09:00 GMT
After the previous dreadful
day, yesterday was not bad. There was
some full sunshine followed by sunny
spells until almost sunset. The
afternoon rose to 13° C, then cooled
off until rising again at midnight.
This morning has started grey
and damp. The damp is from rain during
the night, but (possibly) at 11am it
will start to drizzle. Then there may
be light rain until 2pm. Even then the
rain won't have finished, and it will
start again at 7pm. It will still only
be light rain, but it may be enough to
dampen the enthusiasm of any feral
trick or treaters. The temperature
will be up and down a couple of times
today. There may be a couple of hours
of 15° C late this morning, and then
for much of the afternoon, and again
from 7pm. The latest revision to
the forecast has now added two hours
of thunderstorms in the early hours of
tomorrow (although this could just be
a sick Halloween joke by the BBC).
Much of tomorrow may be dry and bright
with an afternoon high of 14° C.
Yesterday was not too bad a
day, and some of it was quite good.
The bright weather certainly added an
extra sparkle to the day, although it
still felt that I needed a coat when I
went out. The evening was a pleasant
boozy evening, and some good and not
so good beers were drunk.
After I finished writing
yesterday, I had only short rest
before I had to tackle finishing
washing a small bath towel that I had
left half done, and still in the last
rinse water from the day before. I
lost count of the amount of times I
rinsed it yesterday morning, but it
was probably at least 8 times, and the
rinse water still seemed slightly
soapy. I should have done a few more
rinses, but I was feeling a little bit
tired, and lot bored.
After hanging up the towel to
dry I had a shower. It felt too late,
and I had stuff to do, and so I didn't
wash my hair like I wanted to do. I
may not do it today, but I will see
how the time is going. There is
potentially an added problem today - I
am expecting a delivery and it could
be any time between right now and
midnight (yes, it is an Amazon
delivery, and maybe early afternoon
could be a fairly good bet).
Yesterday I had no fears about
missing a delivery, and once I was
dried and dressed I could, and did go
out. I went out to buy some shopping
from Tesco, but with first looking
through the windows to make sure at
least one checkout was staffed. On
this occasion I deliberately only
bought some essential stuff, and some
heavier stuff. The heavier stuff
included 4 cans of beer on a buy 4 for
the price of three offer.
My plan was to go shopping in
Aldi today, and buy stuff like ready
meals, and other stuff that Aldi have,
and Tesco's don't, or have less
choice. Of course that also works the
other way around. Tesco has a far, far
better selection of Instant noodles,
for instance. With the latest Amazon
delivery taking place today I am not
sure I will be able to get to Aldi
unless it it is very late in the day -
which I would prefer not to.
When I got back from Tesco I
put all my shopping away, and had a
sit down. I also had some lunch. It
was not a very good lunch. Even a
Tesco finest quiche is not as good as
a basic cheap quiche. I only bought
the "Tesco Finest" quiche because it
was on the reduced price shelf. I
think it was vintage cheddar and
caramelised onion Quiche. It sounded
like it should have been delicious,
but was barely "nice". I also scoffed
the whole lot when it might have been
better for me if I had only have had
half of it - but why stop just because
you are not enjoying ?
I had another little rest
before I did some tidying in the
dining room. I had hoovered the carpet
in the a day or two ago, and that
didn't need doing again, but I did do
some long over due things like
scrubbing off sticky beer spills on
the dining room tablecloth. Although I
did buy a nice white linen tablecloth,
I also bought a PVC tablecloth, and
that is what has been on the table for
the last year or two. I thought a
"plastic" tablecloth was a bit naff at
the time, but I now realise it was
essential for when beer is being
sloshed about !
Nothing really happened after
that until Jodie arrived at about
3.30pm. Michael arrived half an hour
later. He was his usual gloomy self
until he got a few beers down himself.
I was itching to try the beer I had
bought from Tesco - two cans of a
fruit sour, and two cans of a stout
style. The fruit sour was actually
described as strawberries dipped in
chocolate flavour. I must admit I was
surprised to find it was actually
drinkable, and had hints of being
nice. I reckon that after another 5 or
6 cans I could grow to enjoy it. The
reason being that it was a lot less
sour than some of the abominations
that Jodie enjoys.
The stout was also a flavoured
beer. The very odd thing is that we
all expected it to be dark, and maybe
even black (like Guinness as a great
example of a stout), but it was clear,
and just a fairly light brown. It was
flavoured with nuts, possibly
hazelnuts. It was very strange. It
seemed all wrong, but I found myself
thinking it wasn't so bad. I don't
think I would want to make a habit of
drinking it, but I would not turn away
another can (and there is still the
second can in the fridge !).
I had two other visitors for
the boozing session. The first was the
fluffy cat who may be a Maine Coon, or
may be a Norwegian Forest Cat. They
are related, and so this difference is
mute. He is always far better behaved
when he has an audience (except when
he got onto the table, and I had to
pick him up and put him on a chair).
His type of cat is described as being
dog like. I guess that means that
rather than being the solitary hunter
of the night, he likes being in
company, and is more and more relaxed
when there are several of us in the
room with him. He even dozed off for
ten minutes.
The other visitor was Mark who
dropped by for one low strength beer,
and to pick Jodie up. He and Jodie
left around 6pm, and Michael very soon
after. (Fluffy cat decided to go out a
bit earlier). Before they all left I
put my dinner in the oven (not
microwave). It was a cauliflower
cheese ready meal with some added
grated cheese once it was cooked. I
have no idea what secret ingredient my
mum used to add, but her recipe tasted
far nicer than the Tesco ready meal.
One oddity was that I thought I
had at least one alternate ready meal
in the fridge, but that Cauliflower
cheese was the the only thing in the
fridge. My desire to go to Aldi
increases, but I still have a
selection of food in the freezer, and
maybe there is stuff in that that
ought to be used up soon. I did and do
have a packet of 6 sausage rolls in
the fridge, and I could probably have
those for dinner at a pinch. Of course
they will be moderately horrible, and
on refection I have no idea why I
bought them - apart from they were
reduce price.
There is not a lot to say about
last night. I watched TV, the usual
stuff, until I gave up at 10pm
(although I could have watched until
11pm, but maybe the booze was making
me feel extra sleepy). When I got into
bed I did feel very slightly
uncomfortable, and the discomfort was
from my bowel area. I didn't seem
ready to go to the toilet, but there
were some ominous gurgles from my
lower digestive tract.
I soon fell asleep, and I may
have got up once for a pee, but I
think it was around 3am when I became
more active. I am unsure of what
happened when, but it may have been
getting up to go for a pee, and after
than a poo. I dislike having a poo in
the middle of the night, but it had to
be done, and doing it was hard work. I
then went back to bed to have a very
unusual dream.
What I seemed to have dreamed
was a plan of what to remember of a
dream I don't think I had. I did have
some sort of dream, and maybe that was
the seed for an imagined dream that I
intended to remember. It was all a bit
mixed up and crazy, and I doubt I will
never know what I thinking of in the
night, but I do remember, or at least
I think I remembered what I was
supposed to remember this morning.
The dream that I seemed to
invent during a dream had no start or
finish, and was just one snapshot of
an single still frame. I was in a
cemetery looking at a marked area that
contained 6 very small headstones,
plus one large stone. Written on the
big stone were the words "Here lies
six men who died during a photocopier
explosion". That was all I had to
remember.
There was nothing about the
actual photocopier explosion -
probably because photocopiers have
never been known to explode, and so
there could be no back story. As I
said, the whole dream was that one
single freeze frame of a picture with
an emphasis on what was written on the
big stone. It is a complete and utter
mystery how I managed to come up with
that idea, and maybe a bigger mystery
why, in a dream, did I make sure it
was simple enough to remember in the
morning.
This morning was another false
start when I got up and then went back
to bed for a bit more sleep after I
had been to the toilet, and took
screen shots of the weather forecasts.
When I went to the toilet I first had
a fair sized pee,and then decided to
sit down and I managed to squeeze out
quite a hard poo. I weighed myself
before I went back to bed, and I was
not happy with what I saw.
I have to admit that could have
been the most realistic dream ever,
because an hour later, or so I believe
(the weather forecast screen shots do
suggest it was actual reality though),
I went to the toilet for a repeat
performance. This time my weight was a
bit better. The finally tally was that
I seemed to put on 500gm since
yesterday morning. I knew the food I
ate and the beer I drunk would not be
very good for me, but I never expected
that.
There was another mystery after
maybe another half hour had passed. I
had only had a mouthful of drink or
maybe two, and certainly not 200gm of
it, but after I had done a pleasingly
large, very wet poo I found my weight
was not less but more. I have observed
this before - and it is like on some
occasions my poo is actually lighter
than air (although thank goodness it
doesn't float out of the pan !!!!!).
My blood glucose was also
affected by the food or drink I had
yesterday, but not too much, and my
readings were not that bad. The
Contour meter read 7.6mmol/l, and that
is not only good, but even very
slightly better than yesterday. The
GlucoRX meter read 6.6mmol/l, and that
is the sort of figure I am now aiming
at. The GlucoFix meter read 7.8mmol/l.
That is the highest reading for any
meter since the 15th of the month, but
still very acceptable. The average of
all three was 7.33mmol/l, and that is
higher than the total average for the
whole month, which is 6.81mmol/l. For
comparison September's average was a
fair bit higher at 8.17mmol/l. Last
August it was slightly lower at
8.07mmol/l - which was a surprise
because that month featured a few
nines.
It could easily be another
couple of hours before I get an email
to say my Amazon order is out for
delivery. That should give me plenty
of time to have a shower, and I think
today I ought to wash my hair. It
could be a bit of a gamble to chance
going shopping after that. Sometimes
Amazon do give an actual estimate of
delivery time instead of their fairly
useless "before 9pm", and maybe I will
manage a shopping trip to Aldi. It
would be nice, but is far from
essential.
Tonight I had thought about
going out to a gig. It was a
reasonable band playing in a
reasonable pub that is just one long
ad boring bus ride away. The flaw in
that plan I only discovered this
morning, although it should have been
obvious. It is billed as a blood
Halloween Party gig. I do not care for
that, and so I will stay in and enjoy
an early night instead - with the
doors and windows bolted closed and
the curtains closed to avoid giving
any encouragement to American trick or
treaters. What could mess all that up
is if Amazon decide they are going to
do a very later delivery - a "before
9pm", and on rare occasions "before
10pm". If I am lucky it could be
closer to, say, 3pm, and I could then
go to Aldi. Today I think I will just
be making it up as I go along through
the day.
