire
(the WW2 fighter aircraft), but for
heavy bombers they only praised the
Boeing B29 "Superfortress", and
ignored the far more beautiful, and
more capable Lancaster bomber. I
decided I ought to see what I could
find about the two to compare them.
One of the things I wanted to
do yesterday was to ignore the
Mounjaro drug, and lose a bit of
weight the only way I know how (or
actually one of two ways). My
lunch was the tried and tested rice
crackers and cheese, and together with
some pickled cornichons, it was a very
nice, and very safe lunch. It was so
light a lunch that I only rested for
maybe half an hours (and even that was
not needed) before curiosity got the
better of me.
I couldn't give accurate
answers about what I knew of the
Lancaster bomber, but I had a fair
overview of it. I knew almost
nothing about the American B29 bomber,
and so I looked up that first on
Wikipedia. It's bomb carrying capacity
was very similar - so similar, but
with the Lancaster having a slight
edge, that the Yanks considered it for
dropping the first nuclear weapons on
Japan, but they decided only an
American plane could have the dubious
honour of that.
In simplified terms, the B29
was the transit van of the day -
obviously a flying version. It could
carry a lot, and that was about it. If
you wanted a specialist delivery you
needed a specialist aircraft - the
Lancaster, If you wanted a beautiful
aircraft you needed a Lancaster and
not a dirty white van driven by a
grubby builder. All this research,
even if only a brief overview, took
about half an hour, but then I made
the silly mistake of looking up some
of British WW2 bombers.
There were several bombers at
the end of WW2 made by competing
British aircraft manufacturers. Each
had it's plus points. Some were
faster, and some had a greater
survivability against being shot up by
machine gun and cannon. Some had
greater range, or could carry heavier
loads (the Lancaster !). It could be
argued that having competing designs
was not as economical as having a
standard design, with the economies of
scale that could bring. However, as
any engineer, or carpenter will tell
you, it is best to have the right tool
for the job, and each of the different
bombers was the right tool for their
jobs.
I didn't "resurface" from
Wikipedia until almost 5pm. It passed
a whole afternoon in an enjoyable way,
and it was enjoyable enough to
completely distract me from any
temptations for snacks and stuff. It
was not a long wait until dinner time.
I ate my dinner while watching the BBC
6 O'clock news on the BBC News channel
instead of BBC 1 (which I think may
have been showing sport or strictly
come Eurovision song war (or
something). (I may be confusing last
night with the night before due to a
low emission brain cell).
My dinner was not specifically
healthy, but was possibly better than
some. It was a Lamb Keema - minced
lamb in a spicy sauce with diced
potato and peas. It sounds like it
should be with all the other curry
based ready meals in Tesco, but is in
a separate section - possibly Halal
foods, or maybe not. I don't know (I
ought to see what common theme they
have). I am unsure, but the box may
say it feeds two, and maybe with rice
and vegetable side dishes, etc, it
would, but by itself it is merely
snack sized (by my distorted
standards).
I felt it definitely needed to
be followed by a dessert, and I had a
crazy idea for dessert. it was
probably specifically crazy in so much
that it included a small can of prunes
that must have been a long way after
their use by date. The can looked
unblemished, but those prunes did seem
to have a hint of a metallic taste
about them. That was probably made
worse by eating them with a big dollop
of ice cream.
I did do one thing to slightly
lessen the high sugar content of those
prunes. The can said they came in
syrup (or maybe it just said "juice".
I partly washed the prunes by rinsing
off some of the "juice", although I
have doubts it made that much
difference, and particularly so
because I did not want to wash away
all the nice tasting juice. Once upon
a time I would have believed that
prunes and ice cream would have been a
lethal combination in terms of
controlling sugar intake. I had hoped
they would be lethal in terms of a
counter against constipation......I am
still waiting !
For the rest of the evening I
watched the usual Star Trek offerings
(the Next Generation and Deep Space
Nine), and then I watched both QI and
Have I Got News For You. Once again I
did not get to bed until almost 11pm.
Like recent night I did not bother to
try and read, but turned over, and I
was soon fast asleep. After the ice
cream and prunes I was expecting my
blood glucose to be high enough that I
would be going for a large pee every 2
hours through the night. Oddly enough
it was not that bad, and even when I
did go for a pee it was not a very big
one.
I can almost remember having a
dream last night, but I think the
memory of that was partly erased to
make room for a memory of what
happened twice this morning. It was
about 5am when I woke up to find the
room whirling round. I had not drunk
any booze so it was not "the whirlies"
that were so common among our early
drinking days. I feel sure it was some
sort of inner ear problem.
Once I was standing up by my
bed the room slowed and stopped, and I
was able to walk to the toilet with no
hint of any unsteadyness. I was
slightly wary about going back to
sleep again in case it happened again.
I did get to sleep, and it did happen
again when I woke up a couple of hours
late. This time, because I was half
expecting it, I could retain just
enough objectivity to make me think it
only happened after sleeping on my
right side (instead of my normal
left).
I don't know if the pressure of
the pillow on the side of my head, on
the right side, was relevant or not,
but it made me suspect the problem may
have been in my right ear. I have had
hints of some wax in that ear,
although not enough to noticeably
affect my hearing, but maybe a hollow
ring of wax is putting pressure where
it shouldn't. It is a messy job, but I
expect to be washing my hair this
morning, and I'll put some oil in my
right ear, and see what happens.
My attempts to get back on my
old diet, and so actually lose some
weight, seem to have worked. I did pee
a couple of time before finally
weighing myself. If I could have had
the poo that I expected the prunes to
guarantee, I may have weighed less,
but so far all I've passed is some
gas. Only now, quite a few hours
later, am I getting the feeling that
something is moving. Sadly it is too
late now because I have had breakfast.
My weight before breakfast was a
rather good 600gm less than yesterday.
I did have doubts about how my
body would get on with the rather
sweet prunes and ice cream last night.
This mornings readings were not quite
as good, but the Mounjaro was still
doing it's stuff. The Contour Meter
read a good 7.4mmol/l. The GlucoRX
meter read an even better 7.2mmol/l.
The new GlucoFix meter was not as
good, but 7.8mmol/l is still in the
light green on my spreadsheet code,
and well good enough.
As mentioned further up the
page, one of the things I will be
doing today is to wash my hair, and
also have a shower. Washing my hair is
now needed because I now have almond
oil in it after my ear over flowed
when filling it in the hope it will
soften any wax in it. It will also
save time tomorrow when I will be
going out to the pub, and it will be
nice to have clean hair when among
friends. I definitely need a shower
today after not having one yesterday.
Later on I may well go out
shopping. The afternoon is (currently)
forecast to be bright and sunny (or at
least sunny spells). It could possibly
temp me out for a walk (but I doubt
it). I may possible wash some
underwear and t-shirts today, but I
will definitely have to force myself
to finish it today so the bath is free
for a shower tomorrow morning. Perhaps
the most important thing today is that
I will be having my next, self
injected, Mounjaro jab.
One note about this morning: I
have lived here for 42 or so years,
and in all that time I can't recall
finding a big spider in the kitchen
sink before the first time this very
morning. It had possibly fallen from
the ceiling (I have read that is how
spiders end up in bath tubs), and it
had fallen in a glass bowl that was
half full of water. The side would
have been too slippery to climb out,
and I suspect it may have drowned (I
assume spiders can drown). It put up
no resistance when I flushed it down
the plughole !
Another thing I almost
forgot to include was this picture of
a small bag of cheese and Marmite
Puff. Each 16.5gm bag contains a mere
84 calories, and a mere 0.5gm of
sugars. I have no guilt at all about
having two bags for a snack yesterday
evening.
